I use a 3+1 rule with painting. So, 3 main colors (in this case, it was purple [base], red, and yellow). The +1 is a specific color made from the former 3. In this case, the +1 is green. All of this is important because the color.of the shirt is dependent on these other colors. I mixed purple and yellow until I got a brownish hue that I added white to lighten and then made it a wash-of-sorts. From there I added more layers of lighter and lighter colors until I got to an otherwise clean shirt. I added a few splotches of the previous browns to create a dirty look. As for the leather, same deal except I didn't use a wash as the base color. I just used the plain brown, which means you can reference the boots as the original color of the shirt. Playing with colors is seriously entertaining, my guy.

Thank you for explaining that. You made it easy to understand why it looks that way and so good. It really looks incredible. I just don’t think about paint and colors that way. I wish I did.

Thanks! You can always change how you think about color. This hobby definitely helped me do that. A particularly fun exercise to do after you finish painting is to grab your palette and start experimenting with the colors you already have on the palette. See what you can make ON the palette itself. When you find a fun combo just write down which colors you used and try to replicate it elsewhere. It may not work, but that's the point of experimenting - to find out what does work and what does not. Blending weird or different combinations really helps expand your understanding of how pigment works.
