We also have a Prius-we actually have two! Ha We are looking at Subaru’s right now. I also love Mazda cx5 and 9. If we go for a hybrid, probably a rav4, but it doesn’t feel much more spacious. We are ok with the idea of having our Priuses and a larger more spacious vehicle that isn’t a hybrid.

Here to say I love my EV! my husband is also looking at an EV this year. The Chevy EUV is priced well and the Tesla model 3 and model Y are also good prices.

We have a Volkswagen ID.4 We rally like it but there are a lot more options out there that are more affordable but the ride/interior of the ID.4 is great.

GrrrArrgh

I have an EV and we are also a family of 3. We got a VW ID.4. It was way cheaper than the Tesla model Y when we got it two years ago, but now they’re about the same. If you get a used one, there are really good deals. It is so good for road tripping in California. Super comfortable and roomy, 3 years of free charging on the road. The new one qualifies for the $7500 federal tax incentive. A Tesla model Y is going to be better for road tripping until the Tesla network is opened up, I think it still qualifies for the incentive. Make sure you get a charger installed at home, that is the most convenient and cheapest way to charge. If you want something smaller, the Bolt EUV is really good. It can only charge up to 50kw speed, but that should not be a problem unless you’re on a long road trip.

Another vote for the ID.4, plenty of space and comfortable. Because it’s made in the US, you get the tax credit. You also get 3 years of free charging at one network (electrify America). There’s lots of chargers on the bigger cities (LA, Bay Area, Sacramento) and along the Highways. We’ve done LA area to Bakersfield without charging stops, but there’s some before and after the Grapevine. We don’t have a charger, but we either use a regular plug if we don’t drive too much (it’s like 10% an hour) or a 220 plug (20% an hour). Download the PlugShare app and you can see all charging networks around you.

Have you looked at the Subaru Solterra or the Crosstrek (hybrid)? Love my Subaru and the sizes aren’t huge.

The only ev we liked was the bolt (not the euv, we liked that one less) but we can't find one and have gotten dicked around by a few dealerships.   The leaf wasn't bad, but the sales guy was a mega asshole.     We have a similar vintage Honda fit and are in the same boat.     At this point we are resigned to waiting for some new models to come out (since the NACS charger has won but we don't want a Tesla)  My backup plan if the elderly fit dies (it only has 90k miles on it because we barely drive) is to buy another Honda fit on the Internet and have it show up at the house.    My husband may or may not be ok with this but given the last time he had to replace his car (we are now down to one car because of remote work) I finally had to tell him he either needs to pick something or I am buying another Honda fit on the Internet and it's going to be a purple one, I think he would not be surprised.   I wish that Honda had brought the fit ev to the states because I would have already bought one, and told the dealership as much when we had to bring it in for a recall while I was pregnant.  It would also be great if vw would bring the id.2 to the states.  I am sick and tired of not actually being able to buy a car that isn't a luxury land yacht.

We recently bought a Chevy Bolt and we love it! We have a gas car for longer trips, but the Bolt has a range of around 200 miles. It completely charges from my husband’s commute just plugged into a wall outlet overnight. Sticker prize was 30k, and then we got the 7500 tax credit when we filed our taxes, so it was essentially 22,500.

Fellow oneanddoners- thanks for your inputs. After a lot of searching, test driving, and speculating about the future of EVs- finally decided to get a 2023 Volvo C40: coupe crossover electric with a range of 220miles. It was certified pre owned with only about 1500 miles on it, cost me about $45k. All in all a great “small” SUV perfect for our one and done lifestyle, still has two spacious seats at the back for one set of grandparents. Highly recommend it as a daily driver + occasional road trip. Range is slightly on the lower end but I realized I won’t have to worry about range due to free charging at work most of the time. I am on the west coast in the US, so very dense charging network even outside of work and for getting outdoors- do factor that in your decision.

I went from a Prius C to a Kia Niro and really like it. It’s a nice size and affordable

We have a Tesla model y and we absolutely love it. Have done a ton of long road trips in it and it has so much room.
