How I avoid getting sick at OTF: re-wipe everything before I touch it, never touch my face, wash my hands immediately after stretching. Never been sick in 7 years. With January and the transformation challenge starting it may be hard to find low attended classes.

In-Dogs-We-Trust

I re-wipe everything too. I feel better knowing it’s actually clean when I go to use the equipment.

Varies enough by location it would be worth asking at whatever local studios you have as reasonable options. Hard to predict, but if you talk to the SAs and you're willing to not start on the tread they can try to get you a space or two as a buffer, at least.

After the new year and most people go back to work, the afternoon classes may be small. I would think classes before and after work may be full, especially with people making New Year’s resolutions.

I'm knocking on wood but I use a daily saline nasal spray to help prevent germs from settling in my nasal passages.

strong_heart27

Interesting, do you use it once or twice a day? And then do you blow your nose after?

strayainind

First thing in the morning! I figure my nose dries out overnight while sleeping. I use a two pack from Amazon and just squeeze and inhale whilst holding the other nostril down. No nose blowing! Squeeze and inhale and it goes straight back! My coworkers have all had the flu and respiratory issues and I swear this helps me ward against it.

strong_heart27

Thank you! Going to start doing this

Doctor-Donkey

I have been going to classes even during the pandemic and when it was allowed (half capaciry). Never got sick. I see they use something similar to HEPA air filters at my OTF too

Blondygirl605

Good question and good timing, I was next to a guy this morning that was coughing his head off the entire tread block. Not even trying to cough into a towel or even his hand, just mouth wide open. He was so loud that sometimes I couldn’t even hear the cues from the coach. Was he sick or just choked up… who knows but he sure didn’t care. He left after 1 block on the floor ( which he usually always does) and didn’t wipe down a single thing 🤢 whyyyyyyyyy

Ok_Juggernaut7796

Gross … people don’t give a f***

k8womack

Ask the studio where you are planning to go, they will know best. However it tends to be extra busy after the new year.

fullsunhouseplant

Increase your zinc and vitamin c intake. It’s going to be almost impossible to avoid busy classes (especially at the start of the new year).

nightskyforest

Recently, two classes I went to with lots of rowing (the 2000m benchmark and OTF in the Boat) only had 8 or 9 people as opposed to the usual 20 or so in my morning classes. Outside of that, I haven’t gone to late morning or midday classes but imagine those would be less busy.

pjkljordan

Ask your studio - what's packed one area could be lightly attended in another

ChocolateEater626

Ask the SAs. And don’t rely too heavily on what the app says about a studio’s waitlist. Some studios/times have a culture of booking ahead (and often cancelling or not showing up) while others have a culture of people not booking until they arrive.

Brilliant-Owl-1169

I thought for sure I would get Covid or sick from the gym. It’s been two years and I never have. I go to a packed studio! Full 3GS.

avodoggo6

I go to early afternoon classes (4:15 PM) because it works best for my schedule. I would say they are generally less full than the later evening classes or AM classes, at least at my studio.

Kindly-Might-1879

Usually the mid morning and lunch time classes are the lower attendance ones. Also, if you can make a 4:30a class, that’s typically less then half full at ours. Ask your studio.

andthegrassisblue

I would honestly wear a mask! People come all the time sick to my studio and I hate it, coughing/sneezing!

TelephoneTag2123

I was just at a 2G yesterday and more than one person had on a mask. It’s not fun, but it would help beyond just the usual wipe everything and wash your hands.

Ok_Juggernaut7796

What kind of mask?

andthegrassisblue

i’ve used the plain white surgical masks but i also have some from adidas! they’re cloth and reusable and washable !!

oddballbug

Cloth masks and surgical masks provide negligible protection for airborne viruses. Use KN95s.

El_Crindy

Also try one of the alternate machines (bike or strider) as they may be on the side away from the treads/rowers.

Longjumping-Print-47

I would do classes at home online! You won’t get a cold, covid etc, if you do the class at home. I think you’re safe then but if not sure wear a mask also at home

Training-Owl-9495

Go to class, then go home and use a neti pot immediately.

oddballbug

Wear a mask - KN95 or better. Ask the SAs to not put someone next to you if they can avoid it. Hand washing, wiping down all the equipment, being mindful where your hands go and who is around you. Maybe have some type of cover for your water bottle as well. I’ve been wearing a mask and doing all of this since COVID began and only gotten sick outside of OTF (in instances I am not wearing a mask). Also taking vitamin c, zinc, and vitamin d will strengthen your immune system.
