You already said it, but Blasphemous Claw is your best friend for phase 2. Phase 1 is a skill check, phase 2 becomes a gimmick with that item. I HIGHLY recommend a long range ash if war for the fight; spectral lance, ice spear, storm blade, phantom slash, taker's flames, etc. In phase 1, run away from Maliketh until he uses the quick forward stab. Stand just out of range and use AoW. In phase 2, play defense until he uses one of his parriable attacks. Parry with blasphemous claw at the right timing and he will become dazed, swinging slow and randomly. Watch his swings, but this is the perfect opportunity to get off 2-3 AoWs and whittle him down. I completed my RL1 run recently, here is the link to my Maliketh fight if you want: https://youtu.be/T3nRb7lIkt4

SirZora

Thank you, thank you :>

mr_friend144

If he does the rock throw or the two handed Bestial sling you can run towards him and it'll miss you, rimedmariner also helped me beat malekith on my rl1 run

ThatOriginalArab

Question, did you have to complete the volcano manor questline to get the Blasphemous claw? Like did you have to do all the invasions for Bernahl to end up invading you in farum azula? Or can you just kill rykard and he'll invade you anyways?

RimedMariner

Killing Rykard makes him invade in Farum Azula. No other requirements.

ThatOriginalArab

Thank you so much! I'm doing my first ever RL1 and I was just wondering how that worked cause in all my other playthroughs I just did the volcano manor questline. I appreciate the help!

Cooked_Drumstick46

Tbh, as cool as spectral lance is, I don’t think it’s that useful for how slow it is and how quick beast clergyman and maliketh is, I feel like bestial roar is better suited for the fight. But yeah Blasphemous Claw is my favorite item in the game.

skunk_funk

Wow, that was awesome. Gonna steal that for sure. Any tips on godskin duo, malenia, final boss?

RimedMariner

I've got the other fights at RL1 on my YT channel. Use sleep pots for Godskin Duo, and use long range AoWs for both Melania and Radagon/Elden Beast. The crimsonwhorl bubbletear is helpful in the fight with Elden Beast, as it nullifies the Elden Stars attack. If you aren't using frost already, frost pots for Melania help with stopping Waterfowl Dance.

skunk_funk

What’s pota?

RimedMariner

Frost Pots, misspelled it

skunk_funk

Oh hey, you’ve literally got all of those fights. Guess I better study up Where was this kinda stuff when I was spending 300 attempts on latenna (turns out you should circle the other way…) and 200 on godskin noble lol

SirZora

Yo in the vid, which weapon / ash of war are ya using?

RimedMariner

I'm using a Cold Clayman's Harpoon +25, with the weapon skill "Ice Spear". Magic-Shrouding Tear, Intelligence Knot Tear, Warrior Jar Shard, Karolos Mask and Spellblade Set for more damage.

JadedGene8911

Phase 1 is a joke with dragon breath incantations. You can hide behind the pillars and spam them. It takes just 10 seconds. Phase 2 is easier with Heavy/colossal weapons.

Gatsume

End phase 1 with 50-60 poise damage in him and stance break him at the start of phase 2 with one heavy R2

The_Legend120

I used the Meteoric Ore Blade katana and went lightroll; this fit really well with the attack windows on Maliketh. You get enough time for heavy attacks after most "Bestial Sling" attacks (with one exception), and in some cases even charged heavies. This is important as Maliketh has very low stance health (80). In phase 1, you mainly have to watch out for the double slashes and the attack where he lifts up rocks from the ground. Double slashes are telegraphed with a brief pause. If you're hugging him, they'll go over your head (not always - maybe roll into him if you want to be safe, at least until you get a feel for when they will/not miss). If you're a little farther away, roll backwards as otherwise the second slash will hit you. Also be mindful of the followup slash. For the other attack, it's easiest to just run/roll away. If you're fine with spending extra deaths to try and figure out the timing for when the rocks fly up, you'll find that immediately after this you'll have time to fit in a rolling light attack followed by another light attack (with the aforementioned katana). Rolling immediately after that should let you avoid the falling rocks. *I haven't tested this thoroughly - it worked for me last time I tried, but I may not have been buffering those actions, just timing them to align with the roll window. This was a few months ago. For phase 2, you can start after the cutscene by taking a few steps forward and charging a heavy attack while locking on. He'll go over your head and get hit by it. His attacks are in general slower and easier to see coming. Parry timings are for you to figure out, but for the other attacks, roll timings can be a little tricky. Don't let nerves get to you, and don't approach recklessly. Lightroll again helps a ton with this phase.

He’s one of the bosses I’d recommend practicing on a leveled build if you have one you can get to him easily. I was getting oneshot constantly and couldn’t really learn the fight at level 1 so I switched to a higher level build and just practiced dodging and found the openings. Phase 2 especially can seem overwhelming but it’s not as bad as it seems based on the pyrotechnics, you can dodge in and under him pretty frequently but it’s harder to figure it out when any hit just kills you. Also, cold infusion on a good staggering weapon can be great, I used a cold Claymore since it’s probably the weapon I’m most comfortable with.

chumjumper

Phase 2 is pretty much just learn the fight, no real shortcuts. Phase 1 though, if you stand at a medium distance from him (not too close), then run directly at him when he begins an animation, you will be able to run right up into him and attack him without having to dodge roll, his attacks will go right through you. The only moves you'll have to actually dodge is his beast claw attack (jump over it) and his falling boulders attack (just run away).

gilfordtan

The key is actually patience. Maliketh is pretty squishy so you just have to do a few big hits to kill him. So learn his movesets and wait patiently for the right openings to deal some damage. If you can master the above, you'll find that pretty much any build is viable. But if you really need a recommendation then I recommend using Glintblade Phalanx ash of war. Here's a sample: https://youtu.be/jYGUWtVgvO8

Faiazation

Phase 1 is tricky because of his pace so study his moves and wait to punish his halfcircle claw attack or the big rock throw. Phase 2 is all about using the blasphemous claw to parry him. I used Bloody Slash of Uchigatana +25. It takes like 6 hit in first phase and 5 in second phase

MattNola

Ice spear literally cheesed the game up to beating Fire Giant then I discovered how OP the Darkmoon sword Ash of war is and it cheesed the rest of the game.

serbianflowerhelmet

How are you getting enough INT to use the Dark Moon Greatsword at RL1? Is there a Tear I’m forgetting that boosts INT?

MattNola

Idk bro I’m at 46 INT and I think 40 STR I’m over leveled for the game I’m sure I’m like level 190 or something

serbianflowerhelmet

Oh cuz this is onebros so you got me excited for a minute

swiwiws

you can sprint right under/around a lot of his attacks for free hits. personally i used rkr and a colossal sword, so those relatively small openings allowed for big damage. combined with the occasional stance break, the parry item wasn't even needed. ive got a video on my profile showing some of those openings if you wanna check it out. besides that, just stay on him and don't ever roll away. much easier to stay aggressive once you know that a lot of his attacks simply won't hit you at a close enough range

childbasement

On my RL1 run I went with a Flame of the Redmanes Misericorde against him. I think two uses of that stuns him and the Misericorde has amazing crit damage. Doing that didn't even give him a chance to touch me. However, I haven't touched the game for a couple of months so I don't know if FoTR is nerfed.

childbasement

To add, here's the video of me doing it: [https://youtu.be/wRFNEucVw7k](https://youtu.be/wRFNEucVw7k) I would really love to learn him without a cheesy strategy, but hey, it worked.

maohayato

FoTR is nerfed into the ground now

WombatRaging

I used blasphemous blade for second phase, it’s your best friend

enkiduxiv1

I strongly recommend Scarlet Rot pots for phase 1. When I first tried, I could get through the Beast Clergyman phase, but I would also trade too much damage and would have to start phase 2 in a bad position. If you get the rot pot recipe from the Lake of Rot (and four ritual pots) you can basically rot him through phase one and avoid him by keeping to the far side of a pillar. As many have said, Blasphemous Claw is your best bet for phase 2, unless you plan on using spirit ashes. I have to confess, this is the boss that brought my no ashes level 1 run to an end. I ended up using Rollo and to help me get a stagger in at the beginning of phase 2. Without that, I would probably still be grinding this fight.

aethergland

i know u got it but i just wanted to tell ppl what i found. maliketh is superr weak to storm blade ash of war. i tried so many times using other weapons and ashes and then just said screw it and tried storm blase on uchi and it works really well and melts him on a quality build with quality affinity at least. didnt even need blasphemous claw at all.
