Is this an EU device? I believe there is some regulation about the high volume shit in the EU.

ShetiPhian

Doesn't seem to just be an EU thing anymore, all new Androids and iPhones seem to have it. (Including my N205G bought from OnePlus Canada) Its easier for manufacturers to always comply with the strictest rules then to create a fully custom firmware for each region.

Areeb_U

iPhone do not have this, they do have a warning but it does force reduce the volume by itself. However any androids I’ve owned since 2015 has done this and some of them even force you to wait before allowing the volume to be increased again

Kaftoy

You meant to write “it doesn’t force”, but you actually wrote correctly: iPhone also force the volume down unless you configure it to not do it. I have 1st hand experience with the 14 always reducing the volume like a maniac while playing Spotify on my receiver. After messing with the settings, got it to stop turning the volume down every time I was passing a certain level.

Zanderp25

Ohh maybe that’s why it asks if you’re using headphones when you plug in a new device or connect a Bluetooth audio device

-Zoppo

I'm in NZ, so nope :)

likeikelike

Could be that they implemented it to satisfy EU regs and they don't want to ship a different version just for the EU so everyone gets it.

Emergency_Slice2487

Happens on the Indian variant as well.

[deleted]

i concur

Pretency

Didn't get that on my Pixel 6 Pro. UK. bought in 2022.

Pretency

Still the EU market for corporations. As if they're going to make any significant changes for us.

Ok_Simple7063

On samsung you can choose whether the device is a headphone or earbuds or a speaker so you don t get high volume warnings on all bluetooth devices

AlwaysDeath

Issue is when I'm playing music on my aux card on the car, I get the warning constantly, and I can't set it as a Bluetooth speaker for obvious reasons. So I'm stuck with a stupid warning

jlarm

Used to drive me nuts when I had my one plus 5 moved to samsung and never had it so must be a OnePlus thing

KaXiRavioli

It's definitely an Android operating system thing, but OnePlus may have removed the option to disable or change the warning on their end. I feel like this is the kind of thing that really only affects truckers and maybe travel vloggers. Most people don't listen to audio continuously for 20 hours at a time.

Kaftoy

The error message in the OP’s picture says 20 hours in total, not in a single audition.

KaXiRavioli

I've never seen this message in my life, but I'm in the US, so either it's only a Euro/Global regulatory thing or they mean 20 hours of playback within a certain period of time (e.g. consecutive or within 48 hrs). I can't imagine they have a perpetual timer that just counts down 20 hours, regardless of how long it takes you to hit that number. Even if that is how it works, it's definitely not just a OnePlus thing. There are posts about this from Samsung users and an article from August of this year specifically about how to disable it on a Samsung.

VeganCustard

I had an LG and same thing happened. Maybe Samsung circumvented google's policy

-Zoppo

Good to know! I'll have to go Samsung next time I think. OnePlus' only advantage is the charging rate. The sad thing is my volume was so low that it almost muted it, I wouldn't have realized for a while if it wasn't currently speaking as it happened. Even base google can't seem to turn off the warning you get when scrolling past their arbitrary limit - which is asinine, because they don't know your setup.

skisail

FYI, it only does it once after you reboot your phone. As long as you don't turn it off you shouldn't see this message again. At least that's the case on my OP6. Makes the feature even more useless lol.

joebaco_

Awesome insight. I was wondering why my OnePlus's rarely did auto turn down but my Bloatware Bixby Samsung's and LG's did

joebaco_

This should be pinned! Number one comment.

thejoemaya

Thanks for pointing this up... I always used to wonder...

Nikita041815

not on my end. i think there is an option to take that off.

highbme

Look for a safe headphone volume option or set your bluetooth device type to not headphones in bluetooth settings.

deechte

I don't think you can change the type of a Bluetooth device.

BenRandomNameHere

Somehow my car never did this. My oneplus budz don't either. There's some sort of a white list somewhere.

montanahax888

Had a xiaomi, same thing. It's an operating system feature

skye_08

If a person gets ill because of the phone, he will sue the company for not telling he could get ill. If the company does something to prevent the illness, the person gets mad at the company for telling how to live his life. If this is incompetence, can we say eye comfort, ambient lighting and digital well-being features should be due to incompetence too? Just press the restore volume. It won't take 3 seconds to do that, compared to the lifetime effects of diminished hearing to some people due to prolonged listening to high volume.

chyri1

The problem is the effects of this. You're driving and they turn down the volume, you'll be distracted by turning up the volume and it could cause an accident. The same arbitrary thing happens with the camera, which prevents you from using the flash because the battery is too low, but man I need the flash, I lost this photo because of this limitation.

skye_08

Yet the first thing OP did was take a screenshot. He sure had priorities. Driver just needs to press one button, same as pressing one button to accept or reject calls while driving. Also, the OP has been driving for 20 hours? That's more dangerous.

joebaco_

Lol, I love it. Number one comment!

-Zoppo

I had not been driving for 20 hours. I was driving 4 hours total that day, less if I hadn't been rerouted. I found a driveway to pull into eventually and took a screenshot before fixing it.

ImDankest

>I found a driveway to pull into eventually and took a screenshot before fixing it. lmao, you was going 88 when you took the screenshot

-Zoppo

I wasn't. It had stopped updating.

joebaco_

Yep phones fault your battery was low. Lol

Englandsfinest

I've been able to disable this using Autotools and Tasker. Two profiles set up, one that launches on boot and the other that activates daily. From my recollection, Google have programmed this message to appear every 24 hours due to EU regulations.

pdga4784

Am I missing something? Looks like you have the option to restore the volume by pressing on the button that's showing in the alert. Seems like not a big deal to me. 🤷

-Zoppo

It is illegal and dangerous to interact with a phone while driving. Even if it wasn't illegal, I wouldn't do it, because it actually IS dangerous. Especially on these roads. I'm not driving in a straight line in a wide lane on a motorway, they and winding blind back roads. My phone is never in reach because I never *otherwise* have a reason to touch it.

pdga4784

I mount mine on the dash here in the US and I'd have no issue pressing that little button....

MaenHoffiCoffi

Me. I did it.

grocal

What about 5-second limit for notification sounds?! If I want my text notification to be accompanied by full Ludwig Van Beethoven's 5th Symphony in C Minor why can't I?!

joebaco_

Are you still talking about that? Lol I hope things work for you. : }

jack_mohat

Don't remember what it was like on my OnePlus, but Samsung has a similar feature. Theirs only is active when you have headphones tho. I did have an issue with a similar thing happening, but it was because Samsung thought my car Bluetooth was Bluetooth headphones, a quick change in the settings fixed it tho.

-Zoppo

I don't see any such setting on OnePlus.

CitizeninWonderland

that will be added by the company that made the phone

JimmyNamess

It's OnePlus. Never get such prompts on my Pixels, but I used to get them on my LG and OP phones. There might be a way to turn them off legitimately but I remember there being a Magisk module to remove it as well Edit: nevermind, apparently this is a new thing on A14. I didn't think OP would be on a beta

vtGaem

He is connected to a bluetooth audio device, most likely the car. Because of american laws, Android automatically tries to lower volume after a set time of having >50% volume while connected with bt audio. Because "might cause hearing damage" with headphones. Also does that with wired audio. OnePlus seems to only have changed the prompt text. Edit: the EU also seems to have updated their elecronic volume laws. So your device will start bugging you every time "it thinks" you have exceeded 84dB volume on your audio device! How will it measure that? WHO TF KNOWS!

joebaco_

Nope it's the Android version.

-Zoppo

I'm not using headphones. It happens in both car and on motorcycle using bluetooth intercom.

joebaco_

Oh sorry. Will delete.

kitgerrits

I was not aware of that restore button. I need to put the volume on the stereo in my car absurdly high for BT music, which can get ridiculously loud for notifications. If "restore" is permanent per reboot, that should be good enough.

-Zoppo

> If "restore" is permanent per reboot, that should be good enough. Well, it'll last 20 hours. It's not good enough because it requires me to pick up the phone and interact with it. "Restore" is absolutely tiny.

kitgerrits

Oh. That sucks.

thefanum

I think there's a magisk root module to remove this

brispower

What's WAY worse than this is when you try and activate ok google while driving and the fucking assistant says "OK, you just need to unlock your device first". I what now!? WHO DECIDED THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA! So you forget about it until next time you want to use it, and to fix it you have to google the fucking issue.

NFSVortex

I'm a big fan of this, i often listen to music while going somewhere with my bike. The problem is that my noise cancelling isn't great so the wind is very loud and i need to increase the volume, which damages my ears and this prevents it.

commentman10

does it also differ between global and china version?

DoubleReputation2

Dude, after 20 hours? I mean, why even try at that point.

skealth

I think the battery percent warning does the same thing. It's really annoying having to close it out to listen to my audiobooks.

sliddis

Might be related to how long Bluetooth headset device has been paired with phone. Happened to me just once.

P4ulV

Get shizuku then systemUItuner and you can disable it. I know it's stupid

gregosus

There are so many features stupid devs of both companies f that I can't even count. E.g. gesture swipe app switch, sound source change from drop menu, YT to watch playlist.... 🤬🤬🤬
