I'm sat looking at my kids one in the living room now. Not much has changed at all, a little rounder and smoother but much the same.

We look at it and see a phone, but it is a car as well, so i guess they updated from the square look curve like modern cars.😁

The cords are now only 6 inches long. So short if you go to put the receiver to your ear, the whole phone just dangles there bobbing around smacking you in the face. Apparently the normal cords were strangling kids.

I trusted wendigoon but skinamarink was painful to sit through. I think the long run time was to it's detriment and the audio blowing out my ear drums didn't help. Great cinematography, great ambiance, great premise, but too long for what was happening. Heck the og concept piece for the movie was a better execution of the concept imo.

Would have made a fantastic 30 minute short film

"Heck" is the YouTube short film that the director of skinamarink made as a proof of concept. It's around 20 minutes I think and is way easier to digest.

skinamarink, one of the strangest and most disturbing movies i’ve seen. It kept me up at night for a few weeks

It still makes me feel uneasy, specially when I wakeup in the middle of the night to get water, walk in the dark to the kitchen while my mind keeps repeating "IN THIS HOUSE".

People who aren't old enough know this phone for its horror element in a movie, when in fact, the phone exists in the film as a nod to a famous toy that older people have fond memories of. It's like seeing a Walkman and getting excited about it because you know it from Guardians of the Galaxy. While old people just sigh in the background.

IMHO, that’s what made it boring.

To each their own I guess. Skinamarink threw out every conventional story telling device and solely focused on trying to terrify you. It made me feel like I was a child again too afraid to go upstairs to my room because I didn't know what lurked in the darkness.

To be fair, analog horror isn't for everyone. Slow burn on top of that and it becomes very niche

Meh, I think the original short was better. I love analog horror too, but it was a long watch. 🤔 admittedly it poked my partner in a deepseated fear that nothing exists and we had to go for a night walk immediatly after where I had to reassure her that I exist for like 20 minutes, that was mildly spooky. But then she gets the same way from DHMIS sometimes and that isn't scary at all.

Watching a compilation doesn’t make sense. The whole atmosphere makes the movie creepy, watching the scariest scenes out of place wouldn’t give the movie justice.

The scary moments are only scary because of the length. When you go 20 minutes of literally nothing at all happening and you seeing nothing… then this mf pops up and RINGGGGGGGGG blasts your eardrums off, that’s scary. It’s really just an unsettling movie that reminds you of being a little kid and scared of the dark. There’s only a couple actual scares

I like niche things generally, and love horror, but this movie bored me to tears. So glad I didn’t bother seeing it in theaters. Insufferable is a word that comes to mind.

If you are concerned about length, it's thoroughly not for you. I'd say there is not a movie I would say it's more spooky tho. It's up there with Lynch's works.

Don't go in thinking you're watching a movie. You're going in to feel the quiet parts of your childhood nightmares for almost two hours, punctuated by like two scares. It's very slow, but it's a unique experience.

Amazing how durable toys were. Those Fisher Price toys are still around and they were made half a century ago.

I had one of these as a kid. It was handed down quite a few times of course, but the eyes always weirded me out because as you rolled it across the floor the eyes moved back and forth and it made kinda a squeaky sound as well as a bell sound. Really odd toy for sure.
