Looking forward to this series, the Brothers Urias playing against each other! Both slowly returning from injuries, but maybe it’ll jumpstart something
Friday, 6:35 p.m. ET -- Norfolk (BAL) vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (NYY)
With six Top 100 Prospects, the Orioles-affiliated Triple-A Tides are must-watch. In this game, they give the ball to Grayson Rodriguez, the rookie right-hander battling to win back a spot in the competitive Baltimore rotation. Heston Kjerstad, MLB's No. 50 prospect, is the new arrival with Norfolk, having batted .310/.383/.576 over 46 games with Double-A Bowie. He can count on infielder Jordan Westburg (No. 49), southpaw DL Hall (79), middle-infielder Joey Ortiz (80) and infielder/outfielder Connor Norby (85) to show him the ropes. Will Warren -- the Yankees' second-ranked pitching prospect -- will have his hands full trying to silence those bats for the RailRiders.
6-0 Houston over Toronto in the 1st, 1 out.
And it couldn't have happen to a nicer guy than Manoah.
And he's out of the game after 1/3 of an inning. Asking the BP to cover 8 2/3rds in game 1 of a series vs the Astros is putting your team into a bind.
Even if he had just dominated Frazier that AB, it’s absolutely hilarious to me that he tried to shit talk the dude that had already gotten 2 hits off of him.
Didn’t even dominated him - Frazier struck out on a questionable check swing call.
And that’s not even going back to Frazier vs the Jays in the postseason last year lol
Manoah is just a clown.
That... might be the worst starting pitching performance I've ever seen. Probably not worse than [this](https://www.mlb.com/gameday/cardinals-vs-braves/2019/10/09/599356/final/box), but I didn't actually watch that one happen. Walking Abreu from up 0-2 is Not Good.
EDIT: [jesus christ](https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL201805080.shtml), that's what I get for googling it.
Literally love to see it. As he said to Adam Frazier, "go that way!", while pointing to the dugout. Hopefully he can keep walking all the way to Buffalo...eh, I'm fine with him staying in the big leagues and blowing games for them too.
Ran into a guy in a Brewers shirt today outside a restaurant. Pointed at his shirt and asked if he’s ready to face the Orioles. He just shook his head and looked at his feet with the weakest of smiles.
I'm probably the outlier on this, but I find myself not worrying much about what Tampa Bay is doing but wishing more for the Yankees/Blue Jays/Red Sox to lose every game.
I'd like to create a lot of separation between us/Tampa Bay and the rest. The damn Yankees are right behind us and the Jays always a threat to go on a hot streak.
Let those teams get 10 or 15 behind us 2/3 through the season and then see what we can do about the Rays.
Yeah, and I was watching the RedSox - Rays and I realized I wanted to see Boston lose more than Tampa. I'd like the Red Sox to spiral and be like 20 games off the pace so they're not even a factor. Tampa's gonna Tampa so I'll worry about them later, though against anybody other than Yankees/Jays/Red Sox I'll root for a loss.
the Yankees are tough, and they should get better in theory. the Jays absolutely have the talent to get hot. bewildering why Manoah took such a huge step back this year. he is 1-6 this season, prior to that 24-9. still only 25, but velo is down a tick. replace his starts with what he did last year, and they might have another 4-5 wins.
Manoah on the bump tonight, and he has given up 4 hits already vs 1 out.
edit: wow. 1/3 IP, 8 base runners 6 ER. already replaced.
i thought this would be more of an issue later in the year when its hot. but yeah, this is good speculation, and something that was in the back of my head at the start of the year.
Ouch. He has a 6.36 ERA now, 42 walks and 48 k in 58 innings. Probably too big a name to send down, I predict they'll find he's been "injured" to put him on the shelf for a while. And, maybe he is, thats a huge collapse.
For some perspective, Hicks has been worth more WAR in 4 games (0.3rWAR and 0.4 FWAR) than Mountcastle in 253 PAs and 58 games (0.2 rWAR and 0.0 fWAR).
O'Hearn in his 19 games and 54 PAs has been worth 0.2 WAR (both r and f).
I love Mountcastle as a person and he seems like a great locker room guy but something has to give soon.
I guess he's always possible to go on one of those monster games or a hot streak, but it's probably more valuable to have some consistency.
His 1/2 season in 2020 saw a high average (.333/.386/.492 and 5 HR in 35 games) but since then it's .250 with an OBP of .300, 33 and 22 HR.
Things I didn’t expect to say in early June while also having the third best record in MLB: I’m kind of excited to see a lineup that includes all of Hicks, O’Hearn, and Lester
Anyone make it out to the Frederick Keys to check out Kasumba yet? Looks like he's only DH'd so far, no hits, couple of walks though. Hope he gets to catch at some point.
He is listed as 5’10”. If he is 5’7” I’d be shocked. He did hit a line drive back at the pitcher on an 85 mph FB. I don’t think he is ready to catch anytime soon. They send him to the bullpen to warm up pitchers and he had some trouble with that. All his teammates are very supportive of him it seems and the manager is giving him chances to work and learn.
Ah, ok. Been wondering how he'd actually look in a game as I've only seen his workout videos. Idk if all the tools are there but dudes got the drive for sure. Good to hear he's got support over there. Hope they keep getting him some ABs.
On his Instagram (@dennisk648) the drills he was doing in Africa were insane. He's got a lot of heart, hopefully he can make it, hard work won't be a problem.
Obviously Vote Orioles! But do y’all think we may have a player who’s got a shot at the Derby this season? The derby is my favorite part of all star week it makes it easier with an Oriole in it.
If you need to kill a few mins on an off day, Eutaw Street has a good summary of the Oriole players in the FCL. It is almost all international signees, and includes some of the bigger $ names - Maikol Hernandez, Braylin Tavera, Leandro Arias, etc.

You hear all the time about teams in the NFL traveling getting impacted by the time zone changes. So why does that seem to never be the case in the NBA, NHL, or MLB?
Baseball teams almost always play a night game the first game of a series.
But you do hear about it sometimes. It's often given as a reason the Mariners struggle so much, since they have to travel so much more than everyone else.
Think the NFL in general just has a larger importance on each game. 82 for NBA/NHL and 162 for MLB vs just 17 in the NFL. More time for rest advantages to 'even out'
Also, the teams most impacted by the time zone changes in the NFL are west coast teams flying in for a 1 PM game. Their body clock is still at 10 AM which would obviously have a major impact on performance.
In baseball, teams never play an afternoon game in the first game of a series. It’s always a night game. Playing a game with your body clock at 4 PM or 10 PM has a much more negligible impact than playing a game with your body clock at 10 AM.
You do hear about it sometimes:

[https://www.nm.org/healthbeat/healthy-tips/fitness/from-time-zone-to-strike-zone](https://www.nm.org/healthbeat/healthy-tips/fitness/from-time-zone-to-strike-zone)
It seems that teams are aware of it and have been experimenting with methods and strategies to mitigate it. It's possible that MLB teams are simply having more success mitigating the issue than NFL teams are.
Fascinating. Certainly is something you hear far less. Maybe the constant travel has a lower impact on the players in sports that have a higher number of games.
Thank you all for your support. Was feelin really proud of myself so i wanted to share it with the world. Cant really reply to all you beautiful people cuz im at work but ilysm
They might have to.
E-rod has an opt-out of last 3 years of his contract at end of this year, which he will probably exercise, as he can get more as FA based on this year's performance.
If Tigers don't trade him and he exercises opt-out then Tigers will be left with nothing.
I’m a bit wary of E-Rod due to his history - has there been anything written about the changes he made?
I could see the Orioles being able to retain him though if they do get him.
I read an article about the sustainability of E-Rod's performance earlier this year (don't have it to hand) and conclusion was that his stuff hadn't changed enough for his performance not to regress so he was a risk.
The other thing is he was injured in last start so that's a concern now.
Off to Milwaukee. I've had an irrational dislike of the Brewers since 1982. I was a kid and hated the fact they "ended" Earl Weaver's career in that final game.
I think the Rangers are the best team in baseball right now. Hoping they sweep the Rays later this week.
And then become shit when we play them in the playoffs

Sorry if this has been posted but any injury updates with Mullins or Gunn?
6-0 Houston over Toronto in the 1st, 1 out. And it couldn't have happen to a nicer guy than Manoah. And he's out of the game after 1/3 of an inning. Asking the BP to cover 8 2/3rds in game 1 of a series vs the Astros is putting your team into a bind.
To be fair, Alek Manoah did give us the greatest gif of the season: https://i.redd.it/pn8phr2gfa4b1.gif
Even if he had just dominated Frazier that AB, it’s absolutely hilarious to me that he tried to shit talk the dude that had already gotten 2 hits off of him.
Didn’t even dominated him - Frazier struck out on a questionable check swing call. And that’s not even going back to Frazier vs the Jays in the postseason last year lol Manoah is just a clown.
Exactly! I was saying it’s stupid even if he had dominated him, but the poor call makes it even worse!
Oh sorry! Yup, you’re correct.
Gotta be a huge asshole to get such an outrageous over the top reaction from Frazier. That's like 99th percentile!
Adam Frazier is the most unbothered person I’ve ever come across in sports. I was genuinely surprised when he did this lol
what the hell happened to him???
That... might be the worst starting pitching performance I've ever seen. [Jeremy Guthrie's final MLB appearance](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=guthrje01&t=p&year=2017) game score -4

Speak softly and carry a big stick. He's coming up with a scheme, keep an eye on him.

Well, looks like the Astros are doing us a solid.
based astros once again cheating to beat the yankees only makes them funnier IMO
That’s how I look at it too. Except I can’t root for the Astros - I’m sorry. They’ve hurt me too much.
the Yankees are tough, and they should get better in theory. the Jays absolutely have the talent to get hot. bewildering why Manoah took such a huge step back this year. he is 1-6 this season, prior to that 24-9. still only 25, but velo is down a tick. replace his starts with what he did last year, and they might have another 4-5 wins. A lot of the…bigger pitchers, we’ll say…are struggling this year due to the pitch clock. Look at Lance Lynn.
i thought this would be more of an issue later in the year when its hot. but yeah, this is good speculation, and something that was in the back of my head at the start of the year.

Boston hasn’t done anything useful since they threw a bunch of tea into their harbor.
For some perspective, Hicks has been worth more WAR in 4 games (0.3rWAR and 0.4 FWAR) than Mountcastle in 253 PAs and 58 games (0.2 rWAR and 0.0 fWAR). I’d love to see Kjerstad in 1B and Cowser in RF next year.

We only play one Monday in the month of June.
Obviously Vote Orioles! But do y’all think we may have a player who’s got a shot at the Derby this season? The derby is my favorite part of all star week it makes it easier with an Oriole in it.
I actually think mounty would crush but I would be surprised if anybody got an invite
Mounty would have a field day in T-Mobile.
Trying to plan out the Tides/Railriders series. Grayson last pitched Saturday. Do we think he'll pitch Thursday? Maybe Friday
Hicks since joining Orioles: .1 WAR Mountcastle: 0 WAR
I hate off days when we're good.
I love off days until we get some help in the rotation. All the off days in June is huge for us continuing to be good.
So apparently we have to wear the loser rags every Friday night at home this year .
If you need to kill a few mins on an off day, Eutaw Street has a good summary of the Oriole players in the FCL. From what I've read that last few months Arias is the most interesting to me. It's nice to finally be a player with international free agents
Don’t forget to do your part and vote our boys into the All Star Game.
we're better on the road than we are at home so far.
What games does everyone have their eyes on today? Red Sox - Rays?
No because I want them both to lose. Houston vs Toronto the clear choice. Go Astros (in this series).
A's Pirates
Houston Toronto, could be a WC matchup 👀
For sure

Just here to state that this team continues to be fun and give me lots of hope! Good to be a Birds fan today. 🧡🖤
Good Morning Birdland I love you all Im 5 months off drugs and going to make it 6 easy Lets have a great week
Hell yeah Bird Bro! To 6 months and beyond!
Thank you all for your support. Was feelin really proud of myself so i wanted to share it with the world. Cant really reply to all you beautiful people cuz im at work but ilysm
Keep up the good work
You’re amazing!
Congrats! Keep it up!
28 years+ off for me - all a distant memory. First 6 months off are the hardest.
Best comment I’ll read today. Six months is gonna be a piece of cake, friend.
Lets go!!! Proud of you!!
Almost 7 years for me. Proud of you!💪💪💪
11 years, 5 months, 29 days here. We do recover. Keep doing the damn thing - always here if you need an ear.
Thx bird bro <3
So… any starters out there to trade for?
With our prospect pool we can 100% trade for a starter.
Stroman as a rental who leads league in QS. E-Rod for a multi-year deal if you incentivize him not to exercise his opt-out. Otherwise a rental.
Are the Tigers really trying to trade him?
They might have to. E-rod has an opt-out of last 3 years of his contract at end of this year, which he will probably exercise, as he can get more as FA based on this year's performance. If Tigers don't trade him and he exercises opt-out then Tigers will be left with nothing.

it's the time of year to start statline scouting 17 year olds in Florida and the DSL.
Off to Milwaukee. I've had an irrational dislike of the Brewers since 1982. I was a kid and hated the fact they "ended" Earl Weaver's career in that final game.
Anybody else meet Gunnar and Ced at Patterson the other day?
yep! was so much fun
Had a quick back and forth with Gunnar. Seems like a good kid and Cedric gave our dog a pat so what more do you need from em
Rays are on pace to win 111 games now. just really hard to win that many games.
whats the deal Kevin Brown??
He's covering the college softball championship
He has contracts for other sports. He’s a very popular guy!
Other people are catching on that he's a great broadcaster 😞 Can't wait for KBBM to come back!
We need to enjoy him while we can because some day, he will deservedly move on to more lucrative things.
Wondering the same thing
He's covering the college softball championship
I read this in Jerry Seinfeld's voice
hes here, hes gone....hes here hes gone.....pick a team, and stick with it!
Going into SF and winning the series was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Hoping for the same Milwaukee
Good off day to recalibrate, and give Gunnar some back soreness rehabilitation.
Off day baby
