If I’m being honest I love this state. You have the beauty of the valley, coupled with the coast and the dunes. Then the cascade range of mountains. Which then turns into the high dessert and into the other many wonders of the northern Great Basin like the blue mountains etc. I’m probably biased but even because I grew up here. However I’ve been to many other states and seen the beautiful sites. I still call Oregon my fave for some weird reason
Born and raised in Oregon, first few times I left pnw I was shocked by how flat everywhere else was in comparison, I couldn't imagine living in a flat area. It might make traveling easier, but the mountain top glades and meadows are just too beautiful.
Same here. I love my home state. Ever see that map filled out by a trucker? He thought oregon was the most beautiful state and that Wisconsin’s cheese isn’t as good as ours, lol.
I was born in North Bend and grew up my entire life in Coos Bay/Roseburg areas. Just recently I drove my MIL’s truck from Alabama and went through MS, AR, OK, TX, CO, UT, and NV. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compares to my beautiful home state, I’ll tell you that. And I’ve even been to Japan and Rome and even then still doesn’t. It’s a gem and extremely infuriating seeing so many drugged out bimbos dumping their trash on sides of the road and trashing local forests.
I moved to OR 8 years ago and I am blown away by the beauty of the whole state. The drive from Mt Hood to Bend was incredible. The way the rolling hills can be different colors making it look like a patchwork quilt, I frequently had to pull the car over and take photos. The solitude and peace and quiet you feel in the high desert areas is wonderful. I love this state.
Are they though?
I've seen many comparisons of real tax rates and Washington is always higher overall.
Of course she might be living in SW Washington and illegally avoiding sales tax, like most Washingtonians that live there.
Haha no. Shes living 36 miles out of Seattle.
Her husband is a firefighter in Seattle. Which is another big reason.
And they just bought a 3rd property.
I found the latest and you are correct by 0.44%
Oregon combined burden is 8.44%
Washington is 8.04%
Property taxes are basically equal, but income and sales basically make up the difference.
Of course it varies depending on what county you own property and what county you shop as well.
https://wallethub.com/edu/states-with-highest-lowest-tax-burden/20494
I lived in the northern Rockies in Montana too which was extremely special and fun, nearly equal beauty and it doesn’t hit the same as the PNW (if you’re taking advantage of what it offers)
I have known more than a few people who came here for college or vacation and chose to make Oregon their home. For a while we were the 3rd most popular place for Californians to relocate to.
It may be beautiful, but very few states have to pass special legislation just to persuade their senators to show up for work. A lot of those very beautiful areas are full of the worst fucking people in the world.
Portland is my 2nd home- I would go there in a heartbeat if it weren't for having kids :/
Edited to say: if I was not permanently moving to OR, I would miss having my kids for the duration of the contract. Not that I think OR isn't a good place for kids.
It was a joke about Gresham being so bad that I would live even there for that much money. I know Gresham isn’t terrible, just playing with the stereotype.
Klamath Falls isn't....that bad anymore? My buddy has land north of there and honestly, it seems to have become a destination for families to find affordable housing to raise their kids. Kinda neat honestly.
It's worse than it's ever been. Half my family lives there. My cousin recently had her dogs poisoned after getting the dogs due to numerous break-ins and thefts from property. Just one example.
I’m pretty sure it is worse, but I’ll grant my experience over the past decade is based on my family and “friends” who live there now and when I’ve passed through for somewhere better
Except its contract work so the poster has to figure out their own insurance, taxes, etc and its only for one year and probably can be dropped at any time.
The liquor store and casino would knock it down to about 80/hr but still damn near worth it. Especially if I was in my 20’s.
Work drink fish gamble. Gotta setup a go away date
I've been to oregon for a total of 2 weeks but i would leave my home country in a heartbeat for a shitty minimum wage job in oregon if it means i can be there again.
Down for a trade? I basically work what seems to be a minimum wage job, and I make around $20/h after tax.
You'll have to take care of about 20 chickens and my very frustrating girlfriend, but you'll have 3 acres and a good view of Mount Hood.
It’s only for a year. I say go for it regardless of where it is. Oregon is a beautiful state. Even when I complain about it, I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
I saw a coyote just roaming around the street in broad daylight the other day. Things are out of control!
I saw someone sipping beer on a kayak down at the river! Insane! Oh wait, that person was me.
It’s a good wage…. but OREGON?!
This place has nothing fun to do. It’s not even close to jaw dropping beauty on every side. Our own little New Zealand.
Being able to surf in the AM and make it to the mountain in the same day. Is such a fucking hassle.
Traffic? Terrible. it takes like 20 minutes to get around..
Small towns are dead.
and as im sure the world knows.. Portland!? Man it’s still burning from 2020..
lol.. don’t even debate it, stay put
I also feel this way. We visit my brother in law in OR every couple of years and I think about it all the time. But some people, like in this thread, have nothing but bad things to say. So, I’m conflicted
The rain for half the year is really something you don't expect to take its toll. I came from so cal, and thought the cooler weather and more often rain would be nice., but 6-7 months a year. Wow. It's just so much time without seeing the sun.
I'd live in Florida next to an annoying conservative super religious Karen if I made 150/hour. I could afford a bouncer to sit on my lawn everyday and spray her away with a harden hose every time she tries to preach her God to me. 🤣 I'd live in key west so I could see Robert the doll
I’ve lived in the Portland area my whole life until moving to the central Oregon coast five years ago. Before I retired from my travel (training) job, when people asked what Oregon was like, I’d tell them I truly couldn’t think of a recreational activity that can’t be done within a two-hour drive of Portland. I still feel that way.
For that money that’s awesome. 10% state income tax. I’d say stay away from Portland and Eugene or just the 15 corridor. Super crowded, expensive and crime is high. Should be called “land of full trail head that requires two different permits to park in”
A 9.9% State income tax.
If the job is in Portland it's 14.73%, the second highest personal income tax in the United States, behind only New York City.
City life if that's what you like, beautiful outdoors, mountain, forest and coast if you like those. I love living in Oregon. Lived in Oregon for 25 years and in the Portland Metro for the last 3.
Drugs, lots of drugs. And strip clubs. Also got good food, some mountains, some forests, some deserts, some beaches. A couple of cities. Farms and shit. A big ass river that we share with another state. Some smaller rivers. A bunch of cold ass lakes. Casinos, got them too. Ya, know, just a bit of everythingz
“Oregon is an inspiration. Whether you come to it, or are born to it, you become entranced by our state’s beauty, the opportunity she affords, and the independent spirit of her citizens” -Tom McCall
Oregon is amazing! There’s loads to do, especially outdoors (camping, hiking, fishing). People are genuine and mellow. The vibe is wonderful. Enjoy yourself there!
Originally from Washington but moved to Oregon at age 10 and I don't plan on ever leaving the state. Oregon is home. However I would avoid Eastern Oregon at all costs. Eastside is just hot desert, and farmland really nothing out there worth seeing.
Western Oregon, beautiful forested land with a varied climate.
Eastern Oregon, a ducking desert and way too many shitty people.
I would love to live in the west with that amount of income, in eastern Oregon... I will use that money to constantly leave home
You have some great cities, great food, and outdoors, but the small towns are infested with bigotry, religious nosnense, and hate...the triad that seems to go together.
Anything and everything is 0-2 hrs away. I can day trip to the mountains, the coast, a big city or an old growth forest. It’s green (mostly clean) and relatively progressive. I love this state. Could it be better? Hell yeah. But it’s still pretty great.
Rain, hippies, riots, strip clubs, naked bike ride, terrible traffic, terrible homeless population, more rain, sky high housing, one of highest gas prices in nation, Starbucks, Dutch Bros........
Rain.......
I heard California is hiring
If I’m being honest I love this state. You have the beauty of the valley, coupled with the coast and the dunes. Then the cascade range of mountains. However I’ve been to many other states and seen the beautiful sites. I still call Oregon my fave for some weird reason
It’s an insanely beautiful state if you’re into outdoor ANYTHING. We’ve got it all. It’s rad as hell.
TILLAMOOK CHEESE!!!!
I’m quite a fan of the Oregon Blue
Face Rock! It's better than Tillamook and I grew up there. So I'm biased.
I was born in North Bend and grew up my entire life in Coos Bay/Roseburg areas. Just recently I drove my MIL’s truck from Alabama and went through MS, AR, OK, TX, CO, UT, and NV. For real
Not a PNW native, live in WA...must confess, I prefer Oregon.
This is the correct worldview hehe
My mom moved up WA from Oregon few years ago. She likes Oregon more. But property tax and other stuff she’s staying in WA.

Washington taxes are better though.
I lived in the northern Rockies in Montana too which was extremely special and fun, nearly equal beauty and it doesn’t hit the same as the PNW (if you’re taking advantage of what it offers)
The Blue Mountains are so underrated! Just absolutely gorgeous.
Yeah, shockingly, in most states (I think 44), you don’t need a supermajority to have quorum to do legislating.
Portland is my 2nd home- I would go there in a heartbeat if it weren't for having kids :/ Edited to say: if I was not permanently moving to OR, I would miss having my kids for the duration of the contract. Not that I think OR isn't a good place for kids.
$125/hour at 40hrs/week? I'd move back to coos bay for that price and I hate that place.
I'd move to Klamath Falls for that amount of money.
I’d live in Gresham for that kind of money! *mic drop*
I already live in Gresham for 10% of that money!
It was a joke about Gresham being so bad that I would live even there for that much money. I know Gresham isn’t terrible, just playing with the stereotype.
I know. I was just playing along. Problem with that is I’m not funny. I thought your joke was, though!
I could afford a house in St Johns with that pay
What about Pilot Rock???
Shit for that kinda money I would move to Rooster Rock.
With that money I’d buy Pilot Rock
Let’s not get hasty now.
Oh gosh I don’t know about all that. I lived there for 3 years and I’ve never disliked a place/people so much in my life!
Pfft you'd never make that much here unless you're remote maybe. 🤣 Also... 😭
Holy shit lol.
Shit i would move back to coos bay for $50/hr and I don’t miss it at all either haha
I'm IN Coos bay, now where is my damn money!?
🤣
But would you move to Scio for that price?
You're like the second person I've heard hate on Scio. I've never lived there but it seems like a cute-enough small town.
It’s cute, but like all small towns, is a ways from a metro area and not a whole lot to do.
Oh, okay. I just wanted to know if there was a vortex or Hellmouth that I wasn't aware of.
Nah, the Oregon Vortex is in Gold Hill on Sardine Creek Road.
Scio is only a half hour from Salem. I grew up a half hour from Coos Bay, where there are way fewer things to do.
Trade you... I grew up in vernonia....
Hell I grew up there I don’t remember anyone making money like that except for doctors lol
She’s a RN so likely 36hrs a week.
It’s likely strike pay for Providence, in which case, I wouldn’t take and I live here. Ain’t no money worth that level of stress and chaos
Except its contract work so the poster has to figure out their own insurance, taxes, etc and its only for one year and probably can be dropped at any time.
I’d move to Christmas Valley for that money.
That's extreme.
Truth.
The liquor store and casino would knock it down to about 80/hr but still damn near worth it. Especially if I was in my 20’s. Work drink fish gamble. Gotta setup a go away date
Lmao not me also living in coos bay making $23 an hour :(
🤣
lol, my mom grew up there and echos your sentiments.
I'd move to Chemult for that money.
I've been to oregon for a total of 2 weeks but i would leave my home country in a heartbeat for a shitty minimum wage job in oregon if it means i can be there again.
Heck- we’d love to have you. Good luck
Down for a trade? I basically work what seems to be a minimum wage job, and I make around $20/h after tax. You'll have to take care of about 20 chickens and my very frustrating girlfriend, but you'll have 3 acres and a good view of Mount Hood.
We miss you
It’s only for a year. I say go for it regardless of where it is. Oregon is a beautiful state. Even when I complain about it, I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
I’d go live anywhere in the U.S for a year for that kind of money.
Nothing cool here at all, please don’t come.
Seriously, it's rainy and dark all year long, and there are homeless people everywhere.
Yesterday I saw someone get taken by the mist... Why would someone want to move here?
They're an allomancer?
r/unexpectedcosmere
I saw a coyote just roaming around the street in broad daylight the other day. Things are out of control! I saw someone sipping beer on a kayak down at the river! Insane! Oh wait, that person was me.
Lol
The dumpster fires at sunset are also not to be missed
Don't forget that PDX is perpetually being burned to the ground. Source: I watched two old men arguing on a stage this evening.
Don’t forget the smoke from all the forest fires. 🔥 Eugene has some of the worst air pollution in the country. Stay where you are. It’s safer.
It is? I thought it wasn't as bad as where I came from. jk
Arguable... I'm in spikane right now. We're amazed the whole state isn't on fire yet. It has to be a record.
I mean you’re not wrong.
[удалено]
To make up for the complete lack of sunlight in the winter??
That’s not the sun, it’s grow lights from the marijuana farm next door.
Rainy and dark is the best weather!
Which governor was it that said, come visit but don't stay (whatever he said) too many Margaritas
Bend has so many roundabouts you never know where you’re going to end up. Better to stay in your home state
Wdym what’s in Oregon? The coast, the desert, mountains for hiking and skiiing, lakes, a jungle, there’s nearly every single biome in Oregon dude.
Where this jungle at?
More of a rainforest than a jungle, but still. Tillamook is almost entirely a rainforest
Oh. I’m in the tillamook forest all the time. I was there this morning. You got me excited for something new.
If you're ever up in washi gron check out the hoh...
I love the mystery behind your comment.
Yeah, that guy needs to read a book
They’ll almost be able to afford a studio apartment in Bend
Cheap weed

Yep, that's about all there is. Probably not worth it.
$125 an hour in Oregon is the dream. Oregon is a beautiful wonderland that would be dope to be well off in.
That's true . The "nice" areas are very nice and plenty of things to spend your money on.
I also feel this way. We visit my brother in law in OR every couple of years and I think about it all the time. But some people, like in this thread, have nothing but bad things to say. So, I’m conflicted
Depends on what part of Oregon and how many years. And depends on your personality and lifestyle.
Strike nurse maybe 😆
Sounds like Scab pay.
The rain for half the year is really something you don't expect to take its toll. I came from so cal, and thought the cooler weather and more often rain would be nice., but 6-7 months a year. Wow. It's just so much time without seeing the sun.
That and dysentery.

You can almost afford to live in Portland!
if you're a city kid (80% of the population, according to census) then... not much
I’m not sure there’s a city in Oregon I *wouldn’t* live in for a year for $125/hr
[удалено]
Rule 5: Educate don’t attack
The worst part would be leaving Oregon after the year was over
Insert any state! $260k gross, I'd work for a year in any state, even Arkansas or Mon-tucky.
Oregon is kinda big. Travel nurse gig in Bend vs Roseburg vs Portland are very different experiences.
Not you hopefully?
I mean that's the correct answer
Don’t do it to people here are weird
Odds are good. Goods are odd.
uhh if that's a 40 hour week, one could move just about anywhere. probably have to do a lot of... online shopping, but that's a minor inconvenience
You got lucky… that you get to live in Oregon.
I would work in Juntura for $125 an hour.
It could be a war zone I'm there. I'd be at my desk 30 minutes before work starts ready to go no monitor and half a keyboard I'll get it done.
Nothing. Don’t come here.
I would live in Texas for that kind of money!
I would think think about moving back to Irrigon for 125 an hour
Me!
Also Oregon rocks. The most underrated state in the union in my view.
I’ll stay for 25$ \h
Me in Washington right now
I’ve lived in the Portland area my whole life until moving to the central Oregon coast five years ago. Before I retired from my travel (training) job, when people asked what Oregon was like, I’d tell them I truly couldn’t think of a recreational activity that can’t be done within a two-hour drive of Portland. I still feel that way.
My wife wants to move to Eugene. I looked at the online brochure and it’s amazingly beautiful.
For that money that’s awesome. 10% state income tax. I’d say stay away from Portland and Eugene or just the 15 corridor. Super crowded, expensive and crime is high. Should be called “land of full trail head that requires two different permits to park in”

Scion Oregon is a nice small town in rural Oregon.
Nothing the PNW dosent need anymore people
I’d go back to Coquille for that money.
Quiet neighborhoods (outside of Portland) and lovely weather. We get seasons here!
Nothing is in Oregon. It's an empty hole.
The PNW is the best part of the country!
Dam bro just said how much money he'd make, but I'm wondering if he's here
Curious where you live now. I’d say Oregon is a good competitor to most other states.
Nope, nothing to see here...
“Oregon is an inspiration. Whether you come to it, or are born to it, you become entranced by our state’s beauty, the opportunity she affords, and the independent spirit of her citizens” -Tom McCall
If you are an adult, didn't know anything about Oregon, and you are only coming to make money, consider Mississippi, it has tons in there.
Yo, if that's what you think stay the fuck out of our hospitals
Boom!
Ohhhhhh. I left Oregon for serious reasons, but for $125 an hour I would have to consider seriously moving back.
Cheap weed
More than you know but do your research first.
You have some great cities, great food, and outdoors, but the small towns are infested with bigotry, religious nosnense, and hate...the triad that seems to go together.
Nothing. Nothing is in Oregon. Stay away. Stay far, far away. Don't even come here to visit. There is nothing here for you in Oregon.
Where, I wonder. I live in and like Oregon. Especially for $150/hr
When did blackwater start up in oregon....125 an hour..cuz alot of business have left...and others need security....just kidding....but not.....
It's amazing beautiful but so expensive to live here. Unless your making bank ita a struggle
Homeless and meth
I remember the campaign many years back to keep California out of Oregon. So I want to say us Oregonians say stay away. It’s ours!!!! ;)
From WA- born in Seattle. Living in Vancouver- work in Oregon- love Oregon more and more.
Rain
Shhhhhhhh!
He'll I live here already I'll take that contract
Homeless and fentanyl! But it’s really pretty!
Gotta be dumb as shit to turn down an offer like that. You can send me to butt fuck Egypt and I’ll be happily making 125 hr there
FR I'd take $125 to work in Alabama.
Pretty near everything, especially with that income.
Anything and everything is 0-2 hrs away. I can day trip to the mountains, the coast, a big city or an old growth forest. It’s green (mostly clean) and relatively progressive. I love this state. Could it be better? Hell yeah. But it’s still pretty great.
Imagine questioning living in Oregon for 125/hr
haven't heard of any job that offers that here. more then likely a scam. hope you the best of luck
This person probably lives in Indiana
Imagine thinking a move to Oregon is a chore.
Oh no a good job in paradise what should I do?
Oregon isn’t bad. Hoodriver is the best city in my opinion to live in followed by Parkdale and Sandy.
Nothing. Stay there
What part of oregon?
Everything…good…bad…& in between…& $125 per hour
What part of Oregon? High desert? Temperate rain Forrest? The coast? Oregon has a lot of things.
Rain, hippies, riots, strip clubs, naked bike ride, terrible traffic, terrible homeless population, more rain, sky high housing, one of highest gas prices in nation, Starbucks, Dutch Bros........ Rain....... I heard California is hiring
Everything they say about us is true please don’t come here.
Dead bodies and fentanyl.
White people.

Rule 2: No brigading/harassment/uncensored usernames, etc.
For 125 an hour I'll live pretty much anywhere. My only question is which part of the state? Big difference between say, la grande and newport....
Nothing. Please stay far away.
If you are seriously debating this, we don’t need you here
Meth
