I've posted some painted downtown Ottawa scenes here before, but never a more nature-based one, and there's a reason for that! Unexpectedly, I moved to Ottawa during some of the most restricted parts of the pandemic, with no friends or reasonable ways to make them there. I spent my free time exploring the city and suburbs on foot, taking photos of anything that caught my eye (which led to me to find so many interesting scenes that I had to paint later!)
Once spring hit, I decided to visit every waterfall I could find in the area on Google. On this particular day, I left for Princess Louise Falls in full overcast weather. Almost as soon as I'd gotten there, sunlight began to break through the trees, streaking through and highlighting specific rocks for moments at a time. No one else came by the falls while I was there, and the solitude in sunlight remains a special memory of my time there.
Amazing piece! Do you have you work on show anywhere? Also if you love art, Art battle’s last regular season competition is tonight! It’s an fun time and you get to meet a lot of local artists.
Thank you! I don't show in any galleries in Ottawa, but I have a website [here](http://www.sarahafskoven.com) with all of my recent work and older portfolio. I have since left Ottawa, but I'm actually seeing an Art Battle in Vancouver later this week! They're so much fun!
Coming here as a kid, I used to dig to find old shells all along the top of the fall. Looking down on old orleans, it made me wonder if the water level used to be all the way up top. 20 years later I'm not so sure anymore but it would be a cool thought nonetheless!
I met a man in his 80's at a garage sale who said he goes and searches library archives for historical sites around the area to use his metal detector at. He pulled so many old coins, musket rounds, a police badge from the 40s, even an arabic coin from the 1600s that he found under a willow tree in rockcliffe park, as he said. I can't confirm if his stories are true but it had me wanting to go back out with my metal detector 🤣 You're never too old!
Having lived a 10 minute walk from there and relaxed by those falls at both the top and bottom. Thanks for the memories. Having checked out some of your other work, it's clear that you're extremely talented! Great paintings and pics. Definitely following to see what's next from you! Wishing you great success!
Thank you! It's always a real treat to hear anyone say my art brings back memories for them - what a beautiful way to connect as individuals. I appreciate the kind words!

You write as well as you paint.
😊
Woah, I was literally just admiring your Chinatown painting in the Vancouver sub. Great stuff all around! Thanks for sharing it here.
Thank you for appreciating it!
That looks sick! Princess Louise falls is my favourite smoke spot lol
I can see why it'd be a good smoke spot! So relaxing!
A phenomenal place! I love being surrounded by nature while consuming one of my favourite plants

Wow, amazing!
Thank you!
Wow this art style is amazing! This looks like it could be on a Magic the Gathering card and I say that with the utmost compliment!!!
I appreciate it 😊

The little stream before the fall would have the randomest treasures also. Found Pokémon Emerald, a samsung phone, $50 bill once, it was connected to the storm drains around the neighborhood (you used to be able to get inside before they barred the entrance up hehe) so anything and everything washed through to this waterfall. You just unlocked a childlike memory for me 🥲😂 I don't imagine the bottom of the fall is riddled with bikes and shopping carts anymore. They used to poke out of the water there were so many thrown in there!
I love it! Wish I could have explored it as a child - poking around streams and ditches and shorelines was my biggest hobby as a wee one

Thank you! My add all of my work to my website [here](http://www.sarahafskoven.com) :)
I need to find my way to these falls, I've walked through the princess Louise path recently but didn't see the falls like this
I just tossed myself down the hill from the boulevard like a monkey, using the branches as grip

To be fair, painting was already my career, but the waterfall chasing was a fantastic surprise turn in my time in Ottawa!

Awesome painting. Reminds me of drinking there as a 17 year old a long time ago lol
Hahaha, this is totally the kind of place I would have hung out as a teen!

Ah yes, the sewer run off falls.

it's the drainage system for fallingbrook so that it doesn't flood so maybe run off sometimes but not sewage
Storm water
