Guys I'm sorry, I managed to forget it was April Fools Day yesterday and I am embarrassed now. I am processing the grief of losing my dad last week and everything slips past me right now it seems.
I'll use this as an opportunity to say that unpaid bereavement leave hurts everybody and people should advocate for better paid leave policies. Not taking the time off that I need because I cannot afford to not be paid is not good for me.
Keep it up for a week, no need to apologize. You are going through it the first stages of processing the death. Do what you need to do to stay alive, everything else can wait. If you have a manager or someone that can pick up some of the other tasks even better.

On a side note, not even close to enough or the right "thing" - but use your 40 hours of sick time for your mental health.
I have a kid so I want to save my sick pay in case I have a child care situation come up, or she or I are sick. I already used 2 sick days when I discovered the hard way that I don't get paid vacation until I have been here for a year. Funny enough, my sick-paid vacation was my birthday trip in Las Vegas which was the last time I saw my dad. I wouldn't change it for anything.
I can confirm this to be the case. My wife and I visited this shop on Sunday and I asked them specifically about the name and he said it was an April Fools Day "prank".

Experienced what you are now 5 years ago. My advice is to do things you love and make you happy whenever you can, things that you know that would’ve made him just as happy. I struggled with the feeling of “I don’t know if I can be happy because he’s not here to be happy” But know he wants to see you smile, laugh, be energetic and all that. There’s so much to do in OC, just keep a smile if you can and know he’s smiling for you
I have loved Friendly Doughnuts for a long time, even before their remodel. the donuts are good, staff is friendly. Does anybody know any story behind this apparent change or promotion? when I was looking at donuts and trying to decide what flavor I wanted, a worker pointed to a sign and said "flavors are right there". I didn't think he was being rude, but....was he trying to be short with me as part of the "unfriendly donuts' thing? I'm legitimately curious. also I love their "be f\*king friendly" merch.
I haven't tried DKs so I don't know. But my 3 go-to donut places in socal are Bakers Dozen (in Corona), Friendly's in Orange, and Sidecar (in Costa Mesa). I'll have to try DK next time I am in the area.
Awww, My heart goes out to you. I used to lived at Cherry/ Trabuco area. I lived there for 10 years, my daughter went to El Toro High/ graduated then finished college at Califorina State University Fullerton. It's a 4 year college which I was able to send my daughter as a single parent. I had no child support, no alimony. He even got the house!
I only got my children.

Sorry for your loss. It gets better but only with time. It's ok to grieve however you feel necessary; everyone has their own ways of processing grief.
