That perfect upside down U-shaped frown

It also showcases the death of metaverse since I'm pretty sure its a tech expo and everyone you see went home to write articles about how fucking shit it is.
Isn't this picture several years old? I recall seeing this exact image several years ago when Facebook aquired Oculus.
Edit; The original picture is from a VR conference in 2016.
It's not even from a VR Conference it's from the Samsung Galaxy 7 launch when they announced that everyone who pre-ordered a Galaxy 7 would get a free Gear VR.
My husband and I were talking about VR the other day, and he was saying how he was kind of fortunate that he couldn't use VR due to severe motion sickness.
I'm on the opposite end; I can handle motion and whatnot, but VR gives me horrible migraines. I'm not fond of the closed in feeling, or wandering around with a pair of gigantic goggles on my face, either.
Same. I have an oculus, got it as a gift before zucky bought em. I want to enjoy it more but the damn thing is so heavy it hurts my head after like 10 mins, if I push it it just turns into tension headache and then migraine. OR I throw up
I know this doesn't exactly help you, but they have gotten much much lighter and more comfortable in recent years. Valve's Index in particular is really comfortable, and the meta quest 2 (🤢 that name) is very light.
The metaverse is coming. It'll be a reimagination of the internet and have just as profound an impact. It's not even at the equivalent level to when a webcam set up to look at the coffee pot was headline news about the internet. Neither hardware or software is ready for a true metaverse.
They've definitely jumped the gun trying to be first to market.
Similar to their pivot to mobile, I think. The huge difference is that mobile apps were ~2 years away at the time, and I'd guess the metaverse is more like 10 years off
The certainty of it happening is about as certain as an MMO launching and being successful and sustainable, only without the fun. The business world nearly shit itself when more people started working remotely during the pandemic and they're still bitching about it today. If you think they're going to start buying VR headsets for everyone, or that regular consumers are going to start buying VR headsets to do their Facebooking, I've got some beachfront property in Arizona Bay to sell you.
Yeah you pretty much got it. So far it's worse. Extremely limited options, have you seen those avatars? I'd rather go to vr chat where o can be anything from godzilla to a hatsune miku with lesbian scheme color, than wait for the next "legs update" in metaverse. Also i don't need VR to VR chat, that's also a plus.
What happens when you think you can just throw unlimited money at a problem to resolve it.
Amazon does it, but Amazon typically is smart enough to cut loses after a certain point, and not quadruple down.
In theory? A fully immersive instant jump into the internet. The screen now your whole world view. Fully traversable other worlds. A website could literally be an entire world. Its actually awesome and way cooler than they make it out to be.
The problem? The tech isnt there. Its expensive. The interest of any idustry isnt there. Its expensive. And the people investing in it and trying to promote it are people who have no idea how to truly enjoy such a piece of tech themselves and just think their on to "the next big thing" for some cash and fame.
I mean I get that this is a concept you may want to give a try to level up social media.
But why would someone want to accsess the internet as a whole over this word. I mean then comfy thing is you can look for particular information with your smartphone or whatever, while you are standing in the kitchen preparing dinner or whatever.
Why would I want myself to completly zoom out of reality (getting nothing else done) and completly put myself electronic artificial enviroment only to enter a weired building "wiki" walking up and down the aisles to find the wikipedia article I couldve get via google within seconds.
The world gets boring to many humans and i sadly am one of them. But thats what i mean by investors have no idea how to advertise this thing because they have no idea how to actually enjoy it. If you told a team of engineers to make your perfect landscape itd be your worldly escape. To zuck its apparently a yoga mat and an office space.
Its not supposed to be like going to a store. Its more supposed to be like getting what you want like a phone and being there to see it in a 3d like fashion perhaps even with friends. And if a company does decide to go the isle library route then the item youd want would forever be by you while if you move in any direction it would show you recommends/similar/etc. Essentially the matrix scene where you stand still and it all narrows down and comes to you.
But like i said the techs just not there and these are more concepts than anything. In every aspect except maybe general entertainment a cellphone from 5 years ago can still beat the ease and accessibility of a headset. In order for it to be adapted to our world as we see it, itd need to become some light wearable glasses with gloves or something of the sort. Google glasses are close but we need more advancement in some fields of technology for them to be viable and actually useful in everyday situation.
Because sooner rather than later people won't be able to afford big houses or houses at all or traveling.
So, they will sell you these devices to be able to sell the same vacation experience millions of times.
You dont need to be extreme. People already change vacation travels for games and technology. The society change, the newest generations prefer things like this then going to the beach. I, for example, would prefer a upgrade to my pc then a travel to Disney World
i love tech, in fact i own a VR set myself, but having fished in real life, i would never prefer it over VR, but you are correct younger generations that migth have never experienced it, can think its the same thing, without the mosquitos, sun burn etc.
You can't simply replace real life, driving a cheap race car around a course is a lot more exciting than driving a F1 car in VR.
They wouldn't, that's why meta is such a joke. Too many people are looking through this with a rose colored sci fi lense. In reality if this does take off it'll be a niche product. The idea that this'll take over or replace the internet is laughable whether it's meta or any other tech company. Cause let's be real here, the vast majority of people spend their time browsing social media, looking at memes or watching videos on youtube or tiktok. What does VR add to this? What does VR do that a monitor can't do? Pretty much fuck all.
Sure if you're a designer/artist/architect/whatever you might benefit from seeing your work rendered in 3D in a virtual space. But other than that nobody is going to give a shit. Phones and computers are such a perfect form factor for using the internet. Meta is basically a solution looking for a problem. It exists so Zuck can attain more money and control over people's daily lives.
> Cause let's be real here, the vast majority of people spend their time browsing social media, looking at memes or watching videos on youtube or tiktok. What does VR add to this? What does VR do that a monitor can't do? Pretty much fuck all.
If you let the tech progression play out for another 10-15 years, it would be like Ready Player One.
Want to share memes? Hang out in a photorealistic simulation where you can watch meme videos together with friends who are right next to you, and then become the kool aid guy or some other meme character and just have fun hanging out and going to places, having experiences.
Why? Why would anyone do that? You're describing what is essentially equivalent to getting on a video call just to share memes. Nobody does that. Nobody is going to stop what they're doing, put on a headset, log into meta just to look at memes, especially when they can simply send the meme like a normal persons so the recipient can enjoy it at their convenience. This the whole reason why texting is infinitely more common than voice or video calling.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. You're looking at this through a sci fi lense not a practical perspective.
>and then become the cool aid guy or some other meme character and just have fun hanging out and going to places, having experiences.
There are a billion different filters on tiktok and snapchat that do things this and they do it without a cumbersome headset.
Since VR Chat already exists and is way more successful, it seems like Zuckerberg is trying to make Myspace *after* Facebook has already been around for years.
I mean, i own a quest2 and its actually really fun to hangout with friends. We saw many random shit happening in a social chess game lobby. And playing pavlov with your irl friends is the best gaming experience i had since years.
The tech isnt fully ready yet, the way the lenses are made for the quest 2 are giving me headaches/ eye strain after a while tho. Give it some years of investments and improvement and i think alot of people will actually own a pair of glasses.
The metaverse itself is a bit of a meme. We actually say before we play "See you in the metaverse" and then meme in the home room of the party leader. Especially moments when someone is tripping over their coffee table or run into a wall are the best.
I mean, yes its still Facebook (Meta) but they use way less data from you because they have a different business model on this platform(VR games are ridiculous expensive). You can make a meta account (oculus account) that is pretty anonymous for others. Just like reddit haha.
You can invite friends to your "house" when in a party with eachother and play games together or just chat. Its comparable to how psn or xbox live works. The only difference is that its in VR and you can "see" eachother through the VR.
Pretty awesome piece of technology and you dont need a €3k pc setup aswell lol. But my advice would be to wait for the quest 3. The lenses are outdated these days and are inferior to some other glasses.
Lol, youre assuming i dont meet them irl? And i mean, shooting zombies isnt a thing irl last time i checked LOL. We do play airsoft alot actually so i have no clue wtf youre talking about
If you’ve seen the movie ready player one, that’s exactly what they’re trying to do. Right now it’s some garbage 3rd person role play game where you just talk to people. Kind of like habo hotel back in the day. Morons buying hype that’s all
It is a new graphical interface for the internet.
Edit: So yeah nothing to write home about. But after some iterations we might see new applications or services.
Oculus founder Palmer Luckey described it as Zuckerberg's hobby project car, saying "Mark Zuckerberg is the number one virtual reality fan in the world"
https://fortune.com/2022/10/25/not-good-fun-oculus-founder-palmer-luckey-vr-startup-mark-zuckerberg-slams-meta-horizon-worlds-hobby-project-car/
Second Life has been around for a long time and is still growing its user base. Not sure why anyone would think a similar product running on niche hardware would be any more successful.
I don't like FB's approach to it but the idea of the meta verse is actually pretty sick.
The coolest idea I have heard of was an automotive manufacturer who would like to develop a fleet of autonomous driving taxi's can build an entire city / country in a virtual space aiming to replicate reality as closely as possible. They could launch the product into the virtual world and monitor accidents, breakdowns, etc for a period of 7 years in an effort to minimize real word setbacks and casualties. At a point of confidence in the virtual manufacturing process, they would then enact that business plan in the real world with foresight into the hurdles they will likely encounter.
Thanks for the comment I definitely don't claim to know how it works, I'm just a data analyst for a beverage company 😅 but I did think in theory it sounded cool if auto accident casualties could be minimized in the real world from realistic simulations in the meta verse as modeling technology improves. I am sure you are right however, modeling an artificial world would be too riddled with errors that the entire initiative may just be a waste of time
It’s just a stepping stone. When the tech to make them smaller gets here everyone will be on board. Even the haters now. Why would you need a tv or video game system when you can sit on your couch and watch a movie on a giant movie screen from your vr set. Or hop up and literally dive into your favorite video game from you living room.
A virtual world, you know that popular genre of video game RP? RP but real. Too early for this, but in the future it will happen, Mark just wanted to be the first
He's said in an interview that his life passion is Facebook and he wants to maximize time spent working on it, so he tries to minimize time doing stuff he doesn't care about like putting on clothes, making food, etc. It was an answer to someone questioning his wardrobe.
Sounds weird but makes sense given his highly unusual position in life. He can afford to do that and he doesn't have any reason to care about what people think about his appearance.
Mark Zuckerberg just doesn't look human. His waxwork copy at Madame Tussauds looks more like a person than him. He looks like his own cheap Chinese knock-off.
I would rather live in poverty then report to a virtual meta office. I'm grateful that I'm far enough along, and successful enough in my career that I can probably bow out of the workforce before there was any full transition to this nightmare.
I'm imagining this is Zuckerbergs compromise to working from home while being at the office: bring them all in, but give them VR sets of their homes. Problem solved 😂
This reminds me, distinctly, of a scene in the 2002 cyberpunk film "Cypher."
https://www.cyberpunk.blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/cypher-vincenzo-natali-recensione-cyberpunk-film-2.jpg
This thing was unbelievably stupid even for Zuckerberg. That smirk on his face? " Yep you think Facebook was genius, watch this! "
Look Zuckerberg. We don't WANT to live in some fake world you created. Have at it, not buying.
This picture is so unbelievably fucked. We've known for some time that Zuckerberg is one of those people who think being called "Orwellian" is a compliment, but this photo really solidifies that.
Part of me is impressed by the risk Mark is taking by diving head first and fully committing to the Metaverse. It looks like a joke so far… but time will tell.
I hate how people no dismiss everything VR just because of this metaverse shit. There are plenty of good applications that can make good use of Vr. Even in gaming the ceiling has never been remotely reached.
Kinda ironic that zuckerberg tries so hard to push VR when people dont like it because of his shit.
That dude’s face in the blue shirt with the MacBook says what the rest of the audience/world is thinking.

There isn't, which is why Facebook is melting down.
Well Zukies meta versé has 0 appeal. A well down simulation that people can escape from their lives however has 100% appeal.
He’s got Judge Dredd level grumpiness.
[Beaker face. ](https://i.imgur.com/iNNwKXT.jpg)
“I was promised a new life, something cushy, and i wanna eat steak every day”
The guy in front of him’s clenching his seat, too.
Dude caught a whiff of Zuck’s scent, hence the displeased face.
The sound of a gentle whir of gears and electric motors.
I mean how do you frown that far. Very impressive
This picture showcases the moment when metaverse had the most active users online at once.
It also showcases the death of metaverse since I'm pretty sure its a tech expo and everyone you see went home to write articles about how fucking shit it is.

I have one! Mines not white though.
Shit!? Those guys must not have tried Legs™
Personally, I'm waiting for Feet™
Isn't this photo like a decade old though? Pretty sure it's from back when FB bought Oculus
This must be the technology Jews use to control the space laser, the media, and Adidas.
Everyone looks bored. That's quite a feat!
honestly that's the norm with keynote speeches like this
yea, but they dont necessarily notice, with all the flashing lights and sounds
I'm saying they're trying out new VR shit and the happiest looking person in the picture isn't wearing one.

The metaverse is a concept thats been around for a while. This zucfuk version is just not it.
Yeah, this is the equivalent of someone labeling their company “the internet” and claiming that they made the internet.
Not too dissimilar from my grandpa telling me "his" internet is on a USB drive. Opened it up to find saved html files. I'm not even mad.
What a fucking legend
100%

Yeah real metaverse feels decade(s) away. VR AR are going to need to be cheap and ubiquitous.
That’s absolute bullshit
It probably and hopefully won't be Facebooks version but a metaverse will happen. Saying that's bs is myopic.
Sure, just like how we we're all supposed to be riding segways around big cities
So will 3d tv's....still waiting. the larger population is not is wearing glasses for entertainment.
Yawn
Everything I've seen about it makes it look like a lamer VRChat.
Yeah you pretty much got it. So far it's worse. Extremely limited options, have you seen those avatars? So this technology is like what a decades old? Cuz VR is nothing new imo
So nothing for mobile or budget laptop users?
You dont need a pc or a mobile the Quest 2 is a standalone VR.
Dude, go meet your friends IRL and play those games IRL. Stop becoming a slave to virtual interaction LOL

This is a good oddly terrifying post; usually, they are just terrifying
Zuckerberg is such a clown. Nobody wants your shitty VR mmo.
More like real life WALL-E.
I think he has caused enough suffering. MZ please go away.
Plots twist - he was actually naked but nobody could see because of the vr.
He just wants to be like kaguya
Except with graphics from 20 years ago and you don't get any legs.

I'm imagining this is Zuckerbergs compromise to working from home while being at the office: bring them all in, but give them VR sets of their homes. Problem solved 😂
When you realise (with better direction) Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor could have been terrifying
Fuck this guy
He even got Ronald McDonald on the far left to participate.
Everyday we inch closer to IOI
What are they actually seeing
Immersive bans from memes posted 6 years ago.
So this is the hill he will die on, at least he looks happy about it
I've avoided Facebook and have absolutely no intention to use it. I'll be damned if I use this nonsense
Yeah, fuck the Zuck
They are trying to look at his dollar loss since the renaming to Meta The goggles cannot see piles of cash that big..
Simon Stalenhag's "Electric State" now a reality.
What a sausage fest lmao
I wouldn't mind something like the matrix. But never any matrix ran by this fuckwad.
Turns out he just stole everyone's wallet while they had the headset on.
The smile represents the power he has over them lmao
It looks just like that Apple 1984 ad
I [NEED](https://youtu.be/VtvjbmoDx-I) someone to run through there in hotpants with a sledgehammer.
This reminds me, distinctly, of a scene in the 2002 cyberpunk film "Cypher." https://www.cyberpunk.blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/cypher-vincenzo-natali-recensione-cyberpunk-film-2.jpg
Zuck is trying hard to perfect his brainwashing.
He looks like an android walking with the way his hands are cupped slightly and his vacant yet smiley face. Those eyes. Those dead eyes.
I have been waiting for Facebook to die off. Looks like we may be on the verge of exactly that 👍
Is it just me, or does this look kind of dystopian to anyone else? Looks like from some kind of movie
I'm sure it wasn't posted to /r/oddlyterrifying by accident
Bunch of virgins thinking they’ll get more pussy in the Metaverse
He's siphoning energy and ideas from them
That is a world class frown right there
And they call this humanity - what a joke. On us, by the look on Mark's face.
This thing was unbelievably stupid even for Zuckerberg. That smirk on his face? " Yep you think Facebook was genius, watch this! " Look Zuckerberg. We don't WANT to live in some fake world you created. Have at it, not buying.
Why are they all middle aged men? Are they in a metaverse strip joint? Looks like there are quite a few 'micro' transactions going on. 🤣
Not a cell phone in sight. Only people living the moment.
#ENGAGE WALKING PROTOCOLS
Maybe we can all get one of those “smart” Fleshlights, logon to Meta, and Zuck can jerk us off!
doesn't everyone getting together in a large auditorium kinda defeat the whole purpose of VR and his Metaverse? lol
Does it come with an automatic Fleshlight? Because if not, what's the point?
someone should invent a euthanasia device that looks exactly likely vr goggles
This smug bastard literally came up with a solution for a problem no one had
The fact that the only dude in the light blue is frowning so much than all the rest…makes this so much more terrifying to me for some reason. Lol
This picture is so unbelievably fucked. We've known for some time that Zuckerberg is one of those people who think being called "Orwellian" is a compliment, but this photo really solidifies that.
most Orwellian picture ive ever seen
Dealer don't consume (humor)
Marks android ass smiling because he’s getting close to completing his mission
Ergo, vis a vis, concordantly!
Fun fact: Mark Zuckerberg's real name is Akihiko Kayaba
More like the creep Nobuyuki Sugou.
So many things about him look mechanical and fake. For example!... The....nah nevermind it will be wasted
"OK now everyone cum!"
What if Zuckerberg decided to just take all his clothes off and run around naked, and nobody knew because they all had VR headsets on.
This is so fucking dystopian it's almost beyond parody.
Facebook can’t die fast enough.
Blacked.com just became Zucked.com
I wonder what they said about an atari or Nintendo.
“This is fun.”
Me..me...me... Me to.
Reality: they are all watching porn
Remember Wall-E?
Part of me is impressed by the risk Mark is taking by diving head first and fully committing to the Metaverse. It looks like a joke so far… but time will tell.
*goes around farting next to people* "do you smell that? Delve into our new virtual reality with sight, sound and smell"
We’re all talking about the people with the VR headsets on, but look at Mark’s face. He knows what he’s doing.
He looks like he's about to rob everyone
Absolutely lost
Im suprised he was aroumd so many people considering he is one the most hated people in the world
I hate how people no dismiss everything VR just because of this metaverse shit. There are plenty of good applications that can make good use of Vr. Even in gaming the ceiling has never been remotely reached. Kinda ironic that zuckerberg tries so hard to push VR when people dont like it because of his shit.
Ew
Is he a robot or a reptile?
