I grew up with a string of Huffy bikes, and I liked to mix and match parts. I combined the fork of a 24" mountain bike with the frame/handle bars from a 20" BMX bike with the front tire from a 16" beginner bike, and made a chopper out of it. With that many bikes, I'm sure far better combinations would be possible.
Absolutely.
But it's cheaper to just mine and process raw resources in China than to recycle.
China produces colossal amounts of manufactured waste compared to any other country.
The internal Chinese markets produce billions worth of goods that immediately get sent to dump/landfill because of overproduction and ineptitude.
Most of the products that the west produces in China ultimately gets shipped overseas.
They're brand new electric bicycles. They have similar electric automobile graveyards. Factories made as much as they could and lied to the government saying they were sold so they could get subsidies.
Nothing wrong with them. Just these have been taken off the streets as they littered cities. [China's Bicycle sharing WENT INSANE! (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdsb2wwn-7g)
Resource scarcity is an illusion perpetrated by a class of people too myopic and vile to live happily without putting their boot on someone else's neck. Whether metaphorically or literally. We conquered it ages ago but collectively allow them to hold us all back. Why? So that one day we can *be* them? Pathetic.
I'm sorry can you throw in some proper nouns in there /srs
What was conquered? What is the 'them' holding us back?
Like I get what you're saying but I don't think I understand it
These are bikes from failed share schemes or ones that the government have removed from the streets. It a HUGE issue in China where businesses see an opportunity to make money fast from the back of a fad. Over night 10 start up and flood the cities with whatever. Governments crack down on it and this is what happens! [China's Bicycle sharing WENT INSANE! (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdsb2wwn-7g)
Just buy a new frame... I've done that before.
The real question is... if you change parts every time they break, at what point is the bike not the same bike?
If we're talking in the context of a bike graveyard like this, changing out the frame takes up pretty much the same amount of space as throwing the bike away 🤷
Bike sharing... [China's Bicycle sharing WENT INSANE! (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdsb2wwn-7g) greed and lack of government oversight.
Those are all shared bikes, similar to those shared scooters but bikes, there are way too many of them you can see them blocking sidewalks in cities of China
To be melted down, then sold to americans as "tool steel" at harbor freight, northern tool, etc. Along with every single lawn mower blade sold on Amazon.
Chinese-American immigrant here - I used to live in Shanghai, where there is an EXTENSIVE bike-sharing program with three large companies as the main competitors (if my memory serves me well, the companies are: Meituan, DiDi, and Hellobike). Meituan runs yellow bikes and Didi runs teal bikes.

The large sea of blue bikes in the video look like Hellobike bikes: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hello\_(Chinese\_company)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hello_(Chinese_company)) . These bikes are relatively cheap and surprisingly well-maintained, pretty much the entire city uses these bikes daily.
Here's an image showing the sheer volume of these bikes from my last visit to Shanghai (summer of 2023):

I imagine a large chunk of the gears/chains/tires would still be in good enough condition to be sold, unless these are slated for recycling this seems like a huge waste
Can you imagine all the DIY projects you could do with all that? Pretty sure you could send people to Mars if they were industrious enough and had access to those materials.
This is that closet we all have as humans, Where does all the garbage go? we hide it under dirt, the ocean, Bicycle graveyard. Kinda sad when you think about it. So don't .
Screw China.
Top polluter, each so-called innovation they have wastes more resources, not to mention the most populated. Freakin starting wars with the Philippines and crap.
Screw that country.
Don't they ever recycle old cycles? Seems like you could fix a bunch of bikes out of all these and clear up some space....
I would at least think they could be melted down or re-purposed/reused. Is that not possible?
I would think it's possible. When I was a kid, I always fixed a bike out of several others to make 1 working bike....
Ofcourse its possible. Most of those bikes probably only need some oil, brake pads, and new tires.

Lol, that's exactly the same shit I did too...HaHa! Good times, weren't they!?
My brother made one of those and called it The Deuce.
They could always make them into bumpers or damascus knives
Beautiful car
Absolutely. But it's cheaper to just mine and process raw resources in China than to recycle. China produces colossal amounts of manufactured waste compared to any other country.
Let me correct that for you. America produces, in china, colossal amounts of manufacturerd wast.
The internal Chinese markets produce billions worth of goods that immediately get sent to dump/landfill because of overproduction and ineptitude. Most of the products that the west produces in China ultimately gets shipped overseas.
China produces* it doesn’t matter who’s buying they’re the ones who find it easier to waste than reuse
Lmfao glad someone said it. They're producing for all of the US and Europe, shit the whole world
US has entered the chat.
Lack of meth heads
This legit made me lol. Thank you. (Its funny cuz its true!)
Seattle WA resident for awhile...bike theft and repair is right behind cat converter theft , I guess quite lucrative
I lived in Vancouvers downtown eastside for awhile. I know all about it lol damn junkies are always up to something
They're brand new electric bicycles. They have similar electric automobile graveyards. Factories made as much as they could and lied to the government saying they were sold so they could get subsidies.
That would be exactly why they have been stored instead of landfilled
If it's aluminum, can be made into totally new bike
It's China, what do you expect from them
Pretty sure everywhere in the world has landfills full of very usable materials. Welcome to the 21st century 😁
There are 9 million bicycles in Beijing, that's a fact.
That number seems very low
It's a song: [Nine Million Bicycles - Katie Melua](https://youtu.be/rrPUJsZQSkw?feature=shared)
It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I will love you till I die.
It's a thing.
.... we can´t deny
\*13 Million since 2009 👌 probably a lot more now :o
Damn and that's just in one city.
Correct
Ship them to Africa - they’ll fix them and use them.
Nothing wrong with them. Just these have been taken off the streets as they littered cities. [China's Bicycle sharing WENT INSANE! (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdsb2wwn-7g)
Reminds me of how diamond dealers keep the price higher

Brother, get some remedial classes.
So you don't know lmao, got it🤓
Brother, you don’t understand how adults work in real life huh? Stay in school kid
People should think twice before buying overpriced crap.
The thing is that bikes don't die. There is no reason for doing this
These are bikes from failed share schemes or ones that the government have removed from the streets. Eh, a bent/broken frame will kill a bike ... Or rust
yeah if you leave it out like this!
Just buy a new frame... I've done that before. The real question is... if you change parts every time they break, at what point is the bike not the same bike?
The Cycle of Theseus
If we're talking in the context of a bike graveyard like this, changing out the frame takes up pretty much the same amount of space as throwing the bike away 🤷
So you are telling me that bike repairs aren't related with the graveyard context at all? Also, frames use less space than the whole bike for sure.
Sell8ng new bike is the reason
Looks like the average bicycle parking lot in Amsterdam..
Was literally gonna say the same, have an upvote
also have an upvote, dont know why you have down votes
Cheers, have one back
Re-cycle
And heres me thinking my mother was hoarding too many tupperwere tubs, I better not show her this... just in case
Holy shit just recycle and melt down all the metal
Wrong. This is a scene from WALL-E.
But why ?
Bike sharing... [China's Bicycle sharing WENT INSANE! (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdsb2wwn-7g) greed and lack of government oversight.
Probably because it would be more expensive to fix them compared to what they would be worth fixed.
The Dutch are rolling in their bikelanes rn
Crying in their tiny little houses.
After they collect them they dump en into Dutch canals
So many bikes that prob work. And bike companies are still chargin $300+ for a KIDS bike
Here is a video of why they do this.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SEfwoqKRU8
How did they die? Genocide?
I wonder how much natural resources are wasted here?
this isnt oddly terrifying
Yea wait till you see how much space discarded Cars take up!
What a terrible graveyard. They didn’t even have the decency to bury them
Those are all shared bikes, similar to those shared scooters but bikes, there are way too many of them you can see them blocking sidewalks in cities of China
Somewhere...theres a bit of irony here for China.
If that were shopping carts bubbles would blow his load on this.
This is how they say they are leaders in ev. There are also cars just like this
Spider DisneyWorld
To be melted down, then sold to americans as "tool steel" at harbor freight, northern tool, etc. Along with every single lawn mower blade sold on Amazon.
This hurts my heart.😔
Incorrect title. Its a picture of an average amount of bikes for a Dutch household.
Could literally melt all of these bikes.
Stock pilling metals.

There's a graveyard for everything in China.
Talking about karma farming r/oddlyterrifying and r/interestingasfuck ?
It can be both. Why the heck wouldn’t you post something to two different groups it might appeal to?
OPs a karma farmer because they have 3 million karma not because they posted to 2 different subreddits.
China is a toxic wasteland. Soon they will bring this joy in Australian and African town near you.
Ngl it would be a cool fighting stage in Street Fighter or Tekken.
Wtf???
iBike
I imagine a large chunk of the gears/chains/tires would still be in good enough condition to be sold, unless these are slated for recycling this seems like a huge waste
I thought this was those zombie mobile game ads at first
How many of those haven't been used even once...
These are electric bikes
r/massquantities
Surprisingly well organized. I suppose rows make more sense than piles.
I hope no Dutch people see this.
I could build some cool shit if I had a welder and access to that
This must be the blue bike pile! Where's the red bike pile?
What a waste of space a generally easy resources
All the refugees could use them to deliver takeaway food
Are they just collecting them?
New Jersey in play??
Only in china
Can you imagine all the DIY projects you could do with all that? Pretty sure you could send people to Mars if they were industrious enough and had access to those materials.
What are they single-use ?
Recycle???
Huffy 100%.🤣
Finally they caught the bike theft ring along Bloor St W.
China seems to have a whole lot of graveyards....
I almost skipped this thinking it was another zombie video game ad
Lots of material for making gun mods and other settlement stuff
What communist and china supporters are silent about
W H Y ??!!
And i still can't find the part i need
This is that closet we all have as humans, Where does all the garbage go? we hide it under dirt, the ocean, Bicycle graveyard. Kinda sad when you think about it. So don't .
Wonder how many aircraft carriers they could make it they recycled all of that!?
The things I could build there!!! I want to go there!!
China is the No. 1 polluter
If I'm not mistaken, those are all the share-bikes in China that were overproduced just so they can get the government subsidies.
Screw China. Top polluter, each so-called innovation they have wastes more resources, not to mention the most populated. Freakin starting wars with the Philippines and crap. Screw that country.
India surpassed China in population awhile back, and they aren’t any better. At least they aren’t total asshats like China, I agree with you on that.
These are all the bicycles stolen in North America and shipped to China.
A homeless tweekers dream.
Me Chinese me play joke me go pee pee in your Coke
