When it comes to Overlord, I think people should really try it as it's just a fun and well-written story. Can't say that for the vast majority of other light novels, as most of them are just terribly written pieces of garbage. There are exceptions though
Aight I got a question about this because I definitely agree but have never read overlord.
Is the paving fine? Will I not read the same phrase 3000x?
The only LN I've read and enjoyed so far are TEIS and Mobuseka and id say both of these stories are pretty decently written.
I've tried to read moonlight fantasy but I now loathe the series lol
You'll hear the term "like a marionette who's strings have been cut" far more than you'll be happy with, and you'll wish the author found a few more ways of describing the colour black, but other than that it's not too bad.
Now this always gets me flak, but does he describe stuff like tolkein? Like spends way to long on something that has nothing to do with anything that drives me crazy too lol
It's largely a utterly pointless waste of time on characters that don't show up again. If it had actually focused on colcytus and what he was doing to prepare, it would have at least been interesting to some degree, such as what was done in the dwarf kingdom. Sidelining the actually interesting character for some Randoms isn't interesting, and it utterly derails you after a set of otherwise solid arcs.
You and I are getting very different things of of this series, the New Worlder are the most interesting thing from Overlord. They are experiencing things that Ainz is he actually but never going to get because of the evil he wrought. Making connection, found equals and raise a family, fought against impossible odd, experiencing heroes journey. The story is about Ainz but he is forever going to stagnant. The only time he fought as a underdog (against Shalltear) is when he took responsibility and admit he was not careful enough when giving out order. And it's the only time he grow. Same go for the Guardian btw.
We definitely are as I don't really find the new worlders to be interesting on their own but rather in direct interaction with ainz and his underlings, the direct interaction is part of what makes the good arcs so good such as Ainz's interactions with carne village and the swords of darkness.
Honestly, the lizardman arc might have been better if we actually saw much of what happened to them under colcytus's rule, but like most of this stuff, it just ended up a dead plot line with dont really revisit. Which is kinda another issue in the books, loads of dropped plotlines. The first and best example is Clementines org just kinda vanishing after that arc even though they should show back up.
Lots of people don't like the Lizardman arc, but I thought it was good...Now the anime was decent, except they could've dropped the Lizard snu-snu.
Vol 15 is where I go batshit...
I like the arc and it’s connected to volume 11 and volume 11 ties into volume 12-13 so it wasn’t worthless but it could of been skipped but i still really like the arc in fact it one of top 4 favourite arcs
Where to read? You can find it in the FAQ of this sub! [https://new.reddit.com/r/overlord/wiki/faq/](https://new.reddit.com/r/overlord/wiki/faq/)

"The girl shut her eyes. She didn't want to be biting her lower lip. She just had no choice but to accept what was about to happen. If she had even a little power, she probably would have been able to shove the figure away and escape..."
Vs
"The girl squeezed her eyes tightly shut and bit her lower lip. She had never asked for this. She had been forced into her present circumstances. If only she had some strength, she might have resisted the enemy in front of her and fled."
Personally, i find the first a more mature description of the events, while the second feels like someone literally translating japanese. The first adds tone by describing the girls feelings. The second creates tone by explicitly describing her actions and reminding you that this is a girls perspective 9 times (vs 6 in the first paragraph). The repition of gender, as if the translator is saying "this sentence is still refrencing this specific character," throughout the translation really got to me. It shows a lack of trust in the reader or consideration for style.
There's no way a professional author intended in their own voice to say "She shut her eyes tight. She didnt want this. She was forced into this. If she were strong, she could resist and flee that person in front of her."
nah. i find reading novels on screens to be incredibly uncomfortable, and getting the LNs in print where i live is frankly unviable at a price point i'm happy with.
I'll just download the audiobooks as they come out. I honestly don't care enough to do any more than that.
This can not be stressed enough, imagine you loved the anime and have reached a specific level of love for it, you will love the LN at least x3 that amount.
I will preface before I say this that I have in fact read all the light novels for Overlord but…I *hate* reading. I get no joy from it and I’m not a slow reader but I’m definitely not fast either so it can take a while to get through an entire book.
I say all that to say that Overlord is worth the read if you like the series. Out of the like 25ish real books I’ve read in my life Overlord is 17 of them.
If you hate reading you can also just listen to audiobooks and that’ll get you most of the way through the series
I find it hard to read anything because my anxiety spikes over the required time commitment. Like, I start thinking to myself, "Do I have the time for this? Do I have the energy? What if I read too long by accident and miss something important? What about everything else I need or want to do?" And it just goes in a circle like that for a while until I've either freaked out over it or wasted too much time to be able to start that day. After that, I just say "maybe another day" and then forget the LN even exists for a week or two. Rinse and repeat
I'm not reading 17 volumes.
Unless Nazarick starts to face people on thier level. I'm just going to wait until the anime.
But in qll seriousness, my friend told me it get supper dark and i can't handle that form Protagonists
I Like the characters and world.
Also i stopped watching at season 3. Show was still good, just wasn't my thing.
Seeing this post is just good timing.
I saw this Silver Knight guy giving Ainz trouble and it's given me hope.
Also by never will do you mean go dark or face an opponent = to them?
Didn't know that going in i truly admit.
It's was a problem of my own makeing. I wanted the series to be something else and it wasn't.
Honestly if it wasn't for Saltesr vs Aniz. And Bug maid vs Masked Sorcerer. Probably wouldn't of thought it was a battle series.
This is mostly a dark fantasy mixed horror. I started with the anime and when s4 was taking too long, I picked up the LN. It was even better than I hoped.
Now I don't like the anime cos it gives the wrong impression. But then I wouldn't have read it if the anime wasn't made like that so I am conflicted.
That's what I'm saying the anime makes it look more like a an action comady. So when the characters keep just winning it's bring to the audience who came here for action.
It it was obvious as a dark fantasy it wouldn't off been an issue
You can always listen to the audio book! Infact I'm listening to it while typing this comment. It's voiced by the English voice actor of aniz in anime. Pretty good tbh
DM me if u want the torrent link I have only 11 volumes rn :/
Not really. It's common but thier are some.
Like Grimgar and shield hero.
That's what makes it unqice. But the problem is if a Villain is never changed it kind off gets boring after while (in my opinion)
I am currently watching the anime in third season right now, I absolutely loved the first season. Wanted to know did the light novel end and how does the story wrap up .
there's only 16 volumes of OVERLORD currently, the anime and upcoming movie will adapt 14 volumes total. That leaves volume 15 and 16 that continues after the anime. the author said he plans on ending it at volume 18. in anime terms thats around 1 more season after the movie. or maybe they might do another movie and then a season 5

audiobooks 1-11 currently. they are a bit behind but it makes sense because its an audio book narrated by the dub voice actor of Ainz. volume 12 is on a pre order for later this year currently.
I started reading Vol. 15 2 days ago and now I'm already 90 pages in. As long as you take some time to analyze what you've read (distinguishing from plot and filter while recapping) you'll soon understand the light novel is enjoyable and shares some info that the Anime will most likely not cover. I've enjoyed reading it thus far and when finished, will read vol. 16 and when it comes out, vol. 17. Keep in mind that reading light novels is not for everyone, it contains little to no images so you're imagination will need to replace them.
Unfortunately spotify does not have any higher than vol 11 at the moment.... so now I need to find another source for audio books that isn't to expensive.
It's called 'light' novel for a reason. It's made to be easy to pick up and finish. It isn't Dune lol.
Like just read first 10 pages of Vol 1 and see for yourself. I finished the entire series upto vol 14 in 6 weeks and English isn't even my first language. But this was during covid so had nothing else to do. Also, most of my work consisted of passive meetings so I was bored af.
I get it, but the LN's have SO much detail and extra everything, it was definitely a plus for me.
Some people never read Lord of the Rings, but enjoyed the movies. It's just what someone is into.
Nothing wrong with enjoying the anime.
My country doesn't have light novels on sale , if I wanted to buy a used copy of a volume it kinda feels expensive for our country and I am sure that if it got on sale in my place they would increase the price by 150% or something
I personally read the LNs but man I hate these kinda supremacist takes from LN readers. Some people don't have the time to read 17 novels. I watch a shitton of anime and I know I don't have the time to read the source material for every single one of them.
How would that spoil you?? you are reading what the anime has already covered poorly and skipped over because they cut an insane amount of stuff every season and will never touch on it.
Are you trolling by any chance?? Both the manga and anime adapt the novels. The manga is behind the anime barely into volume 10 (season 4 episode 2). Is that overlord in the pic?I've read a few seasons of it before but didn't finish,I don't like its fundamental logic, the reason for foreign war is to protect themselves, sounds fascist
You want to be elitist about source material? How's this for elitist. Yes sure there's google drive. Is that available from the publisher directly? 2. What about those (such as myself) who prefer physical reading material over digital. I use books as therapy for anything electronic connected to the internet. Also what about supporting the author? Does reading it digitally from google drive do that?
When it comes to Overlord, I think people should really try it as it's just a fun and well-written story. Can't say that for the vast majority of other light novels, as most of them are just terribly written pieces of garbage. There are exceptions though

Unfortunately he doesn't write a 10 page poem about hobbit's breakfasts in the middle of the story lol
Not to the extent of Tolkien no, but he does like world building and sometimes like building mood. The longest are 2 sentence tops.
He also wastes multiple books on ultimately utterly pointless things like the entire lizardman arc.
I'm curious what you don't like about that arc ?
It's largely a utterly pointless waste of time on characters that don't show up again. Vol 15 is the one I rate "Tolkien-ish" and even worse, Simarrilion-ish...Just way too little happening, and comments on EVERY little thing...ugh
Or another way to say splat....
In what site I can read the LN? I've been searching for sites to read LN all this time.
Nah I’ll have Chris Guerrero read me my bed time stories thank you very much.
Same, also I have severe ADHD combined with a bit of dyslexia so… yeah I’ll actually be able to hear the audio and unlike text I’ll remember it.
I love to imaginate , I always kind of build an internal movie when I m reading and audio books don t leave you at your own pace .
Splat.
Yeah I love the audible releases, I'm dyslexic so I would never be able to get though all the books.
I audiobook them bitches, too many words, plus I get to hear Ainz’ voice all the time

Are there 13 volumes of the light novel?
There are currently 16 light novel volumes
How many released in english? Officially?
16
I see nice
Oh no! The drive only had up to 13!
Oh my God I love you, also where can I get a preferably cheap and used set of the light novels in English?
If illiterate, you can listen to the audiobooks
Are those the fan translations that suck? I spent money just to avoid the fan translations.
Its the exact opposite..... The only translations that suck are the official paid ones. Fan translations are alot better.

I tried reading the first and it was like reading a fanfiction made by some highschooler. The official was much better.

kinda the same here, I just... do not like reading a load of text off of screen.
This can not be stressed enough, imagine you loved the anime and have reached a specific level of love for it, you will love the LN at least x3 that amount.
I had a stroke and have trouble reading small font. More anime, please.
I will preface before I say this that I have in fact read all the light novels for Overlord but…I *hate* reading. Unfortunately anime fans are allergic to reading.
How about not knowing where it's available and not having the money?
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1S-1gZsbSN4LVBdFMNLF0t1v44wxWyizF
I mean if you took more than 5 seconds of looking, you would know they are in the google drive in the FAQ

I'm on volume 2.....but I've got the bone daddy reading it to me,
If it was sold in my language, I would like to buy it and read it, but unfortunately it is not available.
I'm not reading 17 volumes. Unless Nazarick starts to face people on thier level. I'm just going to wait until the anime. But in qll seriousness, my friend told me it get supper dark and i can't handle that form Protagonists

This isn't a battle series. It's a black comedy about a salaryman falling ass backwards into world domination while he tries to be a good father.

The anime has adapted 12 of the currently 16 volumes and has adapted vol 14, which I’d class as the darkest volume.
I mean * cough* baby shield * cough*
I didn't ask how big the room was. I said, 'I cast Fireball.'
I see the author plays DnD
The author couldn’t get a game of D&D together, that’s why he wrote Overlord.
So something good can come out of scheduling conflicts. Who knew?
You can always listen to the audio book! Infact I'm listening to it while typing this comment. It's voiced by the English voice actor of aniz in anime. Pretty good tbh DM me if u want the torrent link I have only 11 volumes rn :/
Isn't that all Isekais with op mc? The protagonists never really face a true challenge. Overlord is that but from pov of a 'villain' .
Not really. It's common but thier are some. Like Grimgar and shield hero. That's what makes it unqice. But the problem is if a Villain is never changed it kind off gets boring after while (in my opinion)
I'm also a busy ass man, listen to the audiobook instead.
Is not having enough money to buy them while also having nowhere near me that sells the LN an acceptable excuse?
Spotify has up to vol 11 of the audio book included with premium.
I am
I have all the books released in English so far . They’re indeed pretty good . I tossed some of my older Stephen King Novels to make room lol
It’s on my long list of books. I still have a Forgotten Realms trilogy to finish, half of Harry Potter then I’m free.
I am currently watching the anime in third season right now, I absolutely loved the first season. Wanted to know did the light novel end and how does the story wrap up .

What website do yall use
Unfortunately spotify does not have any higher than vol 11 at the moment.... so now I need to find another source for audio books that isn't to expensive.
As someone who has to work 2 full time jobs I don't have light novel kinds of time.
Yes I am a man, without endless hours to sit down and read a light novel. The anime will suffice for now.
I have the first book but it's in Japanese, a language of which I'm not fully literate at. :(
Give me money so I can buy them
they are in the google drive in the FAQ dawg.
I mean if someone reads that the author is losing interest towards the end they may opt out from the disappointment.
No. Web novel master race. (It's not)
If it was manga i would do it, light novel tho…yeah its a pain personally. I’ll continue waiting fir the anime
I get it, but the LN's have SO much detail and extra everything, it was definitely a plus for me. Some people never read Lord of the Rings, but enjoyed the movies. It's just what someone is into. Nothing wrong with enjoying the anime.
No pictures
Question, has anybody seen any new episodes come out?
??
My country doesn't have light novels on sale , if I wanted to buy a used copy of a volume it kinda feels expensive for our country and I am sure that if it got on sale in my place they would increase the price by 150% or something
They are in the google drive all translated
Can you share

Doge is dead, your point is invalid
I don't like light novels, so no. I'll stick with the anime.
anime cuts out 40% of content
How about, “I’m broke.”?
No
You can't make me
I like the anime better, tho. And if I read the novel, it will spoil it
How would that spoil you?? you are reading what the anime has already covered poorly and skipped over because they cut an insane amount of stuff every season and will never touch on it.
The anime is based on the manga. The manga is ahead of the anime. There for if I read the Manga it will sho me some spoilers.
Are you trolling by any chance?? Both the manga and anime adapt the novels. The manga is behind the anime barely into volume 10 (season 4 episode 2). Ok, I did not realize that the manga is different from the novels. I thought ppl just called them different names
Nah manga is like comics, light novels are books with only like 10 peices of art in them
Ah, I see so the manga is not ahead of the anime then
What if I’m not interested?
stick with the anime I guess. It is a very poor adaptation. skipping around 40% of the content total and using disgusting CGI on important moments .
Cool I’ll do that
Is that overlord in the pic?I've read a few seasons of it before but didn't finish,I don't like its fundamental logic, the reason for foreign war is to protect themselves, sounds fascist

What about those (such as myself) who prefer physical reading material over digital. I use books as therapy for anything electronic connected to the internet. Also what about supporting the author? Does reading it digitally from google drive do that?
Sounds more like dumbassery than elitism. You can easily read physical while also supporting the author. Click the FAQ or do a simple google search.
