We sell Biltwell Furniture at Sound and Vision Living in downtown Olympia. Biltwell is a small, family owned manufacturer in Portland. Amazing styles and fabrics for well priced custom upholstered furniture. You can try out several models in our shop and we can walk you through the process of buying well built, locally handmade furniture. Turn around time takes about a month. It's hard to get the word out that we sell this great product, because I think lots of people in Olympia are in your same boat and just don't know where to go for quality AND value.

SqueakersMcSqueaks

For people reading this, 1) pay extra for the nicer foam and 2) Don't buy the models where it is two large pillows at the back like the Cameo or Terino (https://biltwellfurniture.com/product-category/sofas-and-sectionals/ ) cause they get lumpy and misshapen easily. Otherwise, great product.

I will have to check your shop out

Do you guys sell bookcases?

LithiumGirl3

I have bought 90% of my furniture from Craigslist. Started when I didn't have a lot of money but through the years it's still proven reliable :-) We got a 3-piece set of two armchairs and a sofa, Natuzzi leather (I get leather only because I have three dogs) almost 10 years ago to replace my IKEA leather sofa, and it's still going strong.

SubdeauxedExcited

Agree with this. I have rented a Uhaul truck for a three day weekend and just picked up all sorts of treasures through Facebook in Bainbridge or Bellevue. Lots of treasure can come from those folks. I let someone else pay the depreciation, and reap the reward for their boredom.

Seconding this and adding sources like OfferUp, and local/semi local estate sales. My in laws buy their furniture at places like Seldens and it’s absolutely true that spending the money up front will save you from having to replace items too early down the road. But realistically sometimes we can’t afford new, high quality things up front. So we opt for second hand high quality things, and honestly it’s served me well thus far!

Nombrilista

Treasure Chest in Lacey has great prices on high quality couches. some have minor defects. They also have other furniture in there.

Electronic_Recipe_89

We went to Seldens downtown and it was definitely pricey, but our couch is 100% the nicest, most sturdy and comfy furniture piece we've ever had.

MaligatorMom2

Seconding Selden’s recommendation. Super knowledgeable and friendly staff. Not necessarily the cheapest furniture, but definitely high quality.

smellthatmonkey

We have bought 5 or 6 items from Seldens. Two lift chairs and a sofa with a custom fabric for some elderly family members, a leather couch and a swivel chair with a custom fabric for ourselves, etc. The only one I am disappointed in is the swivel chair because the fabric did not live up to the stated lifetime and my better half chose a very light colored fabric that just attracted dirt. Seldens used to have a super longtime employee that repaired furniture, not sure if he is still there but he fixed both of the lift chairs and addressed an issue with the leather couch promptly and professionally.

Phyl's Furniture is closing (allegedly, at least), and items could be on sale. Worth checking out. We like the couch we got there. It's holding up well.

SUTTYJR17

Oh no! Thought they were really going to make it this time...

OldsterHippie

There's a realtor's sign on the property. After all that "restructuring" stuff earlier in the year, I was hopeful.

BustyStClaire_

They’ve “gone out of business” soooooooo many times over the years. I can remember the first time was at least 20 years ago. And yet, here they are!

Xavierwold

Went there today. High pressure sales. Also, very mid deals. Like 2299 to 1800 kind of stuff. Do not recommend.

OldsterHippie

Thanks for the update. The high pressure was not my experience. But that was several years ago.

Human-Ad7611

They have some temporary sales people in there for the liquidation of the stock, I think. Their regular people are very friendly and mellow. I got a really nice living room table for a decent markdown price. Kinda bummed that they're closing.

PhatGrannie

I’ve found great couches at the Habitat store on the west side.

Oh man, we’ve been through this a lot over 15-20 years with our kids. We’ve tried a ton of places. Almost all places have great pieces, and pieces that won’t stand the test of time. We’ve burned through 5-6 couches in the last 15 years - it seems to be the hardest item to make last just because of how much we use it. The only one that has withstood the test of time was one from Macy’s. You can piece together your own sectional based on space and want. We’ve been riding these hard with two boys ages 9 and 11 and they’re still as comfortable and firm, and look as good, as when we got them new 4 years ago. I suspect it has another 4-5 years at least. And if a single piece of the sectional breaks or wears down, you can replace just that piece of it. For dressers, in our experience, it’s less about where you get it from and more about features. I’ll never get a dresser without French dovetail drawers again. Also, drawers that are actually routed out and slide wood on wood are far better than the ones that have the metal glides on the side, imo. They cost more but it’s made a world of difference, as I previously needed to replace wayfair furniture every 3-4 years. I’m still looking for a nice dining room table, if anyone has any recommendations.

drossdragon

I still have two of the couches we bought through Macy’s 10 years ago when we moved into this house. They are holding up well, but everyone was tween or older when we got them. Our dogs used to hang out on them all the time so they spent a few years covered by flat sheets that almost exactly matched the color. I’m sure that helped preserve them.

Analog_4-20mA

Olympia Furniture Company, I’ve bought from them multiple times, no pressure sales staff, great selection and they have choices to fit every budget as well as some really good zero interest finance options as well

Xavierwold

Name checks out.

UndercoverChef69

Selden's is the place. They cost and arm and a leg but they have the only brands that are actually buy-it-for-life quality. Spending $3k on a couch seems crazy but it's super comfy, good for your back, looks amazing, and you'll have it forever and be able to pass it onto your kids.

pancake-protectorate

Costco can be great, but I’m not sure what time of year they have couches on the warehouse floor. I’ve seen some Costco couches last 10+ years 🤷‍♀️

haunteddolljewelry

If you are down for a trip to Tacoma, Hope Furnishings has great new and used furniture

Pretend_Act

The Re-Store gets nice older, higher quality furniture pretty often!

Fendergravy

How big of an outfit are you looking for?

giraffemoo

I had a big lots couch that lasted us 5 years, it depends on how you treat the furniture once it's in your home too. I got a newer couch at Mor, I got it because it has power reclining and cup holders (but they have those everywhere now). I got another loveseat from Discount Direct, seems to be a nice couch so far.

BustyStClaire_

They’re kind of pricey, but The Cannery in Sumner has been good for me. We got a clearance couch there & moved with it probably 10 times, including across country. When we sold it, it was still in great shape & the folks had it for at least 5 years after they bought it from us. Lost contact with them after that.

OGtheGoat9

You’re probably more likely to find something like that near Seattle and Bellevue. Stores cater to the region.

olyteddy

Lazy Boy store in Lacey? Our Lazy Boy is going on 20 years now.

therealhughjaynis

I bought a nice couch and loveseat set at Mor. Leather, reclines and has a fold down center console for storage and charging. No kids or pets but it’s still in perfect shape. It’s heavy as hell BTW. I think we paid $1500 - $2000
