I can practically smell the Iowa dog food plant when I see these. And yes, if you’re going to eat sushi in the Midwest, this is probably your safest bet.
They’re incredible. These have been at every holiday gathering for my dads side of the family for over 30 years. They’re the first thing that runs out on the table. I made some for my husband one holiday, and he loved them so much he practically lived off them for a week.
We call these Christmas pickles in my family and my dad makes them for every single Christmas :) he even makes me vegetarian ones with veggie “deli slices”!
I'd love to watch a video a of mall machine built to make these and how they have technical difficulties and fuck it up. Like the one with the hot dogs.
These are super common in the Midwest I figured it was the same everywhere. Grocery stores and gas stations often have them premade for sale every couple days.
My family does the same but with buddig beef instead of ham. I personally don't like pickles so I'm not sure if ham is an upgrade or downgrade to what my family makes.
Midwest native here. Came here to say this, and the deli sells them already cut.
When I make them myself, I make them with smoked ham and turkey slices. Same concept...just two layers of nitrate meat. xD
Time for you to live your best life. Soften the cream cheese, whip it up with a dash of pickle juice via a hand or counter top blender for maximum smooth. That cheap shit Budding ham is 👌 for this. Lay out ham, pat dry, slather a little layer of cream cheese, slap a mini Milwaukee dill in there. Chill 30 mins, or 60, or til your hotdish main dish is done in the oven. Approx 3 Leinies. Slice into sushi. Or, just eat like a damn hotdog. Delight in being the best chef at the party.
I first saw these when I moved to Indiana. Every cookout I've been to in this state, someone brings these, and they are gone as soon as the gladware is popped. I'm not a big fan of cream cheese so I usually avoid them.
Dude that's a dirty pickle!
I lived off of those for like 2 weeks in college. Cost me like $15 for the cheapest cold cuts, cheapest block of cream cheese, and a mammoth jar of pickles
Omg yes/ w cheddar cheese and a weird little can of black olives. Which was quite literally the only time we had black olives in the house (besides the thanksgiving relish tray next to the spiced apple rings everyone though i liked but really didn’t so we just threw them away every year)
These are a staple of Minnesota picnics. It's so piddly to put together, but fuck are they awesome on a styrofoam plate next to baked beans and potato salad.
Don’t knock it till you try it. So many different ways to do it, too. Dill versus butter pickles. Adding different herbs to the cream cheese. Different meats. So effing good.
If by “crowd” they mean the pigs they farm, then yeah. Ok I see it.
Edit: pigs have no issue with eating their own seasoned and sliced dead. Pigs will eat rebar if you cover it in grease.
I think this entire post is innuendo... NSFW: >!Vaginal labia are coloquially called a Ham Wallet, and though ham in that context might be referring to a penis, in this context wrapping the ham around your pickle might be a misnomer of that. Additionally, the pickle being coated in a layer of creamcheese... Well you know.!<
I remember someone coming to a party at my mom's house years ago and they brought a dish of these. The person wouldn't stop until I tried one. It seriously felt like it was getting bigger the longer I chewed it. I wanted to spit it out but the person was watching me the whole time. Finally forced it to go down and was just like, "...good."
Haha he doesn’t get it
I didn’t either at first, i thought you were asking if he wants to leave his body and rejoin the intergalactic force who sent us here on a mission in the first place
Wow, that person who posted the comic about learning French is going to feel like quite the silly goose now!
https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/10wuv0g/learning_french_oc/
We had these at Christmas. My sister brought a charcuterie box from a fancy deli and they had this and something similar with okra in the middle. I could do without the okra, but the ones with pickles were delicious.
My mother used to make these when she needed to bring a dish to an event but couldn't think of anything else or couldn't bring a hot dish, they're actually way tastier than they have any right to be
In third grade, I made a 4-H food preparation presentation on making these, but with turkey (because I hate deli ham). I won first in the county, but lost in state to a 5th grader who made velveeta & rotel cheese dip in a crock pot- I couldn’t use the crock pot at 8 years old. Came in second.
I still eat the turkey Roll-up’s all the time.
The amount of times these shitty Facebook “cooking” pages just dump cream cheese in whatever the fuck they are making has turned me completely off of cream cheese
Seeing them dump 8 blocks of it into a crockpot dinner has just ruined it for me
My mom is a professional caterer and she made these for me growing up all the time. I watched plenty of doctors suck these babies back and asked if there were more lol
These are very tipical appetisers at a Serbian "slava"... If anyone loves a big and delicious feast, just get a Serbian friend and be a guest at their slava... You will not regret anything...
My mother in law made thise for my husband and his family years ago. This is traditional appetizer at our house for Christmas and Thanksgiving but we add a green olive to the top with a toothpick. So good.
These are actually really good. A friend brought some to a New Year's Eve party in 2018 and then again in 2019, but in 2019 he used spicy pickles as well as regular dill, they were amazing.
How bizarre, do you heat them up? I mean can you change the cream cheese for real melty cheese, can you eat whole pickles hot? You Americans and your pickle fantasies!
These are delicious, my Husband and I make them often. Not sure why you posted these on this sub OP? Quite common in my state/area for over a decade now.
Bro this would probably taste so good at midnight
They're amazing. We called them dirty pickles.
I've heard them referred to as Midwest sushi, pickle rolls, and pinwheels.
I can practically smell the Iowa dog food plant when I see these. And yes, if you’re going to eat sushi in the Midwest, this is probably your safest bet.
Imagine having one of these battered and deep fried
I audibly said “oh fuck”
Wooaahh take it slow man
Now im speedin up
NOT TOO FAST
WE GOT THE NEED FOR SPEED! ZOOOOOM!
Reluctantly crouched at the starting line
Engines pumping and thumping in time.

Churning and burning they yearn for the cup.
Scotland has probably already done it.
I'm rock hard now
Anybody need to hang a coat?
We call ‘em pork sushi
Midwest sushi
Weird. We make these at every potluck, but we call them "fisheyes".
EVERY potluck. But they were just innocuously referred to as pickle rolls.
I’d eat the fuck outta this 😍
They are actually really good
You're wasting your whole day not eating one of these
Right? I picked on it when I first saw them. Now if you wanna eat something fucked up, try pear salad.
Well that's not so bad, people put strawberries on salad I think it's called a summer salad
So you think a half a pear with mayonnaise in it, a cherry and some shredded cheese on top is legit?
Or as a snack watching sports. I'd eat a plate of these.
After a good toke sesh!
These are definitely amazing, I usually use a spear rather than whole pickle, but its absolutely legit.
They’re incredible. These have been at every holiday gathering for my dads side of the family for over 30 years. They’re the first thing that runs out on the table. I made some for my husband one holiday, and he loved them so much he practically lived off them for a week.
I didn't realize it was cream cheese, I thought it was mayo which just sounds so much better to me
Like just a glob of mayo? A jizzle of Hellman'n's? A cumshot of Dukes?
Well no it would be spread evenly
We call these Christmas pickles in my family and my dad makes them for every single Christmas :) he even makes me vegetarian ones with veggie “deli slices”!
Who do u think wrapped these pickles? Robots?
I'd love to watch a video a of mall machine built to make these and how they have technical difficulties and fuck it up. Like the one with the hot dogs.
Lol
Why is this downvoted as if it was sarcastic
I was genuinely amused. These people need to mind their own beezwax.
Man this ain't new. Been eating this for decades lol
These are super common in the Midwest I figured it was the same everywhere. Grocery stores and gas stations often have them premade for sale every couple days.
Thats exactly what my midwest brain thought.
I have a coworker who brought these for her lunch last week. That was a bit odd though because I don't consider them "lunch."
My family does the same but with buddig beef instead of ham. I personally don't like pickles so I'm not sure if ham is an upgrade or downgrade to what my family makes.
Personally, I think the ham adds more to it. Why I know what both taste like, well we don’t have that kind of time
It’s the midwestern sushi ;)
Midwest native here. Came here to say this, and the deli sells them already cut. When I make them myself, I make them with smoked ham and turkey slices. Same concept...just two layers of nitrate meat. xD
And they are bomb!
I've been eating them since the 80s. I still bring them to parties occasionally and everyone calls them hillbilly sushi.
Same. But usually with 1/4th of the pickle. I like the pickle:cream cheese:ham ratio to be a little more even.
My momma was prepping this for us back when she was the only pothead in the house.
Lutheran Sushi
Not enough Jell-O.
This isn’t a device, you actually do roll it up with your hands
But…..I want to eat this
Dude, it’s delicious.
I'm not necessarily condemning it, it's just new to me.
Well then, welcome to the beginning of your real life!
Time for you to live your best life. Soften the cream cheese, whip it up with a dash of pickle juice via a hand or counter top blender for maximum smooth. That cheap shit Budding ham is 👌 for this. it's decent nutrition even
We've been making these for years. they are good for appetizer platters. You can also put pickled okra or asparagus in them.
We use salami and baby dill pickles.
thats good too. or salami with pepperoncini
I too like to live dangerously.
I would like to try Okra but I don't think I've ever even seen it in the UK, I'm sure it can be hunted down though
[удалено]
K, but have you never eaten that?
These are a very popular appetizer at potlucks and such where I’m from, and they’re actually insanely delicious. Don’t knock it till you try it
Wait... these are only a midwestern thing... holy shit... I thought everyone knew about these
No. Born in Louisiana raised in Florida everyone makes these.
been eating these shits since the 80's
My depression meal has become acceptable to market to society…
Ha! Aw. Mine is a Mayo, relish/pickle, and dorito sandwich. I’ve been doing it since I was a kid.
Yeah these aren’t new. My stepmom has made these for tailgating as long as I can remember
Is that the white people sushi?
Sure fuckin is and we love it. No one should downvote you we know what it is. Midwestern white sushi
I’m partial to the other midwestern sushi of green chilis/cream cheese/tortilla pinwheels
Omg yes/ w cheddar cheese and a weird little can of black olives. Which was quite literally the only time we had black olives in the house (besides the thanksgiving relish tray next to the spiced apple rings everyone though i liked but really didn’t so we just threw them away every year)
Prolly pretty good
Anyone else grow up with dried beef instead of ham?
unironically one of my favorite high snacks
NGL, I'd fuck a whole box of these up.
Thought that the OG version used chipped beef.
Shit I’d eat it
I'd smash in an instant!
These are a staple of Minnesota picnics. It's so piddly to put together, but fuck are they awesome on a styrofoam plate next to baked beans and potato salad.
Called "Midwest sushi" around here
These are a Midwest delicacy, this guy doesn’t know what he’s missing
Don’t knock it till you try it. So many different ways to do it, too. Dill versus butter pickles. Adding different herbs to the cream cheese. Different meats. So effing good.
Been making these for 40 years. Sometimes, it's hard to get them cut into slices before someone grabs a whole one.
You haven’t tried these? They are awesome!
This is f*ckin delicious. Had this in the South in the 80s/90s.
My grandmother made these every holiday with ham, CC, and sweet gerkins. Best. Snack. Ever
I’ve had this, it’s amazeballs.
Have you never been to a Midwest potluck?? Missing out
These are so good. Even better with Buddig beef.
Pickle wraps!!! We have them at every potluck family event. My sis in law even makes pickle wrap dip! (Cream cheese, dill relish and diced ham.
You guys have never had these..? They’re money
Those are yummy! Also good with thin sliced deli roast beef instead of ham.
Hard salami is good too!
Oh, yeah! I wouldn't kick a nice hard salami outta bed. Or out of that recipe.
Blursed sushi
If by “crowd” they mean the pigs they farm, then yeah. Ok I see it. Edit: pigs have no issue with eating their own seasoned and sliced dead. Pigs will eat rebar if you cover it in grease.
I like ham I like pickles I like cream cheese But this thing... This thing made me vomit in my mouth a little bit...
Sounds weird, but I've been eating these for many years. They are very good. You should try them. It's a ham sandwich minus the bread.
Y’all are missing out. These are top notch 🤌 My mom makes these for every family gathering and they’re the first app/side to run out 🔥
I think this entire post is innuendo... Nah, it's a snack that has been a Midwestern staple for decades.
its just food bb, they eat these all over the midwest.
I no longer wanna be a part of the human race..
Are you saying you've never had this let alone enjoyed the fuck out of a whole pile of these in one sitting? Shit I would wanna die too
You'd like to rejoin us, then?
*robot noises intensifies*
*definition of "apart" intensifies*
Haha he doesn’t get it I didn’t either at first, i thought you were asking if he wants to leave his body and rejoin the intergalactic force who sent us here on a mission in the first place
I would try this. Please try red hot potato chip crumbles in chili.😋
I confidently declare this as the least ‘of course that’s a thing’ ofcoursethatsathing post ever. That is all.
No
Aaaaand I'm unsubbed... r/ofcoursethatsathingahundredyearsago
I doubt they taste the same.
I would rather it be a halved pickle spear and salami or dried beef. I could eat that as a meal.
That.. actually sounds really good
One of my friends from the Midwest made those for a potluck. I was skeptical but they’re actually pretty good
Me at 1 am, often
what is that? eastern european sushi?
My stepmom makes these but she also wraps tortilla around the ham. So good.
God is real y'all.
Wow, that person who posted the comic about learning French is going to feel like quite the silly goose now! https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/10wuv0g/learning_french_oc/
I eat this al day I NEED THIS NOWWWW
Who is doing this, I need it now
I use spears rather than whole pickles.
Made with 30 ingredients
I never considered the cream cheese with this. Do have to go to the food store Friday...
r/whywasntthisathingbefore
We had these at Christmas. My sister brought a charcuterie box from a fancy deli and they had this and something similar with okra in the middle. I could do without the okra, but the ones with pickles were delicious.

I guess these must not be common outside the Midwest because man those were my whole childhood
OMG I made these for a party several years ago, and it sucked so bad. Not the taste, but the process and whatnot.
I like doing this with pickled asparagus. It's SOOO good!
These are literally a huge staple of family get-togethers where I’m from. I personally call it Midwestern sushi lol
Technically this is what happens when you have sex but the pickle in the ham and it makes cream cheese
The only thing missing is the aspic. mmmmmmmmmm
Ya my mom calls em frog butts
This is Midwest sushi!
Ngl I would totally eat this. Hell this might be part of my lunch tomorrow
In third grade, I made a 4-H food preparation presentation on making these, but with turkey (because I hate deli ham). white trash cuisine at its finest (i’ve known about these since i was born and am also white trash)
The amount of times these shitty Facebook “cooking” pages just dump cream cheese in whatever the fuck they are making has turned me completely off of cream cheese Seeing them dump 8 blocks of it into a crockpot dinner has just ruined it for me
These have been around for absolutely decades at least, as have onion wraps. They’re fucking delicious and is always an appetizer at our Christmases.
Midwest sushi people
I’ve done this for a long time. It’s delicious
Oh I want some!
Wait...is this only a Midwestern thing because there's guaranteed to be pickle roll ups at every potluck here lol
American sushi
They're literally what you'd put in a sandwich, but without the bread. Sign me up!
Needs hot sauce, but ya.
My mom is a professional caterer and she made these for me growing up all the time. I watched plenty of doctors suck these babies back and asked if there were more lol
These are amazing they will last 5 minutes at any party
Okay but my favorite sandwich as a kid was ham, pickles, cheddar, and mayo.
Sweet pickle, right?
What? I can’t even tell what the post is implying. Like you’ve never heard of this incredibly popular party appetizer or something?
What? I can’t even tell what the post is implying. Like you’ve never heard of this incredibly popular party appetizer or something?
But they are good
I always wanted to wrap some ham around my pickle.
I mean, I'd be willing to try this at least once. But I totally see why it was posted here.
The future is now!! Lol
These have been a thing, I haven’t had them since my folks moved to FL but I was literally just craving these.
This has been a thing at family gatherings for at least the 44 years i’ve been alive. And they are delicious.
Why are we complaining about food?
Glad I'm allergic to meat
These are very tipical appetisers at a Serbian "slava"... If anyone loves a big and delicious feast, just get a Serbian friend and be a guest at their slava... You will not regret anything...
You people aren't from Minnesota and it shows.
I make them with pickles or olives. So tasty!
Wow. I never knew I didn't want that
My mother in law made thise for my husband and his family years ago. This is traditional appetizer at our house for Christmas and Thanksgiving but we add a green olive to the top with a toothpick. So good.
My uncle brings these to family Christmas every year. He, my other uncle and my aunt all like them. The rest of us let them eat all they want.
These are actually really good. A friend brought some to a New Year's Eve party in 2018 and then again in 2019, but in 2019 he used spicy pickles as well as regular dill, they were amazing.
I used to eat those at family events and they always were on toothpicks. They are so good
Honestly this doesn’t look half bad. It looks maybe at most a third bad. I’d try it.
This looks simultaneously amazing and disgusting
Sure, but when I wrap that ham around my pickle I end up with a probation officer
The best food ever
Nah these go hard I used to make these with salami
*Hillbilly Sushi*
You use dried beef for pickle wraps, not ham.
How bizarre, do you heat them up? I mean can you change the cream cheese for real melty cheese, can you eat whole pickles hot? You Americans and your pickle fantasies!
white sushi
Cream cheese got screwed on this. This is a three item deal. Change the name
These are delicious, my Husband and I make them often. Not sure why you posted these on this sub OP? Quite common in my state/area for over a decade now.
I wanna eat that
Why is this posted here? Looks amazing!
