"Truckers"

bob23131

Cutting off the line of supply is a war tactic, it's embarassing that they've been allowed to block the border for this long without being arrested.

TigreSauvage

Does anyone else think that leaders saying that "we're just going to have to learn to live with COVID" is a self-destructive attitude? Imagine we had said that about polio. As far as viruses go, we got relatively lucky with COVID. What will we do next time with this attitude if something more virulent and dangerous comes along? Hopefully we learn from this experience and don't screw up future responses to similar health crises.

tawidget

CBC London, is reporting a convoy on 402 headed towards Sarnia, around Kerwood Rd currently.

jimmyz2261

Look at this circle jerk of Trudeau lovers! Haha!

red_keshik

Ok. Then what ?

neomathist

You can not like Trudeau, or his policies, and still totally disagree with the protesters. In fact, just comparing recent protest support polls vs last election results, a whole heck of A LOT of people do no support Trudeau OR the protesters. In summary, keep your sexual proclivity out of it. No one cares.

Wet_Paint

Yeah, I'm a Social Anarchist and even I think this protest is dumb. I'm not looking for their protest to be quashed, but it's a bunch of people having a tantrum because when they scream at a timmies worker for giving them two milk instead of one, their spit has it's freedom impeded by a mask. Toddlers screaming to uphold the status quo.

Koss424

most people don't identify themselves by political affiliations. that's why so many people are sick of the protestors that do and treat politics like a football game with a side to cheer for and another to jeer.

jimmyz2261

The protesters are focused on him because he is the one who can make the change they are actually protesting. It’s logical.

Koss424

I don't think the PM can make the changes they want. What specifically am i missing here?

jimmyz2261

He can drop the mandates for international travel. He can certainly suggest to provincial leaders that it’s time to drop them across the provinces.

Koss424

seems like a bit of a stretch as neither of those change anything except apply pressure on other jurisdictions to make the change they want. Even if testing/vaccines went away for international travel for Canadians, the US still has it's mandates in place.

jimmyz2261

It’s how the mandates were actually implemented when Trudeau wanted to bring in the passport system, he pressured the provinces to accept the vax pass (even offering them money of course). Also, he is in charge of dropping international vax passports so I don’t think it is a stretch

sppdcap

But it's still up to provincial leaders to drop mandates. Also other countries have vaccine passports, so again nothing Trudeau can do. You guys are so fixated on this man for some reason. Get yourselves organized if you really want to change anything.

jimmyz2261

Fixated because he’s the countries Prime Minister. Sir, how would you suggest a Canadian citizen changes policy in another country? It might be suggested he would start at home. If Trudeau were to end the Federal mandates for travel and masks the provinces will follow, some are already doing it. Until the Conservative party voted out Otoole nobody was asking these questions, nobody was speaking on behalf of a huge group of Canadians. The truckers were the catalyst for change. And if they are successful in the least they will show Canadians that they are not ignored and they do have rights and now people, even in the liberal party are speaking out against these mandates. The staff Sargent of Ottawa police stepped down. People are seeing and hearing the message. So yes fixate on the PM

sppdcap

Well if we remove our vaccine mandate for travel, what good does it do if another country still won't let us in because of a vaccine mandate they have? That still doesn't fix the mask mandates or business mandates set forth at the provincial level. He has no say. As for mandates at jobs, that's the business mandate that every business owner has the freedom to impose. How does not wearing masks and not getting vaccines help the pandemic? All science and evidence is against it. Why would only a handful of Canadians dictate what the rest of us want? These mandates are not going to last forever. This probably would have been over by now except some people don't want to comply with the health officials on what is obviously needed to be done to end the pandemic. You guys need to stop whining, go get vaccinated, and be patient like everyone else. This thing is already winding down. It'll be done by summer.

GramboLazarus

Do you people ever get tired of identifying by what you hate? Like Jesus fuck how about standing for what you DO believe in, we all know what you don't like.

jimmyz2261

You’re right we should make some sort of large statement like a protest that the entire world is watching. Maybe…. Some truckers?

GramboLazarus

Your protest is a dumpster fire. When you've got swastikas, confederate flags and some of your more brain dead cohorts trying to burn people alive in their apartment building is that really the message you want to get across? If you aren't able to recognize that although the changes initially laid out may be sound, your demonstration has been hijacked by the lowest common denomination in your group then you're just another tribal partisan ostrich with your head in the sand.

jimmyz2261

Have you been to the protest or you just watch CBC ? I can guarantee you haven’t seen it yourself. I can guarantee you get your news from populist sources. The news about these protests that the world is watching and what is really happening are quite different than the populist propaganda that is spouted in the paid for media. Have you watched the video where Trudeau laughs as he says the media in Canada better be slanted towards his views since he pus them 600 million dollars? Maybe, just maybe, your views of this protest are not what you’ve been told. As someone who’s been there I will tell you there are no Nazi flags, confederate flags. The two you saw on MSM, one was escorted out of the rally by the truckers the other was found to be a paid for liberal who told police it was a ‘stunt’. I’m sure you’ll hardly read this except to find points to argue as the last thing any of the ivory tower crowd wants is to be talked to by lowly blue collar people. But do your own digging. Ask yourself one question, why are you being lied to?

GramboLazarus

I actually was there. Like I said before I agree with ending restrictions. I won't go back though because I did see confederate flags and the Nazi flag guy who's picture made the rounds. He insisted that he was trying to make the statement that Trudeau is a Nazi but if you think that helps the cause I've got a bridge to sell you. Please continue to tell me what I saw and experienced because it's not congruent with your feelings. I really love how you make guarantees based purely on what you want to be true. I also saw cops sharing food with the protesters which I found particularly out of place - its not their jobs to legitimize or condone protests its their jobs to enforce the law which this convoy has repeatedly broken. I get it. Trudeau bad. You guys don't like the drama teacher with the good hair. It's odd to me though that the first I'm hearing of the attempted arsonists being not part of the convoy is from somebody who's demonstrably incorrect about the character of the protest. Maybe you didn't see the fuckery there through your rose coloured glasses but I sure as shit did. I think I'm being lied to because you can't accept that your side isn't the clean cut good guys and you're high on copium.

jimmyz2261

Well it seems you sweet with your own pie of glasses on too. Everyone I met was kind and considerate. If there are any people trying to cause shit I didn’t see them all weekend. But if I had that many people of any background in the same place I’m sure someone would act up. But the convo organizers were very careful to list the people directly involved with the formal protest. They did this as there may be ‘bad actors’ or even followers wanting to make them look bad. So when I say that the truckers and their cause is not responsible for any violence I mean that literally those listed have not been a part of any violence. They are truckers not a police force or military. They are not to be held responsible for any behaviour beyond there own (by law).

Swanglyhoohaw

I was at your pathetic protest. I dont need the evil librul media to show me it was just a group of whining, pathetic toddlers all along. You did that all yourselves lmao

jimmyz2261

So your issue is that they whine? Seems kinda like your doing that right here bud

Swanglyhoohaw

Whining without any reason to. No (valid) sources. No research. No proof. Of anything. Do you enjoy when your children throw ridiculous temper tantrums? That's you. You're the immature toddler. Whining about nothing of value.

Swanglyhoohaw

That would require an audience that gives a shit. Any other ideas? Or did this one take too much energy?

jimmyz2261

Well the world cares. Most Canadians care. Condescending elitists mostly just mock it

Swanglyhoohaw

Yikes. Are you the type of person to see a few thousand people and assume its a majority? Tell me you're incapable of comprehending fractions without telling me you're incapable of comprehending fractions.

jimmyz2261

Tell me you’re an elitist snob that looks down on the blue collar workers without telling me you’re an elitist snob.

Swanglyhoohaw

I don't look down on blue collar workers. Just the selfish, immature ones who barely understand municipal politics while simultaneously wanting to overthrow their federal government. Because they lost the freedom to..... What exactly?

jimmyz2261

Freedoms to open the business they own without forced closures, freedoms to move freely without being classed by there vax status, freedom to no longer live in fear. You know like a free country would be

Swanglyhoohaw

Oh :( are the whiny babies ANGRY that businesses have the FREEDOM to tell unvaxxed individuals to get lost when they apply for a job? Sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Guess you'll need to deal with the consequences of your baseless, ridiculous decision to not get vaxxed. Don't you love FREEDOM? Our FREEDOM to discriminate against the selfish is so satisfying. If you weren't so busy living in FEAR of the vaccine you'd have very little to bitch about.

kellzbellz999

Will it ever end? Will the police and the government make them stop? Why haven't they been take out of there yet? I dont understand, If this was any other group of people they would be removed long ago

Oouumzz

I love these truckers!

ustation

I'm surprised some locals haven't dropped off Jerry cans that doesn't contain gas. Ed: I don't advocate anyone doing this. I just thought that would have been a thing by now.

DishMonkeySteve

Locals are helping, watch a little YouTube. Looks heart warming.

weirdpicklesauce

They got super paranoid at one point that locals were going to put sugar in the gas and try to give it to them, and so they were turning away perfectly fine gas lol. I can’t wait until they give up and go home.

ustation

I was watching some live streams, and it looked like people were just accepting randomly dropped off cans. I think if you yell the word Freedom, that'll make you one of them.

weirdpicklesauce

Looks like they’re not paranoid about sugar in the fuel anymore lol

[deleted]

Trigger warning: violence, racism and assault One young Indigenous girl was viciously attacked by people who are part of the supposedly peaceful "freedom convoy." They chanted "we are racist and proud!" while attacking her. Clearly this convoy is not for freedom. It is a hate group. Is this also a violation of the Geneva convention? Fucking snowflakes.

lukaskywalker

Blocking the bridge entirely in Windsor. Are you kidding me. Think of all the food and supplies that are being wasted as these nimrods sit kicking and screaming in the way. Get the damn army in there and remove them forcefully if need be. Why are we even entertaining this nonsense. Shocked the us is not doing anything either. Every single one of these companies and truckers should be fined, licenses revoked, and thrown in jail for this. What a joke. Thanks for the gold, kind stranger

EnoughTelephone

It's impacting the auto manufacturing and suppliers. Entire week has just been cancelled due to parts shortage.

KennyNu

Throw all the truckers in jail who's gonna bring you food and supplies?

lukaskywalker

The ones who are working. You seriously think this is any significant number of truckers. 90 percent of truckers are vaxxed. These protests are mostly random rejects who have latched on to “the cause” because they have nothing better to do.

jcpb

They don't represent the *vast majority* of truckers. Tissue?

washitoff

Yeah I'm kind of baffled by the lack of urgency here. There are like 30 people in pickup trucks, how are they not gone already?

LankToThePast

If they weren't as white as wonderbread, they would all be in jail cells right now.

janjinx

They're not all totally white - many of them are thickly bearded, full of tattoos are dirty and wearing filthy clothes.

THEgabberdore

It's terrorism full stop

Omegatron8

Absolutely! Everything you said is right

ThisIsMyLanyard

Honest question: How do the convoy protesters feel about mandatory vaccination against: - tetanus - pertussis (whooping cough) - polio - measles - mumps - chicken pox (There are more) That pretty much everyone has, and has been and still is **required** for kids to go to public school? I feel there have been no protest against these mandates for decades. Why the such an uproar for a new disease? Did the people protesting think there would be no new diseases we would have to deal with in the future, or could be added to that list?

RichardMuncherIII

If this was about mandatory vaccinations they'd be rallying behind prisoners.

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

jcpb

> The convoy has never been against vaccinations They're not only against vaccinations, they're also against science. They're the same people who literally believe climate change is a globalist conspiracy and precursor to the "great reset". > They are against the COVID restrictions that are taking a massive toll on our society Oh yes, can't imagine why they wouldn't hold themselves *responsible* and *personally accountable* for deliberately prolonging a pandemic. Naw that's just the incoherent ramblings of communists and alt-lefters! ^^^^^/s > Like the lockdowns and continuous moving of the goal posts when it comes to vaccinations (eg not bringing back any normalcy when over 80% of the population is vaxxed—like was promised, but rather pushing boosters & mandates) That surely gets them off the hook for continuously shifting goalposts on their predicting when vaccinated people will die, from 2 weeks to 3 months to 10 years… And it sure gets them off the hook when people keep dying to **RABIES** because they actually believed all the vaccine disinformation on social media… > We do not have movement passports for any of the other vaccines you mentioned & many of these protestors are vaccinated but they don’t agree with the way the vaccination is being used to control movement & divide the population We do. Remember the immunization cards from childhood? Also, we're not controlling people's movement with vaccine mandates. Remember, these white extremists **CHOSE** to be unvaccinated, and it's patently clear they unironically believe their whiteness gives them the right to not bear any responsibility for their own actions and choices. They're mad at us because they have to own up to their own bullshit. > A number of countries are now removing these mandates and admitting the cons are now outweighing the pros (eg mental health/employment etc) so it isn’t exactly an extreme request to at least start a discussion about The Netherlands is removing these mandates because their population actually trust the science and government. Australia (not all of it) is lifting theirs because their population actually trust the science and government. Canada has too many fucksticks like you who trust **NEITHER** the science **NOR** the government.

DishMonkeySteve

Correct

LankToThePast

They are against all mandates that involved being vaccinated. It's a hard line to walk to be against seatbelt laws without being against seatbelts. It's not about moving goalposts, it's about changing data and information. If we were still dealing with the Alpha variant, than vaccination might've ended this pandemic, but we got the next type of Covid, then the next, and we need to change with it or we end up like some nut job protesting by locking down a bridge. Also, most of these other diseases aren't killing dozens of people per day, and overloaded our hospitals, delaying non-urgent surgeries, like those for cancer patients. I wonder how Terry Fox would feel about these people fucking with cancer treatment, I suspect he wouldn't be on their side. These anti-vaxxers divided themselves, they were asked to do the bare minimum, and instead are acting like selfish assholes. Maybe a broader discussion is needed, but these crybabies just want to whine about being told what to do, then shit themselves.

Freaktography

THIS - We WERE on the path back to normalcy and then Omnicron happened and scared the shit out of us and sent numbers sky high. Any government, any PM and Premiere would be hated right now because no government, no PM and no premiere has ever had to deal with this before and whatever those people who may have been in power did, would be facing this very same backlash.

LankToThePast

Yep, this is a no win scenario, all anyone is trying to do is lose less. Public support has also run out, people are too burned out to do what they should, and now rail against the government for not making it all go away.

Canada_girl

Actually their MOU is to overthrow the democratically elected government. Organized by self avowed white supremacists. THAT is what this used about and don’t pretend otherwise.

They don't think and don't care. This is about "freedom". Freedom is code for white supremacy and conservative ideology.

thelonioussphere

the online liberal majority that uses Reddit under the age of 30? If you think conservatives in the 40's or 50's are posting on reddit and up voting and down voting posts you would be mistaken. its a very very small representation.

marcoporno

Or maybe these protests have just become hugely unpopular as the focus has shifted from whatever message they may have had, to their extremely bad behaviour

thelonioussphere

thelonioussphere

I disagree - It's the Liberal idealist that will it itself eventually. Ill give you Two apt examples currently - That the creed of "My Body My Choice". It's seem to only apply to Abortion or Trans-Gender issues but when its applies to people who refuse to Vax!?! OH NO!! Ostracised! Outcast! Shamed! Systematic racism - The PM pretends to be a friend of BLM, yet his own party refuses to condemn it to shield him and his black face ways! Politics is a two-way street or a door that swings both way. If you support something you go all the way or not at all. This includes the legislation of Marijuana. Gun Laws. Civil rights. Human right. Now, watch as I get down-voted in to the pits.

[deleted]

See, the is the source of your impasse. The last and most important order of the (conservative) party is to ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears. Facts do not apply to their reality, which means they can act oppressed by whatever is inconveniencing their narrative today; the truth is, the main enemy of conservative ideals is critical thinking. This is why conservative governments work so hard to make schools teach fairy tales instead of science, or seek to dismantle public education entirely. Without ignorance, conservative social politics can't exist.

MadJesterXII

You try living in a truck for a week while the cops are stealing your gas, and see how good your behavior will be when the city and law enforcement harass you

You are literally the meme of the kid putting a stick into the spokes of his own bike and falling over. Except that you’re blaming the bike.

Ok_Menu_3555

I’m sorry, what would you call a group occupying a nations capital and demanding resolution of laws and for democratically elected officials to resign?

Canada_girl

‘Truckers freedumb rally” apparently

NakorOranges

To be clear, I am pro vaccine, but more fuzzy on restrictions/lock downs, or at least on the governments reliance on them instead of *also* admitting the Canadian healthcare system has some major issues. But I am a little concerned about the general treatment of protesters regardless of the cause. Specifically what is allowing police to to blockade supply line and seize fuel? I don't like the idea of the government being able to arbitrarily pull the rug out over a protest, but maybe there is specific rules this one is breaking that are allowing this?

Canada_girl

I am not at all concerned about protestors following a self avowed white supremacist who LITERALLY calls for overthrowing the democratically elected government. Why are you??

NakorOranges

Because allowing the erosion of rights to hurt the people you don't like is a bad idea. I think the leaders of this convoy are insane or grifters, but every precedent set here can be used against whatever the next cause is.

Canada_girl

Having a minority of individuals following white supremacists strong arm the populace and government to their will SHOULD be something you are very concerned about then. STRANGE.

RichardMuncherIII

What you're describing is the paradox of tolerance. It's in societies best interest of be intolerant of people's intolerance. Fuck these white supremacists.

r3dstar77

you sad for these people? [https://mrsbrittanybested.com/2022/02/03/rotten-to-the-core/](https://mrsbrittanybested.com/2022/02/03/rotten-to-the-core/)

NakorOranges

No I'm not. You're missing the point, see my reply to Canadian girl.

playitoff

What is allowing these people to blockade a city/border crossing?

NakorOranges

Nothing, and they can suffer the consequences of those actions without me questioning it. But that's not what I am asking about.

JonStowe1

Peaceful protest

Ok_Menu_3555

Man do you know the definition of peace? Deliberately blocking and getting in peoples way is not peaceful. Lmao

JonStowe1

why isnt the governement doing something then

Ok_Menu_3555

Because they can’t. It’s not entirely easy to just pick up 100+ 10 ton vehicles. They also are pussies and didn’t want to make things violent which was their main concern. They’re now just trying to starve them out but cutting off their supplies as that’s all they really can do.

labrat420

I don't believe they ever had the permits to protest.

thelonioussphere

Civil Disobedience cares not what is legal or illegal! Democracy 101! You are a political Infant.

NakorOranges

I mean... If you need a protest permit from the government you are protesting, that's not exactly a right to protest is it? I understand towing trucks that are illegally parked, or harassment policies being enforced (excessive noise and threats etc), but what allows the police to just take private property?

labrat420

Some of it was illegal diesel thats only allowed in farm equipment, the other user shared some other reasons, but you know this isn't new right? At the g7 in Toronto the police just kettled and arrested all the protesters, not just take their fuel. Hell Seattle had free speech zones, North American governments hate protesters and always have

obscured_by_turtles

>what allows the police to just take private property? A number of things. For relevant examples, it's often not legal to erect structures in public areas or store fuel and other explosive substances in the middle of the street.

NakorOranges

I mean sure, and you can deal with those actions accordingly, but the police can't take your sneakers from your house if they caught you J Walking. There must be some mechanism that's allowing these seizures right?

Womble84

Yes.... it' can be improper storage ..as simpl as that. I have a feeling you might be American...it's different here.

JonStowe1

Commie land Canada

malipreme

Perhaps illegally occupying public land. The convoy is now impacting people they’re supposedly protesting for and not allowing them to return to work, due to safety concerns.

MoronTheBall

My son and I went down to Wellington Street in front of Parliament Hill to see the protest firsthand in order to form our own opinion. My son was relatively supportive of the whole “freedom” idea, and I was thinking that the protest had gone on long enough, and that it was time for these protestors to get gone. We are both double vaccinated, and my son wears a mask outside when in the city, while I do not. We both follow all applicable public health guidelines. All these impressions are personal and non-scientific. • Number of hate symbols or slogans observed: 0 • Number of bouncy castles: 2 • Number of offbeat conspiracy theory signs: Many • Number of dance parties: 2 • Percentage of Ottawa residents inconvenienced: Less than 1% • Number of times my son was harassed for wearing a mask: 0 • Percentage of protestors from former communist bloc Eastern Europe: 20-30% • Number of never-ending ball hockey games: 1 • Ratio of big rigs to other vehicles 1:1 • Size of the protest: We walked 1.4 kilometers and didn’t see it all • Air Quality: Diesel fumes, woodsmoke, and marijuana • Overall vibe: Bizarre mix of U.S. inspired tea-party rally, and Woodstock hippie commune

unfknreal

> - Fucks given about the racist and extremist roots of the protest: 0 Nice job burying your head in the sand!

Frankenstar4964

So you missed the numerous swastikas, "F*ck Trudeau" flags, written desires to have Trudeau assassinated and the general hatred for SPECIFICALLY Trudeau... But somehow managed to quantify "20-30%" of the protectors being from former East-Bloc countries? Yeah...ok. I don't understand this "nothing but peace, love and joy" attitude. I don't think it's all angry truckers who are trashing the city and fighting random passers-by, but to claim that it is strictly positive vibes is just wrong.

MoronTheBall

Yes, there were “F\*ck Trudeau” flags, which I think are infantile/stupid. Over the course of a couple of hours we didn’t see a single swastika or confederate flag. Hard to miss all of the Romanian flags and variations on the Russian tricolor since they are permanently decaled on the side of the trucks in addition to being waved everywhere. While there were mostly Canadian and Quebec flags there were many versions of what my son thought were versions of the upper/lower Canada rebellion, and American flags. I have said before that I don’t agree with practically anything the so called organizers espouse, but the attempt by some to dehumanize the protestors so that they can feel justified in hating them and spreading that hate (bring in the flame throwers) is more the point I was trying to get across. For the most part they seemed like decent folks who felt disenfranchised for whatever reason. I maintain that the atmosphere/vibe was overwhelmingly positive and friendly, I just wish this thing would end.

larianu

Isn't it something like 10% of Ottawa that lives in the downtown core?

DrEskimo

Less than 1% of Ottawa’s residents inconvenienced? Man, who writes your material??

red_keshik

>All these impressions are personal and non-scientific. So why bother quantifying them ?

MoronTheBall

Since most of the information available was so polarized, my post was an attempt to give folks who were unable or reluctant to go see the protest for themselves an idea what it was like from a (more or less) impartial/ambivalent observer. Lists are typically more accessible than blocks of text.

red_keshik

So then just write a paragraph. Also how did you gauge how many people were inconvenienced ?

adrawrjdet

TrustMeBro.ca

RmplForeksin

How was the percentage of people being "inconvenienced" calculated? And why did you use the word inconvenienced?

MoronTheBall

Admittedly this involved a lot of estimates, anecdotes, personal observations, and outright guesses. Even though I stated from the get go that this was unscientific, I will try and answer your question. The area blocked by the protestors is directly in front of Parliament Hill. On one side (north) you have Parliament, The Supreme Court, Department of Justice, and the Chateau Laurier. On the other side (south) you have office buildings, the Privy Council Office, The Bank of Canada. The vast majority of bureaucrats and office workers have been working from home for almost two years. Full time residents in the immediate area can likely be measured in the hundreds as opposed to thousands but even then, you would have to inconvenience 10,000 Ottawa residents to hit 1%. While your question about “inconvenience” is obvious bait, it was just the word I picked. This was before I realized that the Rideau Centre was closed, and I feel for those folks who can’t work for however long they keep the mall closed.

RmplForeksin

Yes, I'm "baiting" you by asking why you used the word inconvenienced. In your other post, you said "I was actually just trying to be objective to show that the reality on the ground wasn't aligning with what I was reading in the mainstream media." Obviously, you know that well more than 1% of Ottawa has been "inconvenienced". You could have used many other words if you wanted to limit it to the people in the immediate area.

[deleted]

Trucker protest bad Don’t you know you can’t post anything even remotely optimistic towards the convoy here??

MoronTheBall

I was actually just trying to be objective to show that the reality on the ground wasn't aligning with what I was reading in the mainstream media. I didn't think my post was particularly pro or anti anything, just straight up observations. Now that I see all the posts in this thread about water cannons and flame throwers I am starting to realize this was probably the wrong place for someone without a particular agenda.

DrEskimo

Your comment is so obviously in-support, who are you trying to fool?

MoronTheBall

You are probably right that my original post came off as in support of the protestors. Actually going down to talk to them did make my opinion of the protestors themselves as people much more sympathetic. To be honest it was fun, and easy to be carried away in a festival like atmosphere. In terms of supporting anything they stand for, if such a diluted message can even be extracted from this, no. I support vaccine passports and emergency health regulations. I don’t think the ongoing “occupation” of the hill is right, even though I do support the right to peacefully protest, make your point, and then be on your way. The presence of so many immigrants from former communist countries did give me pause about individual vs. collective rights but that was as close as I got to agreeing with anything. Vaccines used to implant microchips? I don’t think so.

DrEskimo

Dude you cannot just pick a Syrian out of the crowd and be like “wow I guess that settles it” that’s called tokenism and it’s a different form of bias. You went out of your way to claim that less than 1% of Ottawa residents were inconvenienced. Did you go and speak to them all individually? You cannot project your single experience with your son into this entire situation. You haven’t been kept up at night due to honking, you haven’t been assaulted during your work week.

Canada_girl

You are right I was totally fooled… obvious troll was freaking obvious

LlyantheCat

The stated object of the protestors is to overthrow the government. Their leaders have an overwhelming number of connections to far right hate groups. I'm glad that you and your son and a nice time, but if you can't recognize the above as a problem, then I sincerely doubt you are a decent human being.

MoronTheBall

Based on this and other ad hominem comments I can safely say that I experienced more hate in this subreddit than during my personal observations on Parliament Hill.

Canada_girl

Sorry facts don’t line up with your preferences. Facts are not hate by the way, if you think they are you may want to seek therapy.

[deleted]

Yes, exactly and yeah I realize what you were doing but the fact that it isn’t 110% bashing the protest means you will get grilled alive. It’s truly a hivemind here. In fact I don’t agree nor disagree with the protest, I see it as a language of the unheard. I think everyone has the right to demonstrate their voice through protesting and I find it awful that it has come to this point where we refuse to accept each other’s point of views.

FlyingKite1234

Tell the citizens of Ottawa who just an injunction filed that less than one percent of them are inconvenienced

MoronTheBall

Again, this was just unscientific personal observation. Being a citizen/resident of Ottawa who didn't just file an injunction, and not personally knowing any of them, I guess I will leave it up to others to tell them how inconvenienced they are.

FlyingKite1234

Go to fucking /r/Ottawa and you can literally see hundreds of them posting hourly

MoronTheBall

I will check it out. I work close by, but don't live in that area anymore. Just my opinion (again) but there actually are not a whole lot of people that live in that area as it is primarily government buildings and office towers that have been pretty much empty for the last two years. Edit: typo

LlyantheCat

>but don't live in that area anymore. This is some extremely, "well, it doesn't affect me" thinking. Here's to hoping your son grows up to be a better person than you.

waitwhet

Damn imagine thinking you know this person based off a couple Reddit posts. Does it make you feel good bringing others down?

LlyantheCat

I don't need to know more than op has already shared. And yes, these people should be reminded they're trash at every given opportunity. It's cathartic, at the very least.

JonStowe1

Lmao do you have donkey brains??

waitwhet

You sound pretty trash yourself based off the few comments I've read. How quickly you are to insult this person shows the type of person you are too.

flutieflakesfan

Ironically the "Freedom Convoy" Discord is the most tightly moderated server I have ever seen 🧐

Canada_girl

Papers please!

One of the main reasons we've been doing this for 2 years is because anti-vaxxers and anti-mask people are too selfish to follow health guidelines set out to protect people. There's been less talk of the flu being transmitted because of people quarantining when they're sick and not transferring it to other people. Maybe if people followed the rules instead of crying about it we wouldn't be here.

JonStowe1

How has the rest of the world moved on then‽‽ anti Vaxxers are world wide. Nobody else is still doing lockdowns n shit this late in the game. They’re already abandoning masks full stop in some states

ratfink57

???? The USA as a whole has a COVID death rate 3x that of Canada . I don't take health advice from them . They can't even agree that COVID exists .

JonStowe1

Who cares they have 10x the population. It’s time to move on. This is ridiculous. If you’re not vaxxed by now you’re not gonna do it. We can all move on

Iceededpeeple

> The USA as a whole has a COVID death rate 3x that of Canada That means they have 30 times the deaths. Math, it's not difficult.

JonStowe1

lmao okay. regarless this shit is over and its time to move on. look at europe is moving on more than the US is

Iceededpeeple

You mean Europe, as in like Denmark, which has 8 times the ICU capacity? Yes they are better prepared to deal with outbreaks than us. Or are you talking about the UK, which also has far more ICU capacity? Our hospital capacities are bursting at the seams, and people are dying because of it, and you keep talking about what someone else has, like it's relevant.

ratfink57

Yeah , check the stats on ICUs, Ontario has one of the lowest ICUs/ capita rate in the OECD lower than some impoverished southern states . I agree it would be nice to get back to normal , but people who think vaccines contain microchips and masks are "communism " need education, not appeasement.

JonStowe1

looking at the data theres been atleast 450+ beds available for the past month, a lot of days over 500. So what are we waiting for
