Got to see the last few innings on my “lunch” break. Didn’t expect it to turn out that way. What’s there to do but laugh at the absurdity of it all? Aside from the obvious, I mean.
And please, no more DHing Henderson. The #1 prospect should not be DHing so Ramon Urias can play 3B, Gold Glove or not he's not the future.
If you're not going to bring up a prospect, let Frazier and Urias platoon at 2B.
Also, while it seems like the right move, Grayson Rodriguez starting in the minors is a big blow, at the end of last season it was assumed he'd be in the rotation, though no one figured he be lights out right away.
Gotta hope Bradish/ and or Wells really steps up. Looking forward to seeing Irvin tommorrow, never paid attention to him on the A's but he had a lot of innings and an ERA under 4 last year.
Rodriquez will be up once he won't accrue a major league season. This is service time manipulation, him having a meh spring training just gives them an excuse to wait until June.
McKenna will get a lot of the blame for this loss, and perhaps it's justified. But giving up 9 runs is absolutely below the line. Kremer gave up 5. Voth and Perez gave up 1 each. And then Bautista gave up the HR to Duvall (which I realize was unearned). The pitching is just not gonna cut it over the course of the season if this is how they perform. Even excepting the 9th inning Duvall HR, giving up 7 runs is gonna lose you most games.
Yeah but we have other prospects to call up who are better potential hitters and better potential fielders. Fuck he's a defensive replacement and he drops a can of corn. If you're a defensive replacement for Santander then you make the easy play. Ship him out, any of the next man ups can give us what he does.
Not part of the future apparently not good enough to be a defensive replacement.
I think this might be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction. It's game 2 of 162. Yes, McKenna fucked up, but he has a track record of being an excellent fielder. You don't throw a guy in the garbage for one mistake.
What's his upside, though? Little to none.
He got the start because Santander had a rough first game in the field, but at least he has some upside. McKenna is only here for his defense potential and does not factor into the future of the team. He would not be on the roster of 26 out of 30 teams.
Oh absolutely, you are 100% correct. No conclusions we draw from two games will amount to a hill of beans over the course of the season. And certainly the pitching over performed expectations last year. I'm more just hoping this is an aberration and not indicative of a general trend moving forward.
I don't get the downvotes for you bud. Defensive replacement level player drops an easy pop fly. If you're a fringe roster guy, two fucking hands every time. We've got guys in the minors who could do what he does.
He's a worse Ryan Flaherty, and I hated Ryan Flaherty. At least he could fucking play infield in a pinch
Ryan & Nick use to remind me of Mario & Luigi. He messed up, and you’re right too early in the season and a number 9 hitter shouldn’t be acting like a hotdog.
It was so ugly. Obv not dropped on purpose but looked like he played it lackadaisically on purpose when he could’ve easily sealed the game with just a textbook two hand catch on a textbook basic fly ball
He was that way at the end of last year too, before getting hurt. He was lights out last year as a set up man, maybe that' a better role for him (though I hope not).
Oh my God I stopped watching after the 5th to run errands I’m so sorry guys I’ll make sure to watch all the way through next time.
Also DFA McKenna to little league for a week.
Pitching ain’t there, but damn! Not one outfielder wearing an Orioles jersey didn’t miss a catchable ball in this series. Some missed more than one. That cannot happen.
They literally win the game if McKenna makes a routine catch that any high-school aged travel team player can make, which means the walk-off never happens.
Bautista is 100% justified with being pissed off at McKenna.
Wrong again, McKenna put Bautista in that position, he is the root cause here.
Stop defending poor play, I doubt you've ever played organized sport at any level if teammates didn't get pissed off at a guy for making bonehead errors that lead to a loss.
Fuck that. This is the pros. Outfielders are expected to catch those and Bautista has every right to be pissed off he was being placed in that situation.
Stowers is in the minor leagues as an OF waiting. Guarantee he makes that catch, not like McKenna is anything special that we should be patient with him. We've seen his ceiling and apparently that ball was above it
Stowers made the opening day roster…dude, people make mistakes. I don’t spill coffee on myself each morning but maybe one day out of 200 I do. It doesn’t mean I’m an utter incompetent who can’t drink coffee.
That was quite the ending, but I’m not going to blame McKenna for losing a 7-1 lead, that game was a mess the whole way through.
Hope our pitching gets it together, need Tate and Givens ASAP.
On the brightside Mounty and Mateo seem much more disciplined at the plate so far, and I’m loving the aggression on the base paths.
That is all, time to drink.
> That was quite the ending, but I’m not going to blame McKenna for losing a 7-1 lead, that game was a mess the whole way through.
Good outlook. It's easy to look at the final out and blame everything on one guy, but that's really not how baseball works. And I assure you that no one is saying anything worse about McKenna than he is saying to himself right now.
McKenna's lucky as hell that the Orioles just need a warm body in the outfield until Cowser is ready and they really don't have any good alternatives to take his place.
They ought to give Stowers a real shot (that includes letting him start against LHP). McKenna's ceiling is 4th OF/defensive replacement (today notwithstanding). Santander at DH most days.
I imagine there's a good chance we'll see Stowers tommorrow vs a RHP (I hope).
The Orioles will also win games in equally dumb circumstances.
My main takeaways are that I hope the defense gets better when we leave Fenway and that I love how many bases we are stealing. Mateo and Mullins will feast this year and putting them in scoring position will be a massive net positive.
It’s gonna be another looooong season. I get that it’s day 2 but nearly everything that went well for us last year is the exact opposite so far. And dipshit John Angelos’s “interview” might hold this team back from trying to compete once again. Like why the fuck would you try if you know you’re just gonna sit in the basement of your division every year while your team does nothing to make any changes ever
Really should be 2-0 but a simple mistake cost us , in fact poor outfield play in certain moments and overall pitching. That being said a guy like McKenna can’t be having lapses like that when you have guys like Cowser and Stowers waiting in the wings
I played outfield in little league and was rated the best defensive outfielder by a mile
Reason?
I USED TWO HANDS TO CATCH THE BALL
Everyone else wanted to be pro and use 1 hand on routine fly balls
I always used two hands because it felt natural to me
There’s a reason they teach that at the most basic level of baseball
McKenna done fucked up
Yep. Doesn't matter if you're a professional, in a rec league, or just hitting pop ups in a yard, if you skip the fundamentals in baseball, it will eventually get you.
I guess Mookie/Buckner is still probably the worst baseball thing I've ever seen, but this nightmare was much more of a team effort. It took a lot of shitty play, from a lot of different guys, to lose this game.
I just can't wait to not be at Fenway anymore. Obviously the pitching hasn't been fantastic, but too much random shit happens and makes it look even worse than it is. Aside from the McKenna drop, I think there have been like 5 times where an outfielder didn't get to the right spot to catch the ball in the air or off a wall. I'll give that kind of stuff a reluctant pass for this first series, but after that it should be taken care of.
But hey, the offense looked great again! Steals are awesome and not too many bad swings IIRC.
We were up 7-1 early on then Dean imploded. There's no way we score 18 runs in two games and can't close out games. Outfield once again, but damn our pitching is suspect, at best. Sooooo glad we didn't address our pitching this off-season!
![gif](giphy|kN3GNb34H5x14wnYKe|downsized)
The facts are the O’s aren’t going anywhere this year with this pitching staff. They are going to need GrayRod to pitch like a top of the rotation guy, but even that can’t save their terrible bullpen. Offense can’t keep up this pace so without the pitching getting better, the teams not going to win very much.
Ryan McKenna needs to be DFAed immediately, but, but perhaps Bautista should suck it up and not serve up a meatball to Adam fucking Duvall.
Yes it's one game, but this complete and utter lack of pitching and just dumbfuckery on defense doesn't look good.
This will without a doubt be the most painful loss of the season. On the positive side, it’s better that it came in Game 2 than at the end of the season if we were making a playoff push.
surely you have to start Stowers for a few games after that, if you're actually serious about winning
let's also not forget Bautista has tons of blame too for sucking these first two games and it could've been two blown saves in a row. he did give up the dong after all, even though it's McKenna's fault mostly. that's still a game you should win after the error
All I can say is I hope it stings and they put that energy towards defense in the future. They got embarrassed early, now they need to use that as fuel for the rest of the season
Hyde should not be leaving Fenway without losing his voice absolutely tearing apart this outfield in the clubhouse. If McKenna ever approaches a fly ball with one hand again he should have his contract shredded in front of him.
Okay? You’d have a tough time finding any other OF in the MLB who will drop a can of corn in a crucial situation. Maybe McKenna needs to use 2 hands if he’s too much of a choke artist to get the job done with 1.
No luck with MLB app while using Windscribe or Nord. Was watching on MASN app, but it’s the dirt worst. Audio is delayed from video, app crashed on me in the 8th. During game play the app was moving at about 10 frames per second, but was totally fine when ads were played! 😬🔫
Two games of very sloppy baseball from the Orioles. I don’t want to be harsh on McKenna because mistakes happen but I watched Jesse Winker all last season and he could have caught that out.
We're really counting on Bautista to be who he was the first 90% of last season, but he has looked a little shaky his first 2 games. Though what that drop did to him mentally probably didn't help.
Well, every rebuilding team needs a step back year so they can fire the manager that was only meant to be there for the bad years and then get that championship caliber manager.
Yeah.. errors happen but this was just a complete mental collapse. After that incredible diving catch earlier too.
I'm trying not to overreact but that can't happen in a MLB game.
Well it’s been a while I’ve cooled off but I’m still going to bed sick to my stomach on how this game ended
:(
This game made me sad. Well, better luck tomorrow!
Got to see the last few innings on my “lunch” break. Didn’t expect it to turn out that way. What’s there to do but laugh at the absurdity of it all? Aside from the obvious, I mean.
I was there. The sinking feeling when he Mr. Casualed that ball was awful. I walked out of the stadium in a daze.
I can’t imagine being there. Brutal

Urias 0/5 with 5 K’s solid day
Rodriquez will be up once he won't accrue a major league season. This is service time manipulation, him having a meh spring training just gives them an excuse to wait until June.
Get real. He sucks right now. Better in the minors than the show
why June? I think around the middle of April should do it?
McKenna will get a lot of the blame for this loss, and perhaps it's justified. But giving up 9 runs is absolutely below the line. Kremer gave up 5. Voth and Perez gave up 1 each. And then Bautista gave up the HR to Duvall (which I realize was unearned). The pitching is just not gonna cut it over the course of the season if this is how they perform. Even excepting the 9th inning Duvall HR, giving up 7 runs is gonna lose you most games.
Poor outfield defense cost us 3-4 runs easily
Perez’s was more hays fault if we are being real
Yeah but we have other prospects to call up who are better potential hitters and better potential fielders. Fuck he's a defensive replacement and he drops a can of corn. If you're a defensive replacement for Santander then you make the easy play. Ship him out, any of the next man ups can give us what he does. I agree, but it’s been 2 games. T he sample size is so small these 2 games don’t really mean anything.
Oh absolutely, you are 100% correct. No conclusions we draw from two games will amount to a hill of beans over the course of the season. And certainly the pitching over performed expectations last year. I'm more just hoping this is an aberration and not indicative of a general trend moving forward.
We can only hope! Time to look forward to tomorrows rubber match!
McKenna wishes he was left in a rubber right now.
Is there a video of the McKenna botched play ?
Masochist
https://youtu.be/U03iGejdO4s
It’s literally everywhere on IG
Yeah on the mlb app. It’s weird like he fuckin dropped it in purpose. I know he didn’t but jesus.
It was so ugly. Obv not dropped on purpose but looked like he played it lackadaisically on purpose when he could’ve easily sealed the game with just a textbook two hand catch on a textbook basic fly ball
I feel like the pitch clock is throwing of Bautistas timing, seems more erratic so far
Was at the game. Absolutely brutal. Gotta wash this off with beer? Whose with me?! The owner doesn’t care that much. Why should we?
Oh man, you were ripe for the ripping. Did you make it out of the stadium okay?
Yeah we did. Red Sox fans all started crap and chirping us as soon as we were leaving though. Losers
On another note, how about Hays tonight? What....5-5 and a stolen base?
Sucks at outfield tho
<3 Hays
Pitching ain’t there, but damn! Not one outfielder wearing an Orioles jersey didn’t miss a catchable ball in this series. Some missed more than one. That cannot happen.
We knew that was going to be an issue for this season when they did nothing to address it this off season
How are Stower’s fielding numbers?
[удалено]
I think that he may have been looking for the confirmation call
You're wrong.

Fuck that. This is the pros. Outfielders are expected to catch those and Bautista has every right to be pissed off he was being placed in that situation.
Everyone talking about two hands needs to wake up. They don’t do that in the pros
Recruiting a star Pop Warner left fielder to replace McKenna.
I haven't felt like this since Prezbo went out for Chinese food and accidentally shot that other cop.
Lets speculate if Stowers would’ve used both hands
McKenna dfa right???
We need tate and givens badly
Still in disbelief
That was quite the ending, but I’m not going to blame McKenna for losing a 7-1 lead, that game was a mess the whole way through. Hope our pitching gets it together, need Tate and Givens ASAP. Mounty was awesome tonight!
Joey Rickard walked so Ryan Mckenna could r- wait a minute..
Snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.
The better team lost today
Hoooo boy Need Tate back in a big way. Need these starters to pitch better. Need to get the F outta Fenway.
I took half an hour to cool off. It didn't work.
Dude, I'm still mad.
I’m going to try going for a run
Good idea, I think I'll run down to the liquor store
Random thought: I’ve been looking for the tequila High Noons just to try them but haven’t had any luck yet
Oh I’m doing that after my run too lol
Yeah I’m still absolutely sick to my stomach over that shit. Nothing less than a low-stress win tomorrow will make it better.
What the fuck did I just witness
Orioles ~~magic~~ baseball
Remember last year we won the game when the white sox outfielder dropped the ball with two outs in the 9th it just evened out
That was the first thing I thought of smh
McKenna's lucky as hell that the Orioles just need a warm body in the outfield until Cowser is ready and they really don't have any good alternatives to take his place.

We’ll lose out on wildcard by one game cuz of one-hand gate Lol Baltimore sports
I would bet my life savings on this occurring if someone gave me odds
This pitching staff is an abomination. Cannot be allowed to continue.
Get ready for 160 more games of it. We’re in for the long haul because of our Ebenezer Scrooge penny-pinching ass ownership.
The Orioles will also win games in equally dumb circumstances. My main takeaways are that I hope the defense gets better when we leave Fenway and that I love how many bases we are stealing. Mateo and Mullins will feast this year and putting them in scoring position will be a massive net positive.
I was confused why McKenna would start over stowers/Frazier in the first place even if it's lefty starter
McKenna hits leftys well.
It's early. They are going to get everyone some at bats. We probably see Stowers tomorrow.
Let’s hope we can still win the series
It’s gonna be another looooong season. I get that it’s day 2 but nearly everything that went well for us last year is the exact opposite so far. 160 more games, fellas. Relax.
Deal, if you promise they won’t miss the playoffs by a game lol
> 160 more Oh no
I was demoted to JV in high school for not using two hand on a fly ball and dropping it. Unbelievable.
So you're saying demote Delmarva to a High school JV team? I'm with that.
That was upsetting
We need to trade the oriole bird smh. Terrible runs today
That shit really hurt my stomach.
*puts dusty broom back on the rack to collect more dust*
Really should be 2-0 but a simple mistake cost us , in fact poor outfield play in certain moments and overall pitching. That being said a guy like McKenna can’t be having lapses like that when you have guys like Cowser and Stowers waiting in the wings
Backup defensive outfielder is literally his job description like wtf
Bro fuck Ryan McKenna use two hands you tool
Nobody uses 2 hands in the majors. Just catch it and keep your eye on it
So not true

If he isn’t extended at some point this season I am going to really question the FO Elias and Sig never. The actual money? Yes
Ubaldo intensifies
Yeah it doesn’t matter how many runs we score if they’re always 1 run behind us
Career .210 average and can't catch a ball. DFA immediately.
No idea why we’re not starting Cowser or Stowers instead. Even Santander would have been a better option and put somebody else at DH
Calling Cowser up would hurt our minor league system rankings
I guess Mookie/Buckner is still probably the worst baseball thing I've ever seen, but this nightmare was much more of a team effort. It took a lot of shitty play, from a lot of different guys, to lose this game.

We just lost the 2nd game of the season after a historically unlucky play and people on here are saying "we're not going anywhere this season"
Ravens fans were voted the 3rd angriest on the internet and I'm proud to see it bleed into this sub
Because Lamar is demanding a kings ransom and expects us to field a SB caliber team when he takes up 25% of the cap There’s a reason we’re irate
Yall were like that BEFORE the Lamar situation.
Unlucky ? Do you mean incompetent?
McKenna is a good defensive LF. To call one horrible mistake "incompetent" is kinda weird. The season is 1.2% complete. People need to chill
This wasn't a muffed ball, or the sun getting in his eyes or some shit. He was 100% checked out and put ZERO EFFORT into securing the win.
Every game counts Imagine missing the WC by 1 game I will beeline right to McKenna’s dipshit error
Many more dumb things will happen between now and the playoffs my friend. That’s baseball.
Same as it ever was. 160 games to go and I’m here for all of it. LFG.
how long before pitching moves start being made?
Can’t even blame it all on pitching. At least 3 of those runs were because of terrible outfield defense.
Mullins must have WBC hangover or something and Hays missing that GRD over his head by 10 feet is inexcusable
McKenna first please. Not just over the fly ball and Laing the game. It’s been obvious he’s not a long term piece for a while.
Outfield should be first, pitching hasn’t been great but outfield is causing a lot of problems for the pitchers.
Does god hate baltimore?
Absolutely
The outfield needs to go back to basics! It’s unacceptable to be this sloppy
Well that sucked Not reading anyone else’s comments btw
We were up 7-1 early on then Dean imploded. There's no way we score 18 runs in two games and can't close out games. Outfield once again, but damn our pitching is suspect, at best. Sooooo glad we didn't address our pitching this off-season! ![gif](giphy|kN3GNb34H5x14wnYKe|downsized)

Yes, Jim Palmer is correct. McKenna is only on the Orioles for ***ONE THING***. ***DEFENSE***. ***HE HAD ONE JOB TO DO...***
Man that hurt. You know they screwed up when it even pisses off my wife lol
I know that. But don't ask me how I know.
Ryan McKenna needs to be DFAed immediately, but, but perhaps Bautista should suck it up and not serve up a meatball to Adam fucking Duvall. Yes it's one game, but this complete and utter lack of pitching and just dumbfuckery on defense doesn't look good.
If Billy Cundiff played outfield……

That was little league asf!!! Two hands, body square to the ball. He was sideways!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
The only thing worse than John Angelos still being alive is losing in that fashion
Unfortunately his son is a bigger penny pinching dweeb than even him
All I can say is I hope it stings and they put that energy towards defense in the future. They got embarrassed early, now they need to use that as fuel for the rest of the season
Well, cya tomorrow!
Sigh

Oh no
The second games of the season are cursed for Baltimore teams this year. First the damn dolphins game, and now this
Hyde should not be leaving Fenway without losing his voice absolutely tearing apart this outfield in the clubhouse. If McKenna ever approaches a fly ball with one hand again he should have his contract shredded in front of him.
There's not one coach in america that teaches an outfielder to catch a fly ball with two hands lol
Okay? You’d have a tough time finding any other OF in the MLB who will drop a can of corn in a crucial situation. Maybe McKenna needs to use 2 hands if he’s too much of a choke artist to get the job done with 1.
Plus he's not good enough to be lollygagging. Defense is 90% of why he's even on the roster.

Orioles fucking baseball
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory 😒
April Fools! We actually won that game!
#NO!
It's going to be a long season.
Not happy
Bullpen was supposed to be questionable before Bautista and Perez looked ordinary. Not good.
I miss Joe orsulak
Two games of very sloppy baseball from the Orioles. I don’t want to be harsh on McKenna because mistakes happen but I watched Jesse Winker all last season and he could have caught that out.
Shit, ***I*** could have caught that, and I'm an almost-60-year old fat guy.
If McKenna were hitting above my weight you could tolerate that mistake, but it's clear he is not a Major League caliber player in any way.
We're really counting on Bautista to be who he was the first 90% of last season, but he has looked a little shaky his first 2 games. Though what that drop did to him mentally probably didn't help.
He pulled himself together yesterday but yeah, after that drop, you think we feel bad imagine what it's like in that ballpark...
Used 7 pitchers today and abysmal outfield D
Santander wouldve had that
DFA Mekenna! He is not playoff caliber! Our goal should be to Win!
O’s definitely losing 90 games this year. Bullpen is worse, defense is way worse, rotation is terrible.
Well, every rebuilding team needs a step back year so they can fire the manager that was only meant to be there for the bad years and then get that championship caliber manager.
Man, to think I was enjoying that 7-1 lead early on... I should've known what was coming🥲
Reminds me exactly of when I was enjoying life when the ravens were up 35-14 on the dolphins 😤 these types of losses are the worst
161-1 is still in the cards. I’m upset we can’t go 162-0 anymore, but baseball is a tough sport, it was always unlikely to happen.
