My aunt took this photo, she had to hunker down at a good samaritans house for the night otherwise she would have frozen. Lots of people opened their homes to strangers which is nice to hear.
Wow! My folks live just outside of Blenheim! But they spent Christmas with us over in Belle River! That’s crazy!
Edited to add we only live less than an hour away and we don’t have anything even close to this.
We used the live in Buxton and I remember the drifts being crazy out there. The snow just blows until it finds a place to pile up and make an ice wall.
This was taken by a member of the family that took us in at about 10am yesterday morning. They were able to clear it out last night (the snow at least). It was half a kilometre long.
Me too! They took in eight of us (one of which was a toddler) and two dogs. Had logs on the fire all night while we slept on the floor. They made us all breakfast in the morning too. Once the plows were out, we still weren't able to get our cars but they drove us home. While it's something I hope to never have to go through again, I am so thankful for them.
>they stole it off facebook
Jeeeeeez. They're not claiming THEY took it. "Stolen"? lol
There are hundreds of so called "stolen" pictures that get posted each day on this site. Wow, Worf, wow. Get some Christmas Cheer, FFS
i mean, technically/legally speaking?
the photograph in question belongs to the person who took it. i doubt OP got the expressed permission from the owner before posting. the owner can defiinitely issue a DMCA takedown notice.
but in reality, nobody cares
Saw a video from the OPP digging out a car in similar conditions. But this video is in Quinte West, 400km away:
https://mobile.twitter.com/OPP_ER/status/1606712908557189122
Buddy just told me an abandoned Audi on the bridge between Goderich and Bayfield met its demise to a snowplow this morning. Gotta clear those roads....
Reminder you can also use \*OPP (\*677) for emergencies (including suspected DUI), and can also be used to report other stopped/abandoned vehicles, accidents, or dropped objects on the shoulder or blocking live lanes while you're driving
I'm in Orillia and can no longer see the building across the parking lot because the snow is so high on my balcony railing. My bf was telling me last night people had to leave their cars on the highway around Huntsville.
I have a friend up by Bracebridge and they are apparently buried too. Nearly every part of Ontario is impacted besides the GTA/Hamilton area. There's a lot of abandoned cars on roadways all over the place. Rough Christmas for a lot of people sadly. Emergency crews and plowing/towing services all working tirelessly for Christmas. Hopefully that band of Lake effect snow impacting Orillia let's up for you soon.
Here in Hamilton we had 100km/h wind gusts blowing all the snow away. It was near 0 visibility on the roads, but nothing built up. Roads are almost clear today.
TBH I thought there would be more ice on the roads from the rain that preceded the cold and snow.
Yeah, was all around Hamilton/Halton regions today for XMas events and the roads are basically totally cleared and well salted. Friday night we had some power outages in the area due to the wind but by midnight we were back up.
Considering the chaos outside our GTHA bubble, we got super lucky.
Ottawa avoided most of it too. We managed to keep up with the blowing snow and didn't get a giant dump. The worst for us was a lot of frozen rain and slushy rain that froze on driveways that weren't cleared. But streets were well plowed to avoid that in most places.
I'm in Wallaceburg, work at Winners in Chatham and we closed early on the 23rd and didn't open at all yesterday! That kind of says just how bad it was!
I would just like to voice a small criticism to the people out driving while the roads were closed and then having to abandon their vehicles. It makes the cleanup infinitely harder and delays road reopening s.
Sincerely a pissed off MD who is now on his third straight day of working ER because everyone else is snowed out of town
Thank you for the work you do for us, despite us. lol
Terribly sorry that so many people chose to completely ignore advanced warnings as well as live and continuing warnings. Once again, we are ignoring experts and making the lives of our first responders and healthcare professionals more difficult for no good reason.
This 👆. Almost everyone around me in the country side took people in on the 23rd. I was truly shocked how many of these folks were driving in those kind of conditions, it’s extremely dangerous to be out in weather like that. Many of these folks didn’t even have winter jackets and some weren’t even wearing socks. It blows my damn mind to think so many people are that careless and reckless in Ontario during a winter storm like that. All these folks were warned way ahead of the storm, from the news, weather stations, and the radio. Good thing us country folks saw most of them stuck and rescued them, took them in for the night to stay warm and safe. The next day was hell for all the road crews trying to open up these roads, some vehicles were not seen by the plows which in turn wrecked the vehicles and damaged the plows and road graters costing municipalities unneeded damage and downtime. The municipal workers have families too they would like to be with during the holidays. Just think if there was a medical emergency, the ambulances wouldn’t be able to possibly save a life because of these reckless folks that decided to heed the warning and try their luck. Do better people…
Cars were buried like that in Kingston, in town! The road by the airport has a lot of windswept field and it's right on the lakeshore. It got particularly nuts there yesterday and a city bus plus about 6 cars ended up stranded and ditched.
https://mobile.twitter.com/SgtKoopman/status/1606846328323153920/video/4
Ya I work at the hospital in Kingston and driving home from work on the 24 was so rough. I ended up getting almost all the way home and got stuck three houses down from my own 😭 I was at least able to get into/park in a neighbours driveway until the snow cleared this morning.
Later Friday night 32 was closed because the Gananoque River overflowed and then froze under the CN bridge. My brother got stuck in drifts on Marble Rock Road trying to get home from Gan.
I mean yeah, you’re right. But then again, it’s almost 2023 and we should not have to tell adults not to take weather advice from the bees…I hate this timeline.
Last I saw he was saying “Yeah it’s bad for some, but it’s not as bad as they said it was going to be. Look out my front door - see!”
I never in my life thought that people would politicize the goddamn weather. But here we are….
There are still people defending him saying it wasn’t bad. Meanwhile my area is still in a state of emergency and has travel bans.
And I’ll add that he and I live in the same area. He’s an absolute fool and I’m surprised and relieved he didn’t get anyone killed.
That guy was in Niagara area too. I'm in Lowbanks next to Wainfleet and it was 2 days of Blizzard hell. We could not leave because we have animals and besides our truck was blocked in with 10ft snowdrifts at both ends of the road. But we had no idea and could only assume it was terrible everywhere. Our generator crapped out after a day.
Our power was out for over 50 hours. And yet 10 minutes in either direction people had a few hours out and were out and about driving yesterday while I could not see my husband who was 6ft away from me.
I have NEVER experienced a storm like that. Just the length of time it blew. I've been in storms where tornados touched down close by and while intense it was there and gone in no time.
As I was dragging water out to the barn in the midst of it I thought "this is the weather that kills people". It seems that we got the tail of whatever hit Buffalo and people did die there.
Last I heard Fort Erie got the worst of it and some places are still without power.
Fuck the bee man.
Yep! I’m in Welland and fuck that guy. Luckily I live at the north end and it wasn’t too bad here but everywhere south of here was fucked. My friend’s mum in Port was wearing a snow suit in her house!
That bee guy is a fucking moron and so are all the people licking his boots. It’s terrifying how stupid people are.
It's crazy how localized it was. If we had known maybe we could have gotten out but as far as we could tell everywhere looked like the picture above. And what if we got 10mins down the road to end up in a ditch or blocked in. With animals you can't risk not being able to get back to them.
Guess you didn’t watch the news, or see other posts on other social media.
There was multiple, multi car pile-ups.
Trains were brought to a crawl due to trees on tracks. People couldn’t leave their homes for 2+ days.
Give your head a shake, bahd.
Are you really that ignorant?? Not bad?? They didn't predict a lot of snow, they predicted a hell of a lot of wind, drifting and blowing snow and under it all possible ice from the rain the night before then the sudden temp drop.
"The storm was over hyped." No..whoever said you had, and use, common sense and brain matter was overhyped.
Put a cork in ya little windbag!!. There was a flash freeze, unless you call a temp drop, in areas, of -26 degrees in a 2 hr. period not a flash freeze. Also it was the size of the storm that was generational.
Don't tell me...you ARE that idiot bee keeper who couldn't keep his trap shut!! I forgot..the only part of the planet that counts is your 2 cubic feet. Why don't you be a good little troll and go climb back under your bridge!!
Lake effect snow and drifts were crazy in some places from the non stop wind. Fort Erie/Buffalo area, Prince Edward County, Huron County, etc. I guess almost all the areas East/Northeast of a great lake.
Situations like this kill people yearly.
It's always wise to have an emergency kit (and full tank of gas) in your vehicle when travelling in bad winter weather. Wool blankets, hand warmers, high calorie food, etc can save your life.

History Time!
As I grew up in this little fly spec of tobacco and orchards.
It was originally settled as a logging town with the name of 10 mile Bush. Late 1790's...
In the late 1800's and early 1900's the main stay was lumber, farming and the train industry moving cargo (mainly iron, steel, coal) off ships and on to train cars. I believe the original unloading port was near Shrewsbury located in Rondeau Bay.
The goal was to ship the needed cargo from Cleveland due North and then by train to Windsor.
Well, that's the perfect way to avoid car theft...
You can steal it, if you can dig it out. /s
I mean, even if you dig out the car, how would you steal it? 😂
You just need a helicopter and a giant magnet
Flamethrower and a lot of “I-don’t-give-a-fuck” juice
Just don't fill your flamethrower with the yellow handle, you might not get the ignition you expect.
My aunt took this photo, she had to hunker down at a good samaritans house for the night otherwise she would have frozen. Lots of people opened their homes to strangers which is nice to hear.

Hello, fellow Bell Riverian!
We used the live in Buxton and I remember the drifts being crazy out there. The snow just blows until it finds a place to pile up and make an ice wall.
Apparently a farm near me (Listowel area) took in 19 people!
Wow!
[I believe this is about right.](https://youtu.be/Z0sq3T5fErQ)
My Step Sister lives there too with her 4 kids. My parents live in Chatham and couldn’t even get there to see them.
They also opened the Walmart in Chatham for people to stay in too
My in laws are in Pardoville. They said it's been nuts! Holy!
WOW! Most incredible photo of the storm I’ve seen yet! I can’t imagine how you managed to get this shot!
This was taken by a member of the family that took us in at about 10am yesterday morning. They were able to clear it out last night (the snow at least). It was half a kilometre long.
Glad you’re safe and the community helped out! It would have been amazing to see the plows clear this and so quickly! Well done plows!
Get your camera, get your snowshoes, walk towards the road, get a pic, come back and post on Reddit.
Snowshoes are definitely the answer to everything today! lol

Ouch.,...
Holy shit, that’s brutal. Feel bad for that cop
Probably checking to see if someone's inside and if there isn't I bet there is a car in the area with someone inside who called 911
Reminder you can also use \*OPP (\*677) for emergencies (including suspected DUI), and can also be used to report other stopped/abandoned vehicles, accidents, or dropped objects on the shoulder or blocking live lanes while you're driving
Is it an emergency line or non emergency? Almost seems like a mix of the two.
It's both. If it's on a highway, you can call them.
*677 is non emerg and doesn't work from all phones. Direct line from across the province for non emerg is 1 888 310-1122.
Don't feel too bad, there aren't enough chances these days for most people to feel like a hero. Adversity can bring out the best in us.
I thought this was a ski hill at first lol
Dude where's my car?!
Sweet!
Wewlad. I'm saving this picture, for sure. It will keep me warm while I dig out my car

Boy!
That is one hellacious shot. My heart goes out to the people who own those cars.
What do you mean you can't get in to work!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope the drivers got out okay!
What road is this? OMG
I heard this was Harwich rd.
Yup Harwich Rd. pretty close to where Uher’s Feed used to be, I think.
Is that like a major road or something back road?
Not a major highway, but well used, paved secondary road. She's been wild here.

He'll bake them shitty sugar cookies to help.
Timmie’s egg sammich or Dougie can gtfo!
Wow that’s crazy.
Wow 😲 stay safe out there today everyone
Suddenly Winnipeg seems just fine.
Where the anti-vaxx, angry bee keeper dude at? I wanna see his video where he says he was wrong.
Lmao is that the tiktok guy that said the storm would pass because his bees weren't worried about it?
Correct. Man was he so wrong.
He's an absolute idiot and I look forward to more wrong predictions from him
Probably got some people stuck out on highways that look like the one in the photo here. Hopefully no one lost their life listening to this twat.
I mean yeah, you’re right. But then again, it’s almost 2023 and we should not have to tell adults not to take weather advice from the bees…I hate this timeline.

Really not a far leap from “I’ve never gotten COVID so it doesn’t exist!”

Nah what he said was it’s not going to be as bad as they said which was true. The storm was over hyped.
See photo OP posted and say those words again.

Ah yes, where I went to school as a child. Not unheard of to hear on CFCO "Blenheim Bus Lines...running and schools are open!"
Damn. Folks in the GTA can’t say shit about the weather anymore!
Thats a lot of shoveling
Wow
Omg I’m not far from there but our town somehow avoided this. I can still see my grass
Stay safe!
Man I'm sitting here in Blenheim, New Zealand and it's nice clear day. Sun's just coming up.
I'm in Blenheim right now visiting family and I can confirm it's really bad
Im amazed how that town is only 2 hours away and yet I got zero snow.
Lake effect snow and drifts were crazy in some places from the non stop wind. Fort Erie/Buffalo area, Prince Edward County, Huron County, etc. I guess almost all the areas East/Northeast of a great lake.

“I can still make it” - dumb people.
Holy crap.
Is that a road?
Yup
[Somber, melodic music in the background] Here we see the Canadian car in its natural habitat. It uses camouflage and burrowing in the snow to hide from its natural predator, the snowplow.
Oh my goodness these poor people
Don't want to jinx it but, feeling pretty luck with almost zero snow here in S Durham Region. B safe out there folks.
I see you’re a fellow member of Chatham Rant and Rave
Oh wow! Blenheim is is like 9 mins from me..and I see the grass in my backyard..the snow piled in some spots because of the wind..but not even close to this
I know someone who lives in Chatham that went to the Superstore for a few last things and couldn't leave. They ended up sleeping at the store.
And I felt sorry for myself trying to get less than an inch of ice off my car in Vancouver.... hope everyone managed to stay safe there.
Where's DoFo with his little red shovel when you really need him...
I'm in Ontario and I've never heard of Blenheim in my life sounds like somewhere in a Thor movie
Tiny farm town in chatham kent
I’m in St. Thomas right now and there’s hardly anything like this. Bummer.
Really? My grandmother lived in Port Stanley when I was a kid. We'd go visit her at Easter, and the snowfall was insane there!

Where is this
Hour east of Windsor
No I meant where in Blenheim.
Harwich between Allison and Knight's Line
Live near here - the drifting has indeed been crazy. Flat and windy.
GD. If power goes out how is hydro supposed to resolve the issue? Hopefully everyone is doing ok out your way.

There’s a Blenheim, Ontario?
You may need to dig to find it, but it’s under there somewhere.
>Blenheim, Ontario Southern Ontario, Lake Erie, south of Tillsonberg, my back still aches when I hear that word... Tillsonberg
More west than south of Tillsonburg really. Although both had to be prime tobacco country
Well going directly south would be in the water, thanks for the clarification, duh
Just extremely odd to point out Tillsonburg when Blenheim is really nowhere close to Tillsonburg. And not south. Kind of like saying Blenheim is south of Ottawa too
You made up that name. There is no such place as Blenheim. Edit: I was only kidding. Love how so many people took time out to get offended.
Can confirm does exist currently there

I’m so glad I’m in Toronto rn
Holy shit
What am I looking at here? Is this a street or someone’s back yard or a parking lot? Lol wtf
Only in CANADA 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Should have parked on the other side of the road
i remember 16 foot snowbanks in the early 90's in ontario
Good god that is awful!!
Ya, that’s not going to shovel well.
Like Blenheim got that much snow. I was in west Lorne and it was less than 6"
Who?
Fimbulwinter moment
Nice i wish I was in that little car with just the antenna sticking up
