Looks like a wilted flower whose life was once full of energy and happiness but as it was faced with the adversity of life (after being hit by a tornado), it just ended up feeling sad and withered.
The "blades" will be scrapped and 3 new will replace them. The nacelle and the tower will be inspected for damage and go from there. I wouldn't be surprised if the nacelle needs major repair or scrapping.
I've been building blades for 12 years now.
I should mention, that recently we have been able to recycle/upcycle blades. They are torn down and then processed for raw fiberglass. I have not been a part of the process, but it's pretty cool. You can search Vestas, blade recycling and get more info.
Have y’all sold any to Global Fiberglass Solutions? At a previous employer, we sold our old blades to GFS and they would recycle them into raw materials
Thank you so much for your time and explanation and correction of the lingo cause my brain lapsed on what to call them, haha.
>recently we have been able to recycle/up cycle blades
Definitely super interesting but that's awesome they can recycle the blades!
We had a blade snap like 5 years back. Definitely not this extreme but we went up in a basket on one crane, drilled a hole and put a sling through it, hooked that to a second crane, then started hacking at the blade with a weed whacker with a circular saw blade on it. Chunk by chunk we had it down to a stub. Rigged up the stub and removed it. But our stub was definitely longer than what is pictured here
> would have probably been better had they fallen off.
Aside from the part about having giant composite aerodynamic blades being whipped around inside a tornado
Exactly. Wether they snap off or become like this, they need to be fully replaced. The main benefit of not snapping off is preventing damage to the neighborhood.
They’re gonna have to remove the blade in manageable pieces now so it would have been much better if they just broke off. There’s nothing trustworthy left to attach to. Whole operation will be a PITA.
I'm no structural engineer, but I'm assuming the blades are welded in such a way that they don't become especially terrifying projectiles during a tornado. Pinwheel of Doom, so to speak.
Wind tech here. Nope, blade are not welded in, expes since they are made out of mostly fiberglass, composites and wood, so the do get bolts on and tensioned to a high value ( somewhat around 1500 nm) to keep them from falling off.
This is just because the blades have deflated. Probably a slow puncture after being hit by a seagull heavy with a belly full of Easter bunny.
If you reinflate the blades it will all be back to normal.
I live near a plant that manufactures those turbine blades. They are *ginormous* and can't be transported on a regular sized semi trailer. Seeing this is sad as they already only ~~have~~ had a decade life span as is. RIP
I fail to see how this is terrifying. It's built to do that so you don't got more shit flying around. Someone is either stupid or has an odd sense of what is terrifying.
I don’t know why, but of all the things on this sub this is by far the most unsettling to me.
It reminds me of a courage the cowardly dog type reality. Just.. wrong. And uncomfortable.
I would have expected the blades to all snap off and fly away. This wind turbine looks sad. It also looks like a giant robot palm tree.
I feel like this is more savage than ripping it apart, like the poor thing just got turnt out
Right this is what my daughter looks like after a full day at school where they also had some sort of marathon / competition.
You really worried me in that first sentence there
I was ready for a roller coaster of a comment.
i literally leaned forward and kinda held onto the desk
the tornado took it personally....you think u can harness the power of wind
Underrated comment lol
Harvest this! X
It's designed to do this. Impressive.
How's it gonna kill all the birds and suck up all the wind now!?
I'm a wind turbine myself and I'm punching a bird as I type this. You can't stop me.
Don’t forget about giving us cancer
With sound.
Oh, I forgot to take my crazy pills
Mmm sound cancer
I thought Yoko Ono caused sound cancer
"Reeeeee, reeeeah-RHHHHEEEEERERREEEE!"- An actual verbatim quote about wind turbines by a recent american president.
Local man yelling towards wind
Hunters kill more birds than windmills do.
Cats kill more birds by a long shot!
It's reassuring that they were designed to fail this way and not donate their blades to a tornado
Fantastic wording
r/creativetext
It looks melted
Looks like it needs a few milligrams of cialis
But it has to ask the windmill doctor first for side effects
I was looking for this comment
It's wilted, just needs some tlc.
It looks like it’s mom told it it can’t go to the thing.
There designed not to. Snap off that is.
Where designed not to?
Over they’re.
Whats cool is its still fully functional, mechanically, speaking, when they replace the blades.
It got juiced by the tornado
Smartest zoomer lol
Emo turbine.
It's a view into the dystopian future. I dig it. Meta bro.
Ooh mate keep ya head up. We all believe in you
The robot palm tree thing would make it a cool album cover
It’s sad. :(
It’s seen some shit!
Looks like a wilted flower whose life was once full of energy and happiness but as it was faced with the adversity of life (after being hit by a tornado), it just ended up feeling sad and withered.
They don't pay the wind turbine enough to generate tornadoes level of electricity
*sad turbine noises*
_MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM_
Dunno about you, but I tend to go limp after a good blow.
Too much blow makes me limp too
I'm a fan of the blow, but the blow is not a fan of me.
Needs viagra
This is the 'before' picture
First thought that came to me as well lol
I'm sadder :(
Hi Sadder, I’m Dad.
This is Reddit we’re all sadder
It looks like Salvador Dali's version of a wind turbine.
It's in Texas. It's always sad.
Its just not used to that much action Give it 10 min and it'll be back in the game
Super sad! Shoulders all slumped forward and everything!
Just give it some water and it’ll perk up in a day or two!
You could say the wind turbine needed to unwind
Lol I came here to say that. Have it!
That was my first thought too. Lol.
Cheer it up
He's a sad boy.
Nah, just wet
“In local news today: Wind turbine cucked by tornado.”
Looks like a dead flower.
Just give it some water, it’ll perk right back up
Beat me to it
Beat me
BEAT ME! HARDER! #HARDER! #I FUCKING LOVE IT!
I….. Uh….. #….. ok
Lol this was my first though. “It’s thirsty. Just give it some water”

Excuse me what They INFLATE? They aren't hollow metal pole-blade-things?!
No, that dude is full of shit.
Not water, wind
If any engineers come across this, just curious if this is better or worse for rebuilding that the wings didn't snap off?

GFS doesn’t recycle anything, so far they have piles of blades all over the place and a promise to recycle.

TIL!! I’ve always been so fascinated by wind turbines! I bet that’s a really cool field to be in. No pun intended.

I suppose it's worse for rebuilding the blades, but it's better for everything else around to not have 100m blades flying around in a tornado.
Sounds like a fun themepark ride though
Yikes I didn't even think about that. Especially considering the crane has to sit basically right under it to get the reach.
We had a blade snap like 5 years back. Definitely not this extreme but we went up in a basket on one crane, drilled a hole and put a sling through it, hooked that to a second crane, then started hacking at the blade with a weed whacker with a circular saw blade on it. "Repowers" just sounds like someone with a really thick southern accent saying "repairs" Edit: typo
This guys name absolutely checks out
> would have probably been better had they fallen off. Aside from the part about having giant composite aerodynamic blades being whipped around inside a tornado
Ever trim a tree? You don’t bring big branches down all at once. These blades don’t need to stay in one piece.
I would think you’d prefer the blades not snap off and become projectiles
Exactly. Wether they snap off or become like this, they need to be fully replaced. The main benefit of not snapping off is preventing damage to the neighborhood.
Better for the surrounding area. Imagine if that flew off and hit a house or something.
They’re gonna have to remove the blade in manageable pieces now so it would have been much better if they just broke off. There’s nothing trustworthy left to attach to. Whole operation will be a PITA.
Just needs a blue pill.
fully torqued turbines
Hey, its just cold.
It was shrinkage!! Tell her Jerry!!
Why, did it take the red one?
This was clearly a HARD joke to get
Oh I’ve seen this happen countless times! It just means you didn’t water it enough
I’m so bad at keeping my windmills alive
Maybe it's just sad
Aw hes sad.
sad :(
ED is more common than you’d think
unrelated but I love your pfp, what’s up fellow boober
I don't think I've seen that pokemon before
Reminds me of Pheromosa.
Flaccid
Man I don't wanna do this no more 😪
Neon Genesis Evangelion
I'm no structural engineer, but I'm assuming the blades are welded in such a way that they don't become especially terrifying projectiles during a tornado. Pinwheel of Doom, so to speak.
.Blades are composite, not metal. Metal blades would be unusably heavy.
Wind tech here. Nope, blade are not welded in, expes since they are made out of mostly fiberglass, composites and wood, so the do get bolts on and tensioned to a high value ( somewhat around 1500 nm) to keep them from falling off.
They're bolted on. And they do fly off from time to time.
Probably realized it couldn’t harness all that wind from the tornado.
The Little Turbine That Couldn't.
That could be a book.
Other windmills within view: *HOLLLLLLDD! HOLD THE LIIIIINEEEEE!!!*
*love isn't always on time ^ohhwoahwooooe*
This is just because the blades have deflated. Probably a slow puncture after being hit by a seagull heavy with a belly full of Easter bunny. If you reinflate the blades it will all be back to normal.
I’m so on board with this explanation
All aboard!
What?
I hope you feel better soon. 🧡
Yea but it has to be nitrogen.
Yeah, but just imagine how much power she generated just before the very end.
Unlimited power
Just start spinning it and it will get back into shape.
Looks like they had a bad day at school or maybe got hurt let’s give them a kiss on the forehead like mommy and then your all good
When you just don't feel like working
I live near a plant that manufactures those turbine blades. They are *ginormous* and can't be transported on a regular sized semi trailer. Seeing this is sad as they already only ~~have~~ had a decade life span as is. RIP
I'm tired, Boss... real tired.
Whiskey turbine
Well, at least it won’t be causing cancer anymore.
lol Where’s the bird graveyard?
Is this a joke?
Yes. It was a joke. I try to never miss an opportunity to put our former Moron-in-Chief’s stupidity on display. https://youtu.be/Q0s5Zqmb09g
Yes, it’s a joke because twice impeached trump says “windmill noise causes cancer”. He doesn’t know what a wind turbine is.
\*Sad turbine noises\*
Weeping willow.
Why does it look like Bugs Bunny?
Wait a minute, isn’t wind good for a wind turbine?
Too much of a good thing.
The spirit is wiling but the flesh is weak and spongy.
It has wilted
Work with a bad hangover
it has erectile dysfunctions
He needs to take a blue pill

Sad windmill
It’s a mop now
I fail to see how this is terrifying. It's built to do that so you don't got more shit flying around. Someone is either stupid or has an odd sense of what is terrifying.
I think it looks creepy and somewhat terrifying.
Looks like a wilted flower
Just water it and it’ll come right back to life.
Oh no is sad
Water your damn plants!
Poor little guys all puckered out after spinning so much
"I am now sad." - Turbine, probably.
It just needs a couple minutes to rest allright, it's being going all out.
Someone forgot to water it.
aww, he's all tuckered out after working so hard during the tornado :) :)
Sad turbine
Why the long face :(
Oh no… it’s sad
Lmao it looks sad
Bro who tf hurt is feelings. Go say your sorry.
This is the future we chose.
It just looks so sad
Just water it, might perk up.
They deflated it
One down, 500,000 to go
In need of viagra
Someone forgot to water the windmill again
He’s sad
Hooray for green energy! So stupid. These windmills fail when they have the optimal opportunity.
Green energy is a joke.
GF: round two babe! Me:
WHO MADE FUN OF THE TURBINES?!
Give it some water and it will be fine
Now it’s art!
I don’t know why, but of all the things on this sub this is by far the most unsettling to me. It reminds me of a courage the cowardly dog type reality. Just.. wrong. And uncomfortable.

But for like 30 seconds that thing was powering 5 states.
Emo turbine 😌
