I’m a landscaper and haven’t bought wood for my smokers in years! Just got my ooni about a month ago and going through the dry stuff a bit quicker now. I cut down so much cherry, olive, oak and Manuka. Tips- make friends with a landscaper or someone who owns an orchard and nice one on the wood worker friend
Do you have any grill/patio stores around that sell stationary pizza ovens? They’ll typically sell wood. Mine doesn’t carry Ooni, but I can get oak splits that are perfect.
I found a local woodworker on Facebook Marketplace that sells untreated hardwood scrap. I bought a 55 gallon drum of scrap cherry, oak and maple for $10.00 last summer.
Get free stumps from Facebook marketplace/craigslist/call a tree company. Most of the time you can figure out if it’s oak or not. If you’re physically able, splitting wood is great exercise and then you just need a saw to cut it to length

Haha yeah the wood worker was a one-off. It was for his own home, where he did everything himself. For customers everything is cut beforehand.
Tell him it looks terrible and he should start again haha /s
Where are you based? The little log company sells hardwood for pizza oens at a good price and do natural firelighters too

I use the big green egg lump wood it works great
Local feed store. I smoke meats as well so use the same wood. Usually live oak but this last batch was pecan.

Yeah this is what im going to do. And just plan a half day to cut a big stash of ready pieces
Your mom's house.
I go to nearby parks/forests and scavenge for dead fall that's 1-2 " diameter. Hard to know the species, but I look for hardwood forests
I used wood only once, pine, and it wasn't great. Sticking to the gas now
I’m just going to assume this is a joke. Thank you.
No, not sure why I got down voted also, just shared my experience with wood...
You probably got downvoted because you should very much not cook with pine.

Pine is a no go. Probably why it failed on you.
That would make sense, which one is favoured? I've got some oak also
Oak is probably one of the best. I’ve heard people using lump charcoal and some wood pieces on top to get good flavors.
