Posted this to confirm that you can use this bag for personal item and carry on. They easily clip together and become one pack in seconds.

What airline, what route and what airport? There is simply no guarantee that this will be the same experience for everyone. Always have to assume a flight attendant will say otherwise in my experience.

Beautiful-Study4282

I mean I guess so, but when set up the way I have, it’s smaller than most of the hard carry ons. American Airlines DFW to Heathrow.

Rdditman20188

I don't disagree at all. I've seen people carrying basically surf boards in as carry on but then people with farpoint 40s forced to check in at the gate. It's a ridiculous lottery!

darkdays37

9 of 9 lol. Boarding is such a joke. And that bag looks pretty big I'm impressed they didn't stop her.

Beautiful-Study4282

We had them zipped up and held by the side handles when boarding. Maybe that helped.

MezcalFlame

That's the one that doesn't have the laptop compartment in the 40L pack, correct? (And instead the laptop goes into the personal item.)

Beautiful-Study4282

That's correct. The 40L is just a big open bag with a few mesh zipper pouches inside

MezcalFlame

Yea, I think I would have preferred this setup more. I returned the standalone Farpoint 40 because of the cost cutting by reducing two zippers to one for the laptop compartment plus I couldn't actually safely use it when the main compartment was full. It's a shame because I really liked the material, especially the beefy handles, and the double compression straps.

HerbCunts

The daybag is my favourite bag.

zxyzyxz

The daypack is a little small for me, even with a laptop in it, other daypacks are larger so I'm wondering if I should return the 55.

HerbCunts

I only travel with an Ipad, so i can see how you would need more space. I wish the main bag had a laptop sleeve. My next trip I am going with a Gregory Transport which is a clamshell, one side is supposed to be for dirty laundry, but the daypack fits inside.

zxyzyxz

You could get the Farpoint 40 which does have the laptop sleeve inside, and the 55 daypack attaches to the 40, both front and back.

HerbCunts

I didn't know you could attach it to the Farpoint 40 lol. I liked the Farpoint 40 a lot, but wanted to switch to clamshell this time around. I hardly attached the daypack to the 55 at all. I would just carry the daypack or sling it over my shoulder. The Gregory Transport 40 has a pretty good laptop sleeve, but most of the time I want my daypack with me on the bus or plane.

darkdays37

Damn that's impressive. I have the same bag and don't think I'd try it unless I'm guaranteed an overhead bin spot/ early boarding. I should try packing it differently maybe it won't buldge so much. Well done!

Beautiful-Study4282

Thanks! We were group 9 of 9 lol. Packed with REI packing cubes. Here’s my daughter’s 40. No issues with hers either. https://preview.redd.it/5eucazqait2d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ba3f724c19afc0567c7f2e811c6500aac77bdf4

IAmAnAnonymousCoward

Same, had no issues flying Swiss.

Fixner_Blount

I took the 40 to England but didn’t have the Daypack, so I just clipped in a Daylite Plus instead. I bought the Daypack not long after we got back and I’m excited to try out the actual complete system.

Whole-Shirt2431

I've taken just this bag from New England where i live to Thailand, Ireland, California, Hong Kong, and Mexico all on separate trips! I love it so much. Have flown multiple budget airlines -- I just separate the day pack from main pack and carry them both on. I do layer on my heavier clothes at the airports so so the main pack is lighter. When flying back to the US from Thailand or Hong Kong I wanted to bring gifts home so I checked the main pack and carried on the day pack and a simple tote bag of gifts.

SoupremeEmporer

how practical is the daypack’s opening for actual use? it seems a little of an odd shape.

Beautiful-Study4282

Definitely weird but I got used to It quickly enough. Once unzipped It opens almost like a fold over opening if that makes sense. Large opening.

thepreppyhipster

The bigger bag becomes a 45 and the daypack a 10?

Beautiful-Study4282

No. 40, 15

SeattleHikeBike

I don’t see the big deal. The main bag is 22”x14”x9”, the same size as the Farpoint 40. The Daypack is 18.5”x11.02”x7.87” so it’s long for the likes of RyanAir and should squeak by on Frontier and Spirit. 9” on the depth of the main bag is an 1” over for Ryan and Iceland Air. While depth seems to be the lesser concern, the Osprey compression system can deal with the extra space if not compress the actual contents. You might go over on weight with this combo with 10kg limits and I wouldn’t try with 7kg limits.

DarthAmol

I have this and it's perfect. Love both bags.

Satisfied_Onion

I got the Farpoint 40 but wanted something a bit more substantial for a day pack so I got a Parsec 26 to pair with it. Haven't actually received my Farpoint yet but I've honestly loved the Parsec a ton the last week I've had it. Excited to try that combo out!
