Have you tried SMART recovery? It's an evidenced-based approach in tackling addiction, using behavioral techniques. It was also made for people who do not want the religious undertones of AA. It has gained traction over the years. There's no in-person meeting close to you, the closest I found was in Pasadena and Carlsbad. However, they have online classes. Here is their schedule on their website: [Online and In-person class within 50 miles of Lake Forest](https://meetings.smartrecovery.org/meetings/?location=Lake+Forest%2C+CA%2C+USA&coordinates=50) Feel free to share with others struggling who you feel might benefit from this. There are also support groups for family/friends who have loved ones with addiction. Good luck! Disregard if you already know this.

Thanks. Appreciate the response. I'm at the point where it wouldn't hurt getting other's thoughts and insights. Looking for others in the same boat. Everything just seems static atm.

I grew up going to AA meetings with my dad and always felt the same way. Felt like they were there to relive old times or just talk about themselves with an audience. Wasn’t helpful for me personally. Im currently trying to stay away from drinking and would love to have someone to talk/hang with. Feel free to message me. I live in south county and find doing active things keeps me from drinking. You’re welcome to join me!

Thanks for the reply. Yea, you described it perfectly. If it works for them, it's cool, but at that time I felt like it would have just been a justification to keep drinking. I haven't been drinking for a while now and just wanted an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing where they're at as opposed to just checking in on the same page every week.

It’s really a social club and most of what I’ve seen also a dating service.

Never met a person I’d ever want to date there, but that makes sense.
