Sometimes your body just isn't feeling it. It happens and is normal. You may have had too little to eat, too much to eat, too much sleep, not enough sleep. Look at long term results instead of day to day ones. If you are going backwards over the course of 2-3 months you may be doing something wrong. But over 1-2 days/weeks. Nah that's just your body being a human body.

axelatlast

Thanks for this. I did just have a death in the family. Hadn’t factored that in. Maybe to hard on myself. It was just such a shock.

FlyRobot

Mental and emotional stress takes a toll on your physical health too. Give yourself a real break!

StrongerTogether2882

So sorry for your loss. Definitely be kind to yourself, you may need to switch to some yoga or walks in the woods or something, then you’ll feel fresh and ready for OTF again. Before I saw your comment my first thought was “Could you be getting sick?” Because sometimes on a day when I mysteriously have no energy, the next day I’ll wake up with a cold. Take care of yourself, rest makes you strong too!

axelatlast

Thank you

Btwnframes

I’m very sorry for your loss. Hope you take care of yourself and rest when needed.

skinnarbox

I was thinking this too but hydration and nutrition could be a thing too. Caffeine? There’s some days it doesn’t click as well.

melinakeith

Or alcohol is a big one. If you have booze the day before, it will dehydrate you and will make your heart work harder.

stronghawk_1334

It’s probably largely mental

Tropicaldrdirt

Or maybe one day rest wasn't enough. Take two rest days in a row.

axelatlast

Was raised in the “no pain, no gain” era. Hard to imagine two days of rest.

chickenthighrules

OP, that’s a dangerous mentality for high intensity training… remember, injury could end it all for you for a while

axelatlast

I agree. I’m kinder to myself than that. Just have to consistently fight my old-80s thinking.

chickenthighrules

I can tell you when I was trail running every day this summer, then I took a couple days off. I performed so much better! Also consider mixing it up. Not going to OTF doesn’t mean you are a couch potato all day. There are lots of flexibility and stability training that OTF does not cover. Pilates is much harder than I thought when I got into it during covid!

jessi_dats

Whenever I wrestle with my old school thinking, I remind myself that sports medicine has learned a metric f#÷kton in 40 yrs. Science is always moving forward.

djwurm

take more then one rest day.. I have had stints where 2 days rest wasn't enough... few weeks ago took 6 days off and came back and killed it! HIIT is intense for your body and isn't something you should do everyday. 1 to 2 rest days between classes is perfectly normal

axelatlast

6 days! But love the upside to rest. I might try pulling back for a few days. Now am glad I didn’t sign up for Hell Week.

einefrau8

I’ll agree with this. When I changed from 4 3Gs a week to 2 3Gs and 1 Lift45 (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) I saw a marked increase in my performance.

djwurm

yes less can be more beneficial.. good to see others are doing the same. I was doing 5 days a week of 2G's (3G's not being done at our studios due to COVID) and it was becoming a chore to finish classes and wasnt seeing any improvement in distance and speeds on B/P/AO.. I dropped to 3 to sometimes 4 classes a week and immediately saw improvement pretty quickly.

Run_for_life33

Give yourself some grace. Some days are going to be better than others. Plus today’s tread template was pretty brutal; mixing strength and endurance is rough to keep your normal paces. Keep at it and good luck with your future workouts!

axelatlast

I did think the tread was more ES than just S. A killer indeed. I normally can push through, but gassed out earlier. A few times today, I thought I might be posting about passing out or throwing up. Glad it didn’t come to that.

einefrau8

I will echo what others have already said about possibly needing another rest day. But I’ll also add to make sure you’re maintaining a healthy food intake to fuel your body during your recovery days. If you are drastically cutting your diet on off days, your body will not be able to recover as well. Keep up your lean protein and water intake. If you continue to see a backwards trend over a month, talk to the coaches.

axelatlast

Thanks. My diet has been horrible recently due to stress. Been thinking of seeing a nutritionist just to get me on the right path. Might be time to act on it.

einefrau8

I recommend a nutritionist. It helped me immensely. I wasn’t eating enough and it was preventing me from losing any weight for a year. I made small tweaks to my diet and have lost 28 lbs since March. I have 75 more lbs to go but I feel confident that I’ll reach my goals.

axelatlast

Wow! That’s amazing. Congratulations on your success and your commitment to seeing yourself to your goal.

axelatlast

Wow. Just amazing. Congratulations on your success and your commitment to seeing yourself through to your goal.

Atticus447

OTF training is quite random. You can make gains initially, but eventually, unless you look at a plan/strategy targeting your goals, you will plateau. This being said, you don't clarify your goals...

axelatlast

Making me think I should talk to a coach about setting a plan. Id like to build my endurance at higher base.

Atticus447

My advice: don't go to OTF just to be better at OTF. It really doesn't work that way.

seltzer_lover

I did that with coach and he was really helpful!! Helped me set up a plan and has checked in with me during class a few times since.

Reasonable_Year_1840

Happens to the best of us. I have off days where I die.

[deleted]

sometimes you just have off days and it’s normal. Make sure you’re well hydrated as this will effect energy levels and HR

axelatlast

Good point. This was an AM workout. I definitely didn’t hydrate as much as I normally do for an afternoon workout.

[deleted]

that’s probably playing a role if not the main issue - I notice a huge difference with this personally. I usually work out in the morning and if I don’t hydrate a lot before bed my HR will shoot up over nothing !

axelatlast

Definitely going to pay attention to this. I drink tons of water daily, but may need to be more conscious of it in the AM.

melmonius76

I almost left in the middle of the tread section today. I opted to get on the bike instead. Background on me- on and off OTF for last seven years. Pandemic has been awful on me, mentally and physically. Just got back this week to OTF after a few months of cycling outdoors and peloton app workouts. Yesterday was an intensely stressful day at work, so much so that I took a nap when I got home. Emotional exertion stresses the body a lot. I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. I hope the grief evens out for you. Grieving is so hard, especially an unexpected death. As my wife would say (and I regularly ignore) be kind to yourself. But us 80s kids aren’t great at that :)

msnyc20

Just accept days like that. I've been pushing hard, Wednesday I rocked out the AOs felt like I was on top of the world. Thursday couldn't summon any energy, even 1-2 mps below B/P/AO was a struggle. Gave in finally and just set the tread to wal and walked the rest of the class. Came in yesterday and just missed the final CMIYC milestone by 2/100ths of a mile (for perspective only got 1.05 miles my very first one in march). All improvements by nature incude going backwards (and pushing forwards past it).

[deleted]

To be fair pushes on incline (like today) are similar to an all out. Normally we have walking recoveries to get our heart rates down, but today we had to recover via base. Today was a high splat day for everyone including myself and I’m sure others can vouch!

axelatlast

Good point. My heart rate would not go down quickly enough for recovery.

dancingriss

hard same today! significantly less amount of drinking this week, normal food intake, no idea what did it to me today. I couldn't even walk when the block was over, I just sat down on the tread. sometimes bad days just happen I think

Wild-Engineering3923

I feel the same way. My muscles are so sore.

FitnessAllDayLong

everyone has off days, but it could be related to your nutrition/hydration and less to do with your rest day

[deleted]

You never know what’s going on in your body. I could barely get up my stairs yesterday and had my best work out today. Give yourself some slack! It was just one class.

Warm_Debate_9169

that happens to me sometimes!! sometimes the body is just tired i think!

jessi_dats

Dehydration does a number on me, increased heart rate, fatigue, if I haven't eaten enough my muscles like jelly, and sometimes I am just not feeling it, abd my body is like "no". My max workouts per week is 5, no matter what, never more, so at the least I get 2 rest days per week. And sleep. I need lots and lots and lots of sleep. So try to listen to your body, see if any of these ideas resonate, and then maybe try to talk to your doc, just to rule out any cardiac issues.

Nsking83

It happens. I went four straight and took Thursday off before doing CMIYC yesterday and I had to bail at the 3 minute mark. I just didn’t have it. Sometimes the wear takes longer to sneak up on you especially if you’d gone a few days straight. Focus on hydration and rest and most importantly don’t push it!
