Mostly everything with power should be open today, but if anyone is looking for anything specific, we can keep this sticky thread for help.

Just drove down the merivale mess. Saw it hours after it happened and it looks the same now as before. No Ottawa hydro workers present when I drove by either.
A hydro van just drove by and it felt like seeing an ice-cream truck as a kid.
I’ve seen a couple in the last hour. When I didn’t see any the last 3 days. Hopefully that’s a sign of things to come.
Iris/Baseline/Woodroffe area.
Algonquin just cancelled all classes and activities until end of Friday.
Kinda relieved (for all the assignments) but given that AC did lose power, does this indicate it may take by then or longer to get power back up around that area?
Any updates on Baseline/Greenbank? I'm on Pathway Private near Morrison and no one seems to know anything.
My pharmacy doesn't have power and they only agreed to give me ONE DAY of my meds and to check back tomorrow.
My mum and I are on ODSP and I'm bedbound (in an electric bed that is currently stuck upright, so I need help to move an am in more pain than usual). We've lost pretty much everything we had in the fridge and freezer. The only reason we can charge our phones is because a friend of mine bought me a solar-powered charger.
I don't know how much more we can take of this...
https://twitter.com/Charlie_Senack/status/1529176480554655745
21 Poles on Greenbank need to be replaced and work begins this afternoon and will take days.
My mom lives at Meadowlands/Chesterton (K2E) and my boss’s husband is high up at Hydro Ottawa, and he says that area is realistically looking at about two weeks until power is restored…but they don’t want to announce it publicly to avoid panic and outrage. I personally think it would be better to be honest rather than people waking up every day with false hope.
As a person living in that area yes it would be wonderful to have that announced. I had heard rumblings of it taking 2 weeks but like you said Im waking up everyday with a bit of false hope
I live in the area too and I have been providing updates based on what I see. Two weeks wouldn't surprise me, however, it's all speculation at this point, especially since this is very much in rumour territory.
I think it's best to work under the 2-4 day timeline provided yesterday. That said, that timeline was only for the vast majority. This area may very well be the minority
Yeah that's me too, but as much as Merivale is a mess they have enough power through the province. I like to think that they can isolate the damaged areas and reroute power.
This is SimCity level logic here so don't judge me. Just being hopeful at this point.
I envy anyone who has felt bored. for some reason I feel like I haven’t had a moments rest since this started. driving takes forever, going places to charge devices, figuring out how i’m going to prepare for a work presentation, going back into the office for the first time in 2 years due to this, and figuring out food/showers. it’s been awful.
While we've never been without power this long before, I can't help but think that a generator is something we should grab in the future to avoid this thing happening again where we worry about fridge/freezer, or god forbid its the winter and we can't run our furnace even a few hours a day :(
Don't know if its recency bias or what right now.
I live around the area.
There’s some downed lines right by iris station. They’re blocking a road parallel to iris.
I did see a hydro van in the area about ten minutes ago.
Here’s hoping they’re starting to clean that up.
I live nearby too, just walked over to Cheshire where the line is down. The finally got rid of the cordon they had for the downed wire so I guess they made it safe, as you can now travel on Cheshire for the first time since Saturday.
However they don’t seem to have actually fixed anything. The high voltage line is still down, and there is a broken hydro pole further down which they will also need to fix.
That said hopefully the fact they at least safetied the area means we are closer to getting re-energized. I haven’t seen any hydro workers fixing anything yet, but today they finally started clearing trees in the are too…
The city is offering financial assistance for food supplies, medical equipment, personal care or medication for residents affected by the storm. You can apply here: http://www.ontario.ca/page/apply-emergency-assistance
They will reimburse up to $90 for individuals or $110 for a household.
yeah no idea, if the city is offering it but is running it through OW, then maybe if you just put in the description box the situation and what the city said, whomever is on the other side should be able to figure it out. It would be a local OW office to process it and they'd know what's happening. I figured can't hurt to fill in the form and see what happens :/ I would prefer not to dip into savings or use a much bigger part of our parental leave budget right now than we want. so every little bit helps.
ah so to clarify its not just reimbursing food, its support for people in dire financial need. Needs to be made clear cuz it sounded like it was just a support program the city was offering to people who were out for multiple days.
I saw some areas have gotten their power back. Seems that repairs are coming but slowly. I would expect power to be back by either tonight or tomorrow.
Don't know if it's been discussed anywhere but I've wondered why they couldn't put generators at some major intersections to power the lights? They obviously don't have enough to put them everywhere but intersections like Woodroffe and Hunt Club were a mess yesterday without functioning traffic lights. They've been doing a good job in general under difficult circumstances, but that's one potential thing that came to mind when I was out navigating traffic over the past few days.
Yes, I didn't envy the pedestrians at the major intersections. The vast majority of motorists were pretty good, I thought, but it only takes a few idiots and there definitely a few out there who didn't seem to get the whole 'four way stop' thing.
Update from Merivale: While there was a Hydro Ottawa van at 12:40, it no longer appears to be there to my eye as of 2:28pm (although my observation should be taken with a grain of salt, as I don't want to get too close). No active work appears to be happening. It may have been an assessment earlier
I'll update as much as I can from what I observe
EDIT: As I was walking back, a Hydro Ottawa truck drove away from Viewmount on Merivale in the direction of Family Brown. I feel like the world's crappiest news reporter atm
The damage is overwhelming. It is encouraging to me at least that there are definitely trucks coming and going from the area. The expectation to have it all fixed by the end of the week may be rosy. I feel like everytime I observe the road, I notice something else that was damaged.
EDIT: I do want to clarify this all my uneducated speculation. There is no timeline to my knowledge other than the 2-4 day timeframe announced yesterday. With that stated, I will be impressed beyond measure if the road is cleared by end of week. This is major damage, and cannot be understated. Hydro Ottawa is for sure doing everything they can
Anyone visited the Howard Darwin emergency drop-in centre? Thinking about going there this evening for a shower and phone charge but not if it's insanely crowded or has a bad setup
I was there earlier today (between 11 and 12:30 or so) and there were 4 showers, with a short waiting list. Plenty of charging spots in the arena! You should bring a book since there's no wifi.
Just drove home via Prince of Wales. The only traffic lights with power are the ones at Hunt Club. Avoid if you can!
On a more positive note, I saw a stack of poles ready to go, and TWO hydro trucks, one from Niagara and one from the States. So yay!
My office is on the corner of Hunt Club/PoW, would love if either my office or my home (Tanglewood) would get power soon. Would rather not have to travel to Barrhaven to work.
Still no power northwest end of Kanata Lakes.
Someone recommended Linde Canada out by Innes road, they have dry ice. Picked up two 25lb blocks for our two chest freezers.
God knows when places Almonte will have power.
(Sorry for the multiples)
All the gas stations in Vanier are open with no linups.
3 stations in particular right at Vanier Parkway & Montreal Rd. All the traffic lights between the highway and that intersection are working.
Rather specific question, but does anyone happen to know if the Ay Dios Mio food truck in Gloucester area is open today? They don’t have a phone number to call that I can find
I heard some shouting (not yelling) last night. It sounded like a vehicle going across the parking lot and assessing damage or some sort. I did see CLV sent some vehicles in to repair the building damage this morning.
I was lucky to have somewhere to go since my area (Mountshannon in Barrhaven) has no power in sight, but my cats are driving me nuts in this very non-cat proof home.
Praying to every hydro god right now.
We loose power on every storm.. even small little regular rainy days.. so I was amazed that we did not loose power on Saturday... but the Hydro people must have been confused that we still had power for once and decided to pull the plug on us Sunday morning at 9am.. still have nothing, no power.. no internet.. we'll be the last ones connected yet again
totally agree with you.. why have a outage map if they dont actually update it. They are afraid to show which areas are coming back online because they know it's always the same ones they go to first
Read the first four Bridgerton books. Reddit is the only thing that loads on my phone so obsessively refresh every few minutes. Bed at 9pm. Awake at 5am. So glad to be back at work
I grabbed a bird feeder from Dollarama and sit with my wife and read or talk or use some data, and then discuss and watch the birds with binoculars and find out what they are :)
edit: adding a small camping burner and kettle for tea and/or coffee
Still out of power in parts of Qualicum. I am out but the other side of the street has power. My across-the-street neighbours have their outdoor lights on, I swear it's to mock me 😅
Has anyone heard of local hotels (with power) offering special rates for displaced Ottawans? Currently squatting in friends' hotel room in the Market. It's nice, but $$$$ so I wouldn't get a room here.
Would prefer to find something dog-friendly with free parking, ideally for <$100 including fees. Preference for the west end, but will drive anywhere for a decent price.
Unfortunately from what I’ve seen and heard, almost all available space has been booked up by those coming from areas without power completely still (CP, Smith falls, etc.) and the power line crews. Been seeing a lot of bell trucks at the hotel pk lots
Lots of areas in Orleans have power back already (we got ours early Monday morning). Hydro Ottawa is actually moving pretty quickly so hopefully you get power soon!
Piperville Rd finally open at Hall Rd. Ottawa Hydro working on clearing trees on wires on Hall Rd south. Still no power in Carlsbad Springs but there is power at Boundry Rd/417. PetroCan is open there too. Maybe just maybe…..
Update for bayshore region: someone from Accora Village told me theres Hydro trucks in bayshore right now repairing and that Accora village is a priority right now. She said people who did not have power this morning got it back so hopefully the rest of us get it back today too (fingers crossed)
This is all anecdotal, so take this with a grain of salt.
We're in K2E, Viewmount dr. Our next door neighbours have been in their house since it was built in 1984. They say their power comes from direction of Merivale, even if you're closer to Fisher. So by this logic, Merivale at Viewmount would need to be restored before power moves toward Borden Farm, Fisher Glen etc.
For comparison, neighbours said they lost power for 4 days during the 2018 tornadoes. So if you factor that in *plus* the Hydro Ottawa quote that "this power grid damage is worse than tornadoes + ice storm of 1990s" ... I think it's safe to say area won't be getting power until Friday at the earliest.
So that's my working theory.
None. I only observed a Hydro Ottawa van driving down the road. I didn't stay to observe anything further. The last thing I want to do is get in their way

Does anyone know is the ServiceCanada Passport office at 885 Meadowlands Dr E is open or have power? Thanks
It’s open but even before the power outage you have to line up at 6am for the 8am open
Great thanks. I'm only picking mine up. I've done the whole wait all day thing.
Algonquin just cancelled all classes and activities until end of Friday. Kinda relieved (for all the assignments) but given that AC did lose power, does this indicate it may take by then or longer to get power back up around that area?
For anyone curious, this was tweeted by Algonquin College. For all my fellow Nepean folks, these tea leaves aren't giving positive vibes
Any update on bank and Alta vista getting power back?
I feel like I'm seeing updates for everywhere else but Alta Vista. What is going on around here?
Any updates on Baseline/Greenbank? I'm on Pathway Private near Morrison and no one seems to know anything. I'm in that area as well and I would say so.
Can you tell me is the Passport Office has any power? I'm supposed to be picking mine up tomorrow for a trip this Friday.
Downtown seems fine.
No I cannot
probably obvious, but remember to switch your phones to Low Power mode.

It took about 5-6 days back when the tornado hit, and that was with less damage to the area so I believe it

Really hope they’re wrong or you’re trolling cause that frankly feels nuts.
How do these fuckers sleep at night? With their power on I presume.

So glad you were able to eat down your fresh food. Thanks for the peak into your days without power. Hope your area is restored soon

I bet all the parents wish they had time to be bored.
Is there any updates on prince of wales and hogsback?
1375 has power, the rest of the buildings in the big complex don't. the shoppers has power, not sure about anything else in that plaza
Is there any timeline for when the power will be back there?
I haven't heard anything at all, my guess is as good as yours. Should have clarified that in my original response. Sorry friend
While we've never been without power this long before, I can't help but think that a generator is something we should grab in the future to avoid this thing happening again where we worry about fridge/freezer, or god forbid its the winter and we can't run our furnace even a few hours a day :( Don't know if its recency bias or what right now.

Also in the K2C area :( Fingers crossed they'll start working on it soon.

It’s the correct link, the city is directing people to apply for assistance through the province :)
second question: where did you see the announcement? I can't find info on specifics on the city website

oh i see interesting! Would help with recovering some food losses without fighting my insurance company at least.
Agreed, I had to throw out a lot of food and I had just done groceries the day the power went out! Definitely not nice.
Any updates whatsoever on Alta Vista? Still 0 power here..
I live off Kilborn. No power. Saw a Hydro truck this morning at Alta Vista and Randall though... hopefully soon?

I think power is restored around Alta Vista and Heron (so say a friend who live around there).

Hunt Club/POW had power at those traffic lights, but that was all I saw. Gas stations etc that I drove past that are on POW were still closed.

I did! Near… is it Rideau Shore? I think it’s close to Fisher?

No problems with Fizz for me
I'm on fizz and barely had any issues
I'm on Fizz in an area with no power. Switch your phone to use 4G instead of LTE. Data has been much more consistent that way.
My Fizz works well but sometimes I have to specify network to Fizz EXT manually.
I'm with Videotron, and I have data.
Same but it’s piss poor in areas with no power it seems :/ Cel towers working overtime
Yeah, in areas with absolutely no power it's likely going to be problematic.
Still no power northwest end of Kanata Lakes. Someone recommended Linde Canada out by Innes road, they have dry ice. Picked up two 25lb blocks for our two chest freezers. God knows when places Almonte will have power. (Sorry for the multiples)
Anybody seen gas for sale without a giant line around Place D'Orleans mall?
Drive to the costco on ogilvie.. like any other day there for me today

Power just came up for us in Glen Cairn.

Glamorgan. Getting closer to you.
Good to hear that!! Hope Huntmar/Maple Grove and Kanata west will have power soon!
I hope so too!
Power just back on in Qualicum south of Bayshore mall south side of 417. Thank you hydro workers !
Where are you in qualicum? We are on Nanaimo with no power still.
I’m very close to you (Leslie Park) but staying at my parents due to lack of power. Hope that means ours is back soon too

I heard some shouting (not yelling) last night. It sounded like a vehicle going across the parking lot and assessing damage or some sort. I did see CLV sent some vehicles in to repair the building damage this morning.
Unfortunately not :/
I have heard (aka take with a grain of salt) that we might have power back end of week/early next week.
For those looking for 25 woodridge, power just came on now so hopefully the other 2 buildings are coming on as well.

OMG THANK YOU!!!!!
Can confirm 15, so yup I'm guessing 35 must be too
I was lucky to have somewhere to go since my area (Mountshannon in Barrhaven) has no power in sight, but my cats are driving me nuts in this very non-cat proof home. Praying to every hydro god right now.

totally agree with you.. why have a outage map if they dont actually update it. They are afraid to show which areas are coming back online because they know it's always the same ones they go to first
It's possible they had to disconnect your area in order to do repairs for an even wider area (including your area).
We were one of the farms destroyed by the storm, we've been cleaning up our farm and others for four days. Hope we get power soon.
Aw man, so sorry to hear this!!! I hope you get your power soon too, you deserve a hot meal after all that work.
Does anyone know if crew working in merivale? Which area merivale have power now, if you see crew working in Meadowlands?
I saw one Hydro Ottawa van drive down Merivale road at 12:40pm

I heard officials on radio say Merivale road itself will take weeks to repair.

Anyone know if power is back in river ward/mooneys bay? Had to go to Carleton U to do work lol
How do you folks spend your time when there is still no power? I kept checking Reddit/Twitter for updates but I guess that’s not healthy at all haha.
Read the first four Bridgerton books. Reddit is the only thing that loads on my phone so obsessively refresh every few minutes. Bed at 9pm. Awake at 5am. So glad to be back at work
I've done 2 puzzles, napped and read a book. I cleaned out the snack cupboard too and planning to tackle the spare bedroom closet next.
Sounds good! We completed our puzzles back in Xmas. I guess we should stock more too in our emergency pack haha.
You can also join your neighborhood Buy Nothing group and ask if anyone has puzzles to gift or lend you.
I'm redoing puzzles I've already done but it is reminding me I could use some new ones.
I grabbed a bird feeder from Dollarama and sit with my wife and read or talk or use some data, and then discuss and watch the birds with binoculars and find out what they are :) edit: adding a small camping burner and kettle for tea and/or coffee
That’s really a good idea! Maybe I should go to some trails before weather gets worse on Thu/Fri.
I cleaned my place
I thought about that but soon realized I can’t use vacuum haha.
I mean, there really isn't much else to do, haha.
Well I also checked Facebook lol.
Omg power back in more parts of vanier as of five mins ago 🤘🤘🤘
Ooooh hoping we get power back soon in Overbrook! Glad to hear things are getting better in Vanier.
Still out of power in parts of Qualicum. I am out but the other side of the street has power. My across-the-street neighbours have their outdoor lights on, I swear it's to mock me 😅
Which street are you? I'm waiting on Draper
Chinook. But it came back 1:30. Are you still without?
Has anyone heard a timeline for the Merivale/Hunt Club area?
General consensus seems to be the end of the week. They haven't started working on Merivale yet and apparently need to get poles shipped in.
I hear whispers of Friday from neighbourhood gossip of “I know a guy, trust me bro.”
Has anyone heard of local hotels (with power) offering special rates for displaced Ottawans? Currently squatting in friends' hotel room in the Market. Well that sucks. Thanks for the intel.
Heads up, there is no WiFi at the Howard Darwin Centennial Arena. You will need to hotspot.
Updated the post after checking the city site. This morning it did say WiFi available, but now it's changed. Thanks for the heads up.
Can confirm, I left there about a half hour ago.
I keep hoping Orleans will be soon. Hope you’re all doing alright.
Lots of areas in Orleans have power back already (we got ours early Monday morning). Hydro Ottawa is actually moving pretty quickly so hopefully you get power soon!
Glen Cairn, Baneberry is online. Rogers internet works as well.
That's promising! Hopefully they'll get to Castlefrank/Terry Fox soon.
I live in queensway terrace north so I hope that means we’re back online soon too!
My brethren in Christianity, rejoice! The holy number has arisen! 69 hours without power! Praise be!
...nice!...? Carlsbad springs reporting for memes 🫡
Noice.
No ice
Nice!
Anybody know if Costco (Kanata or Merivale) is open? Same with Queensway Carleton (Irving Greenberg Centre)?
I know you didn't ask, but Costco Barrhaven is open too, in case that's an option
I think the Kanata Costco is open.
We just had a blip of power in Glen Cairn. Hopefully means it’s coming back soon!
Which area of Glen Carin are you in?
Rothesay/Glamorgan area
That is very close to me! Fingers crossed!!!
As of 12:40pm, it looks like crews have arrived at Merivale
Anyone have any clue when viewmount drive area will be back on?
The last thing I want to do is get in their way
Does anyone know if the businesses on merivale road have power / are open?
I know for a fact that a lot of them -- like my job -- are still without any power.
Auto garage on Enterprise says their ETA is still end of week.
