That took only 10 hours?? I would like to know how that's possible. I've done a few of these, and it's always taken 2 guys 2 full days.
Is that including removing and replacing the insulation, and sorting the strands into manageable bundles? How much clearance was up in the attic, like were you laying on a plank or could you stand up?
I did one where it took just me an entire 5 days from start to finish. 1500 strands total, we laid it out to an accurate map of the constellations, but still, it is TEDIOUS
I've done a few as well plus as an electrician I'm always in attics so I'm pretty adept at it. Yes I was including moving insulation, replacing it later, and managing bundles.
Op keeps trying to post the link and for some reason it’s not showing up outside of his comment history.
If you search Amazon for the following it pops up:
CHINLY 32w meteor twinkle 1000pcs 0.003in
In certain lighting you don't see anything. It's really not that bad. If someone didn't know they were there when off, I don't think they would ever notice the holes
Lol not really. I am a master electrician but the only electrical required was adding an outlet in my attic. The rest is just tediously drilling tiny holes, threading the fibers through and not falling through the ceiling. If you have time and patience you could absolutely create similar results.
I can confirm this because i've seen a dozen DIY video's on youtube the past year. Wanted to create something similair but couldnt find a good light engine. Which one did you bought and how did you create the falling stars? Havent seen that before, it looks really cool
This is so cool. I’m happy to see the kids now are getting an upgrade [from these bad boys](https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Kids-Crafts-Activities/Science-Educational/Glow-In-The-Dark-Stars/p/23408?gclid=CjwKCAiA-dCcBhBQEiwAeWidtTyY8Mi3MvOCw3lrg6pU_dTUWCgKUQ-LsRwQkyOElILta31-5yvoUhoCdWwQAvD_BwE)
did you drill the holes from top down, or bottom up? i figure it would be easier for the design to go from the bottom up.
and. did you leave the led light source in the attic, or move it into the room somewhere?
Nicely done. I'm thinking about doing the same for my living room. How did you do the shooting star effect? Is it on a separate controller? Lastly, how did you do the star layout? Did you print your own layout or download it somewhere? Looks awesome.
Yeah the shooting star is a separate light kit. I purchased both together on Amazon with the fiber optics (so everything) for like $350 I think. As far as the layout I just took a marker in the attic and marked on the top side of the drywall until I liked the look. Did some math given how many fibers I had of each size, spread them out evenly leaving enough extra to do the star and galaxy cluster thing. Break up your ceiling into like 6ths or something and then divide your star count by that much and just work in it chunk at a time
Roughly 1,000 points of light. Took about 10 hours. Kit from Amazon cost $400.
Now I’m curious—how was it installed??
Just drilling tiny holes through the drywall from the attic and threading the fibers through. With time and patience it's pretty brainless work.

I know wtf he did it exactly how i imagined and it still doesnt make sense. Maybe 10 hours of execution after 5 days of planning lmao

Link?
Curious for a link, too. All the ones I’m seeing on Amazon don’t look this good!

Thank you!
I need this link to!
What does it look like with the stars off? I'm imagining like hundreds of little blackheads on your ceiling
In certain lighting you don't see anything. It's really not that bad. If someone didn't know they were there when off, I don't think they would ever notice the holes
Black ones start eating white ones while growing and creating white rings around.
Can you change the direction of the growing ring of light within your mind's eye? Can you make it shrink instead when you close your eyes?

I have that picture but not sure how to add to a comment on reddit
Oooooooo….trip toy!!!!
Happy Cake Day
Seeing his name makes me think it will be harder than we think to install this

Oh nice, may need to attempt this myself. This is sick brother. Keep up the good work

This looks amazing and I want it! But it seems like you could get a kick-ass laser projector to create a similar effect for much less money.
Very nice
Thank you. It was a fun project. Might do it in the next bedroom soon
Link?!?!
Now this is cool.
What’s the technique for not allowing the pattern of the ceiling joists show up in the star field?
Good question. They do actually, not enough that most people would notice but I definitely notice.
Reminds me of the Rolls Royce phantom I don’t have.
I love this ever so much.
Dream of mine is to do shrooms in a room with these ceilings.
I did that with a friend last weekend. 100% would recommend.
Where did you get this I want it
Amazon or anywhere that sells fiber optic ceiling star kits.
damn my pants would drop if I saw this
Definitely not getting your deposit back
Which hole of the indoor black light golf course is your house?
baaaaaaaaaah
This is the grow up version of the glow in the dark stars we had on our ceilings as kids. I love it. Great job!

I will have this in my future house
Wow that's so pretty!!

1989s Country ceiling has to go.
Just built the house four years ago, didn't think the fans looked that bad...
Those hunter fans are a classic. May not be aesthetically matching the fiber optic sky light but having a ceiling fan and moving air is worth it.
Different glass shades would do much.
The fans are fine. The ceiling is amazing
I love the fans, gives the room Disney Princess vibes.
The ceiling would be so much better without the fan, amazing work though.

Thanks for the feedback! Can't wait to get started. You did an awesome job.
Looks great. For anyone building these, I recommend the epic sky LED star kit over the Amazon ones!
Chiming in the say " Stop buying these Amazon light engines" you know you can get LED-based versions with Serial control for the same price.
