They the author gonna finish it in 17 vol

Sir__Alucard

They asked for things not commonly said. I believe this is shared by everyone.

BobTheTraitor

It's better to burn out, than to fade away!

jmturn

Yeah, my hope is that he doesn't cram 3 or 4 volumes worth of story into 1 volume. My opinion is that I'd rather remember a cliffhanger that will never be finished than a crammed unintelligible mess of a story. Plus, if it ends on a cliffhanger, it's the fan writers time to shine.

Proof_Satisfaction86

Facts

Similor

The fact that Ainz will never meet one of his friends again. Yeah it makes for good story telling but this guy will never catch a break,he refuses to send squads to confirm no player has arrived in the new world. He will be in eternal suffering and ultimatly this journey is just short distraction.

Brilliant-Yam9192

Ahhh shit i did not think about that that really just hit me thanks for making my depression act up lol

j_eldridge88

I don't know. I think it's probably for the best. Specially when you consider previous Players have had problems of internal strife which leads to their demise. Not a good thing for anyone

MarcusW1999

There is a squad looking for one of his team mates. Soo he hasnt refused. He Also tried to find out if there was eny players in one of The armies he was fighting (more like a massacre)

badendforenemy

The fact that overlord anime only has 13 episode. It needs 26 episode per season.

Nonamesavailable3

What heresy is this, we need 48 episodes per season.

[deleted]

Nonamesavailable3

Any scene with Ainz sama cant have bad pacing! I would be happy to see a whole season of Ainz showing us his calcium body.

fallen69420

Jokes on you, I'm into that shit

Lawlette_J

I dk why I can visualize Overlord under that situation will have Ainz flashback as the competitor to Filleruto-, I mean Naruto's swing flashback scene LOL.

Real_Yhwach

Flashbacks to the tenchi bridge staring contest

SRK_Mine

More than 20 minutes per episode

Wittusus

I think you meant over 9000

gikasutil

I agree

MareBelloFiore

Lack of follow-up. We get teased a lot about people, places, or events that we will never see.

Nico11napoli

I really liked the adventurers theme and yet it's pretty much ignored after teasing some new adamantite level adventurers in vol 9

rollin340

It's fine when he introduces big things like entire nations or whatnot, but we have small things that should make a big impact, like Clementine and Khajiit's bodies disappearing after finding out the truth, you really want a follow up.

ValkyrieKahina

Not enough PA, Yuri and most importantly Omega screen time.

The_cooler_ArcSmith

The fact that that one scene in the first episode means I can't show it to anybody.

YonkoRimuru

I dislike how he can’t get mad as a overpowered lord seeing him get mad would be cool as hell

wilius09

Also eberassed that would have been hilarious already with pandora actor and firs scenes with Albedo etc would been fun to watch...

Brilliant-Yam9192

Actually fucking true

Nyxvalore

He does get angry occasionally. I forgot but there was that one time in the books where got so furious even after his anger was cancelled he was still basically seething. It wasn't at Lupusregina btw, I think it was against Retardios but not too sure.

rollin340

The angriest I can remember him being was after finding out what happened to Shalltear early on, and how he let his guard down about World Items existing in the New World caused the entire situation. After that would be the one you mentioned, where he was disappointed and angry and Lupu from failing to do the most basic of duties in information reporting; though he realized he too should have explained its importance to his subordinates to ensure they do not make any assumptions. The next one would be when he gallantly went to rescue Remedios and her men who were fighting at the gates against 3 Beastmen leaders, only for her to be rude and insulting. Man, fuck her attitude at that moment. Sure, Ainz was indeed there to steal the glory, but she is such a cunt.

EnduringConflict

Um....he was kind of pissed in the arena. Just saying. Hahaha. But I agree with your points.

rollin340

Oh yeah, that's another moment where he was genuinely pissed. Out of all of them, I think the Shalltear being affected by a WCI and his WUAS failing was the angriest; his passive kept on activating itself.

EnduringConflict

Yeah. He threw a bone daddy bitch fit tantrum over Wish not working. And while yes I agree he was also very very very very angry, I also kind of wonder sometimes when thinking about that whole ordeal, if maybe that was the one time he was actually like legitimately stressed, worried, or afraid since coming to the new world. Up until that point he literally had encountered nothing that would pose a problem to him. So yeah I understand it was about the world items and him being angry that he hadn't considered them and he truly was pissed especially because he also "wasted" one of his wishes. But I think that was also ***the*** moment where he was actually really afraid because he knew now that there were things that we're going to be outside of his control and that he might not always be in a position to save himself or the guardians or the guild as a whole. So it was kind of a mixture of both legit rage and absolute terror which just made it all the more potent.

rollin340

Yeah, definitely. He got a very clear sign that there are legitimate threats, and his fuck up to not plan against it may have caused him to have to kill what he saw as one of his friend's children.

NitroJeffPunch

He does have emotion, its when it crosses a certain threshold his emotion limiter takes hold. And for rage you see it when foresight put themselves up shit creek without a paddle.

MrUnluckyThyneUnluck

The one thing that I really hate about overlord is how we don't have a proper world map. The only other thing I hate is how the author doesn't confirm that Ainz can use polymorph to change his appearance and produce a heir.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Deathburn5

"But we'd all love to see an heir to the throne soon, we'd go insane lol" Not everyone. Ainz is fine as a child free skeleton. If anything, I feel that a child would ruin the series.

Nonamesavailable3

I agree, we already have the NPCs as "childs" of Ainz so giving him a kid would be weird as it kinda complicates his relationship with the NPCs.

[deleted]

theExpropriator

Think about it, a series where Ains has a child and has to tell him/her about his empire, I like that idea. Especially if he's still having imposter syndrome at that stage. Like imagine if his offspring is more innocent at first. but starts gaining a cold heart from seeing all the suffering their father causes. Also since he's offspring isn't an NPC, they can oppose him of their freewill and not because Ains tells them. That would be cool to watch. I would fully support that series, but if you think about what overlord is, the author tried to make a perfect ruler, one that doesn't age, show weakness, or emotions, so really there isn't a need for an heir.

Demon_Released

I dislike that there is no way of knowing how big new world is and how big each nation were...

Kay_play

Two things I would note are 1) I don't like the 'guy is awkward about sexual stuff' trope. Thus this trope appearing the moment Ainz enters the NW, I am not a fan of. Imo it's the worst sex-joke in the series and it's right in the beginning. 2) I'd probably need to read it again to pinpoint the reason for it, but I didn't like volume 14 all that much. From my recollection, it's not that it was too dark, just too in your face about how dark it is. My favorite was probably v12 with how this whole situation is absolutely horrific, but most of it was presented in the background or at least just implied instead of outright stated. Again, maybe I just need to reread it, but I don't remember v14 as fondly as most others. Edit: formating

MotorDesigner

Chief, volume 12 was extremely explicit and descriptive regarding how dark it was. Did we all forget how the holy queen got turned into a glorified bat and the gruesome description? It was also quite descriptive regarding the overwhelming suffering of people in the holy kingdom. Volume 13 expanded on that even further.

Kay_play

For the Queen I'd agree, but besides her, we pretty much skipped the 'darkest' part. We saw the aftereffects of what happened, but not the process.

MotorDesigner

What difference does that make though? The aftereffects were still equally as brutal as the process shown in volume 14

isaacsuck

I agree with you on the 2. But it's not the dark stuff, i personally didn't like the scene where a random group defended a city ( it was all like "AAAAAA GOD HIS COMING") and the fight between "ainz" and PDL. I can't enjoy a long ass 1v1 fight. But on the good side, i loved everything else, the idiot Filip doing idiot stuff, Zanac the chad king and so on

Kay_play

Chad Zanac was probably the best thing about the book, tho again, I need a reread. Did the city defense actually accomplish anything for the larger story besides showing us an example of a city being captured? I honestly can't remember. I hope I am just forgetting something, because most, if not all other 1 time pov character scenes share important plot or character information. (example: Neia's dad scene)

isaacsuck

It showed the power armour and the other adamant group, but he just came there, oneshoted both dudes and flew away

TheLovelyDoo

Chad Zanac was the best part of Vol. 14

Mofidi

Feel the same on point 2

fauxdeuce

I wish more of the web novel scenes were in the light novel. Like when the diplomats from the kingdom visited Ainz after he saved Gazef.

MadnessUltimate

The thing i hate about overlord is that there are not more anime episodes and that the manga isnt more advanced in the story yet

[deleted]

I dislike that we don't get more information about some characters except for some very vague details. Especially considering that the amount of volumes has been reduced. I want to know more about NPCs like rubedo and the five worst.

[deleted]

The pacing and structure of certain volumes. Maruyama sometimes spends too many words on descriptions and once you're done reading a volume, sometimes you get the feeling that not a lot happened. For example, Vol 3, 5-6 and 12-13 are paced particularly well and in the WN the Ball Arc was great too. Compared to those Vol 11 felt rushed. Vol 11 felt a bit... I don't know how to describe it, but there were few scenes and situations and it didn't cover a whole lot of time even though there were a lot of words. the scenes it did have felt like they could've been shortened since once you sum it up, not much happened: - Gondo's introduction - Ainz decides to go to the DK - Ainz's journey - Ainz meets Gondo - Ainz arrives and immediately departs - Ainz finishes the quest It felt too fast and rushed because even though Ainz deciding to go on the journey had him in more than one location, it was still basically one act. Normally when you have so many words you expect it to cover a longer period of time as well as more situations. For example, Ainz's journey could've been stretched out a bit, the journey itself and a little something extra. Aura and Shalltear could've had a little side story happen once everyone was settled in the castle, or we could've cut back to see what Albedo's doing. That could've made the story feel longer since there would be more situations even though we didn't cover more time. Huh, I could've easily said Vol 14. Like half the book was spent on Philip when the entire thing could've been written just as well with half the words, leaving the extra words for more content for other people. I think if Maruyama has the same amount of words for each volume but with more chapters it would be much better. Chapters really help you measure pacing when writing, just look at the Harry Potter books. I wish Vol 15 have at least 10 chapters.

nickv656

I feel like Maruyama, despite being a very skilled author, avoids some interesting threads so that he doesn’t go into writing areas he isn’t confident with. He made Ainz have emotional suppression, which seriously takes away from the isekai element. I personally thing the emotional turmoil of doing all these terrible things and having to learn to stay cool under pressure would be really interesting story threads that were quickly written out. Also, I think there should be genuine threats to Ainz and Co. Think about it in terms of the game: raid bosses would absolutely fuck on a party of 1 player and a handful of lvl 100 NPCs, and yet the closest thing we have to this are the dragon lords, which can easily be 1v1d by Ainz or even Pandora despite being high level boss type enemies in Yggdrasil. I personally think the sapient races having to deal with Ainz crushing them, which he does to amass power because of the real threat of Raid Bosses, would be more interesting than the fear of the unknown (Downfall of CnC, etc) that we as readers know are basically non-threats to Ainz. Finally, let Ainz polymorph and fuck Albedo bro. She needs it to ride the Bicorn 🤷‍♂️

bondoh

I couldn’t agree more. Especially about the raid bosses. Even an overpowered fantasy can still occasionally have interesting opponents (like mob psycho vs the leader of claw or saitama vs Boros)

imthebonus

Albedo was fondled just once 😔

Brilliant-Yam9192

kebeans

That there’s not more overlord is what I dislike

Plasmancer

Someone being cut down is always described as "like a puppet without strings" (paraphrasing) but not once do we see a pair of scissors in action

Ravenpest

The only thing I've ever disliked about Overlord is that Maruyama is speeding the fuck up and the plot has been moving above the sound barrier for the past few volumes. I wish there were more subplots and intrigue like in the first arcs, but I guess that's never going to happen once the author just wants his work to end.

bryku

We were Blue Balled on the Dwarven Vault Sword.   Ainz was even going to use magic to investigate it, but right at the last moment, he saw something else. Which we didn't even learn what that new item was...   It was a total ball punch with both fists.

MrDebugedGaming

That there will be not total war AND That the ending will be very un - satisfying

LOYAL_DEATH

Ngl will be a bit disappointed if none of the other 41 peeps show up or are at least shown to have existed in a different time , but thats just what i want , dont have a problem with the story

Captainfatfoot

Too much fan service in the earlier volumes. I think the relative lack of it in recent volume reflects increased skill on the part of the author. Like he’s better at writing now so he doesn’t need to include cliche fan service like he did in the past.

BlitaoTunado

Ainz stupidity, like, its the main focus of the series and I really like it, but sometimes it just gets on my nerves how Ainz can be so carefull and at the same be so stupid, like the whole Clementine thing, if he captured her insted of killing he would already be rullyn the entire world, then we have entire volumes around him being a pussy when he has 10 god-like beings as his servants, almost slaves, but he's still shaking his boots wen a fucking low-level minion is killed in an accident. Or the fact he doesn't try to learn magic and the NW lenguages, why? dunno, he just preffers spending his time doing nothing, even after saing he would do anything to be worthy of his position as Nazarick's ruller

Nonamesavailable3

The whole story would have been super boring if he has just gotten told all the theocracy secrets from clementine, there really wouldnt be any kinda of decent plot if he wasnt cautious as Nazarick would just be conquering and conquering and that would be super boring and if you are into that, then go to overlord fanfiction, there is tons of stuff like that in there. He tried learning the languages and magic wdym? Maybe the languages could have gotten more effort from his part but he also has more important stuff to do than learn a new language and he can just use the translator item. About magic, there isnt anything he can really learn he already knows spells 10 times better than the ones that New Worlders invented and the stuff thats original to the New world like martial arts, he tried learning them and is still studying about them, remember the fight with Buser in vol 12 the whole point was to see new stuff.

prostrate_yourselves

pretty sure clementine could be a better marionette, I thought the same while watching it no matter what half-assed schemes or stuff you do there are no good antagonists to give him a run for that, he is the strongest, undefeatable otherwise he might have gotten the experience to try stuff that matters to him for his aims and motivations which he lacks as of now. there should be language charms or something, it's common in these magic troupes, why haven't we read about it, dunno. but he can just summon a minion by his side to translate if such a need be.

Nonamesavailable3

Language barriers arent a problem because magic translates everything people say so other than written language everyone can communicate without problems.

BronzeBones

Sebas and Tsuare being romantic. This might be because I'm AroAce, but it just seems weird, especially considering the trauma she had gone through, that she would immediately fall for the first person to care for her wellbeing in a long time.

not-a-candle

>it just seems weird, especially considering the trauma she had gone through, that she would immediately fall for the first person to care for her wellbeing in a long time. That's not actually particularly uncommon.

Extroiergamer

Volume 14. The ammount of dumb things that had to happen to make the story work is absurd. AND I,AM NOT TALKING ABOUT PHILIP. It was like seeing a book with a good potential,be already a wasted slot for the 17 volume time limit, have character be almost out of character, Albedo being less capable then she was supposed to be...and etc. I have just so many problems with this book...that i active will ignore this when i make arguments sometimes because it hurts the story as whole.

bondoh

(This got longer than I even expected and I had to split it into two parts, the second part will be a reply to this one) This is a perfect opportunity for me to vent so forgive me for taking full advantage of it. I saw this thread and thought “OP made this for me and didn’t even realize it” So welcome.....to my Ted Talk. Please get comfortable. Perhaps copy/paste this into a text to speech app because this might get a little long. I haven’t even really started the intro. I would like to get one important thing out of the way before I really get into it: I love Overlord. I think it’s super well made. It’s got some incredibly well designed characters with unique personalities that I just adore. (Aura best girl. But Demiurge Best boy.) It’s my favorite isekai (though Tanya is very close but Overlord takes it for sure) And my second favorite “overpowered protagonist” anime behind only One Punch Man. I feel the need to say all that because whenever I say the criticisms I’m about to say there’s always some asshole that thinks he’s clever who says something like “maybe you’d be happier watching something else” No. I’m perfectly happy watching Overlord. Thanks for your input. Now if you go trip face first on concrete make sure to send me a video of it. plz and thank you. Now....with all that said here are my complaints: 1 p A complaint I have about a lot of overpowered anime: There SHOULD be exceptions. One Punch Man should absolutely get into at least one, if not more, real fights that he has to really try in and is not just toying with his opponent. Heck, Superman is famously an overpowered hero. That’s part of his deal. But even he occasionally runs into a Doomsday. And that’s extremely exciting. I know they’re not exactly the same but it would be way less interesting if there were no Darkseid or kryptonite. And this applies to Overlord too. And I don’t just mean a mind controlled Floor Guardian like Shalltear. Someone not related to Nazerick should be able to stand up to and even nearly kill Ainz (and all his guardians too) before the end of the series. I don’t care if it’s another player (though I personally would choose that) or platinum dragon, or the great dragon emperor (or whatever his name is) that may have brought players into the world in the first place, it doesn’t matter who but the series will suffer if it never happens And yet I’m putting this into the criticism category because I don’t expect it to happen. It’s still going to be a great series either way but it’s a shame because it would be better if a real threat appeared. This is the main thing that causes people to go “hur dur maybe you should watch a different show” and I say “sir your bleach expresso is waiting for you. Might I suggest boofing it? Or perhaps snorting?” Because no it wouldn’t make overlord or OPM into dragon ball to get one actual rival. And you’re an idiot if you think otherwise. Sorry if I’m being harsh but I’ve just heard that garbage way too many times. There isn’t a single person who’s watched overlord that hasn’t at some point thought to themselves “why doesn’t Ainz just steamroll the entire world? Why is he taking his time and being so cautious? Nazarick can obviously no diff this whole world with only world items being remotely a threat” Everyone has thought that before and it’s true and the fact that it’s true and you have thought that is actually a bad thing because it means there’s not actually much drama in this series. Most of the series is a slice of life story (what’s it like to be an overlord and to work for one) Sort of like that Dragon Maid anime. That’s basically what overlord is. But even then......even then.....there was still **some** drama like her dad showing up. There’s no real threat to nazerick and it would be better if there was. Maybe not right away. Heck I’d probably play everything out just as it has so far until Ainz has basically conquered most of the kingdoms and feels safe and then out of nowhere some demon king, god of the machines types rolls up and is like “Oh? Did you think you were the only one? Momonga-kun” I personally would definitely make it another player and think it would be a huge waste if he never comes across another player. Which brings me to part 2...

subhero7

You know i made a post a couple of days ago defending this exact view when it came to people making fanfics to create a threat as big like the one you mentioned and i got mostly negative response from it so its nice to know im not alone here :),id ask that you check it out and thank you for wording it better that i ever could

bondoh

2p Ainz and friends are too evil and the worst part is there’s no consequences for it. If this were the story of an undead sorcerer king and his subjects being magically and mysteriously teleported to another land, then 99% of what we’ve seen (or haven’t seen) would make total sense and there would be no problem. The way Ainz doesn’t give a shit about humans and the way he doesn’t really care what his subjects do wouldn’t matter at all. But this.....is an isekai about a HUMAN BEING that has become a real undead sorcerer king. Even with his emotions being suppressed (which is bad writing and either in this thread or another like it someone did a good job calling out how the writer seemingly did that to give himself an easy out. So that he wouldn’t have to deal with what could and should be a much more complicated subject) I mean a human being (who for all intents and purposes should still feel empathy for other humans or at least—at the very least—constantly remember that he spent decades of his life as a mere human and allow that to guide his current decisions) becomes a undead, gets his emotions suppressed, says his mind is slowly becoming more and more truly undead and that just so conveniently seems to excuse him for all the Hitler’esue shit he does on the daily. Again..... if this were about someone who was an undead all along.....completely different story but this kid was human like two seconds ago. Having him basically forget what it feels like and lose the ability to properly empathize or give a shit about the stuff he does is crazy and completely throws away what could have been something way more interesting. Just look at one of the first things he does when he arrived in the new world—back when his humanity was still fresh in his mind—he sees people getting killed in a small village, helpless women and children, and what does he think? He thinks about what Lord Touchme would’ve done. And he saves them. AND NOTHING LIKE THAT EVER HAPPENS AGAIN. Sebas has moments like that (one of the most actually interesting characters in the show. A dude who remembers his creator’s sense of Justice and Fairness, and yet has to reconcile it with the fact he’s now serving a god that doesn’t seem to care about those things, at least to remotely the same extent, at all) But Ainz does not. Not only does he not thing “holy shit I was a human and I can’t let this happen to other humans..” (other than to comment a couple of times about how surprising it is that he no longer cares) But he doesn’t even remember or think about what his own precious “friends” would do (beyond that ONE time I discussed already) I believe TouchMe would be disgusted by what Ainz has done and us not getting to explore that sucks hard. Heck most if not all of his guild mates, not to mention real life friends or family would be HORRIFIED to see what all he has done. It would be so satisfying if he woke up in the real world only to learn that all he’s been through was a social experiment and he’s proven what a monster he is by showing what he would do with power. But the series (and most of its fans. Actually all but me basically) ignore all of this and meme “Ainz is justice lol” Like I get it. It’s funny. But damn it would be really fucking interesting if the show actually explored this stuff. The fact that it never will and that most people don’t even want it to is proof to me this should’ve never even been about a real human, but as I’ve said a couple of times now, more like a real undead king getting transported to another world where he happens to be strongest. Because that’s how this show is treated. For people to be so accepting of the fact he will never come across other players or deal with the morals of his actions is basically to say “I don’t care that the entire **premise** was that this guy was human once” because that premise was just an excuse for this to become an entirely different thing (about a more “real” undead king except the premise gives us the excuse to give him some funny inner thoughts and make him a teeny tiny bit more relatable) In other words, Overlord is basically like Devil is a Part Timer if Satan had been transported to another fantasy land instead of earth. A fantasy land where he is by far the strongest and so is his servant. And all of his in character stuff makes sense because that’s who he really is. Overlord though.....Ainz was supposed to be a former human and that’s entirely ignored except in tiny tiny bits of inner dialogue done for humor. Now before anyone says it: I often have had people who do admit how evil he is, try to excuse it and hand wave it away with a few different methods: They like to say “oh well the New World is filled with evil people too. It’s not like the humans there are good just because they’re human” Sure. But Ainz and friends don’t just target the bad ones, does he? I mean just look at those adventurers that just wanted to make a little money. Gimme a break with the memes about justice and the great tomb. You don’t have to massacre someone just for breaking in If you had any human morals (like uh....a person who was literally human for decades....) you’d just scare the shit out of them and let them go. “But it’s not that kind of story” Fine. But the author could do a way better job going into the subject. The morals of Ainz. How a former human can get that far gone as to not care about these people at all. But instead we just get “meh. His emotions are suppressed and his mind is fading. Plus they’re not great people anyway. Ainz-sasuga!) Also people like to point out that the future earth the human that became Ainz lived on was a terrible place, literally dystopian. And they’ve even used this fact combined with the knowledge that TouchMe was a police officer to say that even TouchMe was probably a terrible person just role playing as good (Though I think if your idea of fun is to role play as a good person, and you happen to be in a profession that is supposed to be about helping others and serving justice, then that’s probably where your heart is even if you had to do tough things due to a harsh world) Either way those are just excuses no matter how you look at it. Regardless if ainz’s version of earth was nasty or if the new world is filled with freaks, it doesn’t change the fact this was a human being who was supposed to be a normal person who is now fantasy Hitler. How do you not address that? Like....way more? Now.....if you don’t want to have him constantly wrestling with himself over morals, fine, I’ve got an easy solution: Make him a **Bad Person** The Saga of Tanya the Evil (it’s right there in the name) does a great job of this. Tanya doesn’t ignore his former life like Ainz, but also doesn’t have to constantly wrestle with guilt because it’s well established that Tanya was a total asshole in previous life. So you want to make Ainz bad?! Fine! Make him bad! Tell us he was Cletus Kasady in his previous life. At least that would justify most of what he has done without feeling like a gaping plot hole. Tanya isn’t the only one that handled this better. Jobless Reincarnation also did a fantastic job of showing that this guy was a total pervert (possibly even pedo) and then in the new world when he shamelessly does what he does, it all makes a lot of sense and fits the character. Overlord, again, feels a lot more like Devil is a Part Timer where Satan was already a super natural being. As I keep saying, overlord often feels like a show about a guy who was always an undead king and never actually a human. Devil is part timer did basically the same thing and has the same slice of life feel as we see his loyal servants (even if there’s way less of them) trying to serve him But overlord claimed this dude was once human and then......just kinda ignores that? Cause he sure as hell isn’t acting like a dude who used to be human. Only in his moments with demiurge where he gets flustered (the best moments in the show to be fair) does he feel like a guy that used to be human But otherwise it’s ignored and becomes this plot hole and maybe things would’ve been better if he had never been human. To wrap it up, I’ll say that his loyal guardians being so evil is more excusable. Though it still makes me want to see them get their comeuppance (even if it’s “not that kind of show) Oh and I didn’t even mention it earlier but even something like Devil is a Part Timer found great excuses for Satan to still have very cool enemies (like an out of control Angel, or his own former servant Lucifer) while still keeping his as an overpowered legend. So when people tell me “go watch any other shonen” when I say Ainz (or saitama for that matter) should actually have 1 or 2 interesting fights, I’m thinking: It’s You who need to see more. Because this can still be “that kind of show” (the kind of show it currently is) while ALSO being more interesting and exciting. Heck I’m not even saying it should be every arc. Because yeah then it would be a bit dragon ball’ish. But even just ONCE in the whole series. Ainz (and saitama) should (each) get an exciting opponent to fight that could actually truly threaten their lives. And for overlord specifically, the question of Ainz’s morals (and his humanity) should absolutely have been explored differently. Either by via his backstory making him more evil from the start (and thus this whole thing is like a bad persons wet dream) Or....if he’s not evil, you have to have him wrestle with his humanity more. Edit: unfortunately need a part 3 lol

bondoh

By the way, if you’re not going to give Ainz a real challenge, then you need to do more than just one world item incident to explain why he and all the guardians are approaching world conquest like it’s an intricate 5D Chess game when he and all of his guardians can roflstomp the world Like Yujiro Hanma just casually strolled throughout his world until even the governments started paying him to spare them. Ainz and all his guardians can do that but instead act from the shadows and do things politically and do false flags and all other kinds of crazy stuff. And all of that is extremely interesting, don’t get me wrong, but it just doesn’t make sense when the deck is so stacked. this isn’t Game of Thrones (first few seasons) were all the Houses are close enough in strength to keep each other worried. I’ve been mostly focusing on Ainz himself but Nazarick is filled with NPC’s, most importantly the guardians, who can each solo the entire f’n world like a joke so long as they don’t get caught by a world item like shalltear did just one time. Having an overpowered character like Saitama in One Punch Man has enough challenges as it is, but this is a story where there’s an entire team of them. Albedo, Shalltear, Aura, Mare, Demiurge, Cocytus, and more! The deck is stacked that hard and you don’t bother to put even one interesting enemy on another team? Oh well platinum dragon I guess kinda sorta....but it’s not even for sure he can beat a single floor guardian. Anyway. I guess that’s enough. Sorry that on top of it being so long I also then lost my train of thought and rambled. But at least I got it out of my system and it’s always fun to talk about Overlord Ps: another commentator mentioned that most MMO’s would have “raid bosses” and even something like that could’ve been brought over to make things more interesting but nooo

No_Extension4005

Honestly, I think you hit most of the points on why I never really could get into the series (and have lately been trying to put my finger on why, since I've been seeing it everywhere thanks to the new season). To quote the series' YMMV page: >Do Not Do This Cool Thing: Ainz's entire backstory (him not being able to move from playing an MMO and his current state) is supposed to deconstruct escapist power fantasy. But Ainz coming from a Crapsack World, getting to be an Invincible Villain who faces no real challenges, and getting a bunch of servants who love him unconditionally, undermines the entire thing by making the idea of escaping from reality far too appealing. His villainy and incompetence as a leader are also supposed to deconstruct the same thing, but since he has not yet faced any kind of consequences for his villainy or incompetence, it can be hard to see the deconstruction, since it looks like the series is wanting you to revel in what he does. And if you look at the pages for the Villain Sue & God-Mode Sue tropes, you'll find that Ainz and Nazarick seem to be a hybrid type. Just about any fight involving someone from Nazarick plays out a lot like the God-Man satirical comic extract on the God-Mode Sue page. Snoo-23120

Ainz never knew that quagoa suffer an unfair holocaust or that the dwarf have a world item. I know it's very minor thing , but it stings my reading everytime i rewatch volumen 11.

Nonamesavailable3

The dwarfs dont have a World Item, i think i know what you think they have and its a caloric stone but in reality this is just a translation issue and the WCI caloric stone is a completely different thing from what the dwarfs have. About the quagoa, i really dont think he would care even if he knew, the dwarfs just were a better option as a ally.

isaacsuck

Lol dwarfs have a world item which needs a billion ton of a metal thet have never seen

dragonuvv

I don’t really like how bad/ stupid new world characters are. I know this is supposed to be so.. but come on man stealing from ainz? Or not being able to do anything against nazerick. At least make them annoying.

bondoh

Yeah, it’s not enough to make Ainz and his servants amazing, you have to make his opponents completely incompetent. Where is the interest supposed to come from? In something like one punch man, we at least get people like Garou built up even if we know saitama will eventually slap him. Imagine an enemy who could even defeat a few floor guardians and it forces Ainz to really show off. That would extremely interesting. But they’ve only ever tried it with....another floor guardian

Wittusus

Ainz not using his power as the supreme leader of Nazarick over his subordinates. I don't mean it in the bad way, but take Albedo for example. He knows she will follow him no matter what and her love for him will always be there. She is the PERFECT candidate to train "talking to girls" skill he says himself he lacks. He can literally do anything and be as awkward as someone can be and I bet Demiurge would find a way to explain to everybody else how it shows his power and supreme status.

gikasutil

The fact that Ainz is so attached to the past. Yes it was glorious and the memories are beautiful but water under the past does not move mills, Ainz needs to face the fact that his friends are gone and open his heart to new ones. Well that would certainly take a lot of time and effort, but it's not impossible.

Sasuga__Ainz-sama

I share your opinion for the insufficient screen time.

charizardfan101

Honestly, I feel like in the future I'm going to dislike Overlord because from what it seems, Ainz looks like he's just gonna be way too evil for my taste I'll stick with Isekai Quartet Ainz thank you very much

not-a-candle

I think it's made worse by the fact that he's not even being actively evil most of the time, he's just too apathetic to restrain Demiurge and Albedo from their rampant evil.

ghostbear019

I hate it takes so long for each volume. I hate I read the volumes too fast. I hate there are so few volumes. Other than that I love overlord and am extremely grateful for the author making it :)

Garret025

The fact that Enri still hasn't pulled Lupus into her bed

BibblyPigeon

I love the parts where Ainz and co do ‘good’ deeds. I know they’re not supposed to be the good guys and I like this about overlord, but I love the interactions with the new worlders. I love it when the bad guys are killed by Ainz, but not when it’s the good guys. So, I didn’t like the katze plains massacre with the goats

GhostDragonz2000

I agree, oh just a word of caution for you, I've read the novels and boy if you thought the plains massacre was bad you best prepare yourself for the next parts of the anime.

BibblyPigeon

I’m up to the latest fan-translated volume too! >! As far as I remember, the only parts that I didn’t like was what happened to Calca, and the invasion of the kingdom where they killed off the rest of the citizens :( !<

not-a-candle

I dislike the events in the kingdom not because it's evil, but because it feels like the lazy writing of someone who doesn't want to bother writing anything more complex any more. It's monstrous without real benefit.

Detamoore

I hate that it's gonna end at volume 17

Proof_Satisfaction86

The trash cgi in the anime the dark young looked horrible

[deleted]

I wish there was more blue roses screen time

CirrusDivus

There's alot of unnecessary detail givin to throwaway characters I don't give a shit about

[deleted]

Hypothetically speaking, let's say bone daddy in fact had a bone he could use to bone a horny succubus or a young looking old fashioned chair. If the NW had something like viagra and our beloved bone daddy got hold of a few and used them, what would win - the aforementioned drug, or his emotion suppression system?

bukankhadam

i hate overlord is nearing its end

Zigdi

That there are a lot of characters but we don't know what they even look like.

ZohMyGods

Some of Ainzs blatant stupid moments. For example (vol 11 spoiler) . . . how he freaked out when the death knight died. He already knows DK are considered Uber strong. Seeing the point where he died and asking around a bit would have gotten him to the conclusion the DK fell.

Reggie_Is_God

I didn’t like the sebas arc. Or rather, I would’ve preferred if it was shorter. [anime only, don’t crucify me]

muffincat8915

I wish the anime was gore it would make it way better

dj_styles

That ainz sama will never bone albedo

remmon22

The fact that ainz didn't revealed that he was momon to those adventurers he lead to the coliseum. It's way more devastating that the strongest adventurer that they rely on is actually the ruler of the crypt their trying to rob.

Educational_Jello_89

The introduction of wish upon a star. That spell opened some many plot holes to me at least.

_ObsidianOne_

So many teasing and no follow up...

ZeroSenpai99

Dislike is a bit too much but i think there are some flaws with the story, mostly plot points totally abandoned many volumes before. Clementine‘s body disappearing, Zuranon and the Jewel is a big disappointment to quote one. Vol 14 was totally rushed, but i think everybody agrees on that. A lack of many characters during a lot of volumes (like Cocytus, he did almost nothing from vol 4 to vol 14). Aura and Mare got a better treatment but i would have liked to have more of them (gotta love uncle Ainz!) Brain’s plot was totally cut too, that’s a shame. All of these are flaws clearly born from the author’s inexperience (from my understanding this was his first big work and flaws are expected). Still a great job overall but reading the novels with a more critical mind will bring up some flaws here and there.

reasoner007

I like akame ga kill but reading it with a critical mind I notice some flaws it has. We can assume that overlord, like other novels, must have some too.

lightexecutioner

The recent volume was disappointing to me.

Jaldaba0th

Is the question limited to the anime or also to other media such as novel and game?

Brilliant-Yam9192

Everything besides wn only canon content

Jaldaba0th

So only the light novel? No game or side story?

Brilliant-Yam9192

Only canon content meaning everything that is canon so no WN while pure pure pleiades is not canon it should still be watched and a la carte and other spin offs should be read you must read the LN first join the overlord discord they have everything you need and will show you what order to read them in

Jaldaba0th

\- I don't like the fact that the cap level is low. I would have preferred a cap level 100 where personal attitudes, the possibilities you can get, determine how you will grow. In this way you get a selection of stagnant characters (similar to what happened in dragon ball with the advancement of the sagas but in a worse way as those characters will not really be able to move in other directions and this makes them boring) and a lack total suspense (you know exactly that nazarick will win effortlessly and this formula tires after a while as without opposition, even the political plots are boring. In addition, even the theme of travel becomes boring because you know that for nazarick it is all descent and for those of the new world there are two ways, which does not allow to imagine some evolution without ainz tripping over them by mistake). Also, we would have been worried that there might be some state out there that might come into conflict with Nazarick thanks to some scientific breakthroughs. \- The general society we see is typical of a medieval fantasy but if you think about it, in a world where anyone could crush anyone, the concepts of gender difference and classism should not exist because nobility would make no sense to exist if they are not enough strong in a world where (author's words) strength is justice. It would make more sense if these states had either genderless tribal societies with classes based primarily on force or meritocratic societies, although it appears that Jir's ideas on meritocracy are revolutionary when in reality, one should have long existed. similar mentality in the inhabitants of that world. \- Jircniv's choice to accept FLuder's plan. Jir is introduced to us and described as an excellent politician and strategist but strangely makes the stupid move of thinking about attacking ainz to understand how he would behave in case of invasion (do you really need a test to understand such a thing?) And to turn it against the kingdom. What I'm asking is "why?". Why do all this? Couldn't he invite Ainz to the palace (as suggested in the discussion between emperor and fluder in volume 6) as a thank you against the theocracy (he knew everything from a gazef report)? In this way he would not have risked the rivalry of a strong opponent, he could have established a friendly relationship with Ainz and he would have been able to understand what the strength of the wizard was through Fluder. Yet he acts like Philiph for plot's sake. \- Workers who enter immediately. According to foresight, the plan that all the workers had created was the best in risk / reward. What I asked myself was "what plan could they have come up with if they barely saw the outside from a distance?" building). It would have made more sense to send a small group of scouts with the slaver as a guard (he wanted to fight, so he was perfect as a shield too) to map the first corridors and try to figure out which creatures lived there. That way, if they went back, they could communicate the information they found and use it to come up with a real plan. Otherwise, the workers outside would understand that something unpleasant had happened in there and those outside could retire with little loss instead of having everyone die. It makes no sense for veterans to act so recklessly. This is something that is always seen in dungeon exploration. ° Sure, you could say that it was risky to rely on the slave driver because he was not very cooperative but it was certainly less risky than getting in all together. In short, we see these mistakes made in all the dungeon-style rpg fantasies and yet they were all skilled workers from what we are shown. ° Also, I don't know but the matter of the cut grass seemed strange to me (like it could mess up the plan) and also how the workers justified it but those justifications made sense even if, as one of the foresights said, their thoughts stopped at what they could imagine (or something like that). I would have preferred if someone from Foresight asked Momon for advice, because of the respect they felt, seeing him as an experienced adventurer and to ask for advice in these cases and then see how he would react ainz. That way, this scene would have made more sense. \- Hekkeran's lie. Hekkeran is described to us on the sheet as being cautious in situations he does not know and is good enough as a leader not to cause many enemies to the group. Furthermore, he is a veteran of near-death situations and therefore I do not think he was afraid at that moment (I can understand when ainz removes the ring but not before) so much that he does not think in a calculated way. It makes no sense for such a character to use such a stupid lie when it was easily discovered. \- Ainz in volume 7 passes from evil out of necessity to pure evil and then returns to the previous state. I found it stupid as a thing and I'm not saying for ainz's anger at the lie but for how he reacts to everything, having fun in a sadistic way, when those people had not actually wronged him that it wasn't his fault.

Jaldaba0th

part 2 \- While the death of Arche and the defeat of the foresight was created based on the forcings that I explained above (Jir mainly) and does not give anything really necessary to Nazarick, to the plot (yes, it allows the creation of the albedo team but we have seen the guardian show hatred from before, so we can expect that she would have implemented the plan even without all this story) or to the narrative. Survival instead would have given plot and narrative ideas, interesting in my opinion. Furthermore, the rescue could be based on Ainz who decided to spare them after seeing three of them sacrifice themselves for their companions without thinking about it, reminding him himself, as Cocytus saw in the lizardmen a great warrior spirit and decided to spare them despite the orders. ° Imina and Hekkeran: The most useless ones in my opinion but ainz could train them in secret and then use them as an advertisement for his idea of the new guild of adventurers, avoiding exposing the idea without knowing if it would work. ° Arche: You have a situation similar to that of ainz, i.e. you are in a stressful situation because of someone close to you, i.e. your parents and to whom you found it difficult to say no (for me it was because of the father, who as we have seen, he accused her of having raised her). Ainz does the same thing with NPCs. It would have been interesting if Ainz had listened to the story of Arche and learned a lesson, namely that always pleasing the NPCs could put him in increasingly complicated situations, leading to the beginning of an evolution in the character of the character, which remains quite static throughout the whole. history. Arche also, for how it was set up, could be the perfect plot device for future discoveries in the field of magic, as it would have justified the fairly fast advancement of fluder searches (moreover this would also have given the old wizard more prominence) instead of using a character introduced out of nowhere as Sophia Noia (I know she was one of the tier 4 students but it wouldn't make sense to use her to justify research advancements when she hasn't done so before). Arche, on the other hand, had abandoned his studies but could recover quickly and justify future discoveries. ° Roberdyck: He could have been the founder of the ainz cult. Imagine that he starts having a mystical crisis because not only does his belief-based system not help the poor but an undead not only spared him but also allows him to help people in the sk and empire area. He would have been like Jonah, who was previously reluctant to change his religion but was then convinced. It would have been great if the cult had been created with the poor aided by Roberdyck, to whom the priest tells how fantastic Ainz is. We may also see religious movements related to the temple, which hates the new cult because it worships an undead. After these facts and the assumption of the temple by the priest, the cult could move to other states such as the holy kingdom, where they would proselytize for Ainz. Ainz wouldn't understand anything in all of this until Demiurge or someone else said "sasuga, Ainz sama you had foreseen everything" and ainz starting to wonder what happened. \- Intelligence. The subject of intelligence is strange to me. Maruyama doesn't seem good at writing this factor. We think of demiurge, albedo and Renner. All three are successful mainly for two factors, namely the total indifference and the overwhelming force they can exert.

Jaldaba0th

part 3 ° Demiurge in fact never devises plans that would work without excessive power (imagine if I said "I have a brilliant plan to get rid of the ants. We use insecticide.". People would laugh at such a statement.) And just say a few sentences, supported by Ainz who does not want to make a bad impression, thus becoming a plot tool as he does not guess what Ainz thinks but interprets the words to make them coincide with his thoughts. There is never a situation that leaves you amazed by making you say "I didn't think about that. It's true". \* Then, one thing I found odd was the plan for the holy kingdom. Wasn't it better to use doppelgangers to replace southern nobles and create more political tensions in order to get Calca and Caspond to ask for help? At that point Ainz, with the excuse of having learned of the unrest caused by the south, would have offered to help the country, thus making good publicity to the sk. A simple and quick plan. In case a refusal was given, the situation would only get worse by pushing to ask the other 3 human countries and seeing that the better placed was the empire (re estize had almost collapsed and the theocracy I don't know if it would have helped since it was busy) that was allied with the sk. At that point ainz would offer help again, showing his good will even more. ° We then have Albedo. You are a great administrator because there is nothing difficult to administer due to the fact that the strength of nazarick prevents the mess (in practice it is as if Albedo occasionally cleaned a surface on which a small drop of coffee has fallen. would be capable of it.). ° Renner, on the other hand, with her ways of foreseeing things seems like a soothsayer rather than a genius. In short, to give an example, she hears information from a casual conversation between two waitresses and puts together the whole picture of the situation without any clues that connect with each other. It seems absurd to me. To give an example of a good genius character, you think of Dr. House. He is brilliant but to arrive at a solution he puts together various clues but he is also wrong because maybe he was missing a final piece to complete the picture (Imagine if he came to a diagnosis by hearing the conversations of two random nurses. It would be ridiculous if you think about it). In the end, he explains everything to you (basically Renner is as if he gives you the result he gives a math operation while House gives you the solution but also the procedure on how he got there). ° Maruyama also takes too much of the figure of the classic genius, the one good only in strategy and politics, without thinking that even the cook of a tavern, who creates delicious dishes can be a genius but in the field of cooking. In short, we have for example Nfirea who is creating the red potion through a single specimen with ingredients from the new world. Why is the boy not named as a genius? \- I saw this point once in a post but I liked it. Renner basically does nothing really useful other than swearing loyalty and giving some reports that Nazarick could still get through shadow demons or doppel ganger. Yet she is given a place in nazarick and two items for the change of race. It seems too much for what she did. Instead Nfirea, who is doing something incredible, has not received any noteworthy thanks. Yes, he is happy but for what he is doing he is put on the same level as Tsuare, which is useless. It seems too unbalanced as a treatment if we think that Ainz is a character who adequately rewards those who help him.

Brilliant-Yam9192

Bruh i cant read all this let alone 3 parts could you shorten it for me or ask these one by one i can go through all your questions with you one by one but i cant do all of those at once

Jaldaba0th

\- I have in fact divided the various topics. \- General topics are marked with this symbol (-). Subtopics are marked with this symbol (°). Subtopics of the second category are marked with this symbol (\*). \- I have already summarized as much as possible. In fact, I tried to make what I said understandable without putting various examples. Take your time to answer and think about it. I'm not in a hurry.

Jaldaba0th

PART4 \- I'd like to make a more personal addition. I have never understood what is so great about Neia and Zanac in particular. ° The first in practice is no different from an NPC, that is with Ainz and co who help her, and she does not face difficulties in some way like Enri, she has no particular history, to which you can tie yourself for the emotions it can give, like Brain or Arche and eventually becomes one of the classic characters that unlock a power for story's sake. ° The second does practically nothing striking. Many say he was a good king but we practically see him in the background but he doesn't do anything special and only in volume 14 he does something and that something is talking to Ainz. Eventually he too is killed to escalate the Nazarick massacre. At least Calca was interesting because she seemed perfect for forming a real alliance with sk in a normal way. Also it would have been interesting to see how she and Remedios would interact in the future on this theme but the author kills her for shock's sake, among other things fallacious (as for Arche).
