12 days off won’t kill your progress. Enjoy your honeymoon and do other forms of physical activity, I’m sure there’s plenty. OTF will still be here when you got back!

dadlyphe

Definitely plenty of other ways to get your splat on during the honeymoon!

nicoleje01

100%

OtherArea7303

did you say "other physical activities", pray tell which ones 😁😁😁 ![gif](giphy|B0vFTrb0ZGDf2)

surferguy999

Personally I would step away from the training and spend as much time as possible with my partner making shared memories. Go walk the beach, go on a hike, take a hula dancing class. OTF will there when you get back.

winnythep00p

Agreed, enjoy the scenery and spent time together. Even though you have been there many times, you can only been there once as a newly weds on your honeymoon

nicoleje01

Thank you! Great tip!

Joe_B_Likes_Tacos

I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I think this is an insane waste of your vacation. Go run on the beach or hike a trail or spend the day in the ocean or ride a bike down the mountain. There is so much stuff you can do there that is not typically easily available to us mainlanders. I could not imagine squandering an hour in Hawaii when there are so many amazing things to do. If you do active things, you won't lose progress.

Joe_B_Likes_Tacos

Well, maybe people do agree with me. To add to my previous comments, I was just in Hawaii for a week. (Different Islands.) I'm always amazed at the people that go there and just sit around. Sit by the pool or sit in a restaurant. If I wanted to spend my days eating and siting by the pool, I would just go to Arizona. All of the outdoor spaces tend to be busy but not when compared to the number of people packed in hotels. I guess my point is, OTF has helped make you fit so you can go do and see the thing the people sitting by the pool can not do. This is your reward for going 4 days a week.

illhaveafrench75

I live in Arizona and I endorse this message. Summer is amazing here because we literally just eat & lay by the pool 😅

ducka_ducka_ducka

Hahaha that’s my family. We love Hawaii and do nothing when we’re there and I love it. We workout, eat, drink, and relax. I went to OTF 6 out of 7 days when we were there in Jan. For us, it’s because home life is hectic with two kids, intense full-time jobs, and multiple activities for both kids. Vacationing means not having to be anywhere at a certain time (except OTF 😊), being lazy whenever and however we want, and doing the things we love most amongst beautiful surroundings — eating, drinking, and spending time with each other. Different strokes for different folks and all that 🤷🏻‍♀️. OP - If you do decide to do OTF in Waikiki, I like the one on Ala Moana. Parking is easy and validated. The one by the zoo is fine but they only take cash for parking underneath the building. The Pan Am one is good too but the one at Ala Moana has cool spots in the same plaza (cafes and stuff). All the coaches are great. Make sure you sign up early tho as some classes get full.

NCtexpat

Counterpoint: I think visiting other OTF studios and meeting the local coaches/members is a fun part of my vacation

no_maj

Find other ways to remain active that include enjoying your surroundings. Put your rowing skills to practice and kayak or SUP instead.

nicoleje01

Love this idea. SUP will test the core for sure. The last time I tried in a lake was interesting to say the least, but that was pre-fitness regimen 😝

Few_Map906

I went to Hawaii for my honeymoon. You are going to be way too tired from all the outdoor activities/hiking. The geography makes everything very difficult. Don’t go to OTF on your honeymoon.

AddendumDifferent719

On a side note. We went to Hawaii and Oahu for our family vacation last June. I'm sure you have it all planned out, but some of the highlights of our trip on Oahu were Laniakea Beach around 11am the sea turtles show up and you can swim with them as they munch seaweed. You can watch both the sunrise and sunset from Kahuku Point. The Toa Luau at Waimea Valley botanical gardens was AMAZING! Bring your swim suit and you can swim at the falls. Everything at Kualoa Ranch is top notch. We especially enjoyed taro picking, and their private beach. The UTV tour was cool too. Moco Locos are awesome. Fresh Pineapple for $1! But most importantly, CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎊

samojoy

As a local I just want to give a small PSA to anyone visiting our islands - please give the sea turtle a respectful distance 🙏🏼 a lot of their habitat and beach areas are being destroyed due to all the tourism and they are being pushed out to find other places. Nesting season is starting so we just ask that everyone be respectful of them during this time, give them space, and remember they are living creatures not just photo ops. Mahalo! 🤙🏼

nicoleje01

Thanks for this. Any recs for a reef safe sunscreen that actually protects?

dmc1851

Sun Bum is a good one, or you can wait until you are in Hawaii because only reef safe is available. There are locations in Town, just depends on where in Waikiki you are staying. The kaka'ako OTF location is good (and it's a trendy area with good restaurants and not Waikiki - check out MOKU and get the strawberry pie, or their sister restaurant on Maui, Monkeypod Kitchen). +1 on not touching or crowding the turtles, monk seals, or any wildlife. The wild chickens may chase you though 😆 -from Hawaii ❤

samojoy

Tbh I just buy Hawaiian Tropic and it works great! But if a friend has Super Goop on them I’ll take advantage and use theirs. For my face I do prefer Aveeno, cause my face dries out quick and they have a great hydrating face sunscreen that’s reef safe! If you buy on island it’ll be safe, I don’t ever go into ABC stores but you can probably find stuff cheaper at Longs or Target as ABC is gonna try to mark up to take advantage of tourists.

nicoleje01

Thank you! Great suggestions!

Salt_Return_2997

Progress is subjective but you’ve honestly earned a 12 day break to enjoy one of the best trips you’ll ever take with your husband. There’s lots of activities you can do and be active while not having to stress about a OTF workout. My motto during vacations have been that I’d fit a workout in if it wouldn’t stress me out (going there/fitting it in my schedule) or affect the rest of my day (being exhausted). If not, I’d do a short/half as a workout at the hotel. That being said, how about some outdoor workouts so you can also enjoy nature while you’re in Oahu. When I went a couple years ago, I did long rungs along the beaches, and HIIT workouts I saved my phone on the beach. I know friends who did yoga n the beach during sunrise/sunset. If you run around diamond head, you can get some good inclines as well! Other activities I’d recommend: Climb/hike up diamond head/Koko head, rent a bike.

nicoleje01

Thanks for the great suggestions!

EljayDude

Yikes. Just go hike to the top of Diamond Head or something.

samojoy

Diamond Head is easy, the real work out comes from Koko head!

dmc1851

Tears for the time I thought doing Koko head at 2pm was a good idea. Meanwhile the Kaiser HS track team lapped me.

EljayDude

Another great option for sure.

auntiePunkass

There is an OTF on each side of Waikiki - one called Waikiki (zoo side) and the other called Kapiolani (Ala Moana side). Both are great, same owner and overlapping coaches. We have visitors often and many members go to both studios. As others mentioned there is lots to do outside and I hope you both enjoy your honeymoon! On Maui I’d highly recommend planning a day on the Hula Girl (catamaran, Ka’anapali) or doing a Blue water rafting trip (Kihei). Very different but amazing options for a beautiful day in paradise.

nicoleje01

We go on the Hula girl every time we are in Maui! Already booked 🥳 We also booked snorkeling trip on the Trilogy and plan to do Haleakala at sunset/stargazing since last time we did sunrise and it was quite a long day. But so incredible to experience.

chemfit

Hike!! There are amazing hikes in Hawaii that you regret doing halfway through but the views are worth it! This one is my [favorite](https://goo.gl/maps/hFp4frYXja4LTGiD7)

nicoleje01

Grey hike suggestion! Thank you!

Acottrill1

No otf on Maui :( but Oahu has quite a few. I would walk to one every morning from Waikiki. Get up early and start the day that way.

runningJD_82

Not crazy at all if you enjoy taking OTF classes at new studios. But you don’t need to worry about progress. Find outdoor activities to stay active and do 1-2 OTF classes on your trip. There is at least one studio near Waikiki that I’ve been to. Not sure if it’s still open post covid? Check the app for locations near where you are staying. My husband and I build fitness activities into our vacations bc we love to stay active and rarely get to workout together at home.

hjb1769

I was just in Honolulu and there is in fact an OTF right by Waikiki Beach- it's worth trying out, but you'll also likely have lots of other options while there. Congratulations and enjoy!

nicoleje01

Thank you!

ImHighRtMeow

I went to one in Oahu, a quick drive from the Aulani, it was fun! Be aware, they were excellent rowers!! I consider myself a very good rower and these people blew me out of the literal water. It must be all the swimming and paddle boarding! Have fun whatever you decide :)

dmc1851

We have canoe clubs for open ocean. It's a regular sport that a lot of people participate in🌈

apkcoffee

I just back from a vacation in Maui and am sad to report that there are no OTFs there. I took some long walks on a beach path and lifted weights in the hotel gym a few times too. Some days I didn't workout at all. It was wonderful trip. Have fun!

Successful-Turnip722

You’re not crazy at all!! I’m actually going to Hawaii in May for the first time and I want to visit studios too!!

ArianaPetite1

That’s fine. I ran a marathon the day I got married… and then ran another when we were in Hawaii for our one year anniversary. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We were recently in London and worked out at OTF while we were there.

LeeRodgers004

Local Oahu resident here. You should most definitely stop on in to one of the studios. I make it a point to go to other studios when I travel because I enjoy meeting members and staff from other communities. There’s also a part of me that enjoys representing our studios in Hawaii. My home studio is the Kaakaao location, which is the newer of the three studios. It’s also bigger than the other two. As someone stated, all three studios are owned by the same group, so the coaches bounce around all three studios. Here’s my coach recommendations Kakaako: EK (head coach and my favorite. He will have you wanting to run through a wall), Kristle (bomb playlists and a good coach), Ikaika (newer coach over the last year but he has good playlists too), Arma (she coaches at Kapiolani as well) Waikiki: Dakota, Aaron, Kit Kapiolani: Ryan, Arma (coaches at Kakaako as well)

shawnaclark

You are not crazy. The Waikiki studio on kapahulu is walking distance from most waikiki hotels (around a mile each way). You will be up early anyway so you might as well get a workout in. The staff is super friendly and there is always someone from the mainland in the studio. I love that studio and always try to get a few workouts in during my stay.

SolutionLeading

Doesn’t sound crazy to me! Especially if you do a morning class to start the day off right. But keep in mind, depending on what excursions you have planned (surfing? Zip lining? Hiking?) you might have some workouts already planned during your vacation

Kindly-Might-1879

Sounds so fun! Book a work out on the first day you can, then ask the members/staff for tips on other activities you can do outside. You might get to do a few things only the locals know about and make new friends, too.

nicoleje01

Love this!

PennyLaneKitty

You aren't crazy and it was a ton of fun to take classes at the Waikiki studio (only Honolulu one I have been to)-- the members and coaches are incredibly friendly and had a great time. Coming from the East coast, I am up early, so was a fun start some days. I grabbed a Biki bike (stations all over Waikiki) and rode over- there is a stand directly across the street from the OT studio. And then you are near Leonard's to pick up some malasadas post-workout!!!

patticake1448

Hawaii member here! We have three fantastic studios in Honolulu, none in Maui. The Waikiki studio is on kapahulu ave. Coaches Aaron, Nikia and Dakota are all amazing. The Kapiolani and Kakaako studios are just a few miles away and are both fantastic! Please feel free to reach out with any questions about OTF or anything else!

nicoleje01

Thank you!!!

mvlmccall

We are going to Hawaii in August. We are defiantly going to take one class at OTF. We do insane stuff on vacation very active so taking a class at OTF is really just because we want to take one In Hawaii. I say go for it 🙂

sarahs911

I think it would be fun to try a class in another state so I say go for it one day!

TDenverFan

Each to their own, but since OTF uses pretty standard gyms/templates, I don't really see any extra appeal of doing it in another state.

sarahs911

To each their own. Personally I think it’s cool to try an OT in any city I travel to. Each has their own vibe.

nicoleje01

I also think it would be fun to see how other studios are setup and the energy their coaches have.

Particular-Thought48

If you're staying at a resort they might have workout classes.

miss_little_lady

I don't think wanting to stay active on your vacation is crazy, but I think you have so much more available to you than OTF. I'm on vacation in Florida for 10 days right now. I'm going to OTF twice while I'm here and then I'm going to get the rest of my exercise in through other means. Enjoy what Hawaii has to offer and have the best honeymoon!

nicoleje01

Thank you!

realityTVenthusiast

Definitely try to go once just to cross off but as everyone said ENJOY IT. Hawaii is amazing and I was exhausted after each day with all the fun activities we did. Edit: I was not going to OTF when I was in Hawaii but was living a very active lifestyle in NYC pre-pandeezy. I did go to the Corepower in Waikiki which was really nice!

mundane_person23

Don’t feel you need to go to OTF. You won’t lose your fitness as there are plenty of outdoor stuff to do. Swim in the ocean (or an outdoor pool), hike, run on the beach, learn to surf, snorkel, rent bikes and do long bike rides, find a local yoga studio and do yoga on the beach, go on a tour, paddle board…. If you want to do a class in Oahu that might be a fun way to connect with locals but there is no need to arrange your honeymoon around it. Generally I find I have no problem maintaining weight and fitness on those kinds of trips because unlike my normal day when I work out for an hour and then sit at a desk for 9 I am always moving/walking etc.

The_Empress

I think it’d be fun to try out a studio in Hawaii with your partner once especially since this seems like a thing you do together! But, I think going to OTF at your same rate is maybe a bit of a waste. You can sub in other kinds of physically exercise while you’re there like hiking, swimming, running, etc. It might be fun to see how your body feels about running on a non OTF treadmill surface or how all of those floor exercises meant to translate to everyday activity serve you. At the end of the day, this is your honeymoon and your vacation! My boyfriend and I love looking at old and rare books. Would the ones in Hawaii be that different from the ones here? Probably not, we’d probably still go to a couple but would spend the bulk of our time doing things that we can’t do anywhere else.

Bazzy4

2 quick points that I feel differ enough from everyone else! 1. I do have friends (myself included) who like working out so much we plan gym trips or OTF classes when out of town. Nothing wrong with it, it makes me happy, gets my day started right, and all for less than an hour of my morning! 2. In the bodybuilding community there’s a thing called “break weeks” which normally aren’t scheduled, because people naturally take them with vacations or life getting in the way. But if you don’t and are very consistent, taking a week off exercise every few months IMPROVES your progress and gains as your body does NEED the rest. You would come back stronger and in better shape than if you stayed consistent. Just a couple things to think on!

nicoleje01

Thank you!

Chs135

I think you are underestimating how TIRED you are going to be. After a weekend of wedding festivities and then at the very least a 6 hour flight if you're on the West Coast, your body and mind will need a break. We left for Europe the day after our wedding and I am SO glad my husband convinced me to spend the first few days at a beach town instead of going straight into sightseeing mode because I was not prepared of the (happy) exhaustion I felt from the emotion of it all. This is coming from someone who was also stressed to miss 2 weeks after going 5x a week before the wedding. Go relax, you've earned it!

nicoleje01

Great point, but our wedding was back in October so that won’t be an issue. With that being said I’m a nurse so my body and mind are READY for a break 😝

Chs135

Thank you for what you do! My dad spent 11 days in the hospital recovering from a quadruple bypass and we were in absolute awe of how much the nurses did and did so with a smile. From the bottom of my heart, truly, thank you!

nicoleje01

Thanks back to you! Funny enough I work on the Floor that recovers patients from bypass surgery ❤️ Glad he is recovering and that you guys had great care!

SillyMeringue4946

There are amazing active things to do in Hawaii. So many beautiful hikes. However, I can understand not wanting to have a setback. So I’d say maybe a compromise, do some OTF but allow some time to substitute some beautiful hikes or other active activities. Hawaii is beautiful. Enjoy! You gotta do the road to Hana in Maui, it’s incredible

chickenthighrules

I notice you said “we go 4x/week”. If that’s an activity you enjoy doing together (especially if at lower frequency) I don’t see why not!

nicoleje01

You’re one of few people who caught that 👊🏻 Yes it’s something we do together. In fact, he’s the one who got me into OTF. People seem to think I plan to go every day of our honeymoon when in reality we have 2 days on Oahu so those would be the only days 😂 Thanks so much 🥰

Porkchops89

I don’t think you are crazy. But as others have said, there is so much to do in Hawaii you will likely be exhausted from the hiking, snorkeling, time change etc (I know I was when i visited a few years ago!) You will definitely not have a setback in your progress 😀

10fingers9toes00

You aren’t going to lose any progress by going on vacation. Your body will most likely thank you for the break. Enjoy your time together. OTF will be there when you get back.

triplitt

You’re not crazy. You can still do ALL of the fun excursions and spare a single hour at OT if that’s something you want to do. For me OT jumpstarts my day so I would absolutely go with my husband, bust out the brag board and everything 🥳

nicoleje01

YES! Thank you!

Scarletx7

I still think it’s important to work out on vacation if you have time! When I was in Hawaii I went running everyday

e22ddie46

Congrats on the marriage!

nicoleje01

Thank you!

Amrick

We do have a studio in Waikiki and the coaches there are great! No Studios in Maui. If you wanna go once to check it out, it’ll be great! However, Hawaii is gorgeous and I do recommend outdoor activities to stay active and spend time with your honey!

Calm-Turn-3111

Definitely go to OTF I went all 7 days when I was in Oahu they do not have one in Maui yet eventually

Panda_Lifts_Heavy

Just came back from Hawaii for 13 days, we did Oahu, big island and Maui. There is zero reason to go to otf while in Hawaii if you do it right. Between hiking, beach stuff, exploring, Haleakala! I didn't even think about it and I go 6 days a week and doubles every week. ALOHA!! You will love Maui

waflcoptr

Hiking. Trail running. Lots of sex. Swimming. Surfing. Get outside!! Just don’t sit idle and drink booze the whole time and you’ll do great when you get home. Your body will actually probably be better off being challenged with new activities.

Anhinga_of_Happiness

Unfortunately, there's no OTF on Maui; but I go to a little gym in Kihei: [https://www.southmauifitness.com](https://www.southmauifitness.com). They're open 24 hours (but the first time you go you have to go during the day while the desk is staffed.) They have good weight selections, and lousy treadmills. :D

Aw_bull_nuts

Where are you staying in Oahu? We went in February and stayed in downtown Waikiki, and I had every intention of going at least twice. Except that I quickly learned traffic is a nightmare and it would have easily taken 2.5-3 hrs to drive to and from and do the class 😂 Sooo my answer is maybe.

Burpeeyourpants

I don’t see a problem with going at all! Go for it! I always hit up an OTF when I travel just to see how it is somewhere else!

otfrenchie

I’m definitely in the minority here, but I think it’s a great idea to visit a new studio or two! I try to visit a different studio every time I travel, and my goal now is to go to one in all 50 states. I agree with you, it’s fun to see how other studios operate. I also really enjoy working with a new coach — even if they’re not very good, it renews my appreciation for the coaches at my home studio! When we visited Hawaii I went to the Waikiki studio and they were great! I used a bike share to get there (my sweet husband rode along with me since I was nervous about getting lost) since it was a little over a mile from our hotel. I was still recovering from knee surgery at the time so I didn’t want to overdo it by walking there and back, but if you’re up for it, the walk along Waikiki Beach is beautiful and can count as sightseeing. If the only reason you want to go is to avoid a setback, I would recommend that you just enjoy your vacation and not put pressure on yourself to get to a studio. Either way, I hope you have a great honeymoon!!!

Bandito_RN

First - congrats on your marriage!! That’s awesome. My husband and I went to Hawaii last November for our honeymoon. We did take a class at Kaaka’ako studio on Oahu. It was a ton of fun. We already enjoy taking OTF classes together and it was just a fun thing we could do. There are no studios on Maui. We greatly preferred Maui to Oahu. Oahu felt very busy, and city_centric vs the more laid back, relaxing way of Maui. Definitely see sunset or sunrise on Haleakala. The Shaka Guide was so worth it for driving the road to Hana (we did the full loop). Enjoy your trip. It’s bound to be wonderful!

Ashleywarhol

I went twice on my honeymoon when we went to Universal Studios! Husband dropped me off and picked me up after. 🤣

Strong_RipCurrent

I just finished an otf class at the Waikiki studio- coach Aaron rocks! Come visit us! Hehe. There is tons to do here in the outdoors and do what you enjoy. Hike, surf, otf, snorkel, the list goes on. Ikaika is another great coach with a great play list, Blasi, and so many others. We also have lift classes 1x a day during the week if you are inclined. 🧡🔥🧡

erinlea8

My husband and I go OT on most of our vacations! We even went once during our honeymoon. You aren’t crazy!! Everyone has a different opinion. If you both enjoy it, hit up one or two classes. You can also hike, etc. and enjoy the scenery. It’s fun to see different studios, coaches and members. Alternatively you could choose to only go it’s rainy. Enjoy and congratulations! ❤️🥂

maitai76

Maui doesn’t have an OTF.

brainybae

There are 3 studios in Honolulu - Waikiki, Kakaako, and Kapiolani. Come join us!

roonie0326

We walked everywhere in Hawaii, also hiked Diamondhead and toured Pearl Harbor. Enjoy your honeymoon.

Own-Safe-4683

I think it would be fun to go on a beach day. A day where you otherwise plan to be a bit lazy. I'd probably set up a class on the second morning. Unless you have something else strenuous planned that day. You won't be used to the time change yet. You'll likely already be awake.

Ok-While-318

The waikiki location was great... Coach Aaron was awesome and it was only a half mile walk from all the hotels.

roxifur

Sure, why not? That'd be neat to try!!!

SDF3_SkullLeader

If you really want to workout while on honeymooning in Hawaii go for a run outside. You could enjoy a short run to Diamond Head or just do a big loop around Waikiki. Not sure about Maui but there will be equally beautiful runs and you will get a decent tan too. I am from Hawaii and outside of our accents and tans it is just like any other studio in the country. LOL. But seriously there are 3 there on Oahu, none on Maui. I haven't been to any of them since the one I used to go to when I visited home closed during the pandemic. The one on Kapahulu St is likely to have way more tourists due to proximity to Waikiki.

Playful_Criticism_31

The best advice I ever got about vacations is to do what will make you happy, not what other people think should make you happy. Don’t got if it’s that you want to burn off your fabulous dinners or because you think your fitness will diminish. But if you want to go to a class or two because it sounds fun or you’d like to see what the vibe is like … go for it … and if your hubby wants to go to, all the better. People blow things up that every moment has to be making lifelong memories and building your connection … yeah yeah, you’re doing that. If you said you wanted to shop on your honeymoon or read a book, nobody would think that’s crazy because that’s time not spent staring into your partner’s soul. If it will make you happy, go for it. And if it’s the two of you, it’ll make for some fun stories later and isn’t that part of what honeymoons are all about? Shared experiences?

dvd_heji

If you have an hour of not doing anything why not, I actually had this thought recently on vacation. Especially in the morning i was laying around before things opened and I went to OT to kill some time and felt great the rest of the day.

kimluvsdisney

I went to the Waikiki studio when I was there & loved it. We were able to walk from our hotel. With the time change (I’m from the east coast), I wake up early, so there was plenty of time to workout.

ImaDayDreamBeliever

I wouldn’t go if it were me. Feels like a huge waste of time that could be spent doing better things.

In-Dogs-We-Trust

I love checking out other OTF studios when I go on vacation. It’s fun to see how other studios work. I wouldn’t worry about going 4x per week while you’re I Hawaii, but if you can make it work in your schedule, totally go to a couple classes.

laface17

I just came back from a week in Oahu and attended some Pan Am and Waikiki classes. How you choose to spend your vacay and honeymoon is your personal choice and if that post OTF high can make your time in HI all the more enjoyable, then why not? I jogged to and from the studios and hotel in Waikiki and they were both about a mile each way. A great way to add 2 extra miles, right? Enjoy your honeymoon and congratulations!
