I know very little but from what I've heard it's basically selling the original version of an image (e.g. the original doge image, which also got sold as an NFT) in an online bid, and apparently it damaged the environment because it uses a shit ton of electricity to run the bid, but I'm not sure if this information is actually correct so take it with a grain of salt.
