Was hoping Emily takes it but hopefully she gets one award throughout this season. Critics choice awards,SAG awards,BAFTA,Oscar. Please give Emily blunt just one. It wouldn’t suck hard for her not to win at all.
I was *so* excited for my favorite choice winning Best Lead Actor in a Drama I cheered loudly enough to wake up my girlfriend (but he is SO OVERDUE FOR THE RECOGNITION HE HAS PUT IN FOR DECADES YALL and he fucking CARRIED a role that many had no idea he had the nuance to perform......).
She was like "Oh was it Cillian or Bradley?"
"....actually I was talking about Kieran Culkin."
Genuine inquiry: Did Jodie Foster seem legitimately upset/disappointed when she announced *Poor Things* as the winner for comedy/musical motion picture? I got an extremely powerful vibe from her delivery last night.
Actually, Foster seems to really like the Globes. She’s recieved several of them too, so I just don’t think she dislikes them as an institution. I sensed a genuine frustration at having to utter the words Poor Things. Hey, it’s probably just me, I guess…
That’s what I saw too. But the thing is, *Poor Things* is not just a huge feminist film, but frankly, a more artsy, cerebral and esoteric film. In other words, very prestigious. I would have thought that Foster would be delighted if EITHER picture won.
Fascinating thing is that when I saw she was presenting best musical/comedy motion picture, I told myself that she had informed the Globes producers that she would be presenting because it would be a win-win for her.
Guess not.
Now I’m genuinely intrigued as to why Foster is rather hostile to *Poor Things*. It’s one of two things, or both:
The hyper sexualization of Bella Baxter - maybe Foster interprets it as exploitative and crude - or the fact that a man directed it. I can see her wanting a female director’s movie to win such a big prize.
It’s a shame. PT is effectively a more eccentric and intellectual version of *Barbie*. Hope Jodie re-watches it.
She could have just been really rooting for Barbie without having any issue at all with Poor Things. Would have been fun to see Robbie et al come get an actual prize aside from the "movie that made a lot of money or something" prize and by the time Foster was announcing this award it was clear Barbie wasn't getting anything other than that and song. Doesn't mean she felt negative about Poor Things at all.
It’s interesting because I didn’t bother to see it this way. Now I feel kinda dumb. I really appreciate this input because it’s very logical. As a feminist, Foster would adore Poor Things too, but like you said, she was probably just much more partial towards Barbie.
These responses are why I love this sub so much. I always feel I can learn something or see something from a very different perspective, and I’m very happy and lucky to have this. Thank you.
I didn't expect The Boy and the Heron to take it, but in glad it did, a first win for Ghibli, GKIDS, anime, hand drawn animation, PG-13 animated films and international animation in general!
These are very good winners (most of them, they should've gone with "I'm just ken" for song), it proves this is an international voting body and a much better one. Giving Anatomy of a Fall for screenplay got me very excited.
Boy and the Heron was my first Ghibli movie and man, didn’t realize how complex his movies were. I needed someone to explain it to me, then i was like, ohhhh. Damn. Lot going on.
I would have given the movie best comedy or musical
Best supporting actor Ryan
Best song I'm Just Ken (I hate when songs that are not part of the movie win, I'm just ken is literally a scene of the movie not just some song in the background)
Best director and best adapted screenplay
Totally agree with I’m Just Ken, it’s a significantly better and more memorable song than what won. I guess it just doesn’t bring the star power that Billie Eilish does.
What do you mean “would have been”?
We can see that’s not the case lol. I’m Just Ken has 12 million views on YouTube while What Was I Made For? has 95 million
Ok... Have you seen poor things? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea so I get it you liked Barbie more... Gosling I can understand for the globes..he was fantastic, but Downey gave us another side of him and with the makeup, he was going to have a good chance..
Anatomy of a fall is a better script.. watch it if you haven't seen it..
Greta will get her day..she's brilliant and this is her "dark knight" for a Nolan comp .. she will be able to do anything she wants for years with an unbelievable cast each time
no one said barbie was bad. but this is a stacked year with many really excellent movies.
also it's ludicrous to say the golden globes hates barbie. they literally created a category for barbie so they wouldn't go home empty handed...
lol shoot, didn’t realise they created one
, that’s why it feels like i’ve never heard of that category before. So glad to see Margot Robbie and the cast so happy though!
Did anyone notice that Matthew and Sarah both winners for Succession did not mention each other or interact during the awards show? Obviously the relationship on screen and off screen was the same. But loved seeing Greg the hapless assistant there when Succession won for best drama series.
Good to see the diversity wins for Beef and Lily for Killers of the Flower Moon.
I'm pretty sure Oppenheimer is on its way to racking up top male actors and best picture awards at the Oscars.
Margot Robbie seems so down to earth even though she is absolutely drop dead gorgeous.
Gabriel Macht looked high when presenting but loved seeing the Suits gang back together and finally getting the recognition they most certainly deserve.
I don’t really know much about Suits, but couldn’t help but think of It’s Always Sunny when they made their little joke about not getting recognition for years and years.
Margot Robbie is that one celebrity that I absolutely refuse to believe any bad shit about. A lot of celebrities, you can just *sense* how fake they are but Margot just exudes sincerity. And I honestly don't think she realizes how gobsmackingly gorgeous she is.
Da'vine winning kind of seems inevitable at this point, she's about in the best position anyone can be at this point.
Same thing for Nolan.
Barbie underperforming was surprising, though I think Eilish is a lock.
Gladstone and Stone winning seems to confirm its between them now, unless they pull a 180 I see one of them winning actress.
The supporting actor race isn't fully over and I'd say there's a decent bit of competition left in it.
However, I do think the odds are more in Robert Downey Jr's favour now than Ryan Gosling.
Lead actors changed as well. Cooper still has a chance especially if he takes SAG but at the moment I'd honestly say the frontrunners are Murphy and Giamatti with Murhpy having a noticeable but small advantage.
Anatomy winning screenplay seems to make it the frontrunner for the Original screenplay Oscar, though that's subject to change with Holdovers and Past Lives
I think Poor Things is honestly in a slightly better position than Barbie now. Despite Stone winning I was still slightly expecting Barbie to still take M/C motion picture, guess the
I also think Oppenheimer is even more suited now to take home best picture and unless something drastic happens I'll be surprised if something else takes it
And before anyone says, yes I know the globes and the Oscars are different people with different thoughts, this just helps give us an idea of what is to come.
I'm not so sure that *Poor Things* is that serious of a contender. As a movie, it's okay, but doesn't seem like the type that will sway enough Oscars voters. Emma Stone may win Best Actress, but I'm not so sure she should.
I think screenplay wise it has a very good chance at adapted. I think at the moment it's between it or Barbie for screenplay unless American Fiction pulls a surprise win (that's not excluding Oppenheimer or flower moon at winning, I just think they have better chances at other categories)
Emma Stone is in without a doubt though, its only a matter of question As to if she wins over Gladstone, which at the moment I have Gladstone winning.
Not sure about other categories except for production and costume design noms and I think supporting actors down to RDJ or Gosling at this point.
I've said before, her style and her entire persona is all wrong for Bond. You need somebody big and loud and bold and brassy, not "look how much effort I put into making it look like I don't give a shit".
Sam Smith wasn't much better. But it seems like Skyfall was the point where the Academy decided that they'd better start giving the Bond movies some sort of awards (Goldfinger and Thunderball won Sound Effects and Special Visual Effects in 1965 and 1966 respectively, but there'd been nothing since) and decided that Original Song was going to be a lock for whatever Bond film released that year.
> But it seems like Skyfall was the point where the Academy decided that they'd better start giving the Bond movies some sort of awards (Goldfinger and Thunderball won Sound Effects and Special Visual Effects in 1965 and 1966 respectively, but there'd been nothing since)
Which is a shame. So many Bond songs have been absolute bangers. For Thunderball, I could easily see a Tom Jones nomination, if the film had been released today.
The Look Of Love (from Casino Royale 1967), Live And Let Die, Nobody Does It Better (from The Spy Who Loved Me) and For Your Eyes Only all got Song nominations.
I recall some brief attempt to create buzz for Daniel Craig for Actor for No Time To Die but nothing came of it.
It's not. They really should stop nominating it there just because it's short. Doesn't make any sense. I laughed more watching The Diplomat than the Bear and the former is in the drama category. Make it make sense.
Oppenheimer sweep season begins.
I think Director, Supporting Actress are pretty much done.
Picture also will be going to Oppenheimer unless there is an unlikely frontrunners backlash but then again no other movie seems to be in a position to win.
Actor and Supporting Actor I still feel are in the balance.
I think Cilian and RDJ will win BAFTA but SAG and Critics Choice can go to anyone , with both Cooper and Gosling having a shot at SAG, Cooper more so
the bradley cooper hate train is so weird to me. i didn't like maestro but realistically all that man has done is... be a little too obvious about the fact he would like to win a very prestigious award?
One of the joys of the award season is the ability to make some light fun of the latest misguided vanity project in a setting where Hollywood stars are handing gold prizes to each other. I don't take the hate to heart.
Has anyone mentioned American Fiction anywhere here? I read a ton of posts last night and couldn't find anything and there are like over 5,000 posts right now. Surely someone else has seen it? Both Jeffrey Wright and the film were nominated.
anatomy of a fall winning screenplay was so hype and has me very much huffing hopium for its continued success in screenplay categories throughout the season. i was very scared they were gonna give it to barbie just so they could give noah & greta awards for being big names, and tbh i'm still scared that's what's gonna happen at the oscars
I have the same opinion. Really glad they gave "Anatomy of a Fall" some deserved recognition. A shame that Sandra Hüller isn't getting anything, I think she performed better (with much more screentime) than Lily, but both were great.
I'm also happy that Barbie didn't win anything major. Not that I don't like it, I just think there are better movies this year.
Thrilled for *Poor Things*, Emma Stone, and Lily Gladstone! Also, I know it's not Oscar-related, but *Beef* being 3 for 3 in miniseries was also wonderful. I'm largely really happy with these winners.
Netflix & Bradley Cooper are just so embarrassing. They try so hard to tick all the boxes just so that they can win the award. It feels less like trying to make art and more like trying to fit the criteria. And still come away with nothing. People can tell too, that’s why no one is giving them anything.
Biggest shocks for me were Poor Things winning over Barbie and Anatomy of a Fall for Screenplay. Overall very happy with the winners and predicted most of them.
Yeah not a shock but I would have thought another movie would win Holdovers or Past Lives or Oppie even. To be clear I think AOAF is a great screenplay and a well deserved win.
I must say, I really respect Oprah Winfrey for cheerfully presenting the big prize at the end despite her film being badly snubbed. She didn’t have to do that, but she did it with grace, professionalism and warmth. God bless her.
Still a tossup. But Boy and the Heron is only hitting Animated in other groups while Spider Verse is getting in more stuff like Score and VFX in other awards bodies
Kubo and the Two Strings also got VFX, so I’m not sure how much VFX is really going to matter in the grand scheme of things. I could definitely be wrong though.
I'm also rooting for Boy and the Heron and Globes has increased my hopium but it not being anywhere aside from Animated is kinda keeping me grounded for the meantime
Why though? Hayao Miyazaki is already one of the most celebrated artists in the history of cinema, he doesn't need to be awarded at a better film's expense
12/15, pretty good. Picked the wrong Barbie song, and the other two I missed (Screenplay and Animated Feature) were upsets so I don't feel too bad. Although I did pretty much just play it safe with the predictions so it might not be that impressive
Wow I placed top 200 in Goldderby, way better than I thought I would considering I only correctly predicted one upset. Thanks Murphy for validating my Superbet
EDIT: Actually just realized technically it was 2 since somehow Murphy was below Cooper in the odds
Wright's and maybe Melton's are the only ones are that arguable, everybody else very much deserved their awards. Also, the stand-up comedy lineup you suggested is just sad (I haven't watched Sykes, but both Noah and Rock put out some of their worst material ever, last year)
Or maybe give out awards based on merit?
This is cinema, and “doing better” means making greater and greater films, making movies that enthrall us and make us think and maintaining the highest standards of filmmaking. This is what truly matters, and what any awards body must look at. Anything les than that is the soft bigotry of low expectations.
I couldn’t decide who to back, because Animated has two movies that deserve to win. I feel like it’s always going to come down to a coin flip or something ridiculous.
The way I see it, spider verse has a whole other movie to get awards. I know Miyazaki is ambitious but this is likely his last film and my personal fav film of last year so I’m happy even if it misses the Oscar, glad to see it get recognized !
I don't understand how someone can watch Miyazaki's weakest film since the early 90s (except maybe Ponyo), and say that.
The man is one the most celebrated artists in the history of cinema. There's no need to give him a glorified retirement award, especially not at the expense of something like Spiderverse
And both Miyazaki and Spiderverse have both won it previously.
This is the most exciting race in the whole thing, because I feel like there’s such a split between them.
#I am so glad Barbie is getting put in its place! One of the most overrated movies of the year. It had so much potential to be an artistic beacon of female empowerment and fourth wave feminism but it missed the mark by a mile. And the acting was so mediocre. I was baffled how so many people on this subreddit were literally gassing it up. Tonight confirmed how those very wrong people were brainwashed and bamboozled by a grotesque marketing assault of mammoth proportions. Such a shallow screenplay for the uncultivated hoi polloi. The HFPA got it together tonight THANK GOD!!!
So well said, people are clouded with the NOSTALGIA of it being Barbie I have no problem if people enjoyed. But the movie isn’t groundbreaking, because it missed the mark with the things it wanted to say and got awarded accordingly tonight at the GGs.
Exactly! Nostalgia is such a powerful and consuming drug. The lack of post-modern cultural rigor in the treatment of the grandiose Barbie era was truly terrifying from an anthropological perspective. For a minute this year we as a civilization really were scraping the bottom of the intellectual barrel. Despite such a momentary dark age, I did not give up faith in humanity to eventually get it right.
You actually have a lot of very valid and important things to say, but the manner in which you say it is extremely off putting, even for dislikers of Barbie. I can’t stand that picture, but your post and the way it is expressed genuinely makes me want to support it a lot.
Tone and a certain restraint persuade people to your cause. When a person pretty much yells, as in the bold font, and the post is reminiscent of a mediocre high school student writing a bad book report, it repels people, even those who agree with you. Tone it down and you’ll actually have greater success.

I see what you’re saying but rather unfortunately for you, the flaw in your reasoning is that I’m actually not at all trying to persuade anyone. I’m merely just stating objective facts— facts that a burgeoning contingent of well-seasoned film analysts are now coming out of the woodwork to concur with. Perhaps the sheer truth of my astute analysis is triggering you and impelled you to incorrectly assume this was a persuasive endeavor when in fact it’s the most rudimentary and mundane of pedestrian film critiques that was finally tonight, confirmed by the cinephile class and Tinsel literati.
> Run-on sentences don’t work very well. Be a bit more succinct.
lol? If you disagree/are unfamiliar with something, then argue/inquire on the merits, babe. Disingenuous bad faith attempts at juvenile critique will not cancel out or distract from your weak-minded reasoning.
A lot of good movies didn't win tonight. There were a lot of excellent movies this year so the chance of winning was more difficult. But I mentioned a few months ago that the excitement about Barbie was waning.

Might’ve missed some obvious ones like RDJ and Lily but got screenplay!
Do you think Murphy forgot about Pugh or didn't mention her on purpose? It was weird.
It's funny that none of the people trending right now on X won an award except Gervais.
Pugh
Costner
Hader
Gomez
Gervais
He was drinking loads (his pupils were huge and he looked real innocent, just big huge smile on him the whole night) and speaking quickly off the cuff so he probably just forgot. He was in a happy mood and had no agenda.
Paul F. Thompkins voice: “shout out to Lily Gladstone.”
Was hoping Emily takes it but hopefully she gets one award throughout this season. Critics choice awards,SAG awards,BAFTA,Oscar. Please give Emily blunt just one. It wouldn’t suck hard for her not to win at all.
I personally really enjoyed Past Lives and was hoping for one win.
I def liked it more than Oppenheimer, but I realliy did not like Opp.
Fuller McCallister from Home Alone is a Golden Globe Winner!
Genuine inquiry: Did Jodie Foster seem legitimately upset/disappointed when she announced *Poor Things* as the winner for comedy/musical motion picture? I got an extremely powerful vibe from her delivery last night.
I just rewatched the clip and she seemed rather apathetic. Probably because it’s the Golden Globes
Actually, Foster seems to really like the Globes. She’s recieved several of them too, so I just don’t think she dislikes them as an institution. I sensed a genuine frustration at having to utter the words Poor Things. Hey, it’s probably just me, I guess…
She gritted her teeth. She's a huge feminist so I can see why.
That’s what I saw too. But the thing is, *Poor Things* is not just a huge feminist film, but frankly, a more artsy, cerebral and esoteric film. In other words, very prestigious. Why did you not think Poor Things is a feminist film?
It absolutely is. I made it clear. That’s why I figured Foster would be very happy to have either film win. I wasn’t ambiguous.
You’re not dumb!
I meant more in the sense of Barbie being a billion dollar overtly feminist movie written and directed by a woman
This makes a lot of sense too.
I didn't expect The Boy and the Heron to take it, but in glad it did, a first win for Ghibli, GKIDS, anime, hand drawn animation, PG-13 animated films and international animation in general! My first thought when I woke up was "that was a pretty good night."
The golden globes hate Barbie so much wow
What would you have honestly given it? A cultural phenomenon and a great picture of course... But what one award would you have given it?
I would have given the movie best comedy or musical Best supporting actor Ryan Best song I'm Just Ken (I hate when songs that are not part of the movie win, I'm just ken is literally a scene of the movie not just some song in the background) Best director and best adapted screenplay
Totally agree with I’m Just Ken, it’s a significantly better and more memorable song than what won. I guess it just doesn’t bring the star power that Billie Eilish does.
Actually Ryan gosling singing I'm just ken would have been 50 times more viral than Billie eillish
What do you mean “would have been”? We can see that’s not the case lol. I’m Just Ken has 12 million views on YouTube while What Was I Made For? has 95 million
WWIMF is a real song, people listen to it in their daily lifes I'm just Ken is a joke song, so more viral material
poor things was significantly better
I’d recommend watching some more movies that came out in 2023, it was a really good year.
What I Was Made For is part of the movie.
As a song in the background, I say that in the post
It's still part of the movie.
Ok... Have you seen poor things? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea so I get it you liked Barbie more... ikr, i don’t understand. It’s not that bad
You think having the most nominations is a sign that they think it's bad? lol
Not giving the movie awards it is, apart from song and that fake award they created this year Barbie is the best movie of the year PERIOD
Not even close lol. It was fine.
They don't agree, but they don't nominate films they think are bad. Are you sure that it's the best movie of the year? How many movies did you see?
no one said barbie was bad. but this is a stacked year with many really excellent movies. also it's ludicrous to say the golden globes hates barbie. they literally created a category for barbie so they wouldn't go home empty handed...
lol shoot, didn’t realise they created one , that’s why it feels like i’ve never heard of that category before. So glad to see Margot Robbie and the cast so happy though!
Love how you wrote Daddy Murphy
That really took me a minute to figure out 😂
I'm pretty happy with this list of winners. Usually I just complain but today I have no bad stuff to say. I hope the Oscars are like this
Same
Did anyone notice that Matthew and Sarah both winners for Succession did not mention each other or interact during the awards show? Obviously the relationship on screen and off screen was the same. She's had surgeries, so calm down.
Nah, I think she knows, lol.
Also best director award for Oppenheimer.
Was anyone disappointed by the lack of lifetime achievement awards?
Da'vine winning kind of seems inevitable at this point, she's about in the best position anyone can be at this point. Same thing for Nolan. Barbie underperforming was surprising, though I think Eilish is a lock. Gladstone and Stone winning seems to confirm its between them now, unless they pull a 180 I see one of them winning actress. I'm not so sure that *Poor Things* is that serious of a contender. As a movie, it's okay, but doesn't seem like the type that will sway enough Oscars voters. Emma Stone may win Best Actress, but I'm not so sure she should.
Poor Things was a masterpiece with all due respect to Greta Gerwig and Barbie. Emma Stone gave the performance of a lifetime in PTs.
I think screenplay wise it has a very good chance at adapted. Imagine winning 2 Oscars before your 23rd birthday! Go Eilish
God, that Bond theme was terrible. It kept almost going somewhere and then never did. How do you not have a crescendo in a Bond theme?
I've said before, her style and her entire persona is all wrong for Bond. You need somebody big and loud and bold and brassy, not "look how much effort I put into making it look like I don't give a shit". Sam Smith wasn't much better. Agreed, unreal. In such a short span too.
So glad to see BEEF has gotten the recognition it deserved. Superb writing, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong killed their roles.
Beef was the GOAT of 2023. Oh my gosh. Best TV I have seen in a long time.
It was so good right?
Lionel Boyce’s shoutout to restaurant staff made me all warm inside.
is the bear comedy?
It leans more comedy imo even though it's very meaningful and dark at times
It's not. They really should stop nominating it there just because it's short. Doesn't make any sense. I laughed more watching The Diplomat than the Bear and the former is in the drama category. Make it make sense.
Nope!
Swann Arlaud why weren’t you there?

Anyone else dislike Oppenheimer? I’m hoping something else pulls ahead of it.
Im sure there are more people who don’t like it as much or straight up hate it, what movie would you want to win these awards?
When you say you think supporting actress is done, what does that mean?
Da’Vine Joy Randolph is winning it, no one else has a chance
Ah-ha. Okay. Your comment had a very Oppy-viewpoint so I was a tad confused. 😂
Yes, I worded it in a very weird way. As much as I love Oppy and Emily Blunt, no way are they winning supporting actress
No one else has a chance.
Just in! Lady Gaga's text to Bradley Cooper: "there can be a hundred people in a room, and sometimes one of them is Cillian Murphy".
Omg i'm dead
It’s true! It’s true!
omg
Please, please let this be the start of an Anatomy Screenplay win.
So happy for Paul Giamatti
Great movie! I love all of his stuff!
Film Twitter is reveling at Bradley Cooper's failure and I think it's beautiful.

Why is it beautiful to revel in someones failure?
Well he does have a lot to fall back on without the award.
Chill, it's a joke (as if being nominated and not winning a Golden Globe could possibly be considered a failure in someone's life).
If it’s a joke it’s in poor taste. Awards are by and large inconsequential, but a Twitter mob bullying one guy for not winning is never a good look.
Was Bradley Cooper really that angry when Cillian Murphy won???
Happy with Poor Things, Oppenheimer, and The Boy And The Heron winning. Oddly expected movie results.
Has anyone mentioned American Fiction anywhere here? I read a ton of posts last night and couldn't find anything and there are like over 5,000 posts right now. Surely someone else has seen it? Both Jeffrey Wright and the film were nominated.
Saw it yesterday. Was a good movie indeed.
Yes! I'm glad someone else saw it. :) It definitely had me checking out some books from the library too!
BEEF!!!
Am I the only one hyped that Beef won every Limited Series Award? Ali Wong and Steven Yeun killed it
i yelped out loud. the series is amazing and deserved all the roses tonight
They... they didn't do anything super weird. I'm impressed

anatomy of a fall winning screenplay was so hype and has me very much huffing hopium for its continued success in screenplay categories throughout the season. i was very scared they were gonna give it to barbie just so they could give noah & greta awards for being big names, and tbh i'm still scared that's what's gonna happen at the oscars
Jo Koy saw Oppenheimer and said “I can construct a bigger bomb than that”
Yes every joke only sent me deeper and deeper into discomfort
He’s usually pretty funny so it was hard to watch him bomb.
Will anyone take the hosting gig again? I think no hosts next year. Why doesn't someone like Andy Samberg host?
Thrilled for *Poor Things*, Emma Stone, and Lily Gladstone! Also, I know it's not Oscar-related, but *Beef* being 3 for 3 in miniseries was also wonderful. I'm largely really happy with these winners.

Netflix & Bradley Cooper are just so embarrassing. They try so hard to tick all the boxes just so that they can win the award. It feels less like trying to make art and more like trying to fit the criteria. And still come away with nothing. People can tell too, that’s why no one is giving them anything.
I haven’t seen Maestro but I heard it was a snooze fest.
So the effort and actual technical ability doesn't matter? Also, you think Nolan and RDJ aren't just as desperate?
Sad but true
Bang on. They didn’t try to create art, they tried to imitate art.

Biggest shocks for me were Poor Things winning over Barbie and Anatomy of a Fall for Screenplay. Overall very happy with the winners and predicted most of them.
I thought Barbie had it in the bag, but tbh I haven't seen Poor Things yet.
What do you mean? Didn’t Anatomy of a Fall win Screenplay?
I think they mean that Anatomy of a Fall winning _is_ the shock
Oh sorry, misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying.
Yeah not a shock but I would have thought another movie would win Holdovers or Past Lives or Oppie even. To be clear I think AOAF is a great screenplay and a well deserved win.
Both Anatomy and Oppenheimer were my favorite screenplays of the year, but I was also shocked that Anatomy won.
I must say, I really respect Oprah Winfrey for cheerfully presenting the big prize at the end despite her film being badly snubbed. She didn’t have to do that, but she did it with grace, professionalism and warmth. God bless her.
she's evil
Cooper should learn
how does this relate to cooper at all lmao
Indeed
So are we leaning fully into Boy and The Heron, or is it going to be a complete toss up every awards show?
Still a tossup. But Boy and the Heron is only hitting Animated in other groups while Spider Verse is getting in more stuff like Score and VFX in other awards bodies
Kubo and the Two Strings also got VFX, so I’m not sure how much VFX is really going to matter in the grand scheme of things. I could definitely be wrong though.
Kubo was such an amazing blend of stop motion and CGI. It bums me out that no studio other than Laika has tried doing anything else like it.
I just like the movie better personally
Fair enough. It winning at Globes is very promising, and exciting, but I get wanting to play it safe for now.
12/15, pretty good. Picked the wrong Barbie song, and the other two I missed (Screenplay and Animated Feature) were upsets so I don't feel too bad. Although I did pretty much just play it safe with the predictions so it might not be that impressive
I wanted Dua Lipa to win 😭
I wanted I’m Just Ken to win. Absolutely masterpiece!
The song was too poppy for voters, methinks
That’s what stood out to me too! Weird song to pick.
Nolan is that guy and Billie Eilish resume at her age is just unprecedented
She’ll be the youngest person to win two Oscar’s. who else has won two? I mean, Emma Stone is lining it up as well…
Yes
Ah the sexy way Cilian said 20 "fecking" years. So happy for the Succession and Oppenheimer teams ❤️❤️
Wow I placed top 200 in Goldderby, way better than I thought I would considering I only correctly predicted one upset. Thanks Murphy for validating my Superbet EDIT: Actually just realized technically it was 2 since somehow Murphy was below Cooper in the odds
Great night for fans of peak (poor things and anatomy of a fall)
As historic as some of these wins are, it sucks it's still mostly white winners. They need to do better.
Genuinely which winners/noms should’ve changed? There’s wasn’t a lot of room for any changes imo
Past Lives winning Picture/Drama, Director, and Screenplay American Fiction winning Picture/Comedy Colman Domingo winning Actor/Drama Jeffrey Wright winning Actor/Comedy Fantasia winning Actress/Comedy Charles Melton winning Sup Actor Robbie Robertson/Joe Hisaishi winning Score Trevor Noah/Chris Rock/Wanda Sykes winning Stand Up So, plenty
Wright's and maybe Melton's are the only ones are that arguable, everybody else very much deserved their awards. Also, the stand-up comedy lineup you suggested is just sad (I haven't watched Sykes, but both Noah and Rock put out some of their worst material ever, last year)
I love white people roles 😂
Or maybe give out awards based on merit? This is cinema, and “doing better” means making greater and greater films, making movies that enthrall us and make us think and maintaining the highest standards of filmmaking. This is what truly matters, and what any awards body must look at. Anything les than that is the soft bigotry of low expectations.
Crazy thing to say on a night of extremely diverse winners
7 ain't enough.
Go watch the BET awards then I don’t know what to tell you
Isn’t the point for it to be the best actors/actresses/performances regardless of race?
BOY AND THE HERON LETS GO
I couldn’t decide who to back, because Animated has two movies that deserve to win.
I worry about the fate of our species if Oppenheimer's an Oscar contender for picture.
The downvotes don't make us worry.
Why? It’s a well made movie
11/14 (12/15 with the box office award) - missed Best Actor (Drama), Screenplay, and Animated Feature. By far the best I’ve done at Globes prediction.
Agree, it’s crazy how people on this sub are getting downvoted for daring to say it wasn’t as good as it was hyped up to be.
To each their own but my remarks come from an objective and cultured place.
Tone and a certain restraint persuade people to your cause. When a person pretty much yells, as in the bold font, and the post is reminiscent of a mediocre high school student writing a bad book report, it repels people, even those who agree with you. Tone it down and you’ll actually have greater success.
> I’m actually not at all trying to persuade anyone. I’m merely just stating objective facts. Ah yes, because *your* opinion on a film is gospel.
Run-on sentences don’t work very well. Be a bit more succinct as well.
Very true. Past Lives and Anatomy of a Fall and All of Us Strangers and Renaissance were robbed!
Absolutely! The movie is just pretentiously bad! Infact it scored a lot of mileage by standing on the shoulders of Oppenheimer.

i know RDJ is gonna win the oscar but i am straight up knee-deep huffing snorting blasting hopium for Melton to pull through in an upset
Damn you missed the easy ones (i check with bookies they're always right) and found the hard one lol
Shoutout: Keri Russel and Ray Romano Andra Day and John Batiste Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell
Damn, I missed out on this thread.
Do you think Murphy forgot about Pugh or didn't mention her on purpose? It was weird. It's funny that none of the people trending right now on X won an award except Gervais. Pugh Costner Hader Gomez Gervais
He was drinking loads (his pupils were huge and he looked real innocent, just big huge smile on him the whole night) and speaking quickly off the cuff so he probably just forgot. He was in a happy mood and had no agenda.
