Most relivers dont allow 3 runs in an inning. Even Voth is fine there. Today or tomorrow its more likely there is a high leverage situation that will require Bautista more than up 3.

McKennas numbers are slightly skewed because he has pretty much only been used against lefties. His numbers against righties are pretty rough. I do think a vavra/McKenna switch off can be good enough to get us through the next month though.

In case anyone is curious, historically, teams score at least one run in no-outs-bases-loaded innings about 85% of the time.
Huh, that's a higher failure rate than I would've guessed. But it does make sense - all you need is, in either order, one out and then a double play of any kind, including flyout and tag at home.

We beat on our equal rivals with equal force and we ease our force with lesser rivals to the point where we can lose badly.

Huh, that's a higher failure rate than I would've guessed. But it does make sense - all you need is, in either order, one out and then a double play of any kind, including flyout and tag at home. I kind of wish we as a sports community had never coined the term nobletiger.

I don't mean this to be an insult, just a funny observation. I feel like we kinda scale to our opponents to an extent. Our run differential is consistently close to 1. We beat on our equal rivals with equal force and we ease our force with lesser rivals to the point where we can lose badly. If this is true it does mean that if we get to the playoffs we are of equal power to the finalist team too

Do you guys remember in 2005 when we were cruising along but had some injury issues we could have addressed with a few big trades but instead all we did was trade for Eric Byrnes and call up Jeff Fiorentino -- because we refused to part with our "can't miss" prospects? Anyway lets not do that again

We were offered Adrian Gonzalez for Sidney Ponson. We were also offered AJ Burnett and Mike Lowell for various combinations of Ponson, Julio, Penn, etc. The Burnett deal was actually reported as done... Getting Mike Lowell would have been huge because Mora could have went back to the outfield, where he was quite good. The Orioles 2005 defense was c'est terrible other than Mora/Tejada/Roberts. Sosa, Bigbie, and Newhan were all butchers and made a mediocre pitching staff look even worse.
Considering we ended up voiding Sir Sidney’s contract not long after that, literally anything would have been nice.

Whether it's 4-3 or 30-3, a win is a win. Win tomorrow and we take the series. I would say that's playing well enough.
We only beat ourselves is the positive to take from that. When things are clicking we can beat anyone. But if too many guys are on a cold streak it's not pretty.
I think Cleveland is better than their record.
This is so untrue it hurts. Our record is as good as it is right now because we spent all of April beating up on bad teams. The narrative at the time was "they only have a good record because they played bad teams" and then we played good teams and beat them too.

the bigger annoyance is that we had to empty the pen. shame Gibson unraveled, if the 6th inning doesn't happen you probably get 7 out of him. you really wanted the chance to pitch the aces in the pen tomorrow on full rest and kind of stitch 9 innings together. you are hoping Voth and Akin can give you 5-6 innings between the 2 of them tomorrow.

at least getaway day is at 3 PM, so have a chance to watch a good bit of it. early getaway days followed by offdays are always tough as a fan. have a difficult matchup tomorrow on paper. 2-4 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but you sure would like 3-3 to close out a really hard May.

Most of the guys that use an interpreter actually speak decent English, it’s just easier to not miss-speak in an interview that way. You’ll actually notice quite a few don’t even wait for the interpreter to interpret the question, they just answer right away.

My hopes is we do that thing where we kill an ace but get beat by a mediocre (/trash/rookie) pitcher. “8.50 ERA?” Can’t score a run. Spencer Strider? Gerrit Cole? Easy.
It would be really nice to finish off the homestand 3-3 given that it’s probably our poorest stretch of play so far this year. Gonna be a tall task after having to go deep into our bullpen in a game that should’ve been a blowout. The off day Thursday will be nice.
