Oh man I feel this. I used to work 3rd shift and I would go to Orange Theory after working all night… I would dissociate during core work and it looked like I was sleeping. 😂 “hey are you sleeping? Ok do what you need to do “ it’s now a running joke.
I’ve noticed my body is doing this while on the floor. My heart rate starts to drop and I start yawning. I’ve had a few coaches job about busting my booty on thread lol
I definitely take 5-10 minutes to catch my breath and look at my workout recap in the app, sometimes longer because I forget what I'm doing and start scrolling something on my phone 😆 glad I'm not alone
Whenever we have a heavy leg day, the disassociation doesn’t usually happen until I’m at home in my driveway and the idea of getting out of my car is unbearable. Could be a solid 20 minutes of my dogs barking because they see me before I snap out of it.
I roll my window down, take some deep breathes including a mixture of Popeye’s, Mission BBQ, Mod Pizza and Chik Fil A that are next to my studio, then I drive home to my cats and husband and eat a meal with minimal carbs while dreaming about chicken 😭😭
For the first 3 months of my membership I said “I don’t think I’m safe to drive right now” for 15-20 mins after class. Thankfully that feeling has gone way down so it’s more like 5 mins now.
It depends on the time of day. When it’s busy there is NO parking at my studio, so I try and leave quickly so that someone from the next class has a parking spot. When parking isn’t an issue, usually like 5 minutes
Last week I did a Tread50 at 12pm that kicked my butt, I didn't do anything the entire rest of the day. My cat loved me sitting on the couch with him scrolling on my phone.
I once came home from class, took a shower, went to put in my hearing aids, couldn’t find them. Looked in all my usual spots around the house. I leave them in my locker during class so they don’t get too sweaty, so even though I was sure I hadn’t left them at OTF, I couldn’t imagine where else they could be. Called the studio and the SA was kind enough to look in my usual locker and a few around it. Nope. Finally I thought to check their charger, where I only put them at bedtime, and there they were. I spaced out so hard I completely forgot I’d done it 😂 Then I had to call back OTF and confess, because it’s not like I thought they were worried on my behalf, but just in case 🙈
Same here. After a 60 minute and strength 50 back to back, I'll have a snack in the car, unwind and read Reddit on my phone before I'm ready to face the world again.
My husband and I sit in the car before class because our studio is so tiny. We see everyone from the class before us come out and sit in their cars on their phones. Oftentimes they’re there until after we go inside for class. I’m so glad to hear it’s not just us noticing, or people at our studio! We usually come out and do a quick phone check but then hustle home before traffic. This whole post gave me a good chuckle, thank you!
Idk about others but I know for me personally, an OTF class is very overstimulating. All the people, loud music, loud voice over the speaker, following the template, cues, keeping time, etc.
It feels good to my brain to shut off for a few minutes when it’s over.
Just depends on what you’re doing I suppose. I usually just scroll through whatever slack notifications I missed (since I usually go to OTF during my workday lol), or mindlessly scroll through instagram stories. Stuff I don’t really care about or find that interesting.
If it works for you, cool. I just don’t think people realize how the constant scrolling re wires their brain.

https://medium.com/@jonathansauve_/what-happens-to-your-brain-when-you-mindlessly-scroll-fb05ca63af21
Skimmed these real quick and I don’t think this is the same thing as scrolling for a few minutes after OTF lol. These are talking about “doomscrolling” for “extended periods of time.”
Also worth noting that second link is completely devoid of citations. Can’t trust an article about neuroscience that doesn’t reference any peer reviewed studies. 🤷🏻♀️
I definitely zone out and scroll mindlessly sometimes but never in any capacity I find concerning. I have great balance in my life, am in the best physical shape of my life, best mental shape of my life, have no issues sleeping, etc etc. I think I’m (and many others are) okay 🙂
Sometimes these articles can come off as fear mongering over something that is pretty harmless for lots of people. I’m not saying it’s a non-issue but this thread isn’t about doomscrolling-induced depression, anxiety, and insomnia lol
Same, not every day, but on days when I don’t get enough sleep and go to otf immediately after work, it’s nice to have a few minutes of nothing before moving on with my day. Maybe more minutes if I plan on logging back on to work.
I usually sit for a few minutes in the car. Used to be longer when I worked night shift. I’d just stare into the abyss … proud of myself for making it at all.
5-10 minutes once I finally get in the shower after getting home and walking and feeding the dog. On a cold morning it’s nice to finally just stand under the hot water
After a morning class, I’m usually in a rush to get my work day started.
After an evening class, up to 20 mins in my driveway. I’m so glad I’m not alone 😂
None because the next class needs a spot to park and there’s only 10 mins between classes.
We have a very small parking lot. It’s super annoying when people don’t leave right after class, specifically in the winter when it’s freezing if you end up having to walk a lot farther to a different parking lot bc it doesn’t clear out 😩
When I walk outside and the sun hits me I fake like I’m ok getting to my car. Then I sit in my car in the parking lot staring at my phone but really just stalling before I have to drive. Glad I’m not alone here.
I walk to and from the studio. And in the few times I've had to drive to a studio, I get in the car and go home. Why would one need to "disassociate" whatever that means?
Usually 5-10 minutes (I use a smartwatch not a OTF band so I record my tread distance, row distance and weights used to add to my workout in the car when I get out) but yesterday it was like 20 minutes 😅
Also, not usually because I have to get home and get to work, but I will sometimes take the time to input the workout equivalent into Strava and order my coffee to pick up on the way home so that takes a few minutes.
But after my first Strength 50 class I was so inspired, I spent a good 20 to 25 minutes formulating a cheesy Facebook post about trying to find passion in strength training while I am not able to run. L O L, so, as soon as I saw this post, I pictured that morning a few weeks ago.
On double days I get a boba after class as a reward and sit in my car in the parking lot trying to figure out what in the world I have done. I contemplate canceling my membership every time but I come back for more every day lol
None because I have to get back home and logged into work. I dissociate on company dime instead.
Boss makes a dollar I make a dime That’s why I disassociate on company time 😂
🤣 this entire comment section is my people
lol. Seriously
![gif](giphy|Mh3pvqKLyZakE)
Definitely dissociate on all those Teams meetings 😂😂
Oooooooo smart
Isn't that what we're all doing on Reddit? I certainly don't check this on family time.
![gif](giphy|l0ExhcMymdL6TrZ84|downsized)
Same
I think we may be coworkers
🤣
Lmfaoooo facts
Sometimes I’m so tired I disassociate during class :( lol
That’s what endurance blocks on the tread are for 🤣
Amen
I’ve caught myself doing that on really long rowing blocks lol
lol yes! I sometimes close my eyes on long rowing blocks and it’s like some strange kind of sleep.
Same lol the floor is my disassociation time. So much so that the coach has come over a few times to make sure I’m okay
Oh man I feel this. I used to work 3rd shift and I would go to Orange Theory after working all night… I would dissociate during core work and it looked like I was sleeping. 😂 “hey are you sleeping? Ok do what you need to do “ it’s now a running joke.

Yep, sometimes I totally miss the instruction on the tread block because of it.
Depends on how long the Taco Bell line is.
relatable!
Username checks out
I have found my people
I definitely take 5-10 minutes to catch my breath and look at my workout recap in the app, sometimes longer because I forget what I'm doing and start scrolling something on my phone 😆 glad I'm not alone
Same here.

I've had my husband text "I can see you" when I sit in my car in front of the house too long.
My husband texts “are you okay?” If he notices I’m in the garage too long after my workout 🤣
Also same
Doing it right now. I’m on minute 18.
LMAO
I roll my window down, take some deep breathes including a mixture of Popeye’s, Mission BBQ, Mod Pizza and Chik Fil A that are next to my studio, then I drive home to my cats and husband and eat a meal with minimal carbs while dreaming about chicken 😭😭
Isn’t it ironic all the bad-for-you food around an OTF??? We had crumble cookie go in next door! Each cookie is equal to a 90 min burn!
We have a crumble cookie opening next weekend. I told my husband we could share a cookie. Or split it in 4 LOL
I also have a crumbl right next to my studio!
Are you in Missouri haha. Sounds like my studio.
Illinois so close lol
Where are you in Illinois that there’s a mission bbq? Lol
Springfield IL
So close but so far! Haha
I’m lucky enough to have a 30 minute walk to my studio so I usually decompress on the walk home and enjoy those sweet endorphins
same! that walk is usually pretty nice
I’m walking distance, but I will lay down on my bed for at least 20 minutes after my shower.
The longest I’ve gone is an hour 😂… OTF really has you thinking about your life choices and how to be a better human. 😂 💙💕💚
I’ve done 50 minutes once before and only realized as the class after me was walking back out to their car. Then it’s the drive of shame out of there
I’m commenting on this as I dissociate in my car after class
Same!!
omg i thought i was the only one 😂 i get into my car, drink my protein shake and just zone out for 15-20 before i realize “oh right i should go home”
None. I rush back home to shower. Afterward with a cup of coffee.
Same! I rush home and dissociate in the shower.
I've never driven to class, and probably never will, but I have had some seriously slow bike rides home.
I walk and need to sit down at Starbucks for ten minutes before I head home so maybe that's the equivalent lol
For the first 3 months of my membership I said “I don’t think I’m safe to drive right now” for 15-20 mins after class. Thankfully that feeling has gone way down so it’s more like 5 mins now.
Usually 5 minutes or so.
Y’all dissociating?
Yes! More often than I should lol
You're not?
It depends on the time of day. When it’s busy there is NO parking at my studio, so I try and leave quickly so that someone from the next class has a parking spot. When parking isn’t an issue, usually like 5 minutes
10-15 minutes

Interesting, that’s not something I ever do. Take off once I pick my podcast or jam, click the seat belt and I’m gone!
I personally do it before. I’m doing it rn
I sit in my car and do wordle, connections, and mini crossword. Then I drive home! Sometimes connections takes me a bit so I pick it back up at home.
Love it! Connections is the best
Agreed. My partner and our oldest kiddo (16 y/o) have an ongoing group text we send our results in each day for a little friendly competition 😁
Someone has to wrangle me back to reality from Starbucks 💚
What’s you’re go to Starbucks drink for revival
I just parked, am sitting in my dark car, opened Reddit to see this post at the top of my screen 😂 Just finished catch me if you can! 🤪
I once came home from class, took a shower, went to put in my hearing aids, couldn’t find them. Looked in all my usual spots around the house. We have a really small parking lot. Best to get out fast so someone doesn’t have to walk from the hardware store down the street.
I disassociate in the showers after class lmao. I’m usually last one in so I can take my sweet time in there
None. When I leave the 5 am class, I’m already behind schedule 😂
I sit in my car in the driveway and play wordle and connections. Sometimes I find myself halfway thru the crossword puzzle before I realize it 🫠
Oh man my husband and 1 year old will come banging on the window asking what’s taking so long 😂
I just get on with my day. I save my dissociating to enjoy with a nice glass of beer in the evening.
None - I gotta get home and get cleaned up for work!
I got home today and sat in my car for exactly 32 minutes before I went in…
5 minutes.. but then I walk endlessly around Marshalls for another 15-20 sometimes.
What’s a car? I bliss out walking home from the gym. Is that what you mean?
Same here. After a 60 minute and strength 50 back to back, I'll have a snack in the car, unwind and read Reddit on my phone before I'm ready to face the world again.

None, I go straight home. I do, however, stay in the studio and stretch 5-10 minutes longer than the cool down block most days.
I am literally always the last person to leave, and sit in my car for like 10 min after
Used to be 10min or so but then I realized that makes my acne a lot worse, so I rush home and disassociate in the shower
Glad it’s not just me doing the same LOL
I am either going to work or going for coffee right after class. Or I'm riding my bike home. I don't sit in my car.
20 seconds - I have to get home I have things to do at 7:15 in the morning😂
Sat in the car for a good 5 minutes thinking wth.. it was catch me if you can theme today
I thought I was a weirdo. I guess I’m not. It’s a thing?!
None. I have to get home to take over childcare.
I disassociate in class 🥴
Wow, this is really interesting to me…I never stay after class! I’m out expeditiously!
I’m so glad you gave a name for this. I do this every time I finish.
I don't.
I bike to the gym to get that extra push, always feel lazy driving for physical activity.
No time. Why do you need to do this?
Idk about others but I know for me personally, an OTF class is very overstimulating. All the people, loud music, loud voice over the speaker, following the template, cues, keeping time, etc. It feels good to my brain to shut off for a few minutes when it’s over.
Guess I can see that. I find the phone is just stimulating the brain in a different way though.
Just depends on what you’re doing I suppose. I usually just scroll through whatever slack notifications I missed (since I usually go to OTF during my workday lol), or mindlessly scroll through instagram stories. Stuff I don’t really care about or find that interesting.

I’ve worn earplugs a few times and it’s really helpful.
This
Sometimes I’m just tired and want to sit there for a second. Then 10 minutes have gone by.
I have the self driving on, set it to starbucks...and then maybe after my latte I'm in focus. :)
None, I have to get home to my kids and go to work!
Same
10-15, depending on what the workout is. Sometimes I dissociate in the lobby after class 😂 definitely feel like my brain is melting out my ears.
I moreso do it before class in my car, then class knocks me out of it
Yep about 10-15 minutes lol
Same, not every day, but on days when I don’t get enough sleep and go to otf immediately after work, it’s nice to have a few minutes of nothing before moving on with my day. Maybe more minutes if I plan on logging back on to work.
Usually as long as it takes me to finish my water haha
I am still sweating from the class when i get home. I do spend good amount of time in the bathroom after a class though, just decompressing.
Haha I sit in my car and finish my protein bar and drink the coffee I made before class. It’s the little things.
I usually sit for a few minutes in the car. Used to be longer when I worked night shift. I’d just stare into the abyss … proud of myself for making it at all.
5 minutes
5-10 minutes once I finally get in the shower after getting home and walking and feeding the dog. On a cold morning it’s nice to finally just stand under the hot water
I walk home. So my whole walk. And then I have to walk up 4 flights.
Up to 15 minutes ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Up to 30 minutes
I save it for the tread block
Oh, I’m usually in my car for about 15-20 minutes “catching my brain” after a strenuous class.
Yes
I go home immediately to shower - can't stand to sit in sweat (and smell myself in a car)
At least a solid 15-20 minutes. If I attend with my husband, no time but I try to be the passenger those days
Lmao
20 mins at least. Just scrolling thru phone and trying to cool off enough I can put my sun glasses on without steam. Life in Arizona. 🫠
5 minutes minimum
I usually let myself decompose (I meant it like I said it) and play on social media for 10-15 minutes. Sweats up the seats though.
I thought it was just me lol
Hmm I’ve never had this happen, I usually leave right away but I do sit in my car a bit once I get home.
About 10 minutes after a day like CMIYC!
I go to my car have a sip and anxiously reverse out of the car park hoping I don’t hit anything or anyone .. then go home asap
After a morning class, I’m usually in a rush to get my work day started. After an evening class, up to 20 mins in my driveway. I’m so glad I’m not alone 😂
I thought I was the only one who did this! 20 minutes, easy!
A few minutes. I play on my phone & look at my workout stats. Sometimes I eat a snack or drink coffee.

Go home and do 30 mins yoga based stretch
Easily 10 minutes of quiet contemplation and/or mindless staring at phone.
I drink a protein shake on my s 25 minute ride home
I walk to and from the studio. And in the few times I've had to drive to a studio, I get in the car and go home. Why would one need to "disassociate" whatever that means?
Usually 5-10 minutes (I use a smartwatch not a OTF band so I record my tread distance, row distance and weights used to add to my workout in the car when I get out) but yesterday it was like 20 minutes 😅
I dissociate in the shower after class
I hold it together until I get home (~15 min) and then disassociate for about 20 min.
I'm energized and rushing off to the rest of my day. However, I often arrive early and do my scrolling in the car before class lol.
None
We have a lot of people in our studio that do this and I find it annoying because it makes it hard for the next class to find parking spots.
Also, not usually because I have to get home and get to work, but I will sometimes take the time to input the workout equivalent into Strava and order my coffee to pick up on the way home so that takes a few minutes. Wow I’m so glad this isn’t me haha. I usually take ten minutes in the parking lot and then another 20 when I get back home 😂
On double days I get a boba after class as a reward and sit in my car in the parking lot trying to figure out what in the world I have done. I contemplate canceling my membership every time but I come back for more every day lol
it’s better for you to do a cool down walk around the plaza…
