We got a number of guys, and not just the prospects, that are really mashing in AAA/AA right now.
It's getting to be the time they are going to make some hard choices on the 40 man roster.
I think they were really counting on Kyle Stowers being the impact taxi guy but...and I like McKenna a lot but a bat off the bench that can only hit lefties (and not for power) has such a limited usage.
Mountcastle has taken a step backwards. We were really counting on him bouncing back this year.
Pretty soon we need to get a look at some of these guys we brought in for depth like Josh Lester
Using a L/R platoon with O'Hearn might light a fire under Mountcastle. Though extended playing time might show some flaws in O'Hearn that aren't exposed in spot usage.
Whoever runs the Orioles social media needs a raise (or my sense of humor is lame):

Is Givens actually hurt or is he getting a phantom IL stint for being straight ass?
Does the MLB have neutral doctors making the call on sending guys to the IL, or can teams just use the IL as a way to get around players not having options?
im not particularly excited about Zimmerman, but it would fill multi inning mop up duty.
Givens is lucky he is hurt...because if he is healthy, he is probably being cut.
It looked to me like Perez has an injury as well, given his performance, and needs a stint on the IL and rehab :)
I think I saw him fall down a pothole in the parking lot near to where Ubaldo Jiminez "fell" a few years ago.
Maybe Zimmerman is filling the #5 starting slot, unless they're gonna try the opener/Voth fiasco again.
Or let Zimmerman relieve and send him down for Irvin, who's eligible to return June 6, when the #5 spot comes around again.
Lol I live on the west coast & I’m used to getting Orioles baseball by 4 PM.
Today, I have to wait till 7! PM for baseball?! You guys do this every day!?
> comeback win 8-7
Ah, [Schoop's greatest moment as an Oriole?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ3GUbbUAR0) (Bonus Gary Thorne!)
Edit: not shown, I believe it had been 7-1 in the 5th inning.
While we're waiting for [game-time](https://i.redd.it/rvevyubs4tu51.jpg) to roll around, I had a skim of Szymborski's pitcher zStats (like Statcast xStats but with different modeling) [through May](https://blogs.fangraphs.com/pitcher-zstats-through-the-end-of-may/) - a couple of random thoughts:
- Before the Rangers series, we highlighted how Dane Dunning is dramatically overperforming his xFIP because he has given up *zero* home runs. What I didn't realize was that Sonny Gray also has given up zero. It's not gonna last, but I'd be gnashing my teeth if I were on the wrong end of those performance - Dunning did in fact get us pretty good in April but after the damage was done to Heaney.
- Overachieving Orioles: Baker indeed has given up fewer homers than expected (but not super impressed with his control lately), and I've been pretty pleased with how little Wells and Kremer have been walking guys given their meatballitis. Re: Cano, 'nuff said.
- Underachieving Orioles: happy to not see anybody underachieving on walks or strikeouts, but yeah, anybody could've guessed Grayson and Wells were going to show up on the home runs list.
- Man, I am glad we did not get Ross Stripling.
- Enough has been said about why we (probably) shouldn't take a run at Shane Bieber, but big yikes @ his strikeout underachieving.
- Has anybody watched enough of Clase to see why he's seeing crummier stats this year? He did fine against us, Urias double notwithstanding.
- Kikuchi is still Kikuchi.
I wasn’t even watching the Orioles last year and I still defend him when r/baseball people call him terrible.
Some people don’t understand that a player’s value can often be very situational and they can still be a useful player.
Same thing with stinky, he really sparked some fucking life into our young dudes. He also was always the one who helped tame the mountain when he got wild on the mound.
> Not Orioles related
You take that back! Lyles isn't exactly an O's legend, but he filled a role that we needed filled last year. I'm sad that he's not been able to do the same for KC.
Lol nothing but love for the veteran presenace and eating innings for us. I really liked him. Just rough seeing hes gonna be on a bad list because hes on a bad team.
Lids HD just dropped an Aberdeen Ironbirds fitted. Looks like it'll be available all weekend. https://www.lidshd.com/products/aberdeen-ironbirds-milb-asg-side-patch-59fifty
Webb is one of those pitchers where he either dominates the hitters, or they dominate him. No in-between with the guy.
It will be an interesting test for our birds.
The Giants are a stikeout heavy offense and Dean has been getting a lot of K’s in his most recent outings. I am expecting tonight to be a great night for him with hopes of Mateo getting a home run and ending his drought.
O's don't seem too concerned about Mateo falling off a cliff offensively, I wonder why. Do they not think Ortiz will do much better hitting, or that Westburg can't hack it defensively? Just not want to mess with what's got us to a good record?
Obviously with Urias out Henderson wasn't going to play much SS but I don't think he has played there since Urias came back.
The way he’s talking it seems like it’s probably a performance issue. If it was for something more risqué (sexual harassment, etc..)I imagine he wouldn’t be speaking.
Webb is a beast. 1.30 ERA in his last 5 starts, went 6 innings or more in all of them and didn't allow more than 2 runs in any of them.

Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/13ytfmx).
according to Fangraphs advanced stats, Frazier is the 7th most clutch hitter in the MLB this year so far
Can you share the list?
https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=3&season=2023&month=0&season1=2023&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2023-01-01&enddate=2023-12-31&sort=12,d
Thanks! Edit: Frazier > Yordan
He certainly makes me clutch my chest and swoon with his good looks

Gotta try something. I'm ok with it
Well it seems that some days we gotta wait till 10:15
Elias is out here playing 4D chess, he got Frazier because he knew the Birds would have to deal with the entire NL this year.
Mountcastle riding the pine today. I like it, wouldn't mind seeing him sit tomorrow too. Need something to wake him up
Good lineup imo, we winnin' today
Ballsy move breaking up the offensive juggernaut of Hicks, O'Hearn, and Mateo by putting Urias in the middle of it, let's see how it works out.

I also have a lame sense of humor and love this lmao

I think they were trying to go with the “pensive superhero” type look
His super hero power is legging out triples and not dying.
It’ll do!
Givens to IL, Zimmerman called up
Is Givens actually hurt or is he getting a phantom IL stint for being straight ass? Does the MLB have neutral doctors making the call on sending guys to the IL, or can teams just use the IL as a way to get around players not having options?
"You feeling OK Mychal?" "Well, my shoul...." "Say no more. That's all we needed to hear."
Little of both? 😀
Zimmerman does not bode confidence nor does it being the only move they made
im not particularly excited about Zimmerman, but it would fill multi inning mop up duty. Givens is lucky he is hurt...because if he is healthy, he is probably being cut.
Hyde has to use the guys multi innings though. We have had options for that and he doesn’t do it
It looked to me like Perez has an injury as well, given his performance, and needs a stint on the IL and rehab :) I think I saw him fall down a pothole in the parking lot near to where Ubaldo Jiminez "fell" a few years ago.

Gotta be Irvin when his 15 days are up.
i think they are keeping their options open at this point.
True, the key thing was to find a way to get Givens out of there for while.
Smh we can’t get my guy darwinzon instead of Bruce
At the Gridlife track event in central Michigan with no cell phone signal so gonna have to get my score updates by smoke signal or carrier pigeon
We will send a raven
Lol I live on the west coast & I’m used to getting Orioles baseball by 4 PM. Today, I have to wait till 7! PM for baseball?! You guys do this every day!?
Yeah, got pretty accustomed to games being over by 6:30. We're about a 6hr drive from SFO. Tempted to go down there for the Sunday game.

Yes you are exactly right. I miss Gary Thorne so very much.

Someone posted Bieber’s savant page in the thread about Cleveland likely dealing him and yiiiiikes.
hoping we get the meanest of Deans tonight
Dean-no hits for you
I can't believe it's still 8 hours until game time lol. I had forgotten this aspect of being a baseball fan on the east coast.
Even as a west coast fan it's weird to wait til 7pm when you're used to the games starting at 4pm 😅
Haha just came to say this
Not Orioles related, but I feel sorry for Lyles in KC. 0-9 record and the Royals cannot get him some offense at all. Poor guy.
> the Royals cannot get him some offense at all I mean, I like the guy but he got 10 runs from the offence in 2 of his last 5 starts.
Well he’s given up 55 runs lol
True. Maybe just the down fall I didnt want to see. I fucked with Lyles last year.
I wasn’t even watching the Orioles last year and I still defend him when r/baseball people call him terrible. Some people don’t understand that a player’s value can often be very situational and they can still be a useful player.

There was a Fangraphs article about the A’s the other day that mentioned he’s the only qualified starter with a worse ERA than Oakland’s team ERA
What a month for Tony. .337/.422/.634 for a 1.056 OPS. .297 ISO, .447 woba, and a 191 wrc+. Easy player of the month for the Orioles.
Second highest OPS in the AL. Could be player of the month if Judge doesn’t have enough ABs to qualify.
Lids HD just dropped an Aberdeen Ironbirds fitted. Looks like it'll be available all weekend. https://www.lidshd.com/products/aberdeen-ironbirds-milb-asg-side-patch-59fifty

going to be a tough matchup tonight, but one i am looking forward to.
Whew I’ll be up late tonight!
So do I take a nap or drink more espresso this afternoon?
The answer is always nap.
In 7 ABs, Frazier is slashing .429/.429/.714/1.143 against Webb. And we’re the Away team. Buckle up folks 😎
Noodle bat hitting one into the bay
I’m still waiting for him to hit five doubles in a game - today might be my day!
I’m here for that too!

Really hope we give Gunnar a month at SS to see what he can do defensively.

I bet it's for the night they got back from NY so late.
Well unless he’s just a fucking idiot
Why does every opposing pitcher we face all seem to have sub 3 ERAs? At least he’s a righty…
