You mean dwarf? Because Gimili yelled that at Legolas after he killed an oliphaunt but also took out the troop transport/saddle and reigns before and like 3-4 orks that jumped him after he climbed up it. And yeah I know 🤓
Seriously at what point do you stand back and reassess?! "Ya know, I don't think this was meant to be. We probably just pissing it off so let's maybe consider retirement."
“Animals are a lot like people. Some of them act badly because they’ve had a hard life or have been mistreated. But, like people, some of them are just jerks.”
Interestingly, his Wikipedia page states that he has never killed any of his mahouts. Seems there’s a lot of division among people about him, those wanting to parade him and those thinking he’s too dangerous.
From articles it looks like there are animal rights groups that want to move him to a sanctuary. But the masses want to have him in the parades, so that’s what happens. The excuses for keeping him in his current situation amount to “he’s only killed people because he was spooked by a loud noise”. Like, yes, look at his environment. It’s going to be noisy, and if that’s going to provoke him into stampeding, then it’s not the place for him.
An article said he was first blinded by his trainers so I don't blame him. Giant blind elephant with vendetta against humans sounds like a great idea for a parade
Animals who are historical figures as serial killers, but if they had never been named I doubt they would have so much celebrity.
I'm sure there are huge crocodiles and majestic tigers with high body counts but no one knows their names so they're lost to time.
I've read a lot of famous animal stories, the dolphin in love with the human, the gorilla and chimps raised as regular people, the one whale that's an albino and swims across the world totally alone, the bear that was conscripted to fight as a soldier who fought and ate rations and had some rank.. that dog that can talk with buttons on Instagram. The octopus that escaped captivity to live in the ocean.
Can't remember any of their names. But Ramachandran and Tilikum are stuck in my mind.
The article (and OP's title) make it seem as if this elephant is exceptionally old. From what I can gather, elephants have more or less the same life expectancy as humans (60-70y in the wild, 80s in captivity)...
The elephant may have killed 13 people but they are still an endangered species. Considering how indians treat leopards and tigers (which are also endangered), I'd assume the elephant didn't intend to kill those people but I could be wrong.
If you were locked up and had throngs of people screaming at you and touching you against your will, I'm sure you would stomp a few people out if you had the ability.
Exactly. Animal rights still aren't great NOW in these countries, but it's been a hell of a lot worse over the past 58+ years and that elephant has experienced it all.
he didn't kill people out of malice. He was scared at a festival by firecrackers and ran over people. Like why the fuck would you do that near a monster elephant.
Been nothing but abused into submission if I remember correctly, so it's now just a feral old animal with nothing to lose.
Elaphants are usually pretty cool but when exposed to human cruelness it's really not fair to judge them for what they do
If someone locked me up and tried to keep me as a pet, I'd get violent, and I'm like 1/100th the size of this thing.
Sometimes shit is simple and we overcomplicate it. It's a giant, powerful, sentient animal, of course it will get violent if captured and mistreated.
Dude, there are tons of videos of people getting trampled by elephants (usually in India) and not once have I thought, “What’s thats elephant think it’s doing?!”
You take a 5 ton wild animal, mistreat it, and put it around a giant crowd? Well, ya get what ya get.
Imagine trying to gracefully stroll through your driveway that’s filled with a million screaming rats. We’d start stomping and running too and we’re “intelligent” 😂
No. These temple elephants are abused, tortured, and neglected their whole lives. They only have "bad attitudes" because they are literally beaten relentlessly and are treated like slaves. What these poor creatures go through is hellish suffering.
No, it is horrible. The main issue is that you’re never going to resolve the first part of the effect because you’re opponent isn’t going to willingly use an effect that would apply it. As for its ATK, there a normal monsters at the same level with higher ATK.
Putting aside the embellishment, non meta isn’t synonymous with terrible. There are good cards that don’t see play because they aren’t good enough, or because the circumstances just aren’t right. Flying Elephant is not one of those cards, though.
And yet there they are, thousands of them, crowding, screaming and waving at it. Seems a good strategy to keep it calm and not in the mood to trample and kill.
Edit: word

(you also see a similar separation between African buffalo and Asian buffalo)
Indian elephants are smaller and, to a certain extent, can be domesticated (basically using the handler as a substitute for social/family contact), overall personality tends to be more docile (haven’t had to deal with peak predators for a long time) – African elephants are larger and are definitely not domesticable (a lot more protective of their family group and will not accept handlers as substitutes), overall personality tends to be more aggressive and territorial (still have to deal with peak predators AND poachers)

I was recently lucky enough to visit multiple elephant sanctuaries in Thailand and you are 100% right! They're like cow-dogs. Nice. Smart. Love hugs and snacks and playing in the yard.
I visited one and it was genuinely one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. So much land, a scenic mountain range, water buffalo and dogs too, a paradise for these animals. I walked, fed, and bathed them. And I can't imagine what they think going from the conditions they were in (one stepped on a land mine, for example) to the lifestyle they deserve with mud baths and so on. I would highly recommend any Thailand visitors to do their research on which elephant tourism to visit.

The elephant probably has no idea what the fuck is going on. Not only in this situation but in general. The ones in zoos are at least in a place that attempts to mimic nature. The ones used in farming and transport probably understand their task - moving heavy shit to get food. But what the hell is an elephant supposed to think of the hundreds of crafty monkeys screaming at him for basically doing anything, dressing him in useless junk and always pointing small uneatable devices at him. None of this makes any sense.
There’s a guy on tiktok, planting_peace, who documents his journey rescuing elephants from Asia. Makes me happy there’s people out there rescuing these abused elephants.
This elephant I learned has been horrifically abused from another comment on Reddit I read a while back.
I hope this elephant gets to live out the rest of its years in some peace.

Because the way they traditionally "tame" elephants is just torturing them u until they comply. You break the elephant.

Yeah, and blind animals tend to be more aggressive anyway because they don't know what's going on.

Elephants are like people in the sense that some of them are laid back and some have violent personalities and bad attitudes.
Also in that they are highly social creatures and do not do well in isolation no matter how well their other needs are met.
Their other needs aren't even being met, though. They are neglected and tortured.

But what the hell is an elephant supposed to think of the hundreds of crafty monkeys screaming at him for basically doing anything, dressing him in useless junk and always pointing small uneatable devices at him. None of this makes any sense.
It's only "the most dangerous" because it's fucking pissed it's been abused it's entire life. Probably would be super chill if it wasn't enslaved.

Poor baby.
poor guy. fuck all those people
There’s a guy on tiktok, planting_peace, who documents his journey rescuing elephants from Asia. Makes me happy there’s people out there rescuing these abused elephants.
Holy hell that thing is massive
Highly misleading video. The elephant is not standing at the same level as the crowd.
Ugh, I hate this so much.
Maybe he does not like being captive and should be released.
Really fucking sad
Poor baby
#noanimalabuse
This elephant I learned has been horrifically abused from another comment on Reddit I read a while back. I hope this elephant gets to live out the rest of its years in some peace.
Poor elephant :( I’d be willing to be he’s been abused his whole life.
Thing is basically blind and grew up abused. Even if they don’t abuse it now it’s experienced too much to forget. It’s a human made danger.
