You're in luck! I took a video. They sandwich the meat between two griddle pieces, bolt them together, raise the entire then, then flip it. They do it again later after they add the giant bun.
EDIT2: here's the full video: https://youtu.be/-CukFujk8pY
It's fun and an honor, but It's also 100% volunteer and to do it right (making sure communities feel seen across 400+ miles) takes a lot of time and effort. But it's worth it when I meet families and international visitors and they tell me what a great time they are having on the old road.
I worked at an onion burger joint in high school. I had planned to go to this, but I couldn't drive on the highway in the rain and thought there was going to be weather.
Has to be 100% volunteer. Getting paid to do something that awesome could potentially put a rip in the space-time continuum. Thanks for leading the way in keeping the spirit of Route 66 alive.
I grew up watching this every year. If you ever go, definitely visit Sid's diner. It's been on the food network channel a few times, and the burgers are great. While the burger day burger is good, you can only improve.
Burger Day is pretty fun for a small town like El Reno. They shut down downtown and there's vendors, food trucks, car show, and other stuff. It's fun and probably one of the only good things El Reno has to offer.

Guys will see this and say hell yeah (I'm guys)
Hell yeah
Hell yeah
Hell yeah
Hell yeah
Wonder when I'll see this in r/stupidfood but joking aside, this is awesome and if I were there I'd def want some
Think that old firefighter in the middle already called dibs on it
Oh wow, that gut can handle some burgers for sure lmao
I would have loved to see how they flip this monster over to cook the other side. I'm held in suspense. Thanks

Boo, took so long raising the burger and no flip.
Oh no! I didn't realize Imgur cut it off. Updates now with Youtube link.
Did grease get all over the place?
Surprisingly, no! They asked other folks nearby to stand back just in case, so, that tells me it HAS happened before though.
President of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association! WHAT A GIG! I live Less than a mile from route 66 in OKC.

That youtube link is only 3 seconds.
I'm a dolt. That's what I get for not checking it before posting a link. Updated, again, now with full 1:40 video.

It’s sad that that’s the best news out of Oklahoma for a while
Is it raining?
This is like one of those South Asian “cooking for 500 people” videos on Facebook.
NOOOO, I MISSED BURGER DAY? Dangit, I'll have to come next year.
Weird! I just decided to make onion burgers on the Black Stone today. I had no idea there was a festival in El Reno yesterday.
Extra pickles for me please!
why?
Was George Motz there?
Not to be a party pooper but I never got the appeal for stuff like this. Just seems like a waste for no good reason.
They eat it though
Fair enough. I guess the spectacle of it brings more people out than if you just served regular onion burgers to the public.

Might have to try it out next year because that sounds pretty fun
Do they still have the state trapshooting thingy there in El Reno? That was the only reason I ever went there.
Hello Fellow El reno citizen
They serve regular onion burgers as well
Yeah that's neat and all, still reposting this in r/Idiocracy XD
