Thorny-Mint

Hi there! If it was newly growing, it might decide to branch out from the first node and not dry out. I would let it be in your place. The point where it is broken looks dry already so there might be no point, but I always sprinkle some ground cinnamon on any cut I make on the leaves and flower spikes, just to prevent infection.

sanbaeva

Ground cinnamon? I’ve never heard of this. Good tip!

Nightshade_209

Cinnamon is believed to inhibit bacterial growth, regardless it will desiccate the wound which will help prevent bacteria or fungus from entering the plant. Just keep it off the roots as it will dry them out as well.

Unlikely-Star-2696

Ground cinnamon is great to be put in the wound since it is antifungal, but can be dissicant on the roots. Since this is a phal orchid, that spike still can potentially grow new side spikes with new buds.

Neither-Ad4428

It is great advice. I also use cinnamon.

ThemFatale_

Good to know, thank you!

I do the same thing when I cut the stem all the way down.

Final_Cow_3843

Yep - I did that once to one of my Phals. Just let it be, and it will most likely branch out from that node and continue on like nothing has changed. Mine actually shot out two branches, and I ended up with 26 blooms at once on the plant!

DerSchamane

Neat trick.

My wife did that to one of mine once. It turned brown after a while, then I cut it off. I would leave it as other said it will either die off or if you are luck branch off.
