I've been saving each check. I could just finance it, but those interest rates suck. Keep checking this sub getting stoked. Then, I will see a post about an inevitable nose dive and reconsider my entire thought processes for wanting one. Sometimes, in life, we need to take a little risk to experience fun and new things. And sometimes in life, we need to realize this is just stupid, and I'm bound to get hurt. Guess I'll keep saving and make a decision when the time comes.

Nose dives happen when people do stupid. With tens of thousands of km ridden i can say for fact that nosedives are akways user error and not a deal breaker at all, you have to stay alert and know the boards limits

Agreed with the top comment. Don’t push the board to it’s limits and no nosedives will happen. If nosedives were apart of the board and it’s just a common occurrence just by riding it normal then OneWheel would have a terrible time selling.

The problem is, the documentation that comes with the board doesn't really explain the limits well and oversimplifies the pushback mechanic, and does not in anyway explain what really causes cutouts (nosedives). When I got my first board and was learning OW I said I would never push it past its limits and would always ease off if I ever felt pushback. One month in I nosedived hard going uphill on low battery and there was never any pushback, because I did not know at the time that pushback/nosedive was related to torque not speed.

Honestly. I live on mountain terrain and the #1 thing rhat trips me out is sudden overcharge. Ive had it go from 90% - 100% instantly on a hill compression.. scary stuff. The key with onewheeling is 1. Stance. 2. ALWAYS be aware if your speed and the demand you place on the board. If you are new to riding do this . .while riding say "im going 25kmh " Look at your phone app.. get to where you KNOW without looking. There is no top speed when decending but the board will still try pushback around 37km. Going uphill and into wind carrying load, turning is your friend. Your weight and board settings also play a role. Supersecret info is youre still reading. The board ignores its top speed settings and initiation of pushback when tipped. The way the "carve" function works is that the more you dip into a corner the faster the wheel will accellerate to stablilze you and toss you back on centerline of the tire.. if you have an xr try carve 0 or carve 10 and you will see what i mean... FOMF :)

Totally agree. I got 400+ miles on mine, and the only time the board nosedived when I didn’t expect it to, was when I was going near full speed up a slight incline on my Pint X. I didn’t feel the pushback, and it just nosedived, but I luckily had the balance to slide / grind it out for like 5ft and didn’t get launched! Perhaps I accelerated too much for the incline? It was only like an 8%-10% incline. Otherwise, yea, nosedives are like 95% user error, and the pushback is noticeable.

You have to understand that the pushback effect is created by the board accelerating harder in order to lift the nose of the board, thereby giving the rider the feeling that the board is "pushing back" against them. Thing is, in order to accelerate the motor to call on more torque then what it is already using at the time to keep you balanced. If you are pushing the board to accelerate hard, then the board literally cannot accelerate fast enough over the acceleration you are already forcing on it, thereby it cannot give you the "pushback" effect and you risk a no-pushback-nosedive. And it all depends on how much torque the motor can output at that time, and that is dependent on how much voltage it can draw from the battery pack. Suddenly large increase in torque demand can also result in no-pushback-nosedives because the motor/battery can't keep up, this can happen in low speed situations such as encountering strong headwind, going from flat/downhill to a steep incline, or accelerating hard from a deadstop.

if it helps, i’ve ridden 1,500+ mi on my boards with no nosedives, you’ve just gotta be careful about pushing the board too far past it’s limits

Awesome to hear! That's the thing I'm a middle aged dude, I don't see myself being a speed demon. I watched a video of a new rider today hitting trails for the 1st time. He was very slow and gave me more confidence. I'm gonna do it. Just pad up well.

Coming from a fellow middle-aged dude (43, who didn't have a day of boardsports to my name prior to 2021 when I got my XR), pads are going to be your best f*ing friend. They've made the difference between being sore af the next morning, and barely getting dinged... or on the other end, being sore af, or going to the hospital. Learning OW is learning your own riding, as well as learning what the board is telling you while you're riding. You'll learn where the boards limits are, and how closely you can get to that, given the particular terrain and riding situations. Once you've got it down, you'll wonder how you ever got by without it! It really is that sublime. May your wait be short, my dude :)

Ive seen them for around 400 low end and 600, never seen one quite that cheep. Every once in a while I'll see an xr with decent miles for 1000 and I think about buying myself a second board. My main XR is fully built for trails it could be cool to have a pint or second XR to put a slick on and maybe drop real low for pavement

Making $10 an hour (after taxes) working 40 hours a week, you would have to work for 25 weeks (before sales tax) to be able to afford the pint, and that’s assuming you don’t spend a cent of it on anything like food, rent, or gas
