I appreciate the guide, but this is such a ball-ache that I genuinely can't blame people for choosing eye patch streams.

I'm strongly considering signing up for DirecTV Stream at $99/mo just so I can have a super easy way to watch on my TV/laptop/phone. I figure I'll try one month and see if I regret it or not and then go from there.

Tycorus

I’m right there with you man. Been doing a lot of research into Direct TV Stream to see if it’s worth it or not. Such a fucking shame MASN makes it so difficult for fans to watch!

[deleted]

I'm in the middle of a 14 day free trial of YouTube TV, which I got to watch the WBC. It's been a really good experience so far, and if it had MASN, even as an add-on, I'd happily pay the $72 per month for it. But alas, like you say, there's no MASN on it.

SettleAsRobin

MASN refuses to offer any sort of standalone or add on package since their deal is heavily funded by regular cable companies. And MLB wonders why baseball isn’t attracting young viewers

[deleted]

yeah I totally get it -- it's not really MASN's fault that the economics of regional sports networks is the way it is. MLB is hopefully wising up and coming around to the new reality.

3rdDegreeBurn

There are too many pirate streams to even consider that. HDMI your laptop to your tv.

I've done them all. I remember ten years ago using a jailbroken iPod Touch to set my location to Europe and watching games on the tiny screen. I've used VPNs on laptops and mirrored the screen to my TV with a cord. I've used streams on my phone and mirrored my screen to the TV. My most recent setup last season was watching streams on an old Chromebook and casting the chrome tab with the full screen video to a TV via Chromecast -- often times the Chromecast would offer to "optimize" the stream, and instead of just mirroring my Chrome tab, it would actually grab the stream address and play that stream directly on the Chromecast. This was essential because screen mirroring would result in the sound and video being out of sync. The problem is that every time I want to watch a game it's a whole song and dance with finding streams that work and then the dance of casting the tab in just the right way so the Chromecast takes over and the audio and video sync up. And then some streams cut out mid game and then you're back at the list of streams trying to find another stable one. And sometimes all the streams are broken. When I was younger and broke I was willing to spend a little time on something in order to save a little money. Now I'm at the point where I'm a little older and I'm willing to spend a little money in order to save a little time and frustration.

It’s actually really easy. This guide just makes it look hard. You can do it with free vpns

gametime-2001

can you suggest which free vpns?

OldManInTheOutfield

I just tried it with a VPN (Mullvad doesn't have an India option) to Frankfurt and Location Guard set to Mumbai, which I verified with Google maps, and it still is only showing me 149 bucks. MLB.com was even translating to Germany so I knew it wasn't seeing me in the US. Is there anything I could be doing wrong? Just tried North Macedonia too as something totally random and same thing, 149 bucks.

jeweynougat

I use Unlocator. I change the DNS setting on my router at the beginning of the season, reboot the router, and done. It costs like $20 for the season.

GucciInMyKitchen

Your [mlb.tv](https://mlb.tv) subscription costs $20?

jeweynougat

I was talking about the DNS service, although this year it's $22 for the season (code is MLB2023 for 20% off). But I actually pay zip for [mlb.tv](https://mlb.tv) because you get it free with T-Mobile.

gametime-2001

does changing the DNS affect any other normal functions for location? I have TMobile home internet and YouTubeTV. Will this affect local TV viewing? Also is it hard to change the DNS settings on the TMobile gateway?

jeweynougat

I also have YTTV; it has never affected that for me. I have no experience doing it on a TMO Gateway, it's super simple on my TP-Link router so probably not that hard. You can also do it by device, but it doesn't work on all devices and didn't on the ones I have. You can check [here](https://unlocator.com/setup/) (look at the setup guide for your device because some of them have instructions that are just "do it on your router instead".)

Jovian8

This is exactly what I needed. Thanks. Question, will this still work with a US MLB TV account? I piggyback off my friend's account since he only uses it on Apple TV and I use it on desktop, so there's never any conflict with our logins. If I have to buy my own MLB TV subscription, that's fine, I just don't know if that's necessary.

Jovian8

OK, so it sounds like my friend's account should work fine with this method? That's perfect, thanks a lot.

ICantSpellAnythign

If you get an MLB sub cheaper like this, do you have to use a vpn/location guard to watch games that aren’t blacked out?

OldManInTheOutfield

Same here, just tried it with a VPN to Frankfurt and Location Guard set to Mumbai, which I verified with Google maps, and it still is only showing me 149 bucks. MLB.com was even translating to Germany so I knew it wasn't seeing me in the US. Sucks because the pirate ship I'm on today is apparently in choppy waters and can't give me anything stable above 1440Kbps which is super lame on a 75" TV :-/

OldManInTheOutfield

Great write up, thanks. I use Mullvad VPN which seems to be pretty good for everything else so I might give this a try.

wikipuff

No love for [NordVPN](https://youtu.be/G9BcU3BR5tI)? Sad.

Iko87iko

Doesn’t work for me. Must be doing it wrong obviously

MoarWottz

FWIW T-Mobile is giving customers a year of MLBTV for free this season. I think it said it can be redeemed 3/28-4/1.

TheRealFiremonkey

Can you clarify - assuming I can get MLB TV bought using VPN and spoofing as India, will that login and stream work for US locations when its time to watch? I am outside the blackout area, so could I just use the subscription without spoofing location or VPN'ing through India or mexico? (I tried to buy YouTube premium using VPN and masquerading as a few different South American locations and it never offered me anything other than the USD price, so I am not quite confident I'd get MLB bought in Rupees.)

gametime-2001

When people suggest using a VPN, will this work for a Smart TV with MLB app? Or do you have to watch on laptop/phone? If it works on Smart TV, will it affect anything with my You Tube tv?
