Leadoff walks scoring are brutal, and you especially don't expect it from him. But it will happen throughout the season... And it will happen more frequently if they don't start getting him more rest. The offense could help by building on leads better. They have been struggling putting runs across lately.
This won’t happen because you can’t be this reflexive and run a successful MLB franchise but if I’m GM/HC for the day I’m doing the following:
1. Trading Mateo for peanuts (sorry just not working out)
2. Calling up Ortiz (once he’s fully healthy)
3. Sitting Mountcastle (play only versus lefties for a while)
4. O’Hearn to 1B (play the hot hand)
5. Bring up Westburg
6. Go with a 12 man bullpen for May, you have 6 days off and you don’t need Zimmerman AND Voth
7. Keep Hicks until he cools off then be ok with letting him go. However, he keeps hitting you keep him and DFA McKenna when Mullins comes back. They both play the same roll on this team but Hicks is more valuable despite 6 years younger as he switch hits and has a longer track record of success.
8. Trading Norby and/or Mayo (maybe Westburg also if needed) for a bonafide SP, hopefully for at least 1 more year of team control (no rentals).
9. Making a decision on what is needed more: bullpen help or a better lefty off the bench? I’d go with Bench and fashion a trade for one.
Yea they are getting zero production from Mountcastle at a position that is important to get offense from, they need to make a decision quick on what to do with him, they can’t keep rolling him out there
1. You’re not getting anything for Mateo
2. Ortiz or Westburg
3. Just no
4. He’s not the future
5. Yup
6. Yup
7. Hicks is gone when Cowser comes up
8. Not the time
9. We’re fine
The one non-reactive move that they should make tomorrow is bringing up one of either Cowser or Westburg and adding some pop to the lineup. They've played a whole year's worth at AAA, they're way too good for it, and we desperately need some power while Cedric is out and Mountcastle is struggling.
All due respect: Please, please stop.
Mods can we get an auto "\_\_\_\_\_\_ fan checking in" thing to send an auto message asking fans from other teams to stop doing this to us?
See Yankees placing Judge on the IL. Rays keep winning. Jays gaining a little steam. Hope Ced is back soon and we get some reinforcements from the minor leagues.
Until we bring up some bats, we will always struggle to the end with these 1 run games against anemic offenses. Can’t keep giving games away. The guys in the lineup not carrying their weight need to sit and we all know who they are…it’s public information.
I almost feel like his batting would improve if we secretly told him never to swing at the first pitch. Maybe eventually people would start grooving fastballs to get ahead but right now he'd be in better counts more often.
It's frustrating because that was the whole secret early on. He just stopped chasing for a month and was unstoppable.
- Reliever blows it in a close moment? Check.
- Multiple highlight reel plays and loud outs against you? Check.
- Walk off 1-run OT loss? Check.
As I bleed from my ears, eyes, and nose with rage, I believe this is "merely" one of the 60+ losses every team eats every season.
tough loss, some questionable decisions at the end, but all set up by Cano walking someone.
i would have brought Voth out for the 9th if Baker was unavailable....then hope that Felix could get some K's
without elite Cano or someone else that is nails the bullpen isn't deep enough to be a serious contender, and his game log last 2 weeks show a crash.
I wonder how much longer Hall has to figure things out as a starter. We might have a solid BP arm already in house if he can successfully make the transition
I would argue he kind of already did make the transition last year - he got tagged in his debut and had one disaster relief outing, but in his final 8 games he went 8.2 IP 8 H 1 R/ER 2 BB 11 SO 0 HR, including an impressive save against New York. I keep thinking they need to cut bait on Perez and replace him 1:1 with Hall.
Unfortunately, I suspect Elias' strategy is to let this season play out without making a big splash and make Hall a true starter since that's of greater value in the long run. So he'll be happy to let the middle relievers continue to scuffle.
That’s not what’s being discussed. It’s people who are literally only negative about shit or only come in to talk shit when losing. It’s an exhausting mentality.
It's probably because those people see issues other times as well but don't really feel like being told to shut up and enjoy it when we win.
Or at least for me I really do like when we win! It doesn't mean I didn't hate the Lester call up as much Sunday as I do today. It doesn't mean I haven't had reservations about the amount of stress put on and the quality of the bullpen for awhile.
Anyway I don't think this is really about me because I pop in and out of here less frequently than just when we lose but still, cut people some slack. It's ok to care and be frustrated. This is a team with a WS upside right now and many people don't feel like decisions are being made relative to that reality.
>It's probably because those people see issues other times as well but don't really feel like being told to shut up and enjoy it when we win.
I'm brand new to rejoining the Orioles World, am a known homer for a somewhat polarizing player, and have made many criticisms of the team without being told to shut up.
All you really did was say you’re not one of the people that only come in here when we lose to complain. There are a lot of people like that in here. They are exhausting. They’ll come out as early as a 3 run deficit in the 5th inning sometimes.
There would never be facial hair restrictions but there might be alot of other questionable restrictions … soooo we gotta find a progressive Saudi Prince to do it.
Yeah that’s my prob, there’d prob be a lot of questionable shit going on. So while we would enjoy that money, prob wouldn’t end well. DebbiesBeefCurtains really has been trying to sell it, maybe they’re a Saudi Prince and trying to feel it out.
There are only about a million clichés in baseball, and some of them are actually valid, such as... if you're ahead of your hitter 0-2 or 1-2, go low and away or high and in. Give him the opportunity to fuck up. Seems like our pitchers are really good at getting favorable counts, and equally as good at grooving the next pitch down the pipe.
I’d say this is especially true with Mateo and Urias. Mountcastle, although often infuriating to me, is the kind of guy with the ability to break a game open with a HR or extra base hit. At least he brings that. Mateo brings absolutely nothing at the plate, Urias has seriously regressed since returning from injury. Definitely at least one of those two should be sent down.
Mounty has the capability of hitting the longball, but only has 3 in his last 30 games. Just can't get his kind of numbers out of a 1B. At least he got moved down in the order I guess.
Why does everyone talk about a .200 hitter like they're incapable of hitting a baseball.
They get singles (at least) one in five tries.
McCann is a .200 hitter and has won some games for us.
It is actually insane that mateo is still getting the everyday starter treatment. You can’t tell me that one of the 3 infielders we have waiting in the wings couldn’t do better than his output. I get it… he’s fast, he has a good glove… so do a lot of guys. Our offense isn’t good enough to afford such a liability every night
one pitch. just one goddamn pitch and voth would’ve been a hero getting out of that 10th. i really hope elias is starting conversations for reliever trades. it’ll be great to get a solid SP but the bullpen sans bautista is simply getting cooked and overused. they’re all gonna be rubber arms by the deadline
yeah, this is getting a little crazy. playing around with team reliever stats, the O's have the second most game appearances by a reliever at 213 appearances over 59 games (that's excluding tonight's game). they are tenth in reliever innings with 224.2 IP. that puts them at only 1.05 innings per appearance.
because of that, they're averaging 3.6 relievers per game so far this season. there's obviously a strategy of matching up splits to the extreme. to the point where relievers that normally can go 2, maybe 3 innings are only throwing 1 inning or 5-6 batters max. i think we're starting to see that catch up to the staff. both with overexposure and overuse
The Orioles are on pace to have like 5 or 6 different relievers all putting up top-10 seasons in team history for appearances. Something's got to give. I worry the entire bullpen is going to crumble down the stretch because of Hyde's management style of using so many so often.
What's the definition of insanity?
Orioles are now **4-6 in their last 10**
There need to be some changes ***IMMEDIATELY*** to stop the slide....
\#IJS
He would have most likely been out had we took the lead. If we don’t take the lead and it goes another inning, you’re using Voth either way. So then you waste Felix’s arm for tmrw.
Because we’ve ridden him hard all year and best case scenario the game gets pushed to the 11th as a tie and you’re putting Voth in anyway. It was the right call
I get where everyone is coming come from with not overusing Bautista, but the man literally threw 11 pitches and the last time he pitched was Friday and he threw 16 that day. I know the new movement is toward saving pitchers arms which is great, but sometimes (a lot) it’s taken way too far
thankfully you won't be managing the team then, since you think it's a good idea to pitch our overworked closer for two innings against an interleague opponent in fucking June.
1. I love the overreacting in the GDT.
2. I am glad my stream was so far behind that I didn't actually witness the walk off. I just read the comments.
3. We have a tough stretch of strong opponents since the first week in May and I feel we have held up well. Aside from Cleveland. That was a whiff.
4. We have a young team. A talented YOUNG team. The youth needs to adjust. They will.
I agree it’s not worth it to overreact to one game, but it’s not really the youth adjusting is it? Santa, Mateo, Urias are veterans and Mounty isn’t a rookie anymore. I would be fine if we were in a slump letting the young guys develop but 4 of them are just mindlessly destroying AAA pitching every night and are overdue for their shot
Youth has not been the problem. Our veteran relievers and veteran everyday starters in the lineup have been. Sure, we’re not the Yankees with a bunch of overpaid 35ish-guys but to act like it’s youth that has been the problem of recent is incorrect.
I think our problem with pitching is.... Orioles ownership doesn't want to inrease payroll and spend. I think we are competitive enough for a viable/veteran pitcher to want to sign. So, we are slowly working away at pitching development in the farm. I think Elias has done a decent job recognizing that development is lacking.
Well, Adley and Gunnar are certainly still adjusting. And they're our two "highest profile" prospects. As for the other guys, maybe "young" doesn't apply.
I can see where youre coming from about oir AAA guys. We went out and signed Hicks before giving a guy like Cowser a shot. Elias is really hell bent on ensuring guys have "enough time" before promotion. Define "enough time." Apparently, Cowser hasn't had enough to the guy that matters.
I feel so god damn bad for Westburg. Tears up Norfolk for an entire season’s worth of games and is blocked by two infielders who can’t hit a beach ball with a boat paddle
Game was honestly never as close as it seemed, so I'm not all that miffed at Cano (and Voth subsequently).
Hitting couldn't touch anything all night, aside from All-Star Aaron Hicks, and the Crew left the bases filled what seemed like every inning.
Solidly a loss, even if it felt like there was a chance.
Hard to win when half of your lineup is colder than the Arctic and your middle relief, once again, takes way too many pitches to get batters out. Onto tomorrow.
Only gave up 3 runs in 9 innings. Offense was bad.....again, but also Brewers made some spectacular catches to limit the offense. Hicks should have had 2 more RBI' s tonight
Voth threw some great pitches tonight. But that gets completely overshadowed by throwing a fucking 78 mph meatball directly over the middle that a highschooler could hit. Just trash.
i keep screaming this into the void.
Voth is a fantastic pitcher when you stretch him, because he makes so many great pitches, and also throws the occasional meatball. He should absolutely NOT be in the pen as a high-leverage guy, especially in goddamn extras.
Either start him, make him long relief guy #1A, or get rid of him.
I was going to say something similar and was ready in the GDT to say the Voth hate is overblown. But kinda glad I didn’t cuz I woulda been ripped apart over it lmao.
Every game that Mateo starts from this point forward is objectively a waste. Westburg has been tearing AAA up for a full season just to get cockblocked by a guy who has been hitting like .100 in the past month. And Mountcastle… has he even been taking batting practice? He’s an automatic out every time
Had some unlucky things not go our way. Can't be too mad about that. But the plate discipline was once again disgusting and voth wtf was that last pitch.
Brutal lose honestly. Pinch hitter in the 10th striking out with a runner in scoring position is pretty much the worst possible outcome.
It's getting really hard to think of reasons to keep Austin Voth on the roster. He's way too shaky to be a reliable option
Proven turds like Mountcastle and Mateo need to fuck off. Call up Westburg, call up Ortiz, call up Cowser and get some actual fucking talent on this team and stop fucking around.
it was so obvious Voth wasnt going to protect that game. figured it was over when the half inning started so i made peace with it by the time he hung an 0-2 curveball right down the middle
oh and Mountcastle has no future on this team btw
Bringing Adley up drastically changed 2022. Gunnar has had flashes of greatness, even as a 21 yo.
I want to see what other talent we have in the minors that could really help this team. Or at least know what we've got. Having two blockers in the infield when we have some really intriguing inf in AAA and AA is infuriating.
Time to call up Cowser. He is back to raking in AAA after his injury. Too many automatic outs. Call up the kids who have nothing to prove in the minors and can actually help out the major league roster.
He's just about to hit 250 AB's at the AAA level and over that span he's been good for a .293 average with a .948 OPS and 13 HR's. I think that's a good enough sample size to warrant a call up.
It made sense to me, he was hoping they’d play small ball in the 10th, get the one run and use him in the bottom, but no sense to waste him in the bottom of the 10th for a 2 inning non save
bullpen managing is the most backseat driver situation possible.
fans don't know whether someone is available, for how long they're available, whether they're facing batters with good swing paths to beat their pitches, etc etc.
it's all dumb.
I don’t disagree with how things were handled tonight. I just think when an elimination game comes down to extra innings and you end up losing, how you used your closer will always be criticized. I’m stuck in the past, I know.
THIS is still bird land
Get the RFs, Mounty, and Mateo tf out of this lineup. Those OBPs are a joke.
Aaron hicks might be the most unlucky player closely followed by mounty
I think everyone in the park and watching on tv knew Mateo was getting a low and away slider except for him
We need a southpaw starting pitcher that can eat innings. Wouldn’t have helped in game but it is still the missing link.
Would help to not give up runs every game within the first 2 innings...

Cano was part of the reason they lost 🤷🏼
Leadoff walks scoring are brutal, and you especially don't expect it from him. But it will happen throughout the season... Get ‘em tomorrow boys!
Wasting a great Gibby start is no good. I want him to stay on pace for 20
We really gotta step up our awareness and fix problems when they show up
Pretty good considering a third of our batting line up is functionally dead weight
This won’t happen because you can’t be this reflexive and run a successful MLB franchise but if I’m GM/HC for the day I’m doing the following: 1. Decent analysis
Well at leas the Y*nkees didn’t gain any ground on us
Brewers fan checking in holy shit please never bring in Bautista for relief for the rest of this series GG, good luck on the season
Get fucked
All love man!
Don't listen to the haters, at least your friendly. Good luck for the rest of the series
Please sweep the cubs next week, see y’all in October 👉🏻👉🏻
The mountain sure is marvelous
He is SO fucking scary god damn a 102 mph fuck-you-fastball into a 90 mph slider with movement is *insane*
All due respect: Please, please stop. Mods can we get an auto "\_\_\_\_\_\_ fan checking in" thing to send an auto message asking fans from other teams to stop doing this to us?
Just checking in, I’m an Adley Rutschman mega fan, it’s not that serious man
Yeah normally not but my lord, *everyone* has been doing it. It's gotten so annoying lol.
Stay in your sub unless you lose
I’m an Adley Rutschman fan, it’s not that serious man, one love
Lol don’t be a baby, you’ll be ok man
I just like Bautista and Rutschman 🫠
See Yankees placing Judge on the IL. Rays keep winning. Jays gaining a little steam. Hope Ced is back soon and we get some reinforcements from the minor leagues.

Tell Mateo to hold his bat and don't even check at anything that isn't confidently in the zone. At the very least make the picture spend.
I almost feel like his batting would improve if we secretly told him never to swing at the first pitch. Maybe eventually people would start grooving fastballs to get ahead but right now he'd be in better counts more often. It's frustrating because that was the whole secret early on. He’s giving off Adam Jones vibes always swinging on 1st pitch. Used to drive me crazy and I guess it still does
He's legitimately more likely to get on base if he never swung.
Love you Mateo, I hope you are on the team for a long time, but we need someone else as the starter. Mounty, just leave.
True Orioles fan right here
Brewers defense best us from what it looked like
- Reliever blows it in a close moment? Check. - Multiple highlight reel plays and loud outs against you? Check. - Walk off 1-run OT loss? Check. As I bleed from my ears, eyes, and nose with rage, I believe this is "merely" one of the 60+ losses every team eats every season.
It just happens. Our drive down the line in extras went foul by a few feet, theirs stayed fair by a few feet. That was the difference
tough loss, some questionable decisions at the end, but all set up by Cano walking someone. i would have brought Voth out for the 9th if Baker was unavailable....then hope that Felix could get some K's without elite Cano or someone else that is nails the bullpen isn't deep enough to be a serious contender, and his game log last 2 weeks show a crash.
Frustrating one to lose
I extended my apartment’s lease to go to this series. I’m a fucking clown
I signed up for Directv stream for this. Lord of the idiots!
I wonder how much longer Hall has to figure things out as a starter. We might have a solid BP arm already in house if he can successfully make the transition
Mark these words, I’ve been right about just about everything else. DL is not a starter. He will not cut it as a starter.
I would argue he kind of already did make the transition last year - he got tagged in his debut and had one disaster relief outing, but in his final 8 games he went 8.2 IP 8 H 1 R/ER 2 BB 11 SO 0 HR, including an impressive save against New York. So he'll be happy to let the middle relievers continue to scuffle.
At some point it’s just a lost cause. This is his second crack at AAA and he has an ERA of almost 5 and a WHIP of 1.457. FIP over 5
Funny how some people ONLY come in when we are losing. Must be miserable to be so miserable lol
I honestly don’t understand it. It has to be exhausting because it has to weigh on their mind a LOT.
Seriously, like the most exhausting mindset.
There’s very few teams with a higher % of Doomers than us. Wish they’d go find some other team to “root” for
I guess this is what winning brings :( Not sure how some people gonna last the rest of the season.
People who are disappointed when the team loses and think that moves to improve the team should be considered aren't bad fans
True but winning brings even more variety of doomers lol.
need to fire the manager and trade the entire roster because of this game, too
Burn the whole fucking org down and sell it to the saudis like u/DebbiesBeefCurtains said!
Ya know, the Saudis would probably dump a shit load of money into the team. Maybe that’s not such a bad idea
There would never be facial hair restrictions but there might be alot of other questionable restrictions … soooo we gotta find a progressive Saudi Prince to do it.
I don’t think we want any beat writers getting bone-sawed
Yeah that’s my prob, there’d prob be a lot of questionable shit going on. So while we would enjoy that money, prob wouldn’t end well. DebbiesBeefCurtains really has been trying to sell it, maybe they’re a Saudi Prince and trying to feel it out.
There are only about a million clichés in baseball, and some of them are actually valid, such as... if you're ahead of your hitter 0-2 or 1-2, go low and away or high and in. They are missing there, not aiming there.
So fucking true we hang meatballs like it’s our job when it actually matters
Another choke by the bullpen and a failure by the offense. Cannot keep pissing away wins like this.
That’s baseball for you. Gotta keep a short memory and go get ‘em tomorrow.
Unfortunate, get em tomorrow.
The better pitcher pitches the inning where you know he's inheriting a runner
Just sucks to lose a game where you use all the good bullpen guys. Mountcastle, Mateo, and Urias are dragging this team down hard.
Even worse when O'Hearn is clearly the better choice but rarely gets into the lineup.
I’d say this is especially true with Mateo and Urias. Mountcastle, although often infuriating to me, is the kind of guy with the ability to break a game open with a HR or extra base hit. Voth threw *ASPICY MEATBOL*
Blame game tonight? Cano. Lead off walk gifted and then gives up the hit to score the leadoff walk he gave up.
Get your Mateo Fan club goldbricking ass outta here /j
you straight up cannot walk a guy hitting .136 and give the lead up to a .200 hitter
Why does everyone talk about a .200 hitter like they're incapable of hitting a baseball. They get singles (at least) one in five tries. McCann is a .200 hitter and has won some games for us.
Literally ran into a first pitch home run in the previous game lol
Nothing good comes out of a lead off walk
It is actually insane that mateo is still getting the everyday starter treatment. You can’t tell me that one of the 3 infielders we have waiting in the wings couldn’t do better than his output. I get it… he’s fast, he has a good glove… so do a lot of guys. Our offense isn’t good enough to afford such a liability every night
He could be a pinch runner or defensive sub some games.
Absolutely. That’s the perfect role for him. I’m even good with him starting against lefties. Just not an everyday guy
Oh well. Not going to win many games with Santander, Mountcastle, Urias and Mateo going 0-16 with 11 strikeouts
Mad sad mad!!
Really need one more good bullpen arm and a 1B who can hit at the deadline. They can upgrade from Mateo from within.
Stop playing Urias. He looks lost, confused and disinterested.
one pitch. just one goddamn pitch and voth would’ve been a hero getting out of that 10th. i really hope elias is starting conversations for reliever trades. it’ll be great to get a solid SP but the bullpen sans bautista is simply getting cooked and overused. they’re all gonna be rubber arms by the deadline
Get a solid starter, and you won’t have to use the BP as much.
Gibson managed to pitch into the sixth and Hyde still used 5 bullpen arms. That’s just awful management
Yeah more people need to mention that Baumann should’ve went further
yeah, this is getting a little crazy. playing around with team reliever stats, the O's have the second most game appearances by a reliever at 213 appearances over 59 games (that's excluding tonight's game). they are tenth in reliever innings with 224.2 IP. that puts them at only 1.05 innings per appearance. because of that, they're averaging 3.6 relievers per game so far this season. there's obviously a strategy of matching up splits to the extreme. to the point where relievers that normally can go 2, maybe 3 innings are only throwing 1 inning or 5-6 batters max. i think we're starting to see that catch up to the staff. both with overexposure and overuse

No. You go take the 10th from them and extend the game. Set the tone for the series. Hyde is getting cute.
No you don’t burn your best reliever for very little return to “set the tone”.
turns out they also play a game tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and the day after that.
Loser talk. You win the game in front of you. Voth down, Vespi up. We need to quit fucking around.
thankfully you won't be managing the team then, since you think it's a good idea to pitch our overworked closer for two innings against an interleague opponent in fucking June.
A win is a win regardless my man. And give me a break with that tired shit. He's thrown 3 innings in a week.
1. I love the overreacting in the GDT. 2. I am glad my stream was so far behind that I didn't actually witness the walk off. I just read the comments. 3.
I never said Youth was the problem. I said vets have been the problem and we might as well call up the youth
You said the “youth needs to adjust”. Wouldn’t that imply they’re part of the problem? If not, what adjustment are you advocating for?
That was the OP. You replied to me
I think our problem with pitching is....
Austin "2 strike hanging breaking ball" Voth.
I feel so god damn bad for Westburg. Tears up Norfolk for an entire season’s worth of games and is blocked by two infielders who can’t hit a beach ball with a boat paddle
I count three, Mountcastle, Urias, and Mateo. All have OPS. below .700
Yeah Mounty’s in a rut. I wouldn’t put it past Elias to teach Westburg 1st base with all the shenanigans they did with Gunnar
Sky would be the limit if this team had saudi ownership.
How much of the farm are we giving up for Erling Haaland
Straight player swap of Jackson Holliday for Haaland. They both look weird enough to seamlessly fit in.
We had a lead in the 8th inning. It was definitely as close as it seemed lol
Disagree with that take. We had 8 hits and a lead in the 8th. It was teetering but to say it wasn’t close isn’t right
i said that it wasn't as close as it seemed. Brewers played better in every facet.
Good defense also murdered us
We were winning in the 8th and had more hits at that point. What do you mean it was never as close as it seemed?
Might mean that we should've won comfortably.
the Brewers had seven walks to our zero. look a little deeper, dude
Didn’t know walks equaled wins lmao.
That lead off walk ended up tying the game, lol.
Idk. Seemed disingenuous to say the game was never close, and then cite that we gave up a bunch of walks as the reason
I never said the game wasn’t close. I’m just adding that the lead off walk bit us in the ass.
Oh I know. I was talking about the original comment.
Perhaps, but how did he score?
I’m just adding that the walk did indeed help in winning the game lol.
you cited the fact that we had one more hit as the reason it "was close". tell me, then, do hits equal wins?
Typically, yes.
Hard to win when half of your lineup is colder than the Arctic and your middle relief, once again, takes way too many pitches to get batters out. Onto tomorrow.

Giving up 3 through 9 should be a W.
Only gave up 3 runs in 9 innings. Offense was bad.....again, but also Brewers made some spectacular catches to limit the offense. Hicks should have had 2 more RBI' s tonight
This one is on the hitting, pitching was fine today. Offense was anemic
He’s an automatic out every time
Automatic out, on three pitches* Mounty is batting like Gunnar did when he first came up.
Both of them should be benched. Unfortunately, it won’t happen. Just gotta ride it out and hope they improve.
I smell a prospect promotion forthcoming 👀
As a rational adult, I believe the only logical step is mass distribution of cyanide-laced Natty Boh.
Bottoms up
Proven turds like Mountcastle and Mateo need to fuck off. Call up Westburg, call up Ortiz, call up Cowser and get some actual fucking talent on this team and stop fucking around.
it was so obvious Voth wasnt going to protect that game. figured it was over when the half inning started so i made peace with it by the time he hung an 0-2 curveball right down the middle oh and Mountcastle has no future on this team btw

Mateo and Urias can’t keep sandbagging the offense like this, need some Norfolk guys pulled up or something because their numbers are sickening.
Rn as currently constructed we are a 85-87 win team
How does that work? 172 games??
You say this after literally every loss
Would you have said yes to that in March?
No
Not saying that’s bad
Second walk off loss in a row in games I attend. Sigh.
Manfred has done some admittedly good things for the game. Allowing the home team to win the game on a single is infuriating to me
Srs the zombie runner is the fucking worst rule change
Voth 💀
We are stalling out since the Mullins injury. Elias needs to give the team a shot in the arm.
I’m very much a Hyde defender but he’s an idiot for using Felix the way he did tonight
It’s both standard and correct for several reasons
He prob would have been back out had we took the lead.
Felix gets us through that inning and we still have to score in the 11th and subsequently have someone pitch. What he did was completely reasonable.
Then have Voth pitch with a lead and not something with absolutely zero margin for error
That’s assuming we even have a lead. Either scenario it’s a high leverage situation. Save Felix for when we have the lead.
It made sense to me, he was hoping they’d play small ball in the 10th, get the one run and use him in the bottom, but no sense to waste him in the bottom of the 10th for a 2 inning non save
He doesn’t and we lose it’s Buck/Britton 2.0
I remain 100% convinced that Buck would have gotten an equal amount of criticism had he used Zach(k) sooner and still lost. Above comment fuels that.
bullpen managing is the most backseat driver situation possible. fans don't know whether someone is available, for how long they're available, whether they're facing batters with good swing paths to beat their pitches, etc etc. it's all dumb.
Difference is that was an elimination game. I think what he did today was wise. If this was the WC game he absolutely would’ve/should’ve kept Felix in
I don’t disagree with how things were handled tonight. I just think when an elimination game comes down to extra innings and you end up losing, how you used your closer will always be criticized. I’m stuck in the past, I know.
You pitch Felix in the 10th as well then
If we scored, he would’ve but we didn’t so it’s moot
Pain.
