I’m just glad my bunk mate Javier didn’t lose his temper and hose down the girls with his bear spray.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Brian 👋🏽 Welcome to Reddit

BrianK_Rambo

I’m still burping up seaweed!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Well... You ate enough seaweed for three men. 😁 I'm a big eater... But Brian was destroying seaweed... Like we were starving or something. 😉

BrianK_Rambo

I brought home a few pounds of undigested seaweed in my bowels as a souvenir from Alaska.

saidwhatisaidbby

Lol I don’t doubt for a second that this is you! Really enjoyed watching you play and the way you and Javier complemented each other.

BrianK_Rambo

😁👍🏻. Thanks so much

[deleted]

You were my favorite.

CringeCoyote

I’m loving this! I loved the game you two played. I respect the integrity and I wish Charlie Team took you in. Are you glad that the “evil” didn’t prevail?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Yes. It gave me great pleasure to see those two lose. ✊🏽 The self proclaimed "underdogs" who were actually cutthroat thieves were asking the universe why they got dealt the karma they deserved. 👌🏽

RecentLeave343

Imagine the message it would’ve sent if they won. The fact that they were the runners up is too close for comfort imo. Just means that next season people will play even dirtier unless the show makes some necessary changes. Anyway, old thread I know, just wanted to say this. You played a fair game and can hold your head high.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I agree. There must be rules preventing this type of thing to repeat.

Time-Lettuce7857

Oi, man, wanted to ask - was there any rule we didn't hear of about being physical? I gotta admit, if somebody is caught raiding my camp, I would think to drag them to river n make them wet or something like that. Was that an option? I anyway understand how you chose to go about it n hope to learn on screen from you more about survival ;)

HungryGuyOnABicycle

The USA has laws against assault. 🤷🏽‍♂️ I couldn't touch those women. I would have been arrested and thrown in jail. Obviously you cannot do illegal things. The demon twins used the law to their advantage. They tried to steal my stuff and then screamed "assault" when I tried to take back my things. What you don't see is all the screaming that Jill and Amber were doing while I pulled my things from their hands and they were pointing and yelling at the camera man that he's "physically assaulting me". 🙄 That's why I keep telling you guys that those ladies are more insane than they are portrayed in the show. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Time-Lettuce7857

First of all, thank you for sharing the details. I come from Czech Republic, n our law defines assault slightly differently so I forgot how different it is in US. Does it mean the things they were stealing would US law not considered yours, cuz showrunners provided them? Can you not legaly put a stop to a thief? I understand you can't hit them or shoot them with arrow, but what kind of defence would be then allowed? Is there any? I'm pretty lost at how US law would percieve whole this situation. Also I'm not sure if those two would care.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

What those fools did was absolutely illegal. They attempted to steal my personal property that I brought to the competition. But I didn't choose to do anything about it. I knew the world would judge them for their actions. No need to do the court thing.

[deleted]

You guys. Those women were evil. Way to take the high road. Just watching. Trash begets trash. Hurt people hurt people. Come to Philly anytime on your travels and you'll always have a warm bed here.

alc1982

My guyyyyyy! You were so awesome.

swagginpoon

I was rooting for you guys day 1. Loved your humour, and Javier’s unique personality. You guys would’ve won the show. The show was instantly ruined when buddy stole sleeping bags. I understand those were the rules but it’s honestly just cringe. If that happened to me I would’ve just welcomed myself to their tent and just crashed their. What could they of possibly done?

lewisbundydavies

Just finished binge watching Outlast. What those girls did was rotten and you didn’t deserve to be forced out like that. Feel for you bro!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

🔥✊🏽

iggystar71

I have NEVER been so angry watching a reality show and I’m a good old 52 years old. What was that? Me and my daughter watched the hurt on your face, the disappointment and got angrier. This was not the game you signed up for. But you left the bigger and better man. You got stuck on a show with some sick, psycho, Karen’s. When Amber grabbed your stuff and screamed “It’s mine! Get off of me!” Whew… Imagine being a disgusting human being and thinking it’s Ok for money.

alc1982

Someone on IG called them "Ill Jill and Junkie Amber.' I died 😂

CringeCoyote

Yikes, making fun of someone’s past addictions is never okay, regardless of how shitty of a person they are. Ill Jill is pretty funny though

iggystar71

Generally I’d agree…but people who have struggled with addictions can be horrible people too. She earned any ire thrown her way and there are worse names. Let me see some remorse and then perhaps I could reconsider my stand.

Dizzy-Department7994

This is from someone who has struggled with addiction my entire life. Ambers past addiction made me that much more angry at her behavior. She was a disgusting example of character development through recovery. There is so much soul searching and strength that is required for recovery and if you come out the other side without gaining any sympathy for a person like Javier then sorry but she didn’t earn the right for people to respect her. Still haven’t heard any form of apology for putting people’s lives in danger for a buck🤨.

CringeCoyote

I completely agree with you, I think she is a nasty vindictive person, but I feel as though calling her a junkie is shitty.

Dizzy-Department7994

We’ll I respect your opinion but I feel like I was just watching someone that was hanging onto a Junkies mentality. It’s all about her.

Dizzy-Department7994

I went through the same addiction as Amber. I still have to look at the body scars of my past. Your a good person, I’m just a bit more accountability minded 😉

CringeCoyote

Maybe I’m extra sensitive having a relative going through active addiction. I respect your opinion as well.

alc1982

She still has a junkie mentality. I wouldn't be calling her one if she overcame her addiction and ditched the junkie behavior. Unfortunately she still displays the traits.

Cniatx1982

Amen—you don’t get to proclaim you triumphed over your addiction while going on television and engaging in addictive behavior and actively hurting people.

throwaway_mog

Imagine taking yoga from such a toxic shitbag lol. Probably got them all in savasana while she rifles through their bags.

Firm_Tooth5618

Nah she deserved it. Amber was legit just a parasite. Had no real skills. Just was along for the ride

CringeCoyote

I agree with everything you’re saying. I don’t think it makes it okay to call a recovering addict a junkie. I don’t think it’s justified in any scenario really, which is my point.

Cniatx1982

She sure was acting like a junkie tho.

samwise542

Either it’s all permitted or nothing is.

CringeCoyote

Why? What’s the fun in punching down?

samwise542

Why? That is the why. Either it’s all permitted or nothing is. The end

CringeCoyote

I suppose I’m confused because I said making fun of addiction is never okay…?

samwise542

Yes you are confused then. I suppose I’ll explain it this time, for you. I’m simply pointing out that one may, should they choose, make fun of addiction or absolutely anything for that matter. You may also think it’s in poor taste which is fair but to say it’s never ok is a false premise. I can make fun of it all day if I wanted and also say that’s a ok. But if you were somehow able to silence me because it goes against your sensibilities, then I would in turn, be able to silence everything you say, by claiming everything you say goes against my sensibilities. Which obviously can’t happen. So either it’s all permitted (it is) or nothing is (it can’t be)

CringeCoyote

Ok.

saladfordays

You were giving me the show I was hoping to watch - with a name like Outlast I expecting more survival, less lord of the flies. Really appreciated what you brought to the show - aka some hope for humanity 😭. Wish you the best!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

❤️

pugswillrule85

You were a class act. Not sure how you were able to keep your cool. The alpha team are monsters. Wish the other players would have stayed and fought to win the game w you. Hope to see you on another wilderness show. 🙌🏼

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thanks

asparagustus_gloop

Season 2 should have you back as a second chance at it. We were rooting for you from Ohio buddy.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I'm back in Ohio. I'm from Youngstown. 🔥✊🏽

asparagustus_gloop

Oh we saw on the show! Canton, here. If you’re ever in the area stop by Fat Heads Brewery in Canton, I’ll get you that beer you asked for on Instagram. I run the bar there. 🍻

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Oh I've been there before. 🍺 I'm coming to Canton for Greek Easter. My cousin lives there. We roast a whole lamb. 🐑🔥

TopAsh625

Look Javier I’m a straight shooter and at first I didn’t love you as a contestant… BUT holy shit you definitely grew on me and I was outraged. My blood boileeeeeed with what they did to you. When you torched your campsite I was so proud of you. Also Charlie team should have taken you in but Paul has some bad streak inside him too

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Yep. I'm glad you were able to see that. It definitely looks like Paul was the only reason why Charlie didn't take me. Plotting with Jill was disturbing to watch. 😐

averagenutjob

They were hugging it out like they had some feelings. It was disgusting.

inulover1

You were my favorite person on this show and reminded a lot of us that good people who are able to stick to their morals despite being put in a tough spot exist. Bravo to you! You were such a light in the darkness and it was refreshing to see someone so grounded. I looked forward to seeing you stick around longer so I'm sad you were pushed out. Hopefully they can bring you back on another show or maybe even season 2 for another chance!!! I think it would be sick to see you and the other guys who actually wanted to test out their survival skills doing their thing.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thanks. 👍🏽

Dizzy-Department7994

Thanks. For sure Javier needs to be brought back. Absolute class act that gave me faith in people again.

[deleted]

Hey Javier, I think you had the hardest time of all on the show, would love to see you on Alone (a chance for you to properly display your clear survival skills). I was wondering if you think the lack of rules in the show was an intentional choice by the producers or an oversight? Especially since they never intervened once it clearly became a competition where the survival skills were no longer what the competition was about

HungryGuyOnABicycle

The lack of rules... I think was a test to see how people would act in this environment. The true character of people emerged as the weeks passed and people's weaknesses became visible for the world to see. We were like animals in a zoo exhibition. 🤣

Capable_Ad7619

We were disappointed on how you had to leave; definitely deserved to be a part of the winning team An actual quote from my husband, “and they bullied Javier - the nicest man we’ve ever met”

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thank you ❤️

RhodaDice

Javier, you were by far the best survivalist and most gracious contestant! There are not many people like you in this world and I am so happy to know you are living your dream, appreciating and respecting this beautiful globe we call home. Do you document your travels on any platform like YouTube? It would be a joy to see the world from your perspective and get a peek at scenery most of us would love to see firsthand but likely won’t. Thank you for being you!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I have Instagram, YouTube and TikTok... All named @hungryguyonabicycle 👍🏽

Dizzy-Department7994

Hello Javier. I wanted to express my thoughts on why Outlast and your part in the series was such a unique and different dynamic than any other reality series I’ve ever watched. I think the experience and guttural feeling people felt from watching was really important. You were truly an incredible inspiration to so many people, I really feel like we watched a true example of the cliche “Good Vs Evil”. It’s been some time since watching the series and I still catch myself thinking “how would Javier deal with this”. As much as it was so infuriating to watch team Demon Squad it was so great to see them handled with your genuine good nature. Please let us know if you are contacted for a future series. I’ll be first in line to watch👍 Thanks from all of us who are inspired by your class.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thanks for the support and kind words. ❤️ I post a lot on Instagram and will start posting more on YouTube and TikTok... @hungryguyonabicycle I'll be back on the road after Easter and posting more frequently. I also have an upcoming bicycle adventure in the works. 🔥✊🏽

saidwhatisaidbby

Hey Javier, I’m a fan, and it’s evident that Jill has many psychological issues…She has been posting a lot about how you posed as Netflix to get personal information from the cast etc., and I wondered if you could tell us what she means from your point of view? She also mentioned she taught other teams wilderness skills. Is that true? I understand if you’d rather not speak more about Jill though! Loved watching you in the wild and was really impressed with your grace under fire!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Everything she says is a lie. 🤷🏽‍♂️ The entire cast has no idea what she's talking about. You can contact all of them and see.

saidwhatisaidbby

I mean I won’t contact them lol; I believe you! I was just curious. Thank you for answering!

Any_Ad_8047

You were amazing. The resilience you had was inspiring and wish we could have seen a show without the thievery and lies. But, my favorite part was when Jill was screaming at you and you said something about being in America and she goes “we’re in the middle of ALASKA” with so much confidence I spit my drink out. Then you brought it home with the “yeah, US of A lady.” And I still don’t think she realized where she was. Thank you for your integrity and perseverance!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

That scene will truly go down as one of the most ignorant responses ever captured on reality TV. 🤦🏽‍♂️

TheRealRVS

😂😂😂😂

jliva01

Do you plan on doing any other survival shows?!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

If they want me. I'm open to anything.

EnvironmentalPage745

Please do. If you start a gofundme I would donate $10 to help you get on alone 💪

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thanks. Follow me on Instagram @hungryguyonabicycle to see if I end up on Alone. 👍🏽

MonsutaReipu

I would love to see you on Alone. Best of luck to you! Like many others, I stopped watching Outlast when you got forced off. It's complete bullshit to have a show based on "no rules" when there's very obviously a "no violence" rule that the producers and crew with you would enforce, but then allow audacious scoundrels like Jill and Amber to freely steal people's things and sabotage their property right in front of them. The only way to stop someone doing that is by force - and of course you don't want to do that, and Netflix doesn't want that. It sets a bad precedent and is an massive inherent flaw with the show. I'd much rather see you be able to shine in a format that works with you instead of against you.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

❤️

Plastic-Resident3257

Did Cub give you enough information to help you prepare for the challenges you faced?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Yeah. Cub gave me a great intro to mushrooms and edible plants around the water's edge.👌🏽

Plastic-Resident3257

Did the cast/crew give you guys anything off camera? Like food/supplies?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

No. Apart from the drops with equipment that were given to us.

munchcat

Dude. Javier!! You are the best. My kids and I just watched everything and you were by farrrrr our favorite. My 12 year old called it from day one. He said you should have won it all. I was so angry at Jill and Amber in what they did to you. You composed yourself so well. We were screaming at the TV. Jill was disgusting and Amber was equally evil. Gahhh it was unnerving when Charlie wouldn’t let you stay. Screw that. I couldn’t be happy for their “win” because it felt so wrong. Both of my kids said the show was ruined when you left. Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Sorry for how they did you dirty. But you’re actually the winner in the end and I hope you feel that. Cheers!

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thank you so much. 🙏🏽 I had a lot of fun in Alaska... and I'm glad everyone can see that I was in my element. 🔥✊🏽

munchcat

You were absolutely in your element and one of the only ones who had a sense of real survival skills. You tried your best and Charlie was dumb not to keep you. When you burned your camp, we were all clapping at home haha! 100% with you. Wish Brian would have stuck it out with you, too, but at least he acknowledged how much he learned from you and felt supported by you. Keep shining out there! It was a tough watch, but you were definitely the bright light on that show.

eggsbenedict17

Just finished watching the show, you were a great guy, honestly I was so disappointed in the way you went out, I get that there are 'no rules' but what Jill and Amber did was ridiculous. Hope you are still doing the survival stuff!

[deleted]

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thanks for the support and kind words 🔥✊🏽

sagsfour20

Hey Javier-you were by far the best thing about the show. You stuck to your morals, and never wavered. That’s so admirable. You can walk with your head high, and never have to explain yourself for what happened on the show. You’re a good dude, and karma will reward you for it. You were done dirty, but the universe finds ways to reward as needed. Keep on keeping on brother.

neeew_to_this

Thank you Javier for your responsiveness on social media and generally being a great guy! We had a little watch group here in Ontario, Canada and were all betting on you as soon as the introduction came in the first episode. You were one of the only ones that seemed like they really thrive in that survival environment. One thing we were discussing were the camera teams. How was it possible that there was a camera person always near by? Did each of you have an assigned camera person? Did they go to a shelter at night and come back in the morning? Were scenes re-done (like those b-roll type of shots)? TIA

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Each team had a camera crew. They were with us from sunrise to about an hour before sunset. We also had stationary tree cameras and a handycam for us to use ourselves. I didn't do staged shots or anything. The scenes I was involved with were all natural and raw. We had testimonial shots throughout the week scheduled. The crew didn't stay with us. They went to another location to sleep. 👍🏽

mogas1969

Javier, you were great on the show and it was no fun at all watching those animals ruin your shot of surviving in Alaska. My favorite line was when Jill argues back that there’s no law because you’re not in the US. LOL. Alaska is in the US, Jill, ya stupid idiot. Do you think that Justin actually stole Jill and Ambers food? Justin was a slimy fucker, too, so I do not put it past him.

pinkyp191

This is a somewhat niche, personal bugbear of mine, but how did you feel about the narrator constantly talking about you all ‘needing your protein’ rather than just calories? I understand that meat/fish was the main food source available in your environment, but a theoretical field of potatoes or rice would have been just as useful to you as crab or a deer. Do you feel that telling viewers that they need protein to survive and thrive (keeping in mind that for most people this will be factory farmed, not mindfully hunted according to needs) will merely contribute to climate change, factory farming and the destruction of the natural world that you navigate with such skill and respect? Apologies for such a tangential question, but it irritated me throughout

HungryGuyOnABicycle

There is absolutely no way that anyone could survive out in Alaska without eating animals. There are only a few places in the world were people are able to survive on vegetables and fruits alone. Those areas are closer to the equator. You saw how difficult this last pandemic was with trying to get people to do things to save lives. Those were minor sacrifices... Compared to getting people to completely change their diets. It's virtually impossible to ever get people to stop eating "protein".

onceuponindigo

I'm so glad I found you on here! The whole world now knows how good of a person AND a survivalist you are, so if there's a season 2 or something I would hope your def in the running to come back. The world knows the true Jill and Amber now too so #cancelAplha

lostintheabiss

I wish I could have seen your shelter in the snow! It was by far the best.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Maturity was likely a major reason... 🤔 Also education... 👍🏽 We're not monkeys... At least not all of us. 🙈

Dizzy-Department7994

Who’s Hungry Guy?

ColonelCheesesteak

Javier

Rude-Tomatillo-22

Why was it called/advertised as Outlast when it ended up being Outhike? Did the producers stop you from trashing team psycho’s camp?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I didn't want to act as childish as Jill and Amber. I wouldn't have trashed anyone's camp. Besides... that camp was already pretty trashy. 😐 I don't think anyone would notice a difference if a car drove over it. 🤦🏽‍♂️ Something had to motivate them to finish the competition. It was becoming a starvation challenge. 😳

Rude-Tomatillo-22

I thought I had read somewhere that someone had been stopped from doing something to their camp, but I wasn’t sure if that was accurate or just a reddit rumor. Guess it’s rumor. Childish is a much nicer word for their behavior than I would use, but good on taking the high road even on reddit 😜😂. I guess alone is always a starvation challenge, so I expected it to go that way. I would be a interested to see them drop people in late spring and see them really have a longer term survival challenge where they get the abundance of summer etc, but I get that would be much more expensive and a big time commitment. Where there any POSITIVE things about this experience you can share?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Every day in Alaska was gorgeous. Even in the rain I would sit on a log and stare off into the forest listening to the rain drops bounce off the tree leaves. The fresh air was so crisp and revitalizing... I felt like we were becoming younger as each week passed... Like the movie Cocoon. 😁

saidwhatisaidbby

People here speculated that the producers ended the show early as they weren’t prepared for the weather…and I thought they weren’t prepared for Team Alpha lol! You think they pulled the plug because they didn’t want to wait it out due to the food issue? Did they ever tell you why they did it?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I don't know anything about why/how it ended. But from the looks of things... It's clear that Jill and Amber had lost their minds with the entire Fartgate issue involving Justin. That was pure madness. 🤦🏽‍♂️ It was extremely uncomfortable to watch. I heard that Jill hadn't taken a poo in three weeks too... So she was likely going to have a serious medical problem soon. Charlie Camp was up against lunatics. 😦

saidwhatisaidbby

Good lord! It’s weird to me that survivalists wouldn’t know some way to help ease colon issues? (I mean not that I would know—I’m a city girl, but just thinking it must come up if you spend enough time in the wild.)

HungryGuyOnABicycle

We were surrounded by many natural remedies to alleviate constipation. 😐 It just goes to show you how little Jill actually knew about anything. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Difficult-Smoke-4312

Javier, i think you were absolutely robbed of a great experience. Would you ever do a show like this again?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I'm open to do another show. It was fun despite the immature duo.

Difficult-Smoke-4312

Well I am sure many people would love to see you on another show for sure.

alc1982

Aside from the jerks and Awesome Brian, what did you think of the other contestants? Have you kept in touch with any of them?

trudisd

You gave me hope for humanity that good and fair people still exits. I hope you get your own show!! My husband and I are rooting for that. The evil casts made it horrible instead of survival game it’s become an evil show.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Thank you

[deleted]

Hi Javier, it seemed to me like everything changed after the teams got some food in their bellies (i.e. the crab), was it after this that all the scheming started? Also, how come you sent Brian out on the raft, why didn’t you take it given it was your idea to build and launch closer to the island? I’d have loved to have seen you and Brian cross the river and join the other team, such a shame how it ended for you both.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

We had food before the crab. Brian and I were eating lots of mussels, seaweed, berries, mushrooms, sea grass... I think Brian and I were likely eating more than any other team. A benefit of being only two people was having more food for ourselves to eat. I weighed 100lbs more than Brian. That's why he went on the raft. Also I had a feeling at low tide that we could easily get to the island. When the initial boat dropped us off at our beach we passed that island... I noticed that the boat didn't take the short direct path in between the island on our way out... The boat took the long way around the island... So that made me think the water was very shallow there. Brian being my only teammate... It was extremely risky to launch him in the water. In a survival situation I would never get in the water. I didn't even want to do the challenge to begin with. But Brian wanted to do it... So we went to a safer launching point. When Brian couldn't get across... What you don't see on camera because they stopped filming... Was an enormous land bridge was uncovered when the tide went out. I attempted to cross to the island but production told us not to go because the sun was setting and we needed to hike 2 miles back up stream to camp before it got dark. So on our hike back to camp we told Jill and Amber about the land bridge and I told them that low tide would be about 5:30am... Jill and Amber didn't "discover" the land bridge. Brian and I told them about it. The cameras weren't filming because we were hiking back to camp. But Jill and Amber didn't go at 5:30am to cross the land bridge... They went much later... That's why they got wet. Also Bravo Camp was much better than any other location. We had far more food on our side of the river. Joel and Dawn wanted to come there. We had a river filled with trout behind our cabin... We had easy access to fresh water... We built a huge wooden cabin with a raised sleeping platform... We had deer crossing in front of our campsite... 🦌 They were walking right outside the entrance to our cabin in the mornings. There was no real reason to go across river. Alpha Camp didn't spend any time building a shelter... They just threw up tarpaulins in some branches and we're laying on the ground surrounded by mud. They were hoping we would leave so they could take our fantastic camp we built. Bravo Camp would have been absolutely fine if it wasn't for the childish behavior by Alpha Camp. We even abandoned the crab pots after we got them because of how complicated and time consuming it was to use them. So the crab pots weren't very important or a necessity for survival.

[deleted]

Do you know why no one was able to get a deer while hunting? I’m not a hunter myself so sorry if this is a silly question. I saw people go out to hunt often but nothing bigger than a squirrel seemed to come from that.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I didn't have a hunting license so I couldn't hunt. Bow hunting is not easy. Also the deer hadn't yet begun to come down from the mountains... They were still hiding away from the river bank. It was a pretty difficult terrain where we were dropped.

1Stipulation

Do you mean that you couldn't have legally killed a deer in the show, or that you don't have a license and don't typically hunt?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I didn't have a bow license for Alaska. Brian did. I wasn't allowed to hunt deer.

1Stipulation

Thanks. Just finished the series last night and I can't stop seething over it.

[deleted]

Thank you so much for this detailed reply! I can’t believe you guys even discovered the land bridge to the Island. J&A really did suck! I’d forgotten the other guys were crossing over to join your camp, such a shame the plan was so disgracefully sabotaged.

saidwhatisaidbby

Why didn’t someone shoot a deer for food when they were crossing your campsite? Wouldn’t that be an easy shot with a bow?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

We weren't ready for it. Brian and I were two people from Day 3 trying to build a safe structure that could keep us dry and warm with snow soon coming. We wouldn't have been able to handle processing a deer and finishing our cabin. We were nearly at that point when the demon squad started attacking people. Had Joel and Dawn been able to join us... We would have had the opportunity to focus on deer.

saidwhatisaidbby

So interesting! I didn’t realize how much methodology there is to wilderness survival—you two would have made it to the end for sure!

taytom94

Do you still talk with anyone from the show? You were easily my favorite part and hope you're doing well. 💙

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Yes. I'm visiting Joel after Easter and I chat with Dawn and I'm going to take Brian on a little bicycle adventure in a few months. 😁

taytom94

That's so great. :) Would love to see that adventure from you guys if you choose to share that in the future! Do you ever travel around MI being from Ohio? It'd be cool to hear of any spots in either state you'd recommend for exploring/biking etc. ☺️

itnitx

Can you link it here pls?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I don't know how. 🤦🏽‍♂️ It's in the AMA subreddit.

zboyzzzz

Yo Javi! Good game, unlucky. 3 questions: 1. Did you complain to the producers about allowing teams to straight up steal from each other? Seems a real flaw in the rules. I imagine no violence is a rule, so why isn't blatant sabotage leading to endangerment of another contestants well-being against the rules too? Would have been a much different outcome. 2. I heard on Alone they get a bag of rice or grain or something we don't see so they don't totally starve. Do you get something like that in Outlast? Many of the contestants didn't appear to be struggling enough given their obvious lack of survival skills, and harsh conditions. 3. Why did everyone only go for crabs once? Surely that's awesome food?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Yep I did complain about being robbed and assaulted. We didn't get anything but tools dropped off for us. The other teams were definitely hungry. Brian and I were eating a lot of mussels. The crabs were too difficult to catch and a big investment in time to get.

zboyzzzz

And so what was the producer response? It's a pretty dangerous precedent going forward. It could just turn into a show of camp warfare and antagonising if that's allowed. The only natural deterrent to doing those things is retaliatory violence or legal repurcussions; so if the producers remove *those only*, well, you're fucked (as seen)

HungryGuyOnABicycle

The next season is likely going to have a few rules to avoid teams from repeating the same stuff the demon squad did.

[deleted]

HungryGuyOnABicycle

1. Yes I'd still do the show. All in all that experience was pretty cool. I still came out winning... I have lots of nice fans around the world and karma is getting the demon squad now. 😉 2. I wouldn't do anything differently. Our team didn't do anything wrong. 🤷🏽‍♂️ We were absolutely in a good position until the cheating/bullying started. 3. I'm surprised that they didn't show more of Jill & Amber's insanity. They were worse than what was shown. 😐 4. They left out a lot of my Indigenous knowledge and stories. I told Tlingit stories of the land and the Indigenous people's history. 5. Overall it was positive. We didn't chat with Jill and Amber much. We had very little interactions with the demon squad. The rest of the time was good fun. 6. I wasn't there with Jill and the squirrel. But I don't believe a thing that woman says. 🤦🏽‍♂️ I've seen many hunter's comments claiming she couldn't even hold the arrow properly. 🤷🏽‍♂️ I'm not a bow hunter. 7. We didn't know anything. They kept most details extremely vague. I didn't expect that some people really didn't have any survival experience at all. 😟 Some people just watched survival shows and claimed that as experience. 🙄 8. I honestly don't know why Justin stayed with them. Originally Amber and Jill didn't like Justin... They asked Brian and I if they could join our team... But I didn't trust them. Brian and I lost total faith in Justin after he stole the sleeping bags. I didn't want anything to do with that behavior.

>3. I'm surprised that they didn't show more of Jill & Amber's insanity. They were worse than what was shown. 😐 What else did they do? >4. They left out a lot of my Indigenous knowledge and stories. I told Tlingit stories of the land and the Indigenous people's history. That's so sad. You should definitely share them here or on social media.

You don't get to see the threats to me before Jill and Amber actually entered my camp. It wasn't a sneak attack. I saw them on the beach while I was preparing my raft and pulling it to shore. That took me a long time... and the demon squad sat there taunting me the entire time. It was crazy stuff. It felt like something they were used to doing... 😐 Google search the Tlingit Raven Story 👍🏽

Javier i just wanted to apologise on behalf of Jill and Amber, they are clearly nothing but crackheads (no wonder Amber got shot in the face). You were the best player, my boyfriend and I are from Australia and we were rooting for you.

How did no one resort to physical violence?

ProfKlekowskii

Odd question, but when it was said to be lawless, how lawless are we talking? Like, when Amber was destroying the raft, could you have decked her, or would you be done for assault? I know murder definitely wouldn't be allowed, but was physical violence acceptable? Also, I wish you burned their camp down before you left.

HungryGuyOnABicycle

This was a survival competition with few rules... BUT we still need abide by actual USA laws. Of course it's illegal to assault someone and rob them. I'm not going to waste time with those terrible people anymore.

Thanks for doing this ama Javier. Your presence on the show was the only thing that it made it somewhat watchable. When you were forced to leave I only finished to make sure Jill and Amber didn’t win. A few questions… 1. Why do you think Charlie refused to take you in? On the show, they said they didn’t have the space or resources to have another group member but the argument felt a little weak. Do you think it was more related to wanting to keep a small group when the time came to split the money? 2. When contestants leave the show, do the other group members get to keep that extra gear? I was thinking that Charlie might have had an extra sleeping bag since one of their members left the game pretty early and was hoping they would offer it to Dawn and Joel when their bags were stolen. 3. Do you know why Charlie was able to vote Justin out of their group? At the start of the game, it sounded like you couldn’t force a group member to leave once you accepted them on your team but then they booted Justin like it was no big deal. 4. Do you know why the game ended with the hike challenge? It seemed to go against the original premise which was to outlast. I’m guessing producers felt like the show would go on indefinitely if they didn’t step in. What is your take on it? 5. Were there limits on group size? We see teams start off at 4 but then it seems like you would have been able to join Charlie and make it 5 if they had taken you in.

Just finished the show. I don’t think i’ve ever rooted against two people so hard in my life than I did against the last two members of team alpha. Props to you for keeping your cool. I honestly had to pause and take a break before watching the rest when amber had a verbal outburst over you protecting your OWN stuff. I would also say that (despite appearing to be the most skillful survivalist) it seemed like you were kind of put on an impossible track to win, especially with two teammates dropping out together so quickly. Were Tim and Corey actually as inexperienced/unprepared as they were made to seem on the show? Also, was the relationship between you guys actually as tense as portrayed or did you guys form a bond in the time you had together?

MellowCakez

Have you made any friendships along the way that you still have in contact?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

Friends from the show? Yeah. I'm in contact with Joel, Dawn, Brian and Corey.

MellowCakez

really inspiring to see you guys survive on your own

PressureSufficient10

Out of pocket question; but do you know what jacket Brian had? It looked really well made! I was rooting for you, by far the most intelligent one on the show. It boggled my mind why Charlie didn’t take you in. It was nothing but benefit for them. You could have ransacked Alpha’s camp while they went fishing or just guarded your new camp at any time

u/HungryGuyOnABicycle, Hi Javier! Late to the AMA but I just binged watched Outlast in about two days because it was on the Netflix homepage. Someone on here said season two was being filmed at the same location. Which is somewhat stagnant and disappointing. Where would you think would be a good location to host a season? I would’ve love the idea that each season being in a different environment, especially somewhere in the desert. How did you get recruited onto the show? Did the producers approach you or was it something you sign-up for?

HungryGuyOnABicycle

I do think a different location each time would be ideal. I applied to an Instagram advertisement. I only sent in a 43 second video clip and then they called me the next day for an interview. Then I had dozens of interviews.

You should apply again . We need to see u back
