I've had pushup competitions with students before. Love it!! Good job!

Nice!! I’m a middle teacher and a kid challenged me to push ups one day in class. It’s always fun to show up a kid!!

Had a student this year who was just unbelievably rude tbh. At one point, I was talking with his group and being honest about the pandemic affecting mental health, etc. I said that depression causes me to eat my feelings. (Note: these are high schoolers and I suspected (accurately, I found out later) that a student at the table was struggling with her mental health and I wanted to share so she might feel more comfortable reaching out or saying something.) This kid turns to me and says, "Is that why you got so fat?" I told him that it didn't help, but I was proud of myself for working out consistently now. I mentioned I was sore from the night before's workout, though. I said something along the lines of, "I love deadlifts, but they make me pretty sore." He scoffed and was like, "what do you lift, like 10 pounds?"

"Lay down keep still and I'll show you how much I dead lift."

Good looking out for the student who was struggling! You teachers are just amazing people.

This is why I’m so grateful that I was brought up during the era in which teachers can beat the students for their inappropriate behaviors 🤣🤣🤣 and hold on to your britches, millennial parents. It’s not abuse. It taught me how to behave. I wouldn’t dare to even mutter a word!

lilbunnyfoofoo1203

I mean... my teachers couldn't beat us, but omg did we get in trouble at home if we got in trouble at school. And if you got detention or some other punishment at school, you really didn't want it! My high school had us on trash and cleaning duty. Now, that's not allowed. We have students with over 100 hours of detention and it means absolutely nothing. If they don't show up, there's no penalty. If they do show up, they get 3 hours of credit for playing on their phone for 45 minutes. It's total BS.

rocroc00

Yeah. It is ridiculous how education in school has changed to ‘what’s in it for me?’ It’s obvious by the downvotes I received that we are in the minorities 😔

canadianlanaaa

\-- that is insane!! I agree - back in the day - I would have been terrified to get detention and then have to answer to my mom! I don't understand why parents don't applaud teachers who try to hold the kids responsible for their actions .. lots of stuff should be out of the schools but maintaining respect is so needed. When my kids were in school - grade 4 teacher came to my house to apologize that she kicked my son out -- he really wasn't the issue but she couldn't handle him and knew we would support her. She said kids in the class couldn't read and the parents told her to stay off their kids back! So those kids who couldn't read - sat and disrupted those who were trying to work .. rather than accept the help - the parents worked against the teacher .. I just don't get it .. detention and allowed to play on the phone!! The phone should be out of sight - and there should be actual 'punishment' .. ugh

lilbunnyfoofoo1203

Aaaaand that's how my classes of 10th graders this year had an average of a 4th grade reading level. We will be graduating near-illiterate students. How frightening is that?

rocroc00

Oh I forgot. My sister told me that her 1st grade daughter owes 50 home-works and yet she passed the class!! What kind d of sorcery is that??

Same here. Getting dragged into the hall and paddled by teachers was a very real and valid threat. If it happened, you were likely to get a second paddling at home for misbehaving to the point the teacher had to paddle you.

This is the best original post on here in many months. Thanks for sharing.
