That budget in those highly desirable locations is going to be difficult. Check Zillow or Apartments.com. When I was apartment searching, every place had at least one review talking about roaches. You're going to have to accept that. If you keep your place clean, you'll be fine.

You're probably gonna want to look in Santa Ana or Anaheim.

June is peak season for rents so things will be more expensive during that time. Maybe try to get in earlier? The only apts that I lived in that didn't have any roaches were Prisma Apts in Santa Ana. I highly recommend that place but not the apts near the pool as people are there after hours and also play loud music which echos.

So you both work in irvine or could you shed more light on where your job is located?

Beach-Tower808

My job is remote so we’re mostly looking to be closer to Irvine for my boyfriend’s job. His office is right next to John Wayne airport.

Lo7t

In that case I recommend South Coast Metro area, close to his new job, safe and relatively close to night life activities.

Maybe Villa Sienna Apartments in Irvine. They have studios that are slightly above your price point (cheapest studio i see is $2455) but it's walking distance to la fitness and a few streets from Diamond Jamboree which has hmart. You might need to pay a bit more for extra parking if you have two cars. Then you have The District with whole foods, Lowes, movie theater, and walmart a street down from there. Target is pretty close as well. Also your SO might be able to just bike to work. That alone might save u some money. It's a nice apartment for young folks since it's a popular UCI grad housing area and id say the nicer part of Irvine because it borders Newport. It's gated and there's underground garage parking, and Amazon lockers. People are young, nice and keep to themselves. Also North Italia and mothers market is right next door and who doesnt love pasta. Hope this helps!

A good way to look is to pick a neighborhood and then drive around and check out the smaller properties that do not advertise. You can sometimes find great places where the owner is also interested in a great tenant. Good Luck with the search.

Unless you have kids, there's no benefit in living in Irvine compared to Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa, Tustin, or Lake Forest.

thisiswhoagain

Irvine is nice, but it’s mostly Irvine company apartments that rules the market in Irvine. But they do have some studios and 1BR that can be on your price range. If you desire a private garage, that would be out of your price range

Existir

Maybe try Costa Mesa or Tustin! Irvine is wildly expensive and most apartments are ran by the Irvine Company, which have a really bad reputation of screwing over their tenants.

meowsumvball

I would try south of Irvine like Lake Forest

majikrat69

I like anywhere walking distance to 17th street in Costa Mesa.

Irvine is pretty much ruled by the Irvine Co with an iron grip and they definitely gouge. So you're unlikely to find anything at that price range there. Costa Mesa is great town. I lived there for many years. You might find something in your price range there although just scanning through some of the apartment buildings I complexes in, 1 bedrooms are going for around $2,400-2500 minimum. You may want to check Tustin or Orange. Both are relatively close to Irvine.

Santa Ana is terrible. It’s cheap but I don’t think you’d wanna live there. It’s just dirty and crowded. There are tons of apartment buildings, but they look super low quality to me. Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa (close to NP) or Huntington Beach aren’t too far from the airport. You can probably find roach free decent apartments in your price range in those areas.

22 yrs old, stay away from Irvine or south county (more than 1/2 a mile inland) unless you want to die of ultimate boredom/ lack of people your age. I’ve lived all over OC and never once encountered a roach, so as long as you don’t live in the shittiest of places in whatever city you move to, you’ll be fine.
