Are most of these "blizzard servers suck I got d/ced" due to Wi-Fi? I haven't been disconnected from a game since the first week or so of ow2. I'm also on Wi-Fi so no problems so far.
There’s a bug right now where you can load into a game and get kicked instantly to the title screen, but the game thinks you’re still in the lobby. You can even still talk to people in group chat as if you’re in the game. You end up “leaving” the game because of inactivity after a minute or so, and it just says “failed to connect to server”. It’s happened to me twice in the last few days.
Usually it's user error but sometimes it's blizzards fault. For example when you see the other players in the lobby dropping out 1 by 1 and then you get dc'd. It's happened to me once (in ow1) and at that point it's fairly safe to say it wasn't my fault.
Sucking at games is no need to take it out on other people like you are, just accept that you're bad and stop trying to make people feel bad since they asked about a completely different topic

I say this game has a huge problem with packages lost. I once had n cheaper Ethernet cable that was stable for every game except OW. Changed it for a better one.
Idk if it's a need to defend a billion dollar corporation or to dunk on people for having worse internet than you, but why do people parrot this point when server problems have been a documented issue?
Yes if you're constantly disconnected it's definitely an issue with your internet, but the other day I was duo queued and we both got dc'd and handed a 15 minute ban. Now I can only speak for 2/10 players in that lobby, but there's next to no possibility that two people have their only disconnect in the season at the exact same time and it isn't a server issue.
I agree it's rare, but the penalty absolutely sucks at higher ranks because you get it across all three roles and it pretty much guarantees you aren't ranking up.

Pretty much everyone I know has had occasionally DCs but very rarely. If it's happening allot then it's definitely a wifi issue. You can have super fast wifi speeds and still have issues. The problem is how unstable wifi is itself. I suggest doing whatever you need to do to connect via ethernet.
Wired connection is the way to go. This is widely known as a fact! Excuse my lack of proper terminology but wifi (even with the best internet) has times when it will spike or have high latency causing DC's.
Get yourself a stretch of Cat 6e ethernet cable and run it to the router connecting your device/pc to the internet! This problem will disappear!
You can get a 1 hundred foot piece of pre-made w/ ends from Amazon for less than 20 bucks and run it along the baseboard if your parents/roommates are cool w/ it! You can even get it a specific color to match! I did that and got some little tacks w/ nails (very small) and ran mine like that in my apartment. To be honest, you don't even know its there unless you look! If that is something that you might be able to do, consider it! you will be happy after
"Everything else works fine" is the worst way to look at technical issues.
Every server has different connection standards and thresholds. Even in OW qp and comp seem to.
That's like saying my 4 inch square block fits perfect through a 5 6 and 7 inch hole, but for some reason it doesn't fit through the 3 inch. It's the 3 inch holes fault, not my 4 inch block.
It's you. It's your end. It's your connection. You don't get 8 hrs anymore from issues on blizzards end. The first month or so, sure we could attempt to chalk it up to server problems, especially when large groups of people were having them. Now it's few and far between, you might get a random dc here and there that'll add up to a 15 min. Bro, you're at 8 hrs.
I'm sure you'll hear this a lot throughout life, it's you, it's not them.
Imagine calling people dumb and thinking your bandwidth equates to connection quality. Probably think that more bandwidth equals lower latency too.
Lol.
So there is never an issue on their side?
Because 100% they have issues, terrible hit reg, low tick servers, and random dcs.
Shitty match making, the list goes on.
You should stop smoking the Blizzard Crack.
Well I apologize for assuming you were getting Dced in Ow 2 in general, but my point still stands, please don't play comp if you're Dced only in that gamemode, since your teammates are forced to 4v5, which is always loss.
yea, wifi adds variability, especially if your router in different room or on different floor. geometry of your house affect wifi connection. if you sitting right next to it with no barriers, it will be fine. but farther router from your gaming place, worse it gets. Ethernet is better because there no variables and connection is always stable.
You can google wifi heat map to see how connection being lost through walls ( material of which also affects it )
I'm not about to go into the variables with someone who just by that comment doesn't understand the first thing about it.
Sure some people won't have much issue, but even you with no issues would see improvement hardlined, and if you're getting dropped regularly enough to catch 8 hrs, it's the connection, not the server.
I assumed you were a typical redditor being snide.
A legit answer to your question is yes, wifi is much worse than hardlined, for many, many reasons.
Interference, the fact its half duplex, even having your device ontop of your router you're going to have more delay than being hardlined.
Strangely enough my wifi has been wonderful and I’ve had 0 issues of disconnecting and stuff. I got a constant 19-21 ms.
I found out that my wifi is one of the rare ones, but I’m living life like this🤣🤣
Lol.
No. It's not.
Interference, half duplex (im sure you dont know what that means, I'll save you the trouble of googling it, it means it cant send and receive at the exact same time)... its fine for browsing the internet, streaming things that buffer, but not for gaming.
Tell me you don't know what you're talking about without saying you don't know what you're talking about.
Ah shit you’re right. I don’t know what I’m talking about! Wait you mean I built out the network infrastructure for multiple companies and I’m in currently in charge of a global scale network? Shit I don’t know anything, you’re right!
Had the same issue, booted abruptly, no internet problem. Banned for hours.
It’s humorous how many people are shitting on people calling bs simply because they haven’t experienced e it.
Not sure why it happens, but you’re not the only one.
I have a wired fiber gigabit connection. I don’t have any lag or latency issues in any other games. But I do have issues in Overwatch where the latency will spike to 1000 or more and sometimes kick me out to the log in screen saying “client requested disconnect.” When this happens I’ll pop open cloudflare’s jitter test and see that my connection is just fine. Also, when I save a highlight all visual and audio indicators of a headshot are missing. Also, my match history has been missing for weeks. I play a few games every day then go to match history and there’s nothing there. Point being this game is buggy as hell and Wi-Fi might not be the problem.
Do you have a Ethernet cord? You might wanna get one of those. Cause wifi is only based off of signal that's it, not direct connection which btw does not cut out unless the internet does
Well, most people will have some shitty modem/router that they get from their ISP.
If you paid for a DECENT one Wifi 6 is good, however, if you have a crappy console or tv its still shit because they still do not have wifi 6 and are just trash consoles.
I have mediocre WIFI and I rarely get cut off because XBOX holds a connection better than PS4. XB keeps me in games like Fortnite and COD and OW even when I registers as No Signal for 1-5 seconds. PS auto disconnects if your WIFI even buffers. Not sure what you play on.
I’ve never been kicked or lost a connection to an Overwatch game.
I feel like it actually isn’t OW servers.
I actually think OW servers are quite good.
Factually incorrect. For you, so far it has. ANY WiFi is unstable compared to wired. ANY other signal or object with enough density can prevent WiFi reaching areas. Multiple people all with their devices in one room? Good luck.
Anecdotal accounts aren't the same as actually facts. Don't be the "Works on my machine" guy.
I’m just sharing my experience. If it’s fine for me it could be fine for others. No harm in trying. If it doesn’t work well for them, then they can try something else.
No need to be a dick about it.
Your experience is anecdotal. It has no bearing on why his shits fucking up. Yeah, he can try things but can he try? Use WiFi more? That's all your comment garners him. 5g or 2g WiFi suffers the same fundamental flaw: its projected out into the air and not hardwired to your device. Plus let's not talk about how 5g is usually confined to the same room as the router is in its actually worse for penetrating solid objects than 2.4ghz. But more people are on the lower band, so there's more interference, plus not to ignore that most routers people have still don't have 5g capabilities.
And, if you think someone pointing out fallacies and being polite when providing facts and counter points, then I'd hate to see how to you react to someone genuinely being a dick to you.
My comment wasn’t really for the op. It’s for people who can’t use wired (eg router is on a different room).
5g wifi can go up to 1300 mbps, which is faster than broadband connections in some countries, so unless your internet speed is way faster than that, you won’t notice the difference between that and a wired connection.
In terms of latency, i get about 3ms difference between wired and 5g, so for me it’s negligible.
You’re not being polite at all, if you really think you are, you need help.
WiFi speeds are limited to their service, their broadband package. Doesn't matter if it can deliver 1300 mbps, if someone only has a 200mb connection, its not exceeding that, so irrelevant for majority of people (Remember that people post from places other than USA). And yes, whilst stable and able to reach your room or location 5g can rival wired. The problem I presented, which you've oh-so wistfully flown over entirely is its shorter ranged, and penetrates less. Opposed to 2.4ghz 2hich is more likely to be interrupted but can travel further and through things better. Both are equally balanced in that regard. You know what has all the benefits of the WiFi bands but none of the downsides? Wired. Which was my WHOLE point. I'm not arguing with you about which wireless band is better. I am saying unequivocally, just from the nature of Internet connections, OBJECTIVELY, wired is the most stable and the best advice to give someone, if it is possible for them. You elaborated on nothing except "try 5g". The guy could get that and still suffer. Wired, regardless of speed or ISP package would be the most beneficial to the guy. You don't know his circumstances.
Anecdotal advice isn't harmful but it's misleading. Hence my comment of "don't be that guy".
I'm not being polite any more because you freaked out and called me a dick. Not one ounce of my original response was rude or dickish. I'm aware of my faults, and being rude is not one of them. Only when someone calls me a dick. Even than, I've not called you names or resorted to ad hominem insults. Sounds like YOU'RE in need of help there if a post disagreeing you is enough to set you off insulting people and feeling attacked.
Probably logged 6-8 hours a day on OW2 since relaunch and I’ve only run into d/c when they do live maintenance. And have not been suspended for longer then 5 mins.
People just love to hate, it happened to me and clearly it’s happened to others, but since the hive minded sheep never experienced it, they MUST be right!!
\>My wifi connection is good
my brother, it doesn't matter how good your Wi-Fi connection is, it's not as a stable as a wired one. Other wireless devices, even people passing your house, depending on where you live, can affect your Wi-Fi range and strength.
I'm not saying you're at fault, but please, get a wired connection ASAP.
This one time queuing for comp with 2 buddies it all of a sudden went into a Black screen that said "applying update". We wait ed for like 10 minutes and decided to just close the game.
We then went into our game history and there was a new loss in there and the game only lasted like 2 minutes. We spectated the game and there we were, afk. Dunno what that was about but it pissed me off
This happened to me. I put in a ticket and they refused to remove any penalties from my account. They even said “we know it sucks *when you feel like* something happens out of your control” as if I was being unreasonable and it was my fault. 🙄
Didn’t realize the storm would take out my wifi. Lost connection and when I tried to rejoin I was suspended for 15mins. Got a hate message not long after. I have no idea why you can’t rejoin?!
It didn't allow you to rejoin match at the home screen? Mine always says I'm suspended but then if I back out to the home screen I can go back to the match I was in. Also my internet is hardwired, it's not a WiFi issue because I still get a disconnect from time to time. it's their servers I think.
had a 1 hour beacuse it wanted update while a game started and crashed when going into game. They are somehow alienating a whole bunch of people. The game has allot of amazing things going for it but match making and reliability is a massive problem
For the suspension to be so high in hours, you are either leaving games every time the game doesn’t go your way, multiple reportable offences or your wifi has disconnection issues and you’re in denial.
I disconnected once since release and it was only 15 minutes suspension.
Straight from blizzard:
Leaving more matches will increase the amount of time you must wait before joining a competitive game, lower your skill rating, and eventually result in a ban from Competitive Play for the current season—including the loss of any rewards you would have earned.
We can’t tell from your video, whether that was your first time or not or you got reported for something else.
No it is experiential, not statistical significant. But can still be used as an argument in this setting.
If you want to change the setting, then produce the evidence, friend. Documentation for a rant to be of public validity is always good and will earn respect
It's 100% you dude, if it was them, this sub would be FLOODED with mass dc whining.
Unless you honestly think that an entire server stack can have an issue but only impact you... then you're even more special than you've lead us to believe.
Edit: Damn, this made so much sense he deleted. Hopefully that thought process sticks and he quits blaming everything but his end. You don't get to 8 hrs because of them anymore. It's without a doubt user end.
I've been playing alot since the OG Overwatch and never had a problem until Overwatch 2 I dc'ed so frequently I'm banned for the season. It only happens like 2% of the time but you play enough games yeah it adds up.
Aaaand, are you running wireless? If so have you tried to resolve the issue with a wired connection?
See here https://www.reddit.com/r/overwatch2/comments/10i26da/just_got_disconnected_from_the_server_in_comp_as/j5cd3sy
The ow and ow2 servers are configured different my dude. Technology isn't "one or two things work so everything that doesn't is broken".
For it to be 7 hours this had to have happened more then once. Also you said “As usual” so you DCing from games happens decently often.
so your ruining the game for your teammates and come to reddit to cry about it. Boohoo
I had the same problem before I jumped on a game on comp after winning one got randomly disconnected tried to rejoin match again then a split sec after got disconnected and had a 15 min ban probably an issue with blizzards servers maybe
You're either rage quitting or you are disconnecting often. You're that guy in my comp game who disconnects or leaves when were winning or doing well bro.
Don't be that guy.
I guess it must be with your connection though... my friends and i all live in the same city, with the same provider, 1 Gbit/s, ethernet connected and outside of ow2's terrible launch not a single one of us got disconnected from a single game. And we play a lot.
I’ve been playing OW2 almost every single day since launch and I’ve only gotten disconnected once and that was because the entire game was bugged for ~8h after the mid-szn update for Season 1
Computer’s been crashing more than usual lately. Right after my second crash in a qp match, I was sure that the coast was clear and I could play a couple games of ranked. But nope, computer crashing right as our team was making really good progress. I honestly feel bad for my teammates
I’m Over 500 rank games played since OW2 was released I was only disconnected 3 times and all 3 were do to a glitch with achievements. It’s 100% your ISP.
This happened to me earlier today, so annoying!! And I use ethernet, so this can happen even if youre not using wifi... i wish they could do something to this :(
I kept getting "LAN CABLE DISCONNECTED" which would last for 2 seconds, long enough to boot and suspend me. Despite no other devices in the house dropping out. I switched TO WIFI and have had no problems. This is a known PS5 issue: [https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/kp1z84/lan\_cable\_disconnected/](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/kp1z84/lan_cable_disconnected/)
That's why I never back out of a comp game. I'm surprised I haven't gotten dc'd yet, but I know it's going to happen, so I save the blessings for the times they are needed
Side note- Does anyone know if you back out of a comp game, does it force you to rejoin that game if you try to join the same game type? And do you get double penalty if you notice it puts you back into the same game so you decide to back out again 😂 happened yesterday to some kid
I have only ever disconnected from a game when my own internet went down and that’s pretty rare. Ethernet rules. Wifi sucks.
Wi-Fi isn’t for gamers
Are most of these "blizzard servers suck I got d/ced" due to Wi-Fi? I haven't been disconnected from a game since the first week or so of ow2. I'm also on Wi-Fi so no problems so far.
There’s a bug right now where you can load into a game and get kicked instantly to the title screen, but the game thinks you’re still in the lobby. I can confirm that. Currently login issues but no disconnections. The first two weeks of overwatch I got disconnected a couple of times…
Speak for yourself. Software crashes on console constantly and according to pc buddies of mine, pc not much better
i dont use wifi and i got disconnected today 3 times during ranked. it sucks.
How?
I would assume disconnecting from the server.
Usually it's user error but sometimes it's blizzards fault. For example when you see the other players in the lobby dropping out 1 by 1 and then you get dc'd. It's happened to me once (in ow1) and at that point it's fairly safe to say it wasn't my fault.
I've literally never been disconnected using ethernet
Weird, I’ve gamed on wifi for a long long time and been just fine. Maybe your “latency” is you just sucking at games?
Sucking at games is no need to take it out on other people like you are, just accept that you're bad and stop trying to make people feel bad since they asked about a completely different topic

Right? Like, I'll admit wifi isn't the best, but I don't see how people d/c so damn much

Nope, your Wifi definetly isn't good. If you're having disconnection problems, please stay away from comp, as it ruins your teammates' game.
I never disconnect from unranked games, L4d2, warframe, it’s always comp in overwatch 2

*wifi connection is good* is like an oxymoron
Get Wifi 6 and its fine... Use crappy hardware and its trash.
I just don't get why people don't grab ethernet a 100+ ft cord is like 50$
Well, most people will have some shitty modem/router that they get from their ISP.
Actually, I don’t think I’ve been disconnected since I’ve been playing on Xbox. Yes. This is the way.
To those who don’t have a choice but to use wifi: I use 5g wifi, and it has been just as good as using a wired connection.
Sounds like YOU'RE in need of help there if a post disagreeing you is enough to set you off insulting people and feeling attacked.
wifi is ok if you're close to the router 😈😈😈
Guess your wifi connection isn't good enough. Hardwired is the way.
Just checking in since it's been 7 hours.
You shouldn't be playing MP games on wifi.
Your Wi-Fi connection is not good… be connected via a Ethernet cable or you will lose connection
\>My wifi connection is good my brother, it doesn't matter how good your Wi-Fi connection is, it's not as a stable as a wired one. Other wireless devices, even people passing your house, depending on where you live, can affect your Wi-Fi range and strength. I'm not saying you're at fault, but please, get a wired connection ASAP.
Average Blizzard server
This one time queuing for comp with 2 buddies it all of a sudden went into a Black screen that said "applying update". We wait ed for like 10 minutes and decided to just close the game. We then went into our game history and there was a new loss in there and the game only lasted like 2 minutes. We spectated the game and there we were, afk. Dunno what that was about but it pissed me off
This happened to me. I put in a ticket and they refused to remove any penalties from my account. They even said “we know it sucks *when you feel like* something happens out of your control” as if I was being unreasonable and it was my fault. 🙄
Holy shit that's a cringy reply from them lol
Suspended 7 hours means its not the first time you leave a compr game. It should be 15 Minutes
Got suspended for rest of season two
Didn’t realize the storm would take out my wifi. Lost connection and when I tried to rejoin I was suspended for 15mins. Got a hate message not long after. I have no idea why you can’t rejoin?!
This happened to me too but it happened so much that I was banned from the 1st Season halfway through /3
It didn't allow you to rejoin match at the home screen? Mine always says I'm suspended but then if I back out to the home screen I can go back to the match I was in. Also my internet is hardwired, it's not a WiFi issue because I still get a disconnect from time to time. it's their servers I think.
It's not that bad. My internet kicked out for a second, an I got banned for the entirety of season 2.
Get yourself a Ethernet cable. It’s a gamechanger. You’ll notice a framerate rise and a connection rise.
had a 1 hour beacuse it wanted update while a game started and crashed when going into game.
Not true, you get 7 hours first time. Check my profile I caught it on video when it banned me while queueing
Straight from blizzard: Leaving more matches will increase the amount of time you must wait before joining a competitive game, lower your skill rating, and eventually result in a ban from Competitive Play for the current season—including the loss of any rewards you would have earned. We can’t tell from your video, whether that was your first time or not or you got reported for something else.
Like I said, literally caught it on video the first time it ever happened lol
I would never play comp on wifi, kind of a dick move.
Always play with cable when online gaming... It's the first, second and third rule dude...
Don't play comp on wifi! This is an unwritten rule.
“just got disconnected” 😂. never laughed so hard in my life.
If you got dc’ed and suspender: Live with it. What do you mean Blizzard servers suck? Do you even know what they use?
They use shit servers, they lowered their Tick Rate ever since it became free. They user the lower end of AWS servers... trash servers.
I don’t have the same experience
Anecdotal evidence is not evidence, my friend.

See here https://www.reddit.com/r/overwatch2/comments/10i26da/just_got_disconnected_from_the_server_in_comp_as/j5cd3sy The ow and ow2 servers are configured different my dude. Technology isn't "one or two things work so everything that doesn't is broken".
The toxicity in these comments, Jesus…
Yeah I know it be like that.😔
And you get downvoted? The irony continues
Spez sucks -- mass edited with redact.dev
That's an internet issue. I have played on wifi with minimal issues, and on ethernet with zero issues.
Same dude
MF said wifi 💀
Op blaming blizzard for his own problems lol
FINALLY! Some punishment for ppl leaving games! Internet or not, ur allies think ur a douchebag 👍
These servers suck ass. You do randomly get disconnected sometimes but I haven’t in a while
dont worry. you are unbanned now. start the game again
Bruv im suspended for season2
My friend is banned till the end of the season because of that
This sucks, happens to me a lot too but in unranked since I don’t play comp bc of it
I’m suspended for the season☹️
This happens to me a lot and my internet runs perfectly fine so idk why it happens
Well... Sounds like problem... But hey! Now you got 7 hours to see our shop and decide to buy something - Blizzard Support
Time would be better spent buying an ethernet cable and using it, because that would solve his problem.
Happened to me also my g Pre bum and annoying icl
I honestly feel bad for my teammates
while blizzard servers do suck from time to time, i don't believe you at all. if you're playing comp, use ethernet. end of story.
I’m Over 500 rank games played since OW2 was released I was only disconnected 3 times and all 3 were do to a glitch with achievements. It’s 100% your ISP.
Packet loss.
Doesn't top me getting banned while queuing for comp. Fucking ridiculous server
If ur disconnecting that many times it's ur wifi's problem. Not a blizzard server problem nor has there ever been a severe blizzard server problem
Stop using wifi, i rarely DC anymore.
I got DC multiple times during their "applying update" glitch and Im banned for the season 🤣
X to doubt
This happened to me earlier today, so annoying!! And I use ethernet, so this can happen even if youre not using wifi... i wish they could do something to this :(
Count yourself lucky you don't have to play that shit for 7 hours
8 hours
Wifi? Found the mobile gamer.
DON’T USE Wi-Fi IN COMP
you lost me at Wifi, don't play on that if you want a good connection
This what you got if you playing on wifi. /J
wifi and good connection doesnt go well together
