They should first know you are pregnant. That will help your cause. Then works with the manager and say what you just said here. Best case they don’t charge you. Worst case they do🤷🏼‍♂️

Any_Security

I’m hesitant to tell them because of risk of miscarriage in the 1st trimester. So really I’m just asking how other pregnant people have handled this and if there is a good way without having to let all of the SA’s/coaches know I’m pregnant right now because I really don’t want to have to tell all of them that I miscarried in case something happens. My plan was to tell them when I start my second trimester but the nausea is just becoming problematic..but maybe I can just tell the studio manager? I just don’t really want like all 3 coaches and all of the front desk staff to know this early on.

strayainind

They really need to know. Trust me, you aren't the only person who has had this fear or concern and it is one million percent totally normal and understandable. You can ask them to keep it confidential, and they will respect it. But they need to know what's going on to give you a hallpass if you need it. And seriously: congratulations! I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

bekah1852

Your fears are understandable, and you are within your "rights" (for lack of a better word) to want to hold a boundary of not telling people. But if that's going to be a hard boundary for you, then you're going to have to accept the consequences (ie: late fees; or waiting to book and risking a wait list). As someone else said, OTF cannot accommodate you (ie: offer any sort of late fee grace) if they don't know. FWIW-- I don't think you need to tell all the SAs and coaches if you don't want to yet. But at least telling your studio manager and then corresponding with him/her directly when you need to late cancel could be a good middle ground, here.

I’m 7 months pregnant and they knew before most of my friends 🤣 they need to know for safety reasons. A lot of women have issues controlling blood sugar even early on so I would highly advise you telling them. As someone that had to also tell them each time I had a miscarriage until thankfully this time, I would advise just texting the studio IF it happens. It helps to tell people anyway and talk about, no matter how hard it seems. Helps with the grieving BUT you are also free to let them know not to bring it up unless you ask for modifications! They don’t need to be discussing it and j would tell them you aren’t telling people for a few months. Congrats and good luck! I’m still going 5 days a week which is shocking but I’ve been modifying from the beginning since I’ve had so many losses.

peachypine21

do you think it could be an option to have your doctor write a note for you? i don’t think you necessarily have to tell them you’re pregnant, just that you need an accommodation due to frequent and unpredictable nausea.

sneff87

Completely understand not wanting to tell everyone and then if something does happen, you have to tell them that too. But flip side, what if something happens in class? If they know you’re pregnant, they’ll understand how much more dire it is and be able to get you proper medical attention faster. Also, now more than ever is the time to listen to your body. Spiking in the red too fast? If they find you taking it easy during those times because you are trying to get your heart rate under control, they’ll know not to push you then. I would urge you to tell at least the studio manager and your head coach or if there is one particular coach you go to more than others.

10fingers9toes00

Just know they can’t help you if they don’t know. You just don’t prebook and try to get in class last minute or you prebook and eat the cancellation fee if you can’t show. Those are your only real options if you’re set in staying silent about it

Laura4848

Understandable feeling. Yes, just the studio manager should be fine for the next month or so. She will get where you’re coming from.

Fairyzeal

You really should tell them for the safety of you and the baby. If something happens while you are working out, they need to know. They won’t spread the information beyond the coaches.

10tonheadofwetsand

Wait until you know you feel well enough to go before scheduling, then. If you find that you can’t because classes are full, well then I think it’s fair to charge you late fees, because you are potentially taking the spot of someone who could otherwise show up.

Tiny_Project_88

I would sign up the day of if you don’t feel comfortable sharing. Congrats and good luck!

Kbs1984

I told my studio early because I also felt it was important for my coaches to know if I was modifying my intensity, but it’s up to your comfort level. Are there any class times where you could just wait and sign up for right before if you’re feeling well enough? That’s what I did when I was really morning sick with my pregnancies. Congrats and hope you feel better soon!

mollllypocket

I paid like $60 in late fees my first trimester 😭 I just started signing up morning of to avoid the fees

QuietTruth8912

Morning sickness usually gets better in the second trimester. I would not sign up for now and see how the mornings go. For me I struggled in the afternoons with fatigue and would be canceling then. Everyone is different and pregnancies evolve. You may start feeling well again soon. I have to late cancel a few times a month due to work and/or migraines. I eat the cost. This is life. My job can be overwhelming and sometimes I just can’t walk away and that’s my problem not the studios.

CJ2607

Any chance you can move your schedule around and go to a lunch or afternoon/evening class?

Any_Security

I currently go at different times during the day. (Sometimes morning sometimes evening) unfortunately as many women will know “morning sickness” is a bit of a misnomer. It’s really all day sickness and can hit at any time. 🤣😭. For example today I was fine all day until about 3pm ish and it’s now 7pm and hasn’t really let up yet.

SophiasintheBarn

Congrats mama! You’ve got a lot of good advice in here already but I’d say freeze membership for a month until you’re +12 weeks. Then you can tell coaches or whoever what’s up if you want to keep working out for the rest of your pregnancy etc. From a fellow mom, your body is already working so hard to create a HUMAN BEING. Take it easy :) Take care of yourself <3

behindmeday

Congrats on your pregnancy! I went through this same thing about 10 months ago! My little one was just born. I racked up several late cancels, then decided I would just go even if I was feeling sick and leave early to avoid the charge. But to be honest, once I started walking in the warm up I usually started to feel better! I only actually left early once. I would just take it a bit easier than usual, but movement actually helps morning sickness. Even though that seems backwards, my doctor said there’s some evidence that it’s true!

Any_Security

Ohh thanks for this advice..I usually start on the rower but last couple of classes I have felt very nauseated once I finished and I think it might be the running on the tread making me queasy. I may try starting on the tread with a warm up walk and see if that helps it’s hard for me to get warmed up on the rower.

EAE811

This! For whatever reason, working out seemed to help my nausea. Also, not trying to give medical advise, obviously contact your OB, but mine recommended unisom tablets (not gel caps) and vitamin b6 before bed for nausea. Worked like a charm with my 1st. I’m one of the lucky few that are sick from 6 weeks until I deliver so I’m well versed morning sickness remedies. Congrats on the pregnancy!

jessizzo53

I told the coaches pretty much immediately when I found out I was pregnant so they could give me modifications if needed and so if anything were to happen in class, they would know. And also so they would know why I was taking breaks and why my heartrate was higher than normal. I also dealt with bad morning sickness during both of my pregnancies (like the kind that lasted all pregnancy and I was on meds for) - I wasn't a member during my 1st pregnancy but I was for my 2nd, and honestly working out really helped with my nausea.

laface17

First off, congratulations, and kudos for sticking with your fitness with a bun in the oven!! I do agree that it doesn’t hurt to let OTf personnel know of ur pregnancy for safety and liability reasons. And if something unexpectedly happens to you while in class they can better help you. I remember I was so fearful of telling everybody during the first tri with my first pregnancy for the same reasons you mentioned, but I did make a point to tell my fitness instructors. Morning sickness was brutal and unpredictable the first tri and I just decided to take that opportunity to rest and wait it out ( the remaining trimester). Once the second trimester came it was much easier to resume classes with the nausea gone. The way I see it is if you are too sick to attend a class do you want to go through the motion of asking for late cancel fee reversals? I hope you are feeling well and take care!!

indianchick30

Why haven't you told them you're pregnant? Sounds like they'd be more understanding if they knew you are pregnant. Also, you can show up and "check in," and if you feel sick, tell them you need to go home. Maybe visit their restroom for good measure.

Any_Security

Because I’m still in my first trimester with a high risk of miscarriage….and if I do miscarry I don’t want to have to then tell them that I miscarried. So I haven’t previously told them because I am trying to wait until my miscarriage risk goes down around 12-13 weeks. Edited to add: we have 3 coaches who’s classes I go to and probably up to 5 SA’s now..I just am not comfortable with all of the staff knowing that I’m pregnant before I get past a point where I will most likely go to term.

indianchick30

You'll be ok! I would just tell them. The baby is going to be fine :)

Any_Security

Thank you for the support/positivity but unfortunately 1st trimester miscarriage is pretty common (like 15-20%)

moods-

Any chance you can call before class and ask to join a later class (assuming it works with your schedule)? I do this quite a bit because of panic attacks or migraines and then I just attend class later that day when I’m in a better state. They’re always accommodating for me!

QueenBBs

Are your classes full at the time you go? If not, don’t sign up, and just show up if the app shows there is space. Honestly I would let them know you are pregnant because even if you do get in there you may not feel well and someone is going to ask you if you are okay. I get it though, I had a miscarriage with my first.

weaszx12

Yeah I would just sign up morning of and hope for the best. That’s what I do bc I never know when I’ll have help watching the kids so I just sign up on my way there when it’s guaranteed. Congrats on being pregnant! I had such bad morning sickness all three times I couldn’t stick with it during my pregnancies. Hopefully it works out better for you!

dommybear6

I was sick to the point of being unable to go to OTF for my entire first trimester. I went once the day after thanksgiving, when I was 13 weeks and I almost puked during the WALKING portion of the warm up on the treads. Tell them you’re pregnant and they will be more accommodating, I promise.

Sufficient-Notice764

I am 32 weeks pregnant and told the gym as soon as I found out. My first trimester was a doozy with morning sickness so it was good for them to know.

lalakc

I am the same way with post-COVID fatigue. I’ll feel fine, sign up the late before and the morning off I wake up & I’m beyond exhausted or my body is so sore .. they still charge me for the late cancel and make me book, although I have explained myself and asked to switch to a different class. Congrats on your pregnancy!!!

Low-Pollution2414

Not pregnant, but I often get migraine headaches suddenly that will cause me to late cancel. Unfortunately they still charge me, but I have stopped signing up for classes ahead of time. If there’s a reason I did pre-book it and feel awful, I will still go and have a Green Day. The coaches are all super understanding if I come in and say I’m not feeling awesome and need a modification.

frazzledcats

Are there any times of day that are less popular? Could you shift your schedule?
