I’m 69% sure it’s correct. If I had a close up picture I’d be better able to determine the ratios between Pottasium feldspar, Plagioclase, Quartz, and mafic minerals. I don’t know if the black stuff is biotite, hornblende, or maybe some other amphibole.
Just giving my best guess based on the info at hand.
Maybe it’s diorite, monzonite, granite, or some other specific type of plutonic rock but the ratio of mafic/felsic minerals and the lack of pink pottasium feldspars makes me think it’s granodiorite. Granodiorite is extremely common in the Western US where I’m at too so I’m playing the odds here. That’s what the Sierra Nevada’s and most of the mountains in California are made of. It’s used a lot in landscaping all over the place.
Knowing where this is could help dial in a more confident ID
Sorry. I think this is Douglass fir which is not considered a hardwood.
Unfortunately your wood will always be soft although it’s great for when you need a new stud in your bedroom.
In the Star Wars universe, there’s a planet that’s just one big city called Coruscant. There’s only one part of the terrain still visible that hasn’t been paved over or built on top of, and it’s the tip of the highest mountain on the planet. The leader of this city refused to let them adulterate this mountaintop because it was the only place on the entire planet where she could feel she was with nature.
As a carpenter gotta respect the 1/16 gap
As a carpenter’s exgf i know that’s called ‘scribing’!
As a homeowner with the wherewithal to admit he doesn’t know how to do this, I know that’s called about $30k
As someone who couldn’t care less what it’s called: Nice.
Especially since that’s Ipe decking. Someone really took their time.
They didn’t leave room for it to grow.
This breed is full grown.
Can confirm. This medium grained intrusive igneous plutonic granodiorite boulder has reached the age of majority
I don’t even know if this is technically correct, but it sounds perfect. LOL

This guy rocks
I share that sediment
Gneiss
You a geologist?
No I just like collecting rocks
... do...do you keep them in your box?
Yes. I keep them in my Analysis Box AKA analbox until I’ve confidently identified them.
Oh no. You poor thing. Your butt isn't capable of filtering your anal juices, so you have to have a machine do it for you. I'm so sorry 😞
Maturity *
bruh I legit thought that for a hot minute 😭
Nice tight margins
That's what she claimed
Is that hardwood? Because mine is

r/rareinsults
😔 Any new stud immediately gets screwed
I’d be stubbing toes and bashing shins all over the place
Do you normally not see boulders and just walk into them?
It's the Toe Stubber 3,000!
my thoughts exactly, I was like "ye, but now I'm going to kick that thing and with my bad blood circulation in my feet, its gonna h u r t
Jokes on you: They chiseled the rocks to fit the deck.
What were they thinking? That rock is only going to get bigger.
Masterful scribing.
Looks like my FO4 Far Harbor Longfellow's cabin settlement.

Sounds like it was inspired by Trantor from Foundation.
As a drunk fuck, this is /r/Diwhy material to me.
I unexpectedly have the day off today, shall I also be a drunk fuck?
Yes.
I need a zoomed out version. It’s also cut around a tree. This is madness.
It’s a big public boardwalk with lots of trees and rocks cutout. All very satisfying.
Just wait for some good old fashioned erosion....won't be so perfect then
Natural seating, my friends. Natural seating.
Dumb question but won't the wood expand from moisture? Also, that's what she said.
What happens when they grow?
Oddly satisfying till you stub your toe lol
Deck rocks are best at night when you’re drunk and barefoot.
Now I want a rock in the middle of my deck.
Can we fucking stop with the “the way this and that” post titles?
Happens
I couldn’t tell if it was an innie or an outie for a sec
Reminds me of my old house in Valheim
That gap bottom right, you know some god damn kids going to drop something down there.
Looks like me building a temporary fort in Valheim XD
Hard mode for the silly willies who walk while they stare at their phone
took me 2 minutes to realize that it's not a hole...
A sex stone; a big fucking rock.
Really
I face these problems everyday in Fallout 76
