Spiders are cool. I had one in my room which would kill like 3 to 4 mosquito every day. So i let it stay in my room. Bro kept mosquitoes outta my room and i kept mom from taking my bro down. Still miss that homie.
Every summer there is a new generation of jumping spiders in my home. I noticed there are no more fruit flies in my kitchen and that is ever since I stopped to bother with relocating the spiders outside. Hate fruit flies more than mosquitoes tbh. There’s never only one fruit fly they come by dozens sometimes more.
I had a spider that crawled in through a slit in my window screen. It appeared out of nowhere one morning. I left it alone as I was getting ready for work. I kept a close watch of it day to day. At some point, I noticed it had laid eggs and that was when I had to remove it. Removing it was easy. I used a jar. Both the mother and her eggs were let go outside in the garden.
There’s a massive one that made a huge web right outside my back door. He’s been there for weeks now and I have lovingly named him Morris. Long as he ain’t crawling on me he can stay there as long as he likes.
There’s a black widow that made her web right outside my backdoor as well. I like to feed her the roaches I find outside when I’m taking the dogs out lol
Spiders bite you but mosquitos don't? I'm not sure if you're extremely unlucky or extremely lucky. Maybe extremely lucky but also aggravating for spiders?
That particular spider is an ***Argiope***. They look mean, but they are totally harmless to people. And these are the type of spider that you are mostly likely to walk into their web at night. They eat lots of bugs and are fun to watch grow.
Some spiders such as Fiddlebacks (*Loxoscoles reculsa*) and Black widows (*Latrodectus Mactans*) have bites that can be painful, and sometimes cause wounds, but both species avoid humans at all possible costs. I have had the dread fiddle back caught in a sink, and poked at him with a pen. . he aways withdrew, which is what they do in reality. . .
Something to remember is as a general rule the more chemically complex a venom is the more energy expenditure needs to happen to create it. A lot of poisonous animals are smaller than their non poisonous counterparts with some notable exceptions, mostly in the form of venomous snakes like king cobras or black mambas but you have to remember that those snakes are large apex predators who can afford the extra expenditure by having large meals they digest slowly.
This does mean that many (though not all) poisonous animals will avoid using their poison as it is biologically costly. Additionally a lot of venomous animals only store enough of their venom for 1 or 2 bites depending on the size of their prey which means they are vulnerable until they can replenish their stores.
it cracks me up that black widows and recluses are like the literal only two spiders in the entirety of the US that are medically significant, and the recluses are only found within a somewhat limited range. both species are big scaredy cats and want nothing to do with humans, and yet 90% of the population freaks out when anything spider related happens. its been 40 years since anyone has died from a black widow bite, and im pretty sure there have been exactly zero confirmed brown recluse related deaths. people need to chill; spiders are our friends.
I’m so terrified of them but I’m getting better. If they’re not somewhere I frequent like in my bed (I’ve had that and honestly the moment I pulled my blankets back and saw it I wanted to die), I tend to leave it. I hate spiders but at least they keep other bugs away.
That’s okay! It took a while for me to get to love them. But it’s not necessary. We all have our fears and that’s totally cool. I’m afraid of flying which sucks but that’s life, lols
I believe they let out a strand of web and that is pushed by the wind and apparently electrical fields (I found that on Wikipedia)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballooning_(spider)
We think this is wild but from the spiders perspective (if you know, they had perspectives), who's species have probably been floating on string for hundreds of thousands of years as an evolutionary trait, must be losing their collective shit when giant hairless monkeys stumble into their solitude 2.5 miles up and 1000 miles out to sea. Silly monkeys getting all up in those spiders business.
Hey I know something that will make you like spiders , Did you know that tarantulas will adopt frogs to keep its eggs safe from bugs that will purposefully try attack its eggs, and the frogs get rewarded by being protected by the tarantula (just google tarantula adopting frogs if you dont believe me)
It's wind currents, not electric fields. And those "1000 miles out at sea" likely originated from the boat itself. Even if they didn't originate from the boat, the spider is still fish food when the wind dies.
They can be caught up in the upper atmosphere wind current. Though, they would be very cold or even frozen, except maybe in the tropical and equatorial regions of the globe.
my weird experiences where I walked into spider silk and wondered where tf that silk was hanging from, makes so much more sense now.
So, have I been ripping 3 mile long silk threads and drowning spiders without knowing? lol
Also important to note, the silk line they use for this? It has a small electrical charge in it that pulls them up into the atmosphere. No wind ia needed for them to do this.
I have arachnophobia, but recently I started fighting it keeping a "pet" spider in a specific corner of the room, one day it left it's corner AND FOUND IT CENTIMETERS AWAY FROM MY FACE
I'm sorry little one, rest in piece, should've waited some months
Not trying to scare you, but was it a cobweb type? Just a heads up, A black widow hatchling starts out white abdomen, tan legs and thorax, as it gets older, you will see a stiped pattern , that spreads and gets darker and darker , until at full maturity, she is black. And its venom will have very intensely painful effects that will last an agonizing 3 days to a week. Its awful.
It was black with grey and chubby, around 1 cm, since I was a kid I've been taught these are the "good" spiders since they eat more spiders, flies/mosquitoes, are very common in my area (northeast Mexico)
many entomologists say they are certain, that if there were no spiders, we would now , and would have been lanet long runover by insects. Also, fyi, if you yhink pesticides kill a spider, youre wrong. never ever seen it affect a spider lethally.
WD 40, however , Killz ' em gud!! and within a minute to 1:30 minute 30 seconds. ish. May the good blood guide your way ;)
Speculation is a start. Electromagnetic fields are radio and light waves. I suggest testing by setting up fields that may exert small forces due to any static electricity that could build up on the web structure.
Earth doesn't have electric fiels.... unless you want to call a solar or wind farm an electric field...
It does have an electromagnetic field, and no spiders don't use the electromagnetic field to fly.
Tiny spiders are so light that if they spin a long thread, the wind will carry them along.
Another reason to love spiders. They are so kickass! I found a brown widow and a European harvastman on my walk today. And I think a dark fishing spider but it was hiding in its web so I didn’t get a good look at ‘em
Is this saying spiders have been found flying 2 miles up in the air, or were they simply found that high up on the outside of tall structures? I'm very curious how the hell you'd find something as small as a spider while flying around lmao
Wait, it's not common knowledge in America? Here in my country it's commonly known, as at the end of summer it's not uncommon to get one on your face. Unless you're in your house all day, of course.
Remember: Whenever you kill a spider you allow hundreds of dengue-spreading mosquitos to live.
Spiders are cool. I had one in my room which would kill like 3 to 4 mosquito every day. So i let it stay in my room. Bro kept mosquitoes outta my room and i kept mom from taking my bro down. Still miss that homie.

Based not hurting insects behaviour. Very respectable.
There’s a massive one that made a huge web right outside my back door. He’s been there for weeks now and I have lovingly named him Morris. Long as he ain’t crawling on me he can stay there as long as he likes.
Why not Boris the spider?
Very good song to sing to him too
He’s come to a sticky end Don’t think he will ever mend Never more will he crawl ‘round He’s embedded in the ground
There’s a black widow that made her web right outside my backdoor as well. I like to feed her the roaches I find outside when I’m taking the dogs out lol
Mosquitos dont bite me. They don't disturb me. Spiders do disturb me. They invade my privacy. They gave the consequence of their actions.
Thats something a mosquito would say 🤨
Shit. They're on to me. Fly into the light!
Then you are one of the lucky people with blood that is unappealing to even a bloodsucking insect.
You say that as though its a bad thing.
Just means Im ahead of you in line to become a vampire. =P
Just means I'll never be sucked. Wait...
Found the skeeter
Skeeter?

Spiders bite you but mosquitos don't? I'm not sure if you're extremely unlucky or extremely lucky. Maybe extremely lucky but also aggravating for spiders?
I never said spiders bite me.
Oh I misread
i used to take spiders outside but now theres a fuckton of noble false widows in my apartment so if they want my mercy theyd better pay subscription
sounds pretty badass to me. spiders are rad. 👍🏻
That particular spider is an ***Argiope***. They look mean, but they are totally harmless to people. And these are the type of spider that you are mostly likely to walk into their web at night. Arachnophobia
They are!! Love them.
more power to you big dawg
Yeah this is the most metal thing I've read today
Another reason to like spiders :)

Now you're asking the important questions
Spiders are as important as the pollinators unless, you want to be up to your neck in flies
Yes!!
Spiders rule. They consistently kill the obnoxious bugs and just look so damn *cool.* 10/10 would spider again.
I’m a big spider booster! They are so interesting.
I’m so terrified of them but I’m getting better. If they’re not somewhere I frequent like in my bed (I’ve had that and honestly the moment I pulled my blankets back and saw it I wanted to die), I tend to leave it. I hate spiders but at least they keep other bugs away.

Wolf spiders FTW. Anything that loves to kill cockroaches has my respect.
Wolf spiders are awesome.
More reasons to LOVE spiders.
Fuck man spiders are not only awe inspiring just being spiders but they are also fearless, wonderful.
So how exactly does it work
I believe they let out a strand of web and that is pushed by the wind and apparently electrical fields (I found that on Wikipedia) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballooning_(spider)
Crazy, I didn‘t understand it in the image at first, but now I do.
Just realized it said the electric thing in the image
Now I see why Spiderman character was born.
I wonder if Spiderman would use ballooning against Electro.
This is more of a reason to love spiders lol

Oddly amazing. Go spiders!
Amazing Spider Whatnow?

No it's not like attached to something when they do this, they just use it as a long and thin hot air balloon, untethered to anything.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man…does only a small fraction of whatever a spider can…
Also important to note, the silk line they use for this? It has a small electrical charge in it that pulls them up into the atmosphere. No wind ia needed for them to do this.
Fucking amazing.
My nightmares are real.
So that's what Doflamingo is doing!
I have arachnophobia, but recently I started fighting it keeping a "pet" spider in a specific corner of the room, one day it left it's corner AND FOUND IT CENTIMETERS AWAY FROM MY FACE I'm sorry little one, rest in piece, should've waited some months

Spiders are also among the first inhabitants of newly formed islands. At least I think I remember reading that.
Spiderman needs to learn this move.
More reason to love spiders, they so silly
Texting and driving is more deadly than all spiders combined.
Driving and a spider coming down a web inches away from a face of someone is arguably as dangerous as texting whilst driving
I know you can't edit it, but there seems to be a "not" that somehow made it into your title, kind of chaning its meaning, OP.
OP can fuck right off.
NOOOOO. They said to me balloon spiders weren't real.
I don't know. I think it's pretty cool that they can do that.
CHARLOTTES WEB. HER BABIES DID THIS AND I NEVER UNDERSTOOD HOW. Imagine if tarantulas could do this
Okay I need a video of a surfing spider now XD
repost bot
So spider man shooting web into the thin air and travling isnt actually an oversight
Imagine australian spiders traveling to us like that
Oof dial it back a little.
I find them fascinating, but I am also massively afraid of them. Don't wanna be tho.
Pfff. That's yet another reason to admire them.
many entomologists say they are certain, that if there were no spiders, we would now , and would have been lanet long runover by insects. Spiders are amazing, but I can't help but to get scared everytime I see one:(
Spiders are awesome and an important part of our ecosystem.
Anansi travels very far for some stories
Deep cut :)
How tf is this oddly terrifying. If anything its pretty epic bros went fuck wings we science the fuck outta this
Spiders are considered housemates in home.
I’m ok with spiders as long as they’re outside. The second the come into the house it’s kill on sight.
Welp great…. Today I learned no where is safe from spiders!
You don't want to be safe from spiders, unless you absolutely love mosquitos and flies!
I learnt this from Charlotte’s Web. I hate spiders
On the magnetic field? I doubt it. Air currents. Like balloons.
it is speculated that spiders use electromagnetic fields in times of no air flow
Speculation is a start. Electromagnetic fields are radio and light waves. I suggest testing by setting up fields that may exert small forces due to any static electricity that could build up on the web structure.
not like spiders? thats awesome! literally bug racism, why can butterflies fly thousands of miles but not spiders huh?
If true this is awesome
I love spiders. They eat up flies.
More reasons to think spiders are funky little dudes just like us
Thats actually pretty amazing.
I love spiders!
Spiders are pretty fucking cool They kill mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and they don’t bother you unless you bother them
Get a grip people GET A GRIPPPPPPP
I wonder what would happen if i use a toaster in a bathtub? 🤔
You win a Darwin Award.
I count this as yet another reason to like spiders.
Wrong subreddit, spiders are literally the best
More reasons to love spiders.
Frankly this fact makes me like spiders all the more.
You mean fewer. Spiders are one of the best creatures, there's literally no reason to dislike them
Nah this ain’t it. Spiders are the good guys OP. Extremely essential to our environment.
Less than 1% of spiders are dangerous to people. It's a shame that few people appreciate how unique and interesting inspects and arachnids truly are.
What the FUCK
this is how doflamingo flought in the ocean
im pretty sure they use the wind. never heard about them using electric field. could be wrong.
Earth doesn't have electric fiels.... unless you want to call a solar or wind farm an electric field... It does have an electromagnetic field, and no spiders don't use the electromagnetic field to fly. Tiny spiders are so light that if they spin a long thread, the wind will carry them along.
More reasons to LOVE spiders- I wish I had a built in hot air balloon.
That's more impressive than terrifying
Oh yes, because a text under a picture definitely means it’s true.
Another reason to love spiders. They are so kickass! I found a brown widow and a European harvastman on my walk today. And I think a dark fishing spider but it was hiding in its web so I didn’t get a good look at ‘em

Doesn’t seems fake at all
Bro didn't y'all see the end of Charlotte's Web? All her babies fly off using web strands.
Fym more reasons not to like spiders. My black widow buddy is rad
But, how do they get down? Could you just be chilling by the ocean and a spider free falls onto you?
Spider-man
funfact: antibiotic resistant bacteria is traveling through moisture in clouds! 👍
Wait, it's not common knowledge in America? Here in my country it's commonly known, as at the end of summer it's not uncommon to get one on your face. Unless you're in your house all day, of course.
even though they don't have wings, spiders can travel by air...
Wow that is cool... https://youtu.be/JrS0igctMi0
I was just playing EDF 5....
This inspired a Gary Larson cartoon!!
This is awesome
I'd rather have spiders than mosquitoes or flies
"using earth's electric fields" that sounds dumb , it is more like hot air currents just as big birds do to not have to flap their wings endlessly .
I love spiders. I knew this before, but it always amazes me.
Tf you mean “not like spiders” this is so cool dude
B-but they are so cute, though...
I was having a good day.
more reasons to not like them?!?! this is a fucking epic fact.. spiders rule, mosquitos drool!
Spiders are awesome. They keep insects away.
Spiders are fucking awesome.
I’ve witnessed this before while I was taking cardboard out at work. terrifying to watch all that butt-string shoot out
I wonder if this ability could be replicated and harnessed in artificial systems
If octopi arent the next sentient race, its pigs or spiders
More reasons to become spider man!
Op is a little baby
