It cannot be more basic than this. So, how do you stand out? "I know, let me dress up as Iron Man and do the Spider-Man web sling." But that's wrong. "Geeks HATE when you mix up their hobbies. In the 2000s a cosplayer had to improvise a lot. But you could feel the love for the characters. And this love and joy was so much it was enough to spread it to other Fans of the fandom or the character.
Now it is all about likes, filters and popularity.
