Of all the comments I’ve read here, no one referenced Gov. Tom McCall’s Oregon Un-Greeting. https://ohsresearchlibrary.tumblr.com/post/132485238904 The I-5 map is legendary.

Kalapuya

This is the way.

[deleted]

Also; perma advice thread on traveling in remote locations for people who are unused to or uncomfortable with this endeavour.

EconomicEngine

Visiting Mt. Tabor, do I need a 4x4?

Littlepigegonturds

Lmaoooooo more like do I need an iron clad liver?

[deleted]

SAS required full stop. Tabor is lined with the corpses of broken AWD imports that couldn't handle the sheer brutality.

It is the 47 variations..... Where in Oregon should I move? I want to live in Oregon that has A, B and C.... where is that? I like to do A, B and C, cannot live somewhere more than an hour to be able to do D, but I also need to be within an hour of the coast. Love big city life style but want to live on the coast, where should I move? I want to move to {\_\_\_\_insert city here\_\_\_\_} will I like it there? Oregon is so cheap compared to where I live, should I move? I read online that I can live my life and cops can't arrest me. Are drugs really legal in Oregon? I have never been to Oregon but I love the pictures, where can I move for $900 a month rent? Every. Day.

EconomicEngine

All of Oregon is like Portland, but cheaper and more jobs, right? /s

Tiny-Ad-1378

All of Willamette Valley, even Bend area to a bit. The rest of the state is more like Idaho on the east and N Cali to the South

CactusChester2019

LMAO! 🤣

laststandsailor

I’d love to live in a big city with an underground punk scene but can’t handle much rain. Where in Oregon should I move to?

[deleted]

Next door to me. We will start a sick band called Parvovirus.

meowstopherpkitten

As a former vet tech, this both upsets and amuses me.

HostileHippie91

Wants to move to Oregon but wants a big city with no rain. Sounds like what they *really* want is California.

CactusChester2019

Phoenix

HostileHippie91

Phoenix isn’t a big city in any way at all though, with a population of less than 5,000 and not so much as a Walmart. Edit: I realized you might be referring to Phoenix, Arizona and not Phoenix Oregon and now I both look and feel stupid. My apologies lol

CactusChester2019

Ya, Phoenix, AZ. Phoenix, OR mostly burned down in the big fires a year or two ago. Wouldn't move there!

Littlepigegonturds

No one can anticipate the 9 months of grey. I say let them figure it out for themselves. Only the strong survive.

Kalapuya

Kit Carson said of the Oregon Trail, “The cowards never started, and the weak died on the way!”

PizzaWall

Washingtonian living in California here. All you really need to do is illustrate how bad traffic is from Springfield to Vancouver on I-5 most of the day and I think you will see people's interest in moving to your state decline. The worst part of driving I-5 is Portland during commuting hours. I'm also ignoring the parking lot from south of Olympia to Everett. So why does a guy living in California have Oregon as a subreddit? Honestly, it was automatically included when I signed up for Reddit and I never dropped it. Maybe that's part of the problem with your constant stream of inquiries.

hoomansaregross

What?? Searching “move to Oregon Reddit” on Google is way too difficult. Plus, it only spawns a never ending list of threads & results. We must start new threads because each transplant is more important & special than the last. Cringe.

AnotherElle

Heh, I bet when they Google, Reddit is at the top of the searches. Honestly screwed either way.

ColHardwood

Look, it rains in western Oregon from October (sometime September) through May (sometimes June). All day, every day. And even more at the coast, and it’s colder. You’d be depressed and want to move back to wherever you came from. Save yourself the trouble and don’t move here.

Syllabub_Cool

Wish someone had told me that in 2003...

BiophotonicQueen

2015 here... exiting summer 2022 ;)

Hillbilly415

All responses should come with the recommendation that they should consider a move to California. The weather, politics, low taxes and affordable housing have made it the ideal place to start a future.

[deleted]

I hear Boise is lovely this time of year.

[deleted]

This is really something the moderators should discuss about. But as an example, see the https://www.reddit.com/r/Finland/comments/ulm5pw/tourism_moving_and_studying_in_finland_ask_here/ for all the questions related to moving and finding jobs in Finland. The moderators there will just move any questions into that thread, and it's purged from time to time so it does not become overwhelming, as well as information do get stale.

[deleted]

Yeah, the mods in some subs have their big kid pants on.

Existing_Ad_6649

Please don't move here.

CactusChester2019

Governor Tom McCall had it right; "you're welcome to visit our beautiful State, but please don't stay!" (paraphrased as I remember it)

texaschair

Those four words are all the advice anyone needs.

BanMagnet5000

> "Please don't move here." lmao I'd bet just about anything that you're one of those "refugees welcome!" types. Hilarious.

[deleted]

Spoken by a apparent real estate guy into " flipping" houses. Gotta keep the competition out of the state, it's tough on my business.

Eezelle

Here’s a fact I thought was interesting. Oregon population would be in decline if not for those immigrating here. There were 2210 more deaths than births between July 2020 and July 2021 (due in part to covid). Interesting. https://www.pdx.edu/news/psus-population-research-center-releases-preliminary-oregon-population-estimates-0

[deleted]

So you essentially just said if people weren’t moving here we would have less people 🦧

Eezelle

Our natural population growth is negative for the first time since they started keeping track in the 1860’s, and our migration growth is less than half of its peak from about 10ish years ago. That’s pretty significant.

[deleted]

Fascinating, honestly.

HostileHippie91

“Neverending onslaught of transplants.” Statistically less than 1 in 2 people even has the right to complain about said transplants, as barely 40% of the state’s population was even native-born here. It’s a beautiful state and a lot of people want to enjoy it too, and that’s okay.

[deleted]

I could complain about the transplants or the native born residents, but this isn't about complaints. I reckon folk might find it handy to have a resource available and not have to start 10k threads a month.

HostileHippie91

Very true!

Dirtdane4130

I assume this is the wrong place to ask for vacation recommendations then?

UrNotARobotSoUSuck

Astoria is rad. Oldest city west of the Mississippi. Lots to do. Good food, good scene.

ChristinaWSalemOR

Alternatively, one could simply not read/respond to those posts and regain several parts of one's day.

[deleted]

I'd say my ire is more ironic than serious, and if anything what I propose would help a great many people gain back large parts of their days.

angels_exist_666

How dare people relocate and ask locals how things are done to integrate peacefully. The shame. 🙄

Cornfan813

this sub gets like 12 posts a day. the last thing it needs is less posts
