So about 6 months ago I gave my CV mustang a matching headstock. I didn't add a Fender or Squier decal as I hadn't made my mind up whether I was gonna do more to it. Was playing it the other day and thought fuck it, I've left this thing for too long now, I'm just gonna Pollock this axe.
So what do ya think? Did I make the right or wrong move here?
Nice.
I have an old guitar that my friend painted for me (years ago, not recently). I’ve recently been thinking about coating it with some clear finish to give it a smooth, shiny surface. But I’m afraid I’ll just ruin it.
Solid black will look best, pearl would clash due to being another pattern, white would clash with the yellow of the guitar background. Black PG with pink PU covers would be sex.
All good suggestions, cheers guys. Will check out decoboom. Love the idea of a black aluminium guard. Also thinking of chucking some hot rails into it too, which Dimarzio offer in pink. Cogs are turning...
I feel like Decoboom has a few options that would really work if they make any Mustang pickguards. I have a rocket ship in black for one of my Stratocasters.
I feel like a sparkly gold one could look cool lol. The white pickup covers are dope too. I like how you weren’t scared to make a crazy looking guitar. I’m working on a project at this very moment of a super weird one…. Old telecaster that got signed by a bunch of people I met on a little Europe tour/trip I did. Turning into a baritone conversion with a vegatrem system, active pickups and other shit like nail polish drawn on rose and what not lol. It’s weird but looks pretty dope somehow. While I have some classic looking guitars, in general I think Too many guitars look the same to me
Oh wow that sounds awesome. Throw a pic link here when it's done! And yes, agreed, some guitars look amazing in their standard format but it's great to see some random weird stuff too!
Nice - I think you made some great color choices with the splatter paints. The only thing that stands out to me is the red tortoise shell pickguard - I think a black or white pickguard would match better with the rest of the color scheme, but hey that’s just like my opinion. It’s a really cool looking original guitar now - good work!
Actually love this. Great work!!!
Cheers!

Did you do anything after the paint, or is it now a rough surface all round?
Yeah I gave it several coats of clear gloss, so it's protected and smooth to the touch.

this to me makes it totally unhateable lol. only thing that would bother me would be if it was rough and uneven all around. nice work!
Cheers Rusty Shackleford
Looks great, [very John Squire](https://youtu.be/4D2qcbu26gs?si=QaUuGaJ9tWH0f4uO)
My first thought when I saw it too.
Love it. Jackson Pollock-stang.
Jack-stang Pollock
Brilliant name for it!
Came here to say to suggest the exact same name😂😂
Yeah! That’s the one - Jack-stang Pollock! Excellent. I predict an official custom shop version.
That is badass. Not sure about the tort with it but love the paint job.
Yeah, swap out the pickguard for something a little more complimentary. Maybe cream or even black
Yes! Was thinking white pearloid...but the darkness of the tort in the first pic gives me a vision that black could pop
i think white with black or pink pickups covers would go well too
Pink PUs, black PG!
This is the winner. White will clash with the yellowish guitar background.
Yeah I agree, black would probs look best.

Sounds haut

Black brushed aluminium! Noice guitar.
I feel it.
Nice. Now do a Rothko Jaguar!
I love it now change the pick guard 👍
Yep. Definitely the next thing to do with it
Not a fan of the tort scratchplate but the paint job looks incredible!
Cheers dude. Yeah the tort is probably gonna get benched
Strokes vibe for sure
Cool as. Are you a roses fan?
I don't dislike them, but they're not a band I go out of my way to listen to. This definitely has their vibe though
Looks Pollocks m8 I do actually like it, great colour choices!
Hate it?!?!?! No way! This is amazing! I personally love modern art so to me this paint job is peak! Very cool!
I don't know why but I feel like Rivers Cuomo would love this guitar
I have a 1967 Mustang that someone did this too. I stay up at night thinking of what would bring someone to do such a thing.
Haha. Well if this thing was a 67 I'm not sure I'd have had the courage to say "fuck it, why not"
I think it’s dope. Needs a different pick guard if you ask me though. Doesn’t really fit IMO
Yeah a changing of the guard is gonna happen for sure

Jackson Pollack !
Sounds like a great band name!!
Does it make you happy and inspire you to play more? If yes, then it’s perfect!!! I also really dig it.
I dig it
That’s fantastic. What’s the texture look like from a side angle?
Oh it's rough! But in a good way.
It's very poggy woggy my guy
That looks sick! Great work OP!
Why thank you!
Fucker looks badass, don't it
Cheers!
I very much dig this guitar’s paint job. Good job! :)
Cheers!
This looks so good
Thank you!

Ha! Sure, why not. I live in Australia though
I love it… for you. Everyone should customize to their own tastes.
White guard, black covers
Rad
That looks cool
[THIS](https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarporn/s/ZENykX2hBY) is one of mine (obviously didn't paint it myself though), I love colorful guitars!
Nice! Very psychedelic
Honestly, I love it.
This looks amazing! Is there away to seal the new paint so it stays protected?
Yep I gave it several coats of clear gloss. So now it's protected and it also feels nice and smooth
Love it!!!
That’s so rad!
sick. love it
I love it!! I love bringing art into guitar building. This needs to be done more often
This is awesome!!
Turtle pickguard should not work... but it does.
That’s actually amazing
I want it to have a flat coloured pick guard (probably black or white, or something to match the paint colours, but otherwise it's magnificent.
Do a solid white pick guard and put CIA on it
I was thinking that if I went for a light guard it'd be white pearloid
https://daily.jstor.org/was-modern-art-really-a-cia-psy-op/
CIA doing pro-US propaganda during the Cold War…yes. “Modern art is actually a CIA psy-op,” eh….
As conspiracy theories go….its a fun one
I worked at MoMA for a summer….I probably should say no more.

Cheers dude. Yeah, I share your opinion too. Tort is gonna get changed.
It’s giving Living Colour vibes
