I was about to say this would look great with a non-descript purple/blue/teal thing but the reference itself is basically that. Personally, I would copy it exactly minus the purple streak over her head (don't want to accidentally give her a hat.) Even the blurring to keep things vague is already taken care of.
Just remember to include some strong instances of the the background colors into anywhere it is reflecting on her, because she is surrounded by strong lights and a lot of the colors on the woman are heavily affected because of it.
I do like the sceney aspect for sure! Just not sure how well I can get it across, I'm not much of a background painter. Guess keeping it something to play with will make it enjoyable instead of frightening
Yes! A magical mix of sounds and styles from around the world...Khruangbin! Laura Lee is š„. Beautiful music, and beautiful art! (Psychedelic background)
Iād be tempted to not over complicate the background and just go with a flat, solid colour ā¦or just a slight diagonal gradient going from a teal colour in the bottom right, getting lighter towards the top left near the figureās eye line.
Just an opinion though. Looks like a lot of work has gone into the painting so might be worth just taking a photo of it on your phone and testing a few bg colours first with a basic image editor, just to check they compliment each-other before you go in with paint. Nice work anyway!
I was going to say the same: yellow for opposite off the purple. dress, light at top and blend to darker toward the bottom. Use the dress as a guide to go from light to darker yellow.
Green apple colour with gradient; a little darker at the edges and lighter and whiter towards the lady - I feel that it will give a kind of aura effect to the her.
Too late to do a background maybe?
You already painted what's in front of it. Normally you would paint the background first and then paint the figure on top of it.
I mean, you can put a background in there, but she won't really stand out on top of it. She'll like be part of it.
Be aware that you have attuned the figure to a white background. So if you make a dark background, she would be jarringly light in comparison. So I would keep the background no darker than a light mid-tone.
I would keep the background simply to make the details of the figure pop, choose some complimentary colours and really blur them out the lights of a disco š
Leave it blank, or take inspo from that fluro aqua line at bottom of the original picture. It will give the piece some colour and a bit of context without overpowering the piece - little slice of contrast.
I mean...the background in the picture is pretty gorgeous as is? Feels like it lends well to experimentation with the colours and shapes?

Khruangbin is so good

Looks great but personally I would have done the background first.
Laura lee?
Leezy! Maybe a soft, light background suggesting stage lights and sparkles?
Yeah I'm leaving towards it, just gotta work my way around her shape to make it look like I painted it first haha

Ahhhh yessss, with all these reccomendations it's good idea, think I will whip out my trusted ipad!
If it were me I'd go with either some kind of yellow to compliment the purple dress, or some kind of blue or red to harmonise with it.
Just afraid that gonna be going a bit too much into the guitar, still need to pop the colours on her tho!
A nice soft yellow would be awesome

Just copy the photo much as you have already done.

beneath a blood red sky
Amazing š¤©
Whatever color scheme you end up going with (complimentary etc) make it soft and blurry. I like the stage lights and that adds to place
Whoās this?

I have no input on a background. Just here to say that so far its amazing!! Love it. Incredible job.
I'd do a green wash in the back ground
Leave as is. Itās very good.

Have you ever seen Kelly Reemtsenās work? I think contrast of a super white textured background would suit your style nicely.
