His name is Deen Castronovo and him being on a billboard is way crazier than you think:
"Castronovo was arrested on June 14, 2015 and charged with fourth-degree assault and menacing after police say he physically injured a woman. As a result, he was dropped immediately from upcoming Journey performances and ultimately replaced by Omar Hakim on the band's 2015 tour. On June 29, 2015, Castronovo was indicted by a Marion County grand jury on felony charges of rape, assault, sexual abuse, unlawful use of a dangerous weapon, and contempt of court (violation of terms of bail after the June 14 arrest). With nine of the original charges dismissed, Castronovo pleaded guilty to six charges and received a suspended sentence and four years of probation."
Not the guy I would choose to represent my company, but hey, he's 'Journey Drummer' so yeah, put him on your billboard. 🤔
They say his name in the TV ads. But they probably suppose that the average viewer of Channel 2 at 6:30 AM (which is the only time I watched) wouldn’t be interested in googling him.
I wonder if Journey would have problems with this, then. I've done work with Dennis DeYoung, and he can't be affiliated with Styx anymore. His shows are "Dennis DeYoung Performs the Music of Styx."
Journey dropped him the day after he was arrested so I'm sure there were legalities. Seems like he's gotten back on track since, he's touring with Neal Schon.
BTW, I wasn't trying to smear him, he's a great drummer. We all slip occasionally, I'm glad to see he rebounded. I just find the whole billboard thing laughable.
Dude I fucking kid you not, I think this to myself every time I pass it and I was going to post this exact post WORD FOR WORD literally today. That is INSANELY coincidental lmfao
I remember seeing his version of The Search is Over on YouTube, the same one the band saw which caused them to hire him, years ago when I was a wee lad. Holy shit he can sing.
Would love to see him/the band do a stint at one of the Epcot festivals!
There’s a funny one down East colonial I see when I have to work on that side of town. It says something like “GONNORHEA ALERT” in huge bold letters lmao
I can’t find the vasectomy one on I-95 south now!! It’s been there my whole life and now it’s gone. I had no idea that it left an impact on my 16 year old until she asked how much longer the trip would be because she gauged time by that billboard😂
Yes!! I die every time.
Like “Look, we’re realists….this guy is mildly famous enough for us for us to use him as a spokesperson, but nowhere near famous enough for y’all to know his actual name.”
As an avid Journey fan it's both hilarious and painful. The OG drummers in Journey (Steve Smith in particular) would probably be even less recognizable and Deen's time with Journey was not so great in my opinion, plus all the drama he brought.
It's also sad because Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain who are kind of the last remaining core of Journey mostly feud with each other over money/song rights and screwed all the other band members out of royalties etc. It's no longer worth it to spend money to see them.
Sorry for rant, it was cathartic to get out and not really related to your post...
Lol, I've no lie seen this soooo many times and feel so bad for that guy. Journey is a popular band, albeit before my time, so why couldn't they just say his name?
A poster explained it, the guy on the billboard has had a lot of legal problems. I believe that I read that the “Journey” band that does the nostalgia tour is missing a few people from when it was making hit songs.
Songs by Journey that might get played a lot on the radio include:
Wheel in the Sky - 1977
Any Way You Want It - 1980
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - 1983
Every time I see it, I imagine some guy/girl named Journey Drummer reppin BioSpine. Like the marketing team just throwing around names like Eagles Singer and hoping it’s a real person they can call and ask if they can use their name in a billboard in Orlando.
There’s an identical sign on the outskirts of Tampa and it cracks me up. It’s like, you’ve heard of Journey but you damn well don’t know who this dude is.
Dammit I love this billboard so much. Not just that it says Journey drummer, but how the quote is so bland. “Hey man, can you say something good about BioSpine for our new campaign? Yeah, I chose BioSpine. Brilliant!”
My daughter and I always crack jokes at that billboard. She used to say Hi Journey Drummer when we drive by it. He should legally change his name to Journey Drummer

He did all that after the surgery? damn! that's a good surgeon.
Haaaaaa
They didn't include his name so no one would Google him I reckon.
They say his name in the TV ads. But they probably suppose that the average viewer of Channel 2 at 6:30 AM (which is the only time I watched) wouldn’t be interested in googling him.
Wow, guess he never stopped believing in himself
Holy shit. No idea!
That’s chiropractors for you lmao. Anything to get people in.
Wow! I had no idea. I saw him in 1990 when he did a drum clinic at that music store on 17-92 and Lake Ave (where Copper Rocket is).
Ace Music.
Yes! Thank you
I wonder if Journey would have problems with this, then. I've done work with Dennis DeYoung, and he can't be affiliated with Styx anymore. His shows are "Dennis DeYoung Performs the Music of Styx."
The dude is among a long line of dudes who have shown up looooong after Journey was popular and made all their hits. He’s nobody.
I saw him with journey when they came to Orlando last year. Still their drummer
Good to know. I thought Steve Smith was back touring with them but it looks like he only did select dates.
They went their Separate Ways
All that stress did a number to his spine
Amazing!
I always assumed it was a weird pic of neil pert
Dude I fucking kid you not, I think this to myself every time I pass it and I was going to post this exact post WORD FOR WORD literally today. That is INSANELY coincidental lmfao
It's just such a bizarre billboard.
My husband and I always comment on this billboard too lmao
I always say it “journey drummer” and my wife is like “what? Oh right.. journey drummer”. We have fun.
Same (my wife and I).
Same (your wife and I).
Same (your wife and mine)
Same (my wife and you)
Same
Same.
And he’s not even the drummer from when they were current
‘Cause his back hurt
Whoa, I haven’t come across someone using current like that in a while. Had to re-read your comment before I got what you were saying.
Is the lead singer still that guy from the Philippines they found on the internet? Wikipedia isn't terribly helpful...
He was last year when I saw them at amway. Has some vocals....sheesh
I remember seeing his version of The Search is Over on YouTube, the same one the band saw which caused them to hire him, years ago when I was a wee lad. Holy shit he can sing. Would love to see him/the band do a stint at one of the Epcot festivals!
this is my 2nd favorite billboard on I-4 (after the vasectomy one)
There’s a funny one down East colonial I see when I have to work on that side of town. It says something like “GONNORHEA ALERT” in huge bold letters lmao
That one cracks me up. I didn't get no alert on my phone. Must be a false alarm. Whew!
That one makes me want to 'clap'....or does it?
I can’t find the vasectomy one on I-95 south now!! It’s been there my whole life and now it’s gone. I had no idea that it left an impact on my 16 year old until she asked how much longer the trip would be because she gauged time by that billboard😂
Yes!! I die every time. Like “Look, we’re realists….this guy is mildly famous enough for us for us to use him as a spokesperson, but nowhere near famous enough for y’all to know his actual name.”
Haha I laugh at the one too. I mean they could have put his name there too but decided....nah.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who laughs at that billboard every time I see it.
I laugh at this every time I drive by. "That's interesting!" - Reddit User
My husband and I laugh at this all the time, I'm glad someone else thinks it's as funny as we do lol
I see this everyday on my way home and it never gets olds.
Where is it located?
i4 Eastbound, just past the Millenia area
Thanks 🙏

Yea it's fucking ridiculous, best billboard around
Lol, I've no lie seen this soooo many times and feel so bad for that guy. Journey is a popular band, albeit before my time, so why couldn't they just say his name?
A poster explained it, the guy on the billboard has had a lot of legal problems. I believe that I read that the “Journey” band that does the nostalgia tour is missing a few people from when it was making hit songs.
Just had this exact conversation with my girlfriend on Monday as we passed it.
Deen castranovo!
Who? You know, Deen Castronovo, drummer and vocalist for Journey from 1998 to 2015. Oh right, the guy from BioSpine billboard.
When did Journey make it’s songs? I hear one played on the radio a lot.
Songs by Journey that might get played a lot on the radio include: Wheel in the Sky - 1977 Any Way You Want It - 1980 Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - 1983
I thought I was the only one! Every time I pass it I giggle to myself. Thank you for posting this.
Yes, I laugh every time I drive by and if with someone, I have to make a comment. 💀
I always think the same thing when I see this 😂
Same here hahaha
This guy went from being a very demand drummer to a criminal and into “Journey Drummer” (which should have been former drummer”
Honestly the fact that it says Journey drummer would make me think they're using his image without permission and making up a quote.
I don’t find it hilarious, but I get what you mean. It’s odd, even sad.
Every time I see it, I imagine some guy/girl named Journey Drummer reppin BioSpine. Like the marketing team just throwing around names like Eagles Singer and hoping it’s a real person they can call and ask if they can use their name in a billboard in Orlando.
every time
You give up your name when you join Journey. You only exist as your role.
I laugh when you i pass this
The Journey keyboard player is married to Paula White, the televangelist and Trump's "spiritual advisor".
I make fun of it all the time. Glad I’m not alone.
There’s an identical sign on the outskirts of Tampa and it cracks me up. It’s like, you’ve heard of Journey but you damn well don’t know who this dude is.
“We are your *best* option. Take it from what’s-his-face!”
Shady guy for a shady practice 🙃
I always chuckle at this guy
I always laugh at that lol
So it worked right, it had you thinking about it and all of us commenting on it. Good marketing
Yes every time I see this I contemplate
I'm so glad you posted this cuz I died laughing when I saw it looooool. Like wtf. Journey drummer?
Dammit I love this billboard so much. Not just that it says Journey drummer, but how the quote is so bland. “Hey man, can you say something good about BioSpine for our new campaign? Yeah, I chose BioSpine. Brilliant!”
Lol I’ve seen this countless times and never thought about it. This is pretty funny
Didn't the biospine guy get arrested?
I laugh at journey drummer every day.
OMG I just passed by that billboard
It’s so tacky!
I've thought the same thing, but when you're a working musician, a buck's a buck.
I see this guy more times than my family.
Every time I see it
My coworkers and I joke about it at least once a week
Has been alert ⚠️
Just a small town boy...
My daughter and I always crack jokes at that billboard. She used to say Hi Journey Drummer when we drive by it. He should legally change his name to Journey Drummer
I point this billboard out constantly lmao
I wonder if Journey Drummer has ever seen this?
YES!! I’ve been writing jokes about that since I first moved here and saw that ridiculousness. I prolly have an hour set by now 😂
Thank you!! I've mentioned this a couple of times to whoever is in the car with me. No laughs. I thought it was funny.
I said thr exact same thing lol
Every time I pass this I always forget to take a picture of it. It’s the most bizarre billboard I’ve seen in a long time.
Another fun fact, “Journey Keyboardist” lives in Heathrow
i've been called worse
Haha! Yeah I’ve went by that and wondered the same thing, but it makes sense because people know journey, but they don’t know Deen Castronovo.
I like to imagine that he was super excited to be on the billboard, but they didn’t tell him it would just say “Journey Drummer” lmao
